When we arrived there were two cups and 2 k-cups for us to have coffee in the morning and all the normal things like towels and soap in the bathroom. After the first night we just normally expected trash would be taken out, new coffee, maybe new coffee cups. Standard quick tidy up. It didn't happen. So the second night we put the hanger on the door asking for service. It didn't happen either. Office was only open 8-noon. We left before 8 each morning. The notice on the door in our room said cleaning was 9-1 each day. Clearly the owners are not focused on this property or the guests. We heard they owned another property and might be there if we needed something. Shockingly, following up on whether or not we got clean dry towels was not our priority either during our stay. I would probably try another spot next time.

We spent a week in Bar Harbor before coming up, and after the crowds and chaos there, this quiet inn was a PERFECT place to decompress and relax. The room is really spacious-- a king-sized bed, table and chairs, and plenty of floor space. Jacuzzi tub and a large bathroom. It looks right out over the river, so you can watch the tide go in and out; we even saw a pair of bald eagles. You can walk down to the river and to the Downeast Sunrise trail, which we biked on. It's extremely quiet, aside from road noise. The hosts are very responsive and were flexible with my schedule. If I am ever back in Machias I will definitely stay here again. Be forewarned that if you want breakfast, your choices are Dunkin Donuts or drive a long way to a different town. Everything in Machias opens at 11:00.

Easy check in. Here for 3 days to tour up n down the coast. All good. Update: We checked out and decided to return for an extra day in this part of Maine. Now our room is larger, king bed, in the new annex. Farther from the road and more quiet. Shower is better. Coffee maker is Kurig. Even better reasons to stay here again next time. I recommend.

The owners are so nice and accommodating. I felt like extended family, and I mean that in the best way possible. They have a super cute little dog and two nice cats. Of which never bothered us, in fact I think I bothered them by trying to pet them :) They included breakfast which was AMAZING. The chef is also the owner and he is so nice, each morning they chatted with us bout the local area and in general were just very nice. I couldn't ask for a better way to start my day. My only real complaint was that my bed was small, but that is due to having shared a room with a co-worker, we had the two bedroom. I am sure the one bedrooms have bigger beds. Overall I would say this is a place you should stay if you are in the area. Go, relax, have some wine and chat. Most of all, forget your problems and worries, even for just a moment while enjoying coffee and looking out onto the river.

Across the road is a river basin with a family of bald eagles nesting in the trees clearly visible from the house. At night you could hear the baby eagles chittering back and forth with the parents. Opening the windows in the master bedroom gave you the soothing sounds of the tidal river as it flowed past the house. Paul has a friend who is a lobsterman, and he obtained and steamed for us three monstrous lobsters. So good! Very conveniently located on the main road, 5 minutes drive to Machias and 25 minutes to Lubec and the Canadian border. We will absolutely stay here again!

Dorothy rose was wonderful from the first phone call that I made to her. She was very accommodating of the children, and offered that they sleep on the two love seats, which made a perfect "nest" for them. The studio is in a converted barn and it is extremely comfortable. Great views, and the most well appointed kitchenette that I've ever seen! The chairs next to the water offer a soothing place to relax. The walking trails are great, with signs throughout - a "secret cabin" that the boys loved, and a beaver dam. There are kayaks that my daughter and her family enjoyed. Dorothy Rose even put out hula hoops and other toys for the boys. She has toy bins and a great collection of books and games. I can't say enough good things about Dorothy Rose and Cranberry Cove. There is a well equipped kitchenette with stove, refrigerator and microwave if you want to cook. The sitting area with two love seats is a nice place to watch tv or just take in the view of the ocean! There is another room downstairs for kids or extra guests. There are chairs across the street for ocean viewing and in the back of the property there is a short hiking trail that leads to a pond in the back. Dorothy Rose has kayaks there for guests to use. There are ducks, geese, beavers, and other wildlife to see. This area is so relaxing you will not want to leave!

Our party of four enjoyed prefixed meals that were so delicious. Dinner began with a wonderful pumpkin soup- creamy and so flavorful. The pear salad was fresh, and our entree choices were hard to decide upon! The Lazy Mans Surf and Turf - filet minion bites with shrimp served atop a potato mash with a fine onion and mushroom sauce. The scallops and orzo was so tasty. Dessert was a fine banana foster parfait topped with clouds of whipping cream. The wine list is large enough. We had a great cab with our meal--two bottles to be exact. The wait staff was very professional and friendly. The restaurant will be closing for winter break. If you are in the Bold Coast area of Maine we highly recommend eating here. We will be back in the area next summer and plan on enjoying a meal there again!
