    OC restaurant week appetizer set

Nice sushi spot in Newport Coast. They have a delicious set menu for OC restaurant week. Lots of food and great flavors. Would be a good spot to return when in the area.

Lots of parking! The sake selection was great also. Service was friendly. The Nigiri at the chefs counter was some of the best I've had. We sat at the sushi counter which is what I like and got to watch the care and attention the chefs put into what they do!

Have not been to Bluefin for a while but a girlfriend chose this for a lunch date due to its location in Crystal Cove. I was pleasantly impressed by the lunch omakase. Nice appetizer plate with 4 items, soup, sushi platter, and a dessert platter. The restaurant was cozy and intimate, located inside the Crystal Cove Shopping plaza.

Tried this sushi spot in Newport Beach while shopping. We tried the albacore, salmon and tuna and all were very fresh. The service was great. We loved the wine pairing. Casual ambience. Suitable for lunch or a date night.

Had a relaxed lunch at this great location with great food! Sushi and Sashimi were both very fresh and tasty. The desert was a true surprise! We will come back!

Hadn't been here for awhile but recently came for dinner and it pleasantly surprised me. Got a sushi special/ omakase and it was delicious. Everything was very fresh! Pacing was good, not rushed but not long waits between bites. Service was great but we were also the only ones in the restaurant (came around 8/830 on a weekday),

Lovely sushi restaurant located in the Newport Coast shopping center. Lovely setting very accommodating staff, great service delicious high-quality sushi. The lychee martini was especially delicious.. full bar. Delightful, it gets crowded so come early !

Small but well decor joint. Service is great & attentive. We sat outside instead of inside since it was a nice sunny evening. The foods are good, fresh and tasty. Prices can be on the low high end...especially due to location. It's also very close to the ocean and in a shopping center so plenty of parking.

    I love it

The sunset view from this restaurant is beautiful, and enjoying sushi while looking at such a scenery is absolutely wonderful. The omakase course is highly recommended. You will surely be impressed not only by the taste but also by the beautiful presentation.

While browsing through OC week, I stumbled upon this gem in Newport Beach called Bluefin. We were hoping to get the OC week menu, but it was only available for dinner. However, I spotted a lunch omakase for $60 each, plus tax and tip. It looked pretty similar to the OC week menu, but with a slight price bump which was still worth it. We started with an appetizer platter (had shrimp, tofu, crab tempura) then moved on to crudo, nigiri platter (with uni and toro), clam miso soup, Chilean sea bass, and concluded with an apple with ice cream dessert. Overall, the food was delicious, and the fish was fresh. We were pretty full after all that. The chef was friendly, but service could be better. Overall will definitely recommend trying and will be back!

Best sushi restaurant in Newport Beach period. We came here for OC Restaurant week and it was amazing! All the dishes were fresh and the perfect temperature and delicious. If you are ever in Newport Coast and craving sushi then this is the place. Happy Yelping!

Bluefin was so good. I've been wanting to check it out and it was worth going. My friend and I both got the omakase and I got the lychee margarita. The drink was delicious and my friend also enjoyed her drink. The omakase was so good. There was so much thought and preparation into each dish. Every dish that was presented was fantastic and need I say more about the taste. The flavors of all the dishes were AMAZING. The restaurant isn't too big so I would recommend making reservations. This plaza can get very packed because it's very close to Newport. This restaurant is worth checking out!!

LUNCH CHIRASHI for oc restaurant week
    Natalie Y.

Came to bluefin for oc restaurant week because they had a special $25 lunch! i got the chirashi which comes with miso soup, salad, and sashimi + seasoned rice. the fish were all excellent quality and very delicious! the seasoned rice was beautiful, colorful, and wonderfully flavored!! it had some sweet unagi sauce mixed in as well as some pickled ginger, if those flavors entice you! i thought it was just a little too sweet personally. But this lunch was a very good deal imo so I enjoyed my visit here!

I've been coming here with my family for years, celebrating countless birthdays and special occasions, so I figured it was time to update my review. One of the biggest improvements is the remodel they completed a few years ago. The restaurant feels much larger, more open, and more modern. The atmosphere has always been a huge part of Javier's appeal. The food has consistently been good, but the prices have climbed higher and higher over the years. At times, they feel close to being a "ripoff", but the ambiance, ocean adjacent location, and overall experience help justify it. That said, the "scene" isn't quite what it used to be. Javier's has long been a staple of Newport Beach culture and will probably remain that way forever. Years ago, it felt like the place to see and be seen. Today, it feels more like a local institution than a hotspot, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. As a family with several vegetarians, one thing that has always bothered us is the pricing. Charging extra for beans and rice often makes certain vegetarian dishes more expensive than entrées that include meat, which feels hard to justify. My family's favorite vegetarian option is the spinach enchiladas, while my go to order is the three item combination plate with a chicken enchilada, taco, and chile relleno. While many people argue that South of Nick's serves better Mexican food, I respectfully disagree. South of Nick's may be more affordable, but I still think Javier's serves the best Mexican food in town. It's a great choice for date nights, family dinners, celebrations, or anyone looking for a classic Newport Beach experience. The service and overall food quality may have slipped slightly over the years, but Javier's remains my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Yes, the prices are outrageous, but the food, atmosphere, and tradition keep us coming back. Cool Fact: Kobe Bryant used to regularly come to Javier's and they had a drink called "the black mamba" named after him on the menu!

The food consistently tastes fresh, and the quality keeps me coming back. The only downside is the parking situation, it's almost always a challenge, especially during busy hours. My favorite order is the Bear Flag Burrito. The fish is always fresh and gets a nice sear, which adds great flavor and texture. I do wish they were a little more generous with the Cajun seasoning, though, as the fish could use a bit more spice and depth. The half-pound tuna poke is another staple for me. The tuna is consistently fresh and marinated with shoyu sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and scallions, creating a simple but delicious flavor that lets the quality of the fish shine. I always pair it with their chips, which are incredibly crunchy. That said, I feel like the chips changed about a year or two ago. They used to be thicker and sturdier, which made them perfect for scooping up poke. The current version still tastes good, but they seem to break more easily, and I definitely prefer the original chips. Overall, Bear Flag continues to deliver fresh seafood and satisfying meals. Despite the parking headaches and a few minor tweaks I'd love to see, it's still the best spot for poke and fish burritos/tacos in OC.

My friends ordered clam chowder bowls, which were served right away, and they were done eating before I even received my burrito. I also noticed a dog on one of the outdoor dining tables directly outside the restaurant, which raised sanitation concerns. Bear Flag later explained that those tables are public seating and not owned or controlled by them, those were their customers and it still impacts the overall guest experience since the area is right by the restaurant entrance. I wonder if the health department would be ok with them ignoring their customers creating a health code violation. When I reached out, the response felt dismissive rather than helpful. They said 25 minutes is fairly standard because they're one of the busiest restaurants in Orange County. I would have appreciated more accountability and a more customer-focused response. The experience left a bad impression.

The first table we were seated at was in the back near stored booster seats and had a strong odor resembling urine, which immediately put a bad taste in our mouths and required us to move. It was an unacceptable start and set the tone for the entire visit. Once we moved, the food did not improve the experience. Dishes were expensive yet severely under-portioned. Rolls were heavy on rice and sauce, and the fish was barely noticeable. The bluefin tuna with truffle oil was drowned in oil and lacking flavor. The spicy tuna rice cake was served cold, extremely small, flavorless, and hard. The Yellow Submarine roll was overly sauced and unbalanced. For nearly $200 at a restaurant that presents itself as high-end, the meal fell far below expectations. We left early, still hungry, and deeply disappointed. I truly wish someone had warned us.
