Hamachi Serrano

2 years later and Sushi Roku is still a favorite for my kids. The service is always 5 stars, the food is consistent, and it's never overly crowded. A few of our favorites are the yellowtail serrano(no Serrano for the kids), a custom roll for the kiddos: yellowtail, cucumber, avocado, topped with yellowtail. Brussel sprout chips, shishito peppers, and cauliflower. Highly recommend!

Hitting up some nice sushi place called Sushi Roku in Newport Beach (Orange County). It's a one of the nicer place for some delicious sushi. For food, I've got the following... Sushi (2pcs): Tuna Bluefin Salmon Yellowtail Cut rolls: Katana California Lets start with the sushi... Not too bad. I really liked it. Sooo good. I think Tuna Bluefin is the winner. That was delicious. For the rolls..... Katana rolls were sooo good. Very nice presentation... right on point. Very tasty. The best rolls at this restaurant. As for The California rolls.... not so much... I had better than that, but it was a nice try. Service was great.... no complaints so far. Overall... 4 stars for now.

If you've been following my Yelp escapades, you already know I treat restaurant scouting like Olympic training for your dating life. I test the vibes, the lighting, the food, the flirt‑potential, all so you don't accidentally take a promising match to a place that screams "situationship energy." So buckle up, buttercup, because here comes another one. Sushi Roku is a great spot for a date you've known for a while, not quite "meet the parents," but definitely past the "I don't know your last name yet" stage. The ambiance shifts like a good relationship: warm and romantic after dark, bright and lively during the day. It exudes the "we're comfortable, but still trying" vibe. The salmon belly and sushi rolls? Fresh, delicious, and absolutely must‑order territory. Think of them as the reliable green flags of the menu. Prices are standard OC, not cheap, but not the kind of bill that makes you reconsider your life choices. Our server was sweet, attentive, and totally earned the 25% tip we left her. We skipped the wine, but apparently Coke Zero is the unofficial drink of Newport Beach, so I fit right in. Too bad they don't serve it. I wish they did. Parking is a breeze with a free public lot right out front, and there are plenty of places to stroll afterward if you need to walk off the sushi... or extend the date because it's going well. Been there, done that! Date‑worthy? Absolutely. Thumbs up from me, and I'll be back.

Just grab some lunch at Sushi Roku with a friend. This place never lets me down. The atmosphere was stylish and clearly well loved by the crowd. Service was solid as usual. Robert was great as a manager checking in on us. Of course will be back Sushi Roku has all the elements together in one location from the delicious fish to the great music and atmosphere to well trained servers providing a high-end experience at a high-end location. Although we got much more food, you could see in my other pictures, some of the things I've gotten in the past are still good! This time I just shared two of my favorites. Give them a try and let me know what you think!

My bestie and I came here to celebrate her birthday and it was a nice time! The restaurant is beautiful, clean, and spacious - perfect vibe for a special occasion. The wait staff is really nice and attentive, checking on us often and making sure we had everything we needed. I made the reservation with the note that we were celebrating a birthday, and we got a cute little printed card which was a thoughtful touch. The ambiance and service are really great but I felt like the food could have been better. We shared the seared albacore, spicy tuna hanabi, and the senshi roll. The seared albacore had a yummy & tangy garlic ponzu which I enjoyed, but the spicy tuna hanabi was a little blander than I would have liked and the senshi roll was not very flavorful either. The meal was okay but not worth the prices, in my opinion. Though the meal was so-so, it was really nice to be given a birthday dessert on the house. We got some mochi ice cream and berries, and it came out to the table with a sparkler! So fun. Overall - nice atmosphere, friendly service, okay food. This isn't my first time here so I was a little disappointed, but it was an enjoyable dinner nonetheless. (Probably a 3.5/5, tbh.)

Fantastic flavor, great quality of fish, friendly service and uber chill vibes. Did I just find my favorite non-Omakase sushi restaurant? I think so. Don't miss the yuzu salmon nigiri, Tokubetsu roll, or the toro nigiri (excellent). The calamari is subtle and perfectly prepared. Cocktails were inspired and a consistent theming around apricots was appreciated. Definitely will be back to try more!

We are sitting outside on this beautiful Wednesday, 4/8/26 enjoying the cool breeze. I love their Brussels sprouts and they are gluten free! Our waitress is not exactly personable but the food is good! We got a new waiter with the shift change luckily!

What was ordered: Brussel Sprout Chips Hakata Ramen Salmon Nigiri Bluefin Tuna Nigiri *my favorite; super yummy* White Lotus Roll Toro Jalapeño Roll Our waiter was excellent. He was very friendly, helpful and attentive. Ambiance is really nice. I was most excited about the toro jalapeño roll, but that was actually the least appetizing for me. I would not order again. White lotus, salmon nigiri, and the Brussel sprout chips were all ok. The bluefin tuna and ramen were definitely my favorites. The ramen was so flavorful and the right amount of spicy without being too spicy - it was well balanced and so scrumptious! I also really enjoyed the bluefin tuna.

5 star ambiance and service. Great place for a date night with cool vibes and upbeat music. Our server was super friendly and sweet. Food is more of a 4. It was nicely presented and tasted decent, but not amazing. We liked the taste of the Brussel sprout chips but felt the quantity was really tiny because they were literally breaded and fried individual Brussel sprouts leaves. The White Lotus roll and soft shell crab cut roll were just ok. The Spicy Tuna crispy rice was very good with the mix of temperatures and textures We celebrated a birthday and they totally set us up with the most amazing cotton candy, ice cream, cheesecake dessert with a sparkler. Definitely a 5 star dessert!

I am in complete shock that I have not left a review here before. I have been going here often for so so many years! It's a beautiful place to splurge every now and then. Great location in Fashion Island. My boyfriend and I had the 5-course Roku Izakaya Feast. For $78/person WOW was it worth it!!! Came with 2 starters, 2 carpaccios, 6 pieces of sushi, 2 rolls, and a dessert. Seriously still in awe. The sushi did not come with any salmon (my favorite) so I ordered some additionally- but last minute they switched one of the sushi's out with salmon (now having double). I was very appreciative of my server comp'ing the accidental additional salmon without asking!! Everything is delicious, but usually my favorite item is a spicy tuna crispy rice but the spicy tuna at Sushi Roku does not hit for me unfortunately, and I am not sure why. Hugh quality DJ, service, ambience, food, and prices. Overall it was a beautiful date night out!

Sushi texture was on point, melted in your mouth. Baked cod was came steaming hot and also melted in your mouth. My husband thought the baked cod was most memorable. I highly enjoyed sushi experience and price is worth the experience!

Was seriously craving high-quality sushi, and Sushi Roku absolutely delivered. We came in on a Sunday for lunch and were seated immediately. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with both indoor and outdoor seating, we opted to sit outside to enjoy the great weather, which was the perfect choice. The cocktail menu was too tempting to pass up, and I'm so glad we ordered one. Our server recommended the Electric Koi, and it lived up to the hype - delicious and stunning. Food-wise, we started with edamame and the Serrano Hamachi appetizer, which was phenomenal. I honestly could've eaten three orders. For our main, we split the Deluxe Sushi Plate. The fish was incredibly fresh and the rice perfectly seasoned, absolute perfection. Between the great ambiance, fantastic service, and food that left me wanting more, this was an easy five-star experience. Already looking forward to my next visit and trying more from the menu!

There is a $79 Izakaya tasting option. Is it really for the entire menu including nigiri/sashimi or is it just for appetizers?

The restaurant is on the a main street with street parking and I believe a small lot behind. We ordered the Konpa, Maki, and Life changing pickles. Konpa- freshest, plumper cuts of tuna. The sauces were so tasty and quinoa made the meal so healthy. The star of this dish is the chili crunch! It added such a nice kick of texture and flavor to the milder fish/veggies taste. Maki- salmon pieces were thick and fatty. Everything in the bowl felt healthy like the Konpa. Saucing could be a bit heavier as a yuzu was a bit light. Pickles- personally, not lifechanging. But nevertheless, extremely addicting cucumber and white radish combo. The pickled ginger in the bowl was sweet and very mild in sharpness. It really complimented the other salty pickled items. I would definitely reorder this. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.

The first table we were seated at was in the back near stored booster seats and had a strong odor resembling urine, which immediately put a bad taste in our mouths and required us to move. It was an unacceptable start and set the tone for the entire visit. Once we moved, the food did not improve the experience. Dishes were expensive yet severely under-portioned. Rolls were heavy on rice and sauce, and the fish was barely noticeable. The bluefin tuna with truffle oil was drowned in oil and lacking flavor. The spicy tuna rice cake was served cold, extremely small, flavorless, and hard. The Yellow Submarine roll was overly sauced and unbalanced. For nearly $200 at a restaurant that presents itself as high-end, the meal fell far below expectations. We left early, still hungry, and deeply disappointed. I truly wish someone had warned us.

Even though if you are seated at the bar, you won't interact with the chefs as they only process the order through the servers. I did not realize the server accidentally overcharged the dinner bill until I went home and took a look of the receipt. I did call the following day to inform them, and the manager, Daniel, was happy to adjust the bill to the correct amount, and in addition, gave me a $20 gift card for the inconvenience.
