Sake menu. Hand picked by chef. Top to bottom (dry to sweet)

When you first walk in Chef Glen greets you and ask you if you have reservations. Call a week in advance to make the reservation over the phone. There's only 8 seat at the bar. It's omakase or you can tell chef what you want. There is no food menu here. Chef Glen took over his Father's restaurant, it's very cozy here. It's quiet, and visited by many Japanese locals. I would come back here again.

Went here recently for Omakase with the family. We had 5 people and sat at the sushi bar - it was fun watching Chef Glen make the sushi. It was amazing how fast he was as he was the only chef. There were 3 other people at the sushi bar and 3 seated at the tables and it was at capacity. You definitely need a reservation. A total of 11 people in the room so it was very private. The uni was the best I have ever had... literally melted in my mouth. The raw scallops were very fresh.

I have been coming here for years and realized that Chef Glen is super talented, he has been doing this for many years, he grew up seeing and learning from his master sushi chef dad. The love for serving traditional, fresh sushi is inherently his birth right. So if you want traditional and really good sushi O encourage you to come and dine here. It is a really one man show. But a very talented one man show. Support local business!

This place is great for authentic edo-mae sushi !! I loved every single part of it & although the place is small- it is delicious !! I recommend a reservation in advance due to its capacity. The chef is very nice & the omakase was definitely a great experience. Our omakase included uni, ikura & toro !! I came recommended by our friends, and they have been going here for years !!

Went back for my fiancés birthday dinner. We had about 16 pieces of omakase and loved every single bite. I made sure to call ahead of time so we could guarantee our seats at the bar. Glen had impeccable timing with serving each piece and made sure we got to eat the fish we wanted. So happy to be able to enjoy this gem.

I stumbled upon this place. Omg it's the best sushi spot I've tried in Orange County. I ordered the chirashi bowl, and there was no fish smell at all--the fish tasted incredibly fresh. The price is reasonable given the quality of the sushi. I highly recommend it!

If you would like high quality sushi this is your go to place. Their menu is very limited so if you are picky with certain fish. This is probably not your place. As they are mainly serving omakase where the chef will select for you. In my opinion, they are quite some selection and are all very fresh. So would recommended. However, on the other hand, the service is horrible. The server is not very patient when we ask questions. There was no customer there on Sunday lunch, so we did not caught them from bad timing. We thought maybe it's the language difference, so we speak Japanese to them. But still very unfriendly. Also, my 90 year old grandma who accidentally use the tray they use to put soy sauce as soy sauce dish. The server had to come by and correct her to take it and as we apologized for the inconvenience , she rolled her eyes and walked away. Would not go there again.

Lunch menu

We went there for lunch but not much choices but only two Chirashi or Sushi plate (11 pieces) both are for $35.50 (way over priced!!!). No customer beside us but we decided not to dine-in as the they were not so friendly and prices were little bit too much to us for what we can get. I wish the price were little bit more reasonable with more selections at least for lunch and they were more friendly. No wonder there were no customers beside us. If I need to pay this much, I will go to Blue Fin or Nana San ($24.5 for Chirashi) both are in NB.

Excellent, Edomae style Omakase with extremely fresh fish. Good prices relatively too - I got 15 pieces in the Omakase plus two large beers, and the bill was around $100. They do Kohada (gizzard shad) well, which takes a lot of experience. Interestingly, did not carry Otoro or Nodoguro explaining that he felt they were overpriced/overhyped. Would recommend this place to the traditional sushi enthusiast

Ask the Community - Sushi Shibucho

Is Shibucho still open for customers?

Yes

How much is their Omakase?

That depends on how much you eat. Omakase here means the chef makes you food until you are full and ask him to stop. Everything costs per item, so it can be as little or as much as you want to eat/spend. Keep in mind this is a very traditional place…

Is sake expensive here?

I don't think very expensive . They have variety of Sake to chose from!!!

And thank god we did because the lines were really forming! I can see why this is a hit. The prices are so affordable, the taste is authentic and fresh, the vibe is cozy and friendly. It's a perfect place for a catch up with your girlfriends or a trendy gate spot without breaking the bank. I ordered a lunch set and I think it was only $15 for the whole spread! We shared a grilled beef/cow tongue and it was perfectly seasoned and topped with finely chopped scallions. Very good! My friends really enjoyed their fresh udon and soba noodles. They kept raving loudly about how good the meal was, I think we are coming back!

We were greeted right away, and someone took our order within a minute of arriving. The food came out relatively quickly, which was a nice surprise. Inside had traditional Japanese decor. I ordered the Sukiyaki Beef Curry Bowl, and it definitely hit the spot. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the slightly sweet sukiyaki paired really well with the rich Japanese curry. Neither flavor overpowered the other, making for a balanced meal. Overall, the service was efficient, the food arrived quickly, and the quality was exactly what I was hoping for. I'd definitely order the Sukiyaki Beef Curry Bowl again.

The coating was tasty, the chicken was juicy, and the sauce with a little bit of lemon was exquisite. For the main dish, I went a little bold and tried their Chicken Katsu with Umeboshi Sauce and Shiso inside the katsu. May sound kind of odd, but the combination of flavors was both fresh and bold. Service at the restaurant was solid and I don't think there was a moment where my water wasn't full. The restaurant itself was quite big and I was surprised by how many tables/people could be seated. 100% would come back to try some of the other katsu options.

I loved the sides and miso soup with the meal. Rice was perfect. Katsu sauce and soy on table. We shared between my husband and 11 yo -an order of the chicken chili cheese katsu set and the pork (no fat) katsu set. I asked for extra salad sauce which was .50. The marinated egg side was delish. Ordered another pork katsu set for my older son to go. He enjoyed it. So so so good! What a gem!!!! Beautiful woodsy ambiance. Staff were Japanese. An authentic experience. Will definitely be back.
