The rice was super delicious and the salmon melts on your tongue. He accompanies your dish with three scrumptious sauces (all of which are a circus for your mouth). The place is spotless and the vibe is perfect for a quick bite. CDM scored with this place. J served us and was very nice and pleasant to talk to. Haven't written a review in awhile but had to review this place. It is SOO good. The food was bright, flavorful, and comforting all at once. Our family shared the Maki (Salmon) bowl, Nikkei (Amberjack) bowl, lomo saltado musubi, and the pickles+mac salad+musubi sampler. Everything was perfectly seasoned and delicious. It's the perfect lunch after a beautiful day at the beach. There's also a parking lot conveniently located behind the restaurant. The restaurant is on the a main street with street parking and I believe a small lot behind. We ordered the Konpa, Maki, and Life changing pickles. Konpa- freshest, plumper cuts of tuna. The sauces were so tasty and quinoa made the meal so healthy. The star of this dish is the chili crunch! It added such a nice kick of texture and flavor to the milder fish/veggies taste. Maki- salmon pieces were thick and fatty. Everything in the bowl felt healthy like the Konpa. Saucing could be a bit heavier as a yuzu was a bit light. Pickles- personally, not lifechanging. But nevertheless, extremely addicting cucumber and white radish combo. The pickled ginger in the bowl was sweet and very mild in sharpness. It really complimented the other salty pickled items. We enjoyed our first visit to Konpa Nikkei. The space is clean and bright, and the chef was friendly and accommodating. My mom got the Nikkei bowl (amberjack) with rice, and I got the Maki bowl (salmon) with quinoa. (Note: "sushi rice" refers to the short grain white rice, and is not prepared with sushi vinegar.) The avocado and cucumbers were fresh and firm. My mom's cherry tomatoes were sweet and delicious. The fish was super fresh, and we were pleasantly surprised to see dried purple shiso (perilla) underneath. The yuzu crema complemented my bowl nicely, and I supplemented it with the Rocoto Shoyu (soy sauce with a hint of pepper). The nicest surprise of all was the adzuki bean mochi we had at the end. They store it in a special refrigerator that keeps the mochi soft, so it tasted like I was just made. I wish we had our food served in the nice bowls pictured in the menu rather than paper takeout containers, and that our water didn't come in single use plastic cups, but other than that our experience was wonderful. On the way out I saw that they had taco rice in addition to SPAM musubi for people who can't eat fish. I'm curious to try the vegetarian cauliflower bowl next time. read more

Avid lover of poke, and I come to say that this place does not disappoint! Their slices of fish are more like sashimi, but the quality outshines the small quantity. For the main entrees, we ended up getting the Konpa that came with tuna and some delicious crunch chili oil and the Maki that came with salmon (plus my favorites: cucumber and avocado). As for the sides, we got the lomo saltado papas crisp musubi, which was just okay to me-- nothing too special. The side that I did love and would recommend though was their mac salad! Service was quick and friendly and the overall ambiance of the restaurant itself felt modern and personal since the seating was up and front with the person taking your order and serving you. Konpa Nikkei is such a cool spot! The vibe is modern but relaxed and the menu is great. I had the Sol wrap and while it was fresh and tasty, I found myself wishing there was a little more fish inside (but that's everyone's dream). The sauces were so good: aji amarillo, rocoto shoyu, and verde crema each added their own flavor and it was fun to try them all. I just wished there was a spicier option to kick it up a notch. Service was awesome. Even though we came about 40 minutes before closing, the staff was kind, welcoming, and did not rush us at all. Overall, Konpa Nikkei is worth checking out if you want something different from the usual sushi spots. My wife and I were looking for something different to eat in Corona Del Mar. A few locals suggested, Konpa Nikkei, a Japanese/Preuvian fusion restaurant. We ordered the Ají Bowl , and it was outstanding -- perfectly seasoned rice, fresh toppings, and elevated by their house chili pepper water that you can add to spice your meal. Real depth and heat that didn't overpower. We also had the life-changing pickled cucumbers -- savory and refreshing with perfect crunch. We drank their chicha morada and the maracuya agua fresca that was bright, tart, and refreshing. Highly recommend trying this popular spot. Then came the life-changing pickles, and they really lived up to their name. Layered with ginger and a sprinkle of ume plum, every bite had depth and balance. For entrées, the coliflor was a standout. A bed of greens topped with Japanese mushrooms, Latin squash, and a medley of vegetables that brought spice, richness, and comfort. It reminded me of a Caesar but healthier, layered, and more flavorful...it's a dish I'd come back for regularly. We also tried the aji poke bowl with kimchi and tuna, and the fish was buttery and clean, lifted beautifully by the spice and crunch. The sushi-style wrap was unforgettable. We had the salmon, paired with pickled cabbage, avocado, and their Aji Verde Crema, which bursts with cilantro and jalapeño. The seafood was fresh, but I didn't really find anything special about the bowls flavor wise. We all thought the bowls were just ok and didn't feel like we would order it again. The lomo saltado musubi was unique and pretty tasty! probably my favorite of what we ordered. Unfortunately the miso soup was SOO salty and strong. From the style, color, space to the type of utensils they use, their trays...even their bathroom is beautiful! This is the place to go for some really fresh and delicious poke and Masubi! We got the Konpa Bowl, Amante Roll, Lomo Saltado Papas Crisp Masubi, and the OG Spam Masubi. It was plenty for the 2 of us! Made by the Chef who is Japanese and either came from Peru or lived in Peru (hope I didn't get this wrong). He put both cultures together and came out with this special menu! Also, it's reasonably priced and they provide great service. Their signature sauces are a must-have, especially their Aji Verde Crema. The sauces sounded exciting... the Rocoto soy and aji amarillo passion fruit, but both lacked the spice (you traditionally see with these Peruvian peppers), however the traditional green sauce was yummy. My husband and I stopped by Konpa today for the first time. The menu looked great, and the variety of sauces really caught our attention. Because I can't eat gluten, I asked whether any of the sauces were gluten-free (either made without soy sauce or made with tamari instead). Unfortunately, all of their sauces currently contain soy sauce, so I wasn't able to try any of the main dishes. I ordered the pickles and miso soup, both of which were very good, and my husband had a salmon bowl that he absolutely loved. I'm writing this review to congratulate this new restaurant in CDM on their creative fusion dishes and to kindly ask the owner to consider offering tamari (gluten-free soy sauce) as a substitute in their delicious sauces. I'm really glad this place opened up in CDM. I ordered the makinui citron and it was delicious. It was $20, which is a little above an average price point but it was packed with a good amount of salmon so the value was worth it (and the salmon was seriously delicious and fresh, some of the best salmon I've had). The flavors of the makinui citron really popped (I got extra shoyu which paired really well with the sauce it came with). Some of the downsides were that my friend marked sesame allergy but there were still sesame seeds in her food. I would probably call in an allergy if ordering to go to ensure it's avoided in the food. I was also a little sad about the seasonal mochi I got, it seemed unfinished and was sticky/watery. I enjoyed that there were to-go containers are made of paper bc it was more eco friendly, and the avocado was super fresh!! I'm giving 5 stars because the quality of the fish and ingredients was exceptional, and the staff was very kind. They took a while longer than anticipated with our order but were very kind to offer a discount for next time. At $24 (the same price as the fish rolls), I won't be ordering again. The veg and mushrooms were quite tasty (but not abundant), and the value did not feel equivalent. Went to Konpa today for the first time. Amazing experience, just wish we had come here months ago. We had the Konpa bowl which was fantastic. Really fresh fish, greens were great, tomatoes and cucumbers super fresh. Also had the Makinui Sol hand roll which was also a 10+ and large enough for two people as it is two full hand rolls. Had a Maki bowl to go and the salmon was amazing as well. The 3 different sauces were all very good. Service was a 10+ and the ambiance is great as well. Super simple and clean.
