Wow the quality of the food here is amazing! I ordered the sweet shrimp miso soup which I loved was more than just the usual basic soup. It was so flavorful with the different veggies and had a large shrimp in it. The sparking canned water was also very unique and I asked for a few extra lemons to squeeze in the water. The fish on the sushi roll tasted very fresh and the sauces that accompanied it were mouth watering. The service was quick and the waitress was friendly! I was able to get a seat at the bar doing a walk in. It is a pretty small place so I definitely recommend making reservations.

Miki Sushi was such a wonderful experience! We made a reservation a few days in advance (highly recommend since seating is limited), and I'm so glad we did. The space is small and quaint with a cozy atmosphere where you can see the entire kitchen, but also peek-a-boo ocean views from the window seats. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. Our server provided fantastic recommendations, with some of our favorites being the Volcano Sizzle, Give You Energy and Hot Spicy Bay. Each dish came with its own unique sauce and all the flavors were absolutely incredible! What a hidden gem! We'll definitely be back.

Super unique sushi experience here at Miki. The founder was a female sushi chef who worked with Nobu previously, and the restaraunt continues in her honor (named after her too!) with all female sushi chefs which was a first for me to see. They are very skilled at their art and create incredible rolls and sauce flavour mixtures that I have never tasted before. Every item we had was a huge hit but I most highly recommend the Hot Rock and the Laguna Canyon. Very small inside which adds to the cozy community feel of this place. Will be adding this to my sushi spot rotation for sure.

Unique destination! Love that they create custom sauces for everything and portion it for you, so no soy sauce is needed or offered. Servers are friendly and attentive. Salma was amazing!! Small restaurant, so be sure to have a reservation on the weekend.

This restaurant has hands down some, if not the best sushi I've ever had. The quality and taste is top notch. Make sure to snag a reservation since the location is pretty small but accommodating.

Came here at opening on a Saturday night (make sure to reserve!) with two dear friends and had a fantastic evening. Bustling and small, but such a cozy restaurant! Hannah was our server and she did a wonderful job with giving recommendations and making sure we were attended to. We ordered a ton of different nigiri and one roll, which was enough to fill three people. We also had some nice green tea, which they thankfully kept topped up as I love politely guzzling tea while having sushi. My friends had most of the nigiri but could attest to their deliciousness. I personally had the salmon lotus nigiri and prairie and the freshness was amazing (I'm a salmon enjoyer). They don't offer soy sauce in this establishment, as the offerings are meant to standalone and have their own flavor profiles, which I found to be pretty neat. My only gripe is that I wasn't informed that substituting out crab for spicy tuna in my prairie roll (which was really yummy!) would add an extra $2 - just a note for the servers for next time! Overall a great experience and would love to come back soon. As my friend remembers chef Miki before her passing, he was touched that it did well to pass on her legacy :)

The sushi at Miki is exceptional! The only reason Miki Sushi and Sake is a 4/5 is because when we did a walk-in last night versus having a reservation we were told that there would only be two options of fish for us: salmon and yellow tail, versus the table next to us (who had a reservation) was able to get the full fish and seafood menu choices. The service however was extraordinary, we loved our server Salma who was extremely helpful in suggesting items that were not only Gluten-Free (celiac safe) as well as mouth watering and delicious--with us only having two fish choices to work with (the sashimi, they did sneak in another fish choice ). We also enjoyed The Laguna Canyon roll (Normally made: Albacore, tuna, yellowtail, salmon, snapper, crab, masago, cucumber, avocado, sriracha, scallions, spring mix, daikon, kaiware, sesame seeds, crunchies, ponzu, Miki dressing) which was still bursting with flavor even though it was created with only salmon and yellow tail. We enjoyed sashimi: the Purple Ginger and Sexy truffle and we had Salmon Peppered (fusion nigiri) and The Wich (looks like a seaweed sandwich with chopped up salmon inside)--yummmmm. And to sweeten our tastebuds we had the crème brûlée--wow!!!! Although the resturant is small, the ambience is very inviting and cozy. Miki sushi and sake is a unique experience and one you don't want to miss dinning at when you are visiting Laguna Beach! My advice--make a reservation so that you can have the full experience of this dining sensation!

I look so silly! The waitress is great!

Hanah was our server and the food and service were amazing. A+ I love the prairie roll and the sake was spot on. It our first time here. We will be back as long as they will have us! They accommodate gluten and cheese free needs

My daughter and I enjoyed a very nice dinner here after spending some time at the beach. We love the atmosphere and the fact that it's all female chefs/staff team. We were so impressed with the food and are planning to come back again the next chance we get.

There's patio and indoor seating. You can bring your dog and sit in the patio area. We didn't have a view of the water but the restaurant is on the 3 floor so you should have a view at some part of the restaurant. It's quite hidden unless you know of the spot. There is a sign on the building when you're driving off PCH but I've never noticed it. This will have to be our new go to restaurant when we are Laguna. It's close to the beach, delicious and honestly affordable for the quality of the fish you're getting. It's comparable to the omakase sushi we had in Seattle. We haven't found anything in CA that comes close to it till we tried this spot. It's not AYCE but honestly we can't even eat that much anymore, and the amount we order made is full but not like bloated. Fish was so fresh and flavorful. We asked for a refil of ginger then we notice a group of servers and workers watching the World Cup game with another customer. About 20 mins go by I had to ask another server for ginger ... not ideal. First came out 6 sashimi pieces Very lean pieces was lacking flavor (felt like I bought grocery market fish ) Then came some nigiri The rice was the lowest quality and driest rice ive had at a sushi restaurant. As I was picking up each nigiri individual rice was falling out and the texture ruined the experience. Most of the nigiri had "lava salt" at this point that's all I tasted. Then came the pressed sushi which seemed like a slice of salmon smothered in their dry rice like hamburger buns and topped with seared salmon. We had to take the salmon and out and discard the rice. Handroll was a bluefin one I believed. Took a bite into it and the seaweed paper was stale and wet which made it incredible chewy. We also ordered a bottle of sake Overall very low quality fish and service.

We often go for the happy hour specials although we've sampled widely in the menu. Yesterday we enjoyed four delicious Nigiri, the Chef's special role, and the chicken Karaage. The Nigiri were fresh and included salmon, steelhead, Hamachi, and another fish that I can't remember, but it was delicious. Each was served with the perfect amount of garnish and required absolutely no tamari. The chef's roll had a tempura bean in the middle and then Hamachi on top with a beautiful lemon aïoli. It sounds odd, but it was scrumptious. The chicken karage is always crisp and delicious and served with a nice aïoli on the side. We have been to this restaurant probably 15 times sometimes just us and often with a large family group. It never disappoints. The service is super nice and friendly with a lot of expertise. (I would love it if they were more specific on how to find the location on their website!) We walked in and the hostess was nice enough to seat us right away although we didn't have a reservation + we were only allotted 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to their next reservation which was doable for us. We ordered a few rolls and to be completely honest they were just weird. One roll had fish eggs on top (which can be normal for sushi) but it did not pair well with the flavor profile of the roll. The chicken karaage was definitely just slightly breaded and tasted very bland although it can be very tasty + juicy at other restaurants I've been to. The only thing I loved out of everything we ordered was the sauce that came with the shrimp tempura- it was savory plus creamy. I almost wanted to have the sauce with the chicken! According to the server, this restaurant makes the majority of their items in house. Could possibly be the reason why everything wasn't the best. The restaurant is a little pricey as well!

For reference, this was my Google review: "It wasn't nearly good enough--neither the food nor the experience--to justify treating customers poorly. The chef seems to lack self-awareness. Message me if you are curious about the details. Happy to share with anyone." Now the owner is claiming my review is "false" and says he's taking legal action. He told me I need to read their "policy." I'm sorry--but I go to a restaurant for the food and experience, not to study policies. He also accused me of making people uncomfortable because I tried to take a picture of my boyfriend on his birthday. The whole time I was there, I already felt like I was walking on thin ice--and now it's very clear why. So now what--people can't leave honest reviews without fear of being threatened with legal action? He sent me his lawyer's contact information and said it's "not a threat." Then what is it? It honestly feels like he just wants me to delete my review. I won't be touching it. I will never go back to this restaurant. And people should be aware--if you leave a negative review, you might get contacted by the owner with a lawyer involved. This is on another level. Truly unbelievable. If you truly want to resolve this situation, an apology would be far more appropriate than threatening me.

Chef Miki Izumisawa is the only female sushi chef I know of to this day, and still consider her one of my heroes. She is an artist at heart, getting inspiration from nature to create unique nigiri, cut rolls and hand rolls. She has trained more female sushi chefs to execute her masterpieces, and it's really awesome to see these bad ass women challenging Japanese gender norms! Traditional nigiri run about $7, whereas, fusion nigiri are priced around $8, so I suggest trying fusion pieces, which are thoughtfully crafted with house-made sauces and flavorful garnishes. I recently came with four friends around 5pm and was graciously seated outside. We each ordered the Sexy Hand Roll and a cut roll to share and that seemed to be enough. We also tried the Toro Fusion nigiri, Tuna Fusion nigiri with spicy miso and chili paste as well as a recommended appetizer of seared albacore and a delicious gingery, garlicky sauce. Each bite of everything had umami, texture, fragrance, and beauty, playing with all our senses. The restaurant is teeny tiny, and only open from 4:30-8:30pm, so I recommend arriving when they open or make a reservation 24 hours in advance. Note that they only take reservations at 5pm though. Street parking is metered and a bit pricey and challenging being close to Main Laguna, but so worth the hassle!
