Ordered sunset roll for takeout ($17). Rice was hard and dry, making the sushi not enjoyable to eat. Would not recommend.

One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The waitress was not just rude--she actually yelled profanities at me during the meal. Completely unprovoked and shockingly unprofessional. I was stunned. On top of that, the sushi was awful. The fish tasted old, the rice was dry, and the entire meal felt like something you'd get from a gas station, not a restaurant. When I brought it up (very calmly), I was met with attitude and disrespect instead of any attempt to make things right. This place is a joke. If you enjoy being cursed at while eating bad sushi, maybe you'll love it here. Otherwise, stay far away.

    Baked Salmon Roll after delivery

As a door dash delivery, this review is simply the quality and flavor. Nicely made rolls with true sushi rice that stay together even after delivery and dipping into soy sauce. We had baked salmon, rainbow, and salmon nigiri. Slight fishy hint to flavor, and some chew to it but overall pretty fresh; compared to island sushi (Hawaii) we are used too. Salmon lacked some flavor but as a whole 4/5 rating, as it indeed hit the sushi spot.

The sushi was excellent and came out quickly. We ordered the Laguna Beach and Crunch Roll--both were delicious! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. We love this place--whether for takeout or dining in. Highly recommend!

Little area outside that's dog friendly!

My boyfriend and I love coming here and I will explain the loss of star in a moment, but let's start with you should definitely still check this place out. There's a little outside spot that has a few tables that is dog friendly which we love! Also the food is really good and fresh. Service is very fast and they always get our order correct and are super friendly. I really like the spicy pork (I am normally not a pork person)! But it is the right amount of heat and flavor that is Kurt perfect with rice. The custom poki bowls are really great option with always fresh fish. Now the lack of one star comes from a few things. 1. Something about the tempura batter used I am just not a fan of and it leaves a strange taste on my palette. 2. The miso soup was strangely sweet almost like some sugar or something was added. 3. The price of some of the items is a bit high...but it's a sushi restaurant in a popular center in Irvine so that is to be expected. Overall though definitely come in a try a variety of their options!

Good sushi place on the high end related to cost but you are in Irvine, everything is expensive. Great for lunch and walking distance from work for me.

I've been in this plaza many times but didn't know there was a sushi spot, but I'm so glad I discovered a new sushi place I can go to! My friend and I got the Red Dragon, shrimp tempura, and Laguna Beach. The laguna beach was definitely the best and I would 100% get it again. The red dragon was a 3/5 and shrimp tempura was really good. I'd definitely be back and would try another roll in place of the red dragon

First time visiting and here are my takeaways: 1. You can sit anywhere you'd like after being acknowledged by the host. The host also stands behind the ordering counter as the restaurant doubles for take out and sit in. 2. Menu prices are a little bit pricey and I know this because when you look at basic items, they are overpriced. One portion of miso soup is $4, but I guess with todays inflated prices, you can consider it normal. This is the standard cup you'd get at other restaurants. The rolls, however, can be considered fair pricing for what they are. A huge bonus is that these rolls are thicker and will fill you up! They're delicious and fresh as well. 3. Sushi Taka uses a paper menu that you can mark for items of choice and quantity. I'd come here again for a hungry, craving sushi day. Go straight for the special unique rolls. Don't waste too much time on the basic items because you will get full very quickly (:

Nice lady roll and crunch snack roll

Wow. We live close by and definitely slept on this place. The sushi rolls are packed with quality ingredients. One roll is perfect for one person for a nice filling lunch. They have a buy one get one half off for drinks every day. The service is very friendly and quick. We had a late lunch on a Saturday and it was quiet but some other tables were seated. It is a smaller restaurant but clean and a great place for lunch or dinner. Will definitely be trying it again! Especially for take out or dinner sometime soon.

Plate with cruch & rainbow roll!

This was my first time here and I had a great experience! We went with a friend who is a regular and knew the waitress. Apparently they are really good with making special orders upon request. For example, my friend has to watch his salt intake so instead of miso soup and salad he gets a double salad portion. He also gets some rolls with less sauce. There aren't any "lunch specials" but they always have the plate menu where you pick 2 items on the smaller menu list for $18 or 3 for $25. It also comes with a soup and salad. I ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Crunch Roll. Both were delicious. I could tell this restaurant uses good quality dish. My husband also ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Sunset Roll. The Sunset Roll ended up being my favorite, I'll have to order that next time!

Came here for dinner with my friend for a quick bite to eat since we were in the area. I was super hungry since we didnt eat all day so I decided to get the dinner bento with sushi, teriyaki salmon, and some other items. Service was nice and fast. Food was mediocre. nothing too special or OMG about it. Your typical sushi spot but nothing was work ranting about. Sushi was low key fresh but not what I am used to. They have an extensive menu and selection to choose from as well. IDK if I would come back in the area to eat here again tho. But if you want a quick fast and easy lunch or dinner sushi spot.... this is where you can stop by.

We started with the seaweed salad and yakitori, which were both tasty and made great appetizers. As nigiri lovers, we were excited to try all the different selections. My favorites were definitely the toro and yellowtail, and the uni was sweet and delicious! One thing I really appreciated was the fish-to-rice ratio. The nigiri had a small amount of rice, so you could really enjoy the fish without feeling too full too quickly. The fresh rolls were also yummy, with a good amount of fish and nicely balanced seasoning. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for good AYCE sushi at a great price. The staff were also super kind and friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable! What we ordered: -Seaweed Salad -Yakitori -Nigiri (tuna, toro, salmon, salmon belly, sweet shrimp, scallop, yellowtail, albacore, uni, salmon egg) -Pepper Me Crazy (in: spicy tuna, cucumber, top: yellowtail, jalapeno, sauce: mustard, hot sauce) -Salmon In & Out (in: spicy salmon, cucumber, jalapeno, top: salmon, jalapeno, sauce: spicy mustard, hot sauce) -Kaboom (in: spicy tuna, cucumber, jalapenos, top: albacore, jalapenos, green onions, sauce: garlic ponzu, hot sauce) -Tuna & Salmon Temaki (hand rolls)

It is definitely much busier now because of the AYCE menu. Definitely get on the waitlist when you arrive. Past few times we have been it gets busy during the lunch hours, and thus service is a bit slower. Nice seating inside with booths. Menu QR code will show you some pictures of what you want to order. We have been going down here for a while, so we have our favorites. The appetizers here are surprisingly very good! Garlic edamame and sesame chicken are our favs. I even have a soft spot for the house salad because the dressing is just yum. I rarely order salmon nigri, but for some reason this place is pretty good! The pieces I receive are always nicely portioned and soft. We never bother with the other rolls anymore because we know our favorite is the VEGAS ROLL! It's been my favorite roll since I started coming here. Literally no other sushi or Japanese restaurant has this combination of ingredients. Arrived on a Friday night around 5:30 PM and there was already a pretty decent line waiting to be seated. The interior dining area is fairly small, seating about 20 people total. We waited about 20 minutes for a party of three so not bad at all. The service was great, and the staff was super friendly and attentive. The interior dining area was a bit loud which was expected with how many folks were sitting in there eating and talking in addition to the music above, but it's manageable and nothing super overwhelming. Their menu is simple, but at the same time you have plenty of options. The go to order is obviously the Katsu combinations, which comes alongside a cabbage salad, miso soup, white rice, pickled daikon, and jalapeños, and don't forget their addictive katsu sauce. We tried their Hako Katsu, Hamburg Katsu, Cheese Katsu, potato croquettes, takoyaki, and shrimp tempura. Everything was well executed simple yet with a depth of flavor. Check out my photos for these items! We will absolutely be back and so glad that we finally tried this little hidden gem of a Katsu shop!

Our order arrived quickly and was neatly packaged in a beautiful bento-style box, making for a great first impression. **Curry Tonkatsu: 5/5** The tonkatsu was the highlight, with golden, crispy breading and a pronounced crunch in every bite. The curry had a bold, deeply savory taste that complemented the cutlet exceptionally well. Steamed rice cut through the richness, while the crunchy cabbage salad provided a light, refreshing contrast. A side of pickled radish and jalapeños added a bright acidity, with the creamy, tangy katsu sauce pairing perfectly with the fried cutlet. Portion sizes were impressively generous, leaving plenty to enjoy later. We also upgraded to a combo with a California roll and gyoza, though both sides were fairly unremarkable by comparison. **Tanuki Udon: 5/5** Simple yet incredibly comforting, the tanuki udon featured a warm broth with a delicate sweetness and plenty of umami depth. The noodles were thick, chewy, and bouncy, making them especially satisfying to eat. An assortment of toppings further elevated the dish, layering in complex flavors and contrasting textures. Overall, Hako absolutely delivered with its delicious, well-executed dishes and is a must-try for anyone craving a hearty Japanese meal.

A few standout dishes from our order: Seared Engawa w/ Caviar: Engawa is one of my favorite cuts of halibut in general, and this is a must-try. Not every place has it since it's just the fin muscle and there's only so much per fish. Lightly torched to render the rich fat, topped with caviar--it completely melted. Truffle Chawanmushi & Beef Tongue: Silky smooth custard with great aroma, and the beef tongue was crazy tender. Wagyu Yukke & Wagyu Nigiri: High-end marbling, super flavorful, and a great change of pace between the fish courses. Nigiri (Striped Jack, Amberjack, Sweet Shrimp, Red Snapper): Simple, classic, and extremely fresh. Service was attentive, and the meal flowed naturally.
