Ordered sunset roll for takeout ($17). Rice was hard and dry, making the sushi not enjoyable to eat. Would not recommend.

One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The waitress was not just rude--she actually yelled profanities at me during the meal. Completely unprovoked and shockingly unprofessional. I was stunned. On top of that, the sushi was awful. The fish tasted old, the rice was dry, and the entire meal felt like something you'd get from a gas station, not a restaurant. When I brought it up (very calmly), I was met with attitude and disrespect instead of any attempt to make things right. This place is a joke. If you enjoy being cursed at while eating bad sushi, maybe you'll love it here. Otherwise, stay far away.

Baked Salmon Roll after delivery

As a door dash delivery, this review is simply the quality and flavor. Nicely made rolls with true sushi rice that stay together even after delivery and dipping into soy sauce. We had baked salmon, rainbow, and salmon nigiri. Slight fishy hint to flavor, and some chew to it but overall pretty fresh; compared to island sushi (Hawaii) we are used too. Salmon lacked some flavor but as a whole 4/5 rating, as it indeed hit the sushi spot.

The sushi was excellent and came out quickly. We ordered the Laguna Beach and Crunch Roll--both were delicious! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. We love this place--whether for takeout or dining in. Highly recommend!

Little area outside that's dog friendly!

My boyfriend and I love coming here and I will explain the loss of star in a moment, but let's start with you should definitely still check this place out. There's a little outside spot that has a few tables that is dog friendly which we love! Also the food is really good and fresh. Service is very fast and they always get our order correct and are super friendly. I really like the spicy pork (I am normally not a pork person)! But it is the right amount of heat and flavor that is Kurt perfect with rice. The custom poki bowls are really great option with always fresh fish. Now the lack of one star comes from a few things. 1. Something about the tempura batter used I am just not a fan of and it leaves a strange taste on my palette. 2. The miso soup was strangely sweet almost like some sugar or something was added. 3. The price of some of the items is a bit high...but it's a sushi restaurant in a popular center in Irvine so that is to be expected. Overall though definitely come in a try a variety of their options!

Good sushi place on the high end related to cost but you are in Irvine, everything is expensive. Great for lunch and walking distance from work for me.

Shrimp Tempura

I've been in this plaza many times but didn't know there was a sushi spot, but I'm so glad I discovered a new sushi place I can go to! My friend and I got the Red Dragon, shrimp tempura, and Laguna Beach. The laguna beach was definitely the best and I would 100% get it again. The red dragon was a 3/5 and shrimp tempura was really good. I'd definitely be back and would try another roll in place of the red dragon

First time visiting and here are my takeaways: 1. You can sit anywhere you'd like after being acknowledged by the host. The host also stands behind the ordering counter as the restaurant doubles for take out and sit in. 2. Menu prices are a little bit pricey and I know this because when you look at basic items, they are overpriced. One portion of miso soup is $4, but I guess with todays inflated prices, you can consider it normal. This is the standard cup you'd get at other restaurants. The rolls, however, can be considered fair pricing for what they are. A huge bonus is that these rolls are thicker and will fill you up! They're delicious and fresh as well. 3. Sushi Taka uses a paper menu that you can mark for items of choice and quantity. I'd come here again for a hungry, craving sushi day. Go straight for the special unique rolls. Don't waste too much time on the basic items because you will get full very quickly (:

Nice lady roll and crunch snack roll

Wow. We live close by and definitely slept on this place. The sushi rolls are packed with quality ingredients. One roll is perfect for one person for a nice filling lunch. They have a buy one get one half off for drinks every day. The service is very friendly and quick. We had a late lunch on a Saturday and it was quiet but some other tables were seated. It is a smaller restaurant but clean and a great place for lunch or dinner. Will definitely be trying it again! Especially for take out or dinner sometime soon.

Plate with cruch & rainbow roll!

This was my first time here and I had a great experience! We went with a friend who is a regular and knew the waitress. Apparently they are really good with making special orders upon request. For example, my friend has to watch his salt intake so instead of miso soup and salad he gets a double salad portion. He also gets some rolls with less sauce. There aren't any "lunch specials" but they always have the plate menu where you pick 2 items on the smaller menu list for $18 or 3 for $25. It also comes with a soup and salad. I ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Crunch Roll. Both were delicious. I could tell this restaurant uses good quality dish. My husband also ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Sunset Roll. The Sunset Roll ended up being my favorite, I'll have to order that next time!

I really loved the private dining room with the beautiful bonsai tree as the backdrop. It created a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere, and the room gave us plenty of privacy to enjoy our celebration together. The food quality was outstanding. We ordered the Premium Chirashi ($80), which was incredibly fresh and absolutely excellent. The Seared Scallop ($31) was perfectly prepared and delicious. The Tuna Pringles ($17) were both fun and flavorful, with crispy wonton skin adding a great texture. The A5 Wagyu Beef ($70) was premium quality and exceptionally tender. We also enjoyed the Salmon Skin Salad ($20), as well as the King Salmon Sushi ($28) and Hokkaido Scallop Sushi ($27), both of which were fresh and delicious. For dessert, we had the Amato Special Black Sesame Ice Cream ($15), which was unique, rich, and a perfect way to end the meal. The service was excellent from start to finish. Our servers were professional, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcomed throughout our visit. We even had a fun conversation with one of our waiters about the World Cup matches, which made the experience even more enjoyable and personal. It's those little interactions that made us feel like valued guests rather than just customers. IZAKAYA OSEN truly delivers a high-end dining experience with exceptional food, beautiful ambiance, and outstanding service. We had a wonderful birthday lunch, and I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and look forward to visiting again.

For the kushiyaki, we ordered the beef tongue, prime beef, chicken gizzard, and bacon enoki mushroom skewers. Every skewer was packed with flavor. The prime beef was especially tender. For sushi, we tried the Blue Crab Uni Bowl and the Premium Sushi Hachi Mori (8 pieces). While the sushi was excellent, the standout for me was definitely the Blue Crab Uni Bowl. It felt like a DIY hand roll experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful, spacious, and has a great atmosphere. There's a parking structure available, and the restaurant validates parking, which makes visiting even more convenient. Overall, everything from the food to the ambiance was outstanding. Service was amazing during dinner rush. I would definitely come back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great sushi and kushiyaki!

Inside was busier that night, due to Fifa on the TVs. The Mongolian beef was probably my favorite, eaten with the garlic noodles and cucumber salad. I love a good flavor combo that is also food group balanced. The menu was extensive, and included all variations of sushi. I appreciated the options of Fusion, which had something for everyone.

The carrot ginger soup was a nice appetizer, and the black rice used in some of the rolls was an interesting twist. one thing to be aware of...when your server asks what type of wasabi you'd like, the fresh and pickled wasabi both come with an additional charge. Unfortunately, our server never mentioned this. She assumed it was common knowledge, but we ended up being charged $9 for the fresh wasabi and $3 for the pickled wasabi without any warning. at one point, i asked if we could try both types, and she replied, "Of course," which made it seem like it wasn't an issue or an added cost. If we were paying for both, there wouldn't have been any reason to ask for permission in the first place. When we asked if she could let us know next time that wasabi was extra, she simply said that fresh wasabi is "always extra." That may be true, but it's something that should be communicated before ordering rather than assumed. while the ingredients were fresh, I didn't find the food or the experience memorable enough to justify the price. Not authentic either..There are plenty of other sushi spots with better value and a more transparent dining experience, so I probably won't be back.
