I've tried a ton and all are delicious! My favorite rolls are: Beauty Millionaire Orange Blossom Yuzu Another really wonderful feature is they offer their food for takeout and delivery. The best thing about this is they package their rolls in these gorgeous boxes where they separate the rolls from sauce. read more

My experience here at Yuzu was awful... First- the waiter tried to pour me a glass of water but completely missed the glass and poured it all over my place setting and phone. Second - If you have any allergies or do not eat particular food items they WILL NOT accommodate you. They told me it was because they "were busy and couldn't afford to sacrifice ticket times for other guest". Then shortly after I saw two sushi Chefs standing around and talking and laughing. If you don't eat mayonnaise then 7/8's of the menu will be off limits to you will not be able to eat. They slather mayonnaise on everything, which is a sign they are trying to cover something up with the food or fish. The truth is Yuzu and their staff don't care about your allergies or food preferences, they dont care about customers. read more

I have heard many great things about this place and finally got to try it when our friends took us out to celebrate. We had reservations at 5pm on a Saturday and it was not too busy, but started picking up later into the evening. Place was not too loud, just enough to hear conversation within your table. If you come for one thing.. make it the A5 Wagyu Nigiri.. by far the highlight of our meal. We came on a Sunday early dinner. Although we made reservations, there seemed to be plenty of walk ins as it wasn't peak dinner yet. This small yet cozy restaurant is so chic, so upscale and literally blew me away with the freshness of each plate we ordered. Crispy Calamari was not too salty which tends to be a miss for us at times but this was yum! The crispy rice/spicy toro was just the right amount of heat. The triple belly sashimi was so aesthetically pleasing and fresh with each bite. I loved the spicy mayo with the Laguna beach roll and the snowflake roll had a nice zest with the yuzu sauce on top. The golden eye snapper carpaccio was incredibly refreshing. We ended our meal with tempura ice cream and fresh fruit But when I come back, all I need is the carpaccio and the wagyu, like what an experience. Highly rec! My best friend took me here for my birthday dinner so it was my first time at Yuzu LB. We had reservations and upon arrival, we were seated right away. We ordered sake, a couple different rolls (the Miss Lyn is a must try!), spicy crispy tuna rice, and the albacore fried onion plate. Everything tasted so fresh and so good. The albacore had slices of jalapeño, toasted garlic, fried onions, and ponzu sauce all over it. I wish it came with more than (6) pieces cuz this is not a shareable plate to me!! But Yuzu is also a more refined and elegant sushi restaurant, so I had to remind myself to check the AYCE expectations at the door! Service was on point and we never went without needing anything. I am so picky about sushi, but this place hits all the marks. The sushi rice is the perfect temperature. The seaweed on the hand roll is light and crispy. We sat at the bar. The server was really attentive and thorough. We got some mixed nigiri, and it was fabulous. Great cuts. Great flavor. I also got a California hand-roll, which I always get at least one hand-roll when I go out. I find it always tells you the quality of the place. We also got the miso black cod, and it was everything you could ever want. Buttery, flaky and a tiny bit sweet. The inside is beautiful. Great for a date night. The lighting and color is really nice. We made a last minute reservation mid-week for lunch and the place was not busy at all. Service was friendly and helpful. I had the three hand roll lunch special. The hand rolls were bigger than I expected. I really enjoyed the salmon with avocado and the yellowtail. For me the spicy tuna was too mushy and the hot sauce drowned any taste of fish. My husband had the chicken katsu bento box which was fabulous value. The generous portion of chicken was crisp and tasty. The gioza were fried nicely. The two pieces of salmon sashimi were buttery. When the food started coming we literally had no where to put the food. This restaurant is very small. It is not meant to be for bigger parties than 4. I would not come here for a bigger party in the future as it was very crowded and a little strange that the table we were on, the table next to us on the outside was just right there. Octopus carpaccio was delish and beautifully presented. Chicken katsu--- so good! The meat was so tender, outside crispy. Fillet mignon- good! Albacore fried onion yum! Calamari yum! Snowflake--delish I love the yuzu freshness. Millionaire-- I love this sauce in the middle, it's everything! Lychee Martini was good however didn't taste any alcohol. Too weak for me. Matcha ice cream for bday was beautifully presented and delicious! Yuzu cheesecake -wow !! Love that its location is in downtown Laguna beach. Perfect for a stroll pre/post dinner. They provided helpful recommendations as the menu is extensive with creative sashimi/sushi/rolls. It's also fairly reasonable (at least compared to Bay Area prices!) Ordered the habachi filet mignon plate for dinner and it's so tasty and good. It hit the spot as I had been craving a meal of protein, carbs and veggies. The filet mignon bites come with sauted mushrooms and onions in a flavorful sauce. The crispy rice with spicy tuna is fantastic. Ordered that both times. There's a nice chili oil that gives it a nice kick. Also ordered the edamame (not spicy) both days too. The sea salt that comes with it is money. Gives it the perfect complement. From their signature rolls, we ordered the snowflake and yuzu which are both terrific. We also ordered the monster and salmon new nigiri. The monster is great! The hand rolls are the only things that didn't wow us as it was a pretty small in comparison to the other orders. It was tasty though. Went during lunch. No crowd at all. The fish was fresh, the Nigiri delivered the right ratio of fish to rice and the rolls were well-executed. I'd go back for sure. However, I'd encourage them to get more creative with some of their rolls. They have access to the freshest local fish. So sear it, or drizzle it with garlic oil and lemon juice and serve it with flash fried local greens. The execution is on point. Now, step outside the everyday. Get a little wild! read more

We came here over the weekend for dinner. We had a reservation and arrived a little early, but we were seated right away with no issues. That said, this location is nowhere near the level of their Costa Mesa counterpart, where I'm a regular. This place is tiny, very busy, and clearly understaffed. We ordered several items off the menu, and if you've been to the Costa Mesa location and enjoy the food, it's good to know that they share the same menu. While the food quality is consistent, the overall experience is night and day. The most notable difference was the staff especially the sushi chef who had a cold and unapproachable demeanor. When we asked for recommendations or requested anything, it felt like we were inconveniencing them. I'm not expecting a full conversation, but a simple recommendation would've been appreciated. Instead, it seemed like they didn't want to be there or deal with people at all. Maybe I'm just used to the warm, friendly energy at the Costa Mesa location, where everyone is genuinely happy to serve, eager to offer suggestions, and always excited to tell you about the special fish of the day. In my opinion, it's the combination of food and staff that makes a place truly great. You can have amazing food, but if the staff feels cold or disconnected, it just doesn't make me want to come back. We ordered the following: Brussels Sprouts Chips, Tokyo Nachos, Cucumber Salad, Salmon Skin Salad, "Are You Kidding Me" and "Dark Night" rolls, A5 Wagyu, Bluefin, and Golden Eye Snapper, Sweet Shrimp Nigiri. Pretty in Pink Cocktail and the Cheesecake for dessert. All great dishes, but the lack of hospitality overshadowed the meal. Unfortunately, this will be my first and last visit to this location. Wow Yuzu is insanely good. The inside is small but cute. We got the spicy tuna crispy rice to start which was perfection. Then we got the yellowtail nigiri and the golden eye snapper nigiri literally both just melted in your mouth with such bold flavors. Then we shared the millionaire roll which was perfection too. After arriving at Yuzu, I discovered that Yuzu in Laguna Beach had been open approximately one week and is the second of their two restaurants. With what appears to be a great following at their Costa Mesa location, it is good to know that they will now have the ability to share their wonderful offerings in the Southern end of town. Yuzu in Laguna Beach is a great find for me for the reasons below. The location is very convenient and among the bounty of Italian and contemporary spots to dine, it's great to enjoy Japanese in such great city. Accommodations here include seating outside along the sidewalk, a few tables inside and a horseshoe sushi bar. While my sushi preparer was primarily Warren, all of the folks behind the bar worked as a team and were prompt in getting you whatever you need. My servers, Vann and Apple, were super friendly and attentive and could not have been better. My selections included several of my favorites that helped me assess quality and preparation approaches . . . my M.O. when trying a new location. I had their Trio of oysters that includes 1/2 dozen and was served with three different sauces and a lemon wedge. They consisted of a Ponzu jello, melon sorbet (of sorts), and another tangy fruit sauce. A bit out of the ordinary, but all of them accented the fresh and meaty oysters with my favorite combination being the Ponzu jello. Excellent rendition. I proceeded to have nigiri style sushi that included: Yellowtail, Salmon, Shima Aji, Seared Salmon belly and Scallops and a Salmon Skin handroll. All of these cuts of fish were very fresh and appropriately portioned. I'll note that my favorites were the Seared Salmon Belly, Shima Aji and the Scallops. The Shima Aji and Scallops were prepared with their approaches, but my choice for the Seared Salmon Belly was with a Ponzu sauce. These were particularly exceptional. The handroll turned out to be a bit difficult to eat as the skin seemed to have been deep fried which took away flavor and was on the tougher side to bite through. Their only foul ball . . . so to speak. One thing that you will find dining here is that they will accommodate your preference without any hesitation. Super friendly and great approaches to how they serve their items. For a new place (in Laguna Beach), there was no sense of needing to work out any rough spots as they operated with great efficiency and fresh food. I'm giving Yuzu 5 stars along with their great location. Bon appetite! read more

We visited last night (Sunday) for the first time and had heard good things about the food. The food lived up to the recommendations. We loved the Millionaire and Monster rolls. We were disappointed that they did not have offer still rosé (feels like this should be available during the summer in Laguna Beach). Also, when we were seated around 8:20 they told us they closed at 9:00, and at exactly 9:00 pm, they turned on several very bright lights right above our patio table which absolutely killed the mood/vibe and felt like very poor hospitality.
