I've eaten from here twice, and I really enjoyed their meats, but the 2nd time was enough until they improve. There was a short woman working here who looked like she was twitching, and I think she stole some of our change when we gave her $60 on a $56 bill (we did not tip her). As far as the food, it's okay. I love their ribs which fall off the bone, as well as their smoked chicken and hushpuppies. However, they have the WORST FRENCH FRIES I HAVE EVER HAD in Cowpens. Second and last time I will ever come here.. food was cold. Told them about it and they said they would bring new sides, it never happened.. paid full price for the meal still.. I can make better bbq on a George Foreman grill blindfolded. The dog bones they have up front are covered with flies circling them which is right next to the food they serve. This place is just terrible. Not to mention the 17 year old girl that served us was talking awful about her job and the fact that she had been there for four hours. We wanted to give this place a try today since they are close to home, and we like the fact that they still smoke meat with wood. We ordered 2 combo plates--one with chicken & ribs, the other with pork and ribs. We both ordered "smoked green beans", I had coleslaw and my GF had red skin potato salad. The chicken/rib combo included 1 chicken thigh (I was not asked if I preferred white or dark) which had good smoke flavor and was tender and moist. The portion of ribs was ample. The ribs were good, but not outstanding. They did have the expected smoky flavor. The pulled pork portion was maybe 4 oz. and was good. The "smoked green beans" looked good--they appeared to have been seasoned with bits of smoked pork, but when I tasted them, they had so much SUGAR in them that they were inedible. Who puts sugar in green beans?? Neither of us could eat them. Very disappointing. The coleslaw was good--fresh, not swimming in mayonnaise like many southern places. My GF said her red potato salad was good. A piece of white "Texas toast" was included in each combo. We tasted all 3 sauces before our food arrived: a mild red, a spicy red and a mustard-based one. They were all much too sweet for either of us. We stopped by a supermarket and bought a vinegar-based BBQ sauce, which was OK after being diluted with vinegar to cut the sugar. The restaurant was clean, and the folks there were hospitable and friendly. read more

Visiting the Gaffney, SC area and the family looked this small establishment up in the quaint town of Cowpens. We were greeted by two young ladies who were very sweet and attentive. The Sweet Tea is fantastic! Most of us ordered the bbq pulled pork which was very tender and the sauce was superb. We had the same thing the night before up the road in Gaffney, and it was nowhere as juicy and flavorful. The sides I could live without, as they seemed pretty basic. The food came VERY quick. Some of the best bbq I've had. We split a Bluegrass Special plate, added 2 extra vegetables and for less than $20, we are stuffed. Our plate included fall off the bone ribs, chicken and bbg, 2 sides, toast, 2 EXTRA premium sides and drinks. It was more than we could eat and all was delicious.
