Ikes reminds me of the old style tavern. Restaurants of my youth in Pennsylvania looks like the neighbor Budd place to grab a beer, but has the grill with it. I do recommend calling it had to be sure they're open. There are hours could be a little bit odd that said very nice people. The food is good not great. I got the cheeseburger and added a slice of bologna which was the thickest slice of bologna? I think I've ever seen, but I gotta say it didn't have a ton of flavor. I ordered a cheeseburger. I wanted it not overdone,but cooked. The service was fast and great. When I bit into it I couldn't eat it! It was raw. The server was kind, and told me no problem I'll have them fix u another one. They took the uneaten burger with them. I received my new burger,and it was also on the rare side,but I ate half of it. I went to pay and she gave me a total of 20.68 I didn't even think about it at the time. I got to thinking about it and looked up the menu price they I guess had charged me for both burgers. It was very busy, they had three servers working and three or four people working the grill area. They were all very awesome. Total dive bar atmosphere, we were at a big table and another family sat at the other end. So fun! The food was amazing, the onion rings and fried okra were both lightly battered. Ike's is a great place to come for a burger and a beer. The patio outside is delightful on a night afternoon. The service is so friendly and welcoming. There are a couple of drawbacks which is why 4 stars instead of 5. They only serve cans and bottles. I really miss drafts. The second thing is the service is a bit slow on the patio. A Spartanburg institution! Great place for great food. It does get very crowded in there, so if you don't like sharing a table with other folks or being really close to other customers, it's probably not the place for you, however they do have an outside seating area as well. I came down with food poisoning after eating here Saturday that is only now starting to subside. I had a hot dog with chi and slaw, and it makes me ill to even think about it. Ike's truly is a Spartanburg local neighborhood hot spot. It's not a big place, maybe even a little cramped on really busy visits nonetheless, it's homey-feel is what keeps the locals returning. We moved to Drayton in September and passed by this joint a few times. Sometimes there were no cars, other times is was PACKED! It looks like a hole in the wall, but we had to check it out. It is truly a neighborhood restaurant! Their hours are very limited, but when they're open.....you know! We sat at the bar both times, watching them cook those big ol burgers on the grill, saw the potatoes being made in to fries. The homemade chips.....Amazing!!! We are hooked. A couple things to know: 1. Fries, Tator tots, homemade chips do NOT come with the meal, they cost extra. The burgers start at 7.99 and go up. 2. You sit inside, which is tight, you'll smell like a burger joint on the way out. 3. Staff are amazing and you can tell they are truly family, and they will treat you like family as well. 4. If you're a local in Spartanburg and haven't visited Ike's, I'd say you're a foreigner! This place has been around for decades and only the locals know it and do they enjoy it. It's a no frills souther grub joint that serves some really great favorites and will fill you up! 4/5 Fried Pickles $7.99 were delicious and a decent amount; I'd say maybe a little bit over priced but still very good. Love the sauce they give you on the side which is like a ranch dressing. 4/5 Steak Philly Cheese $10.99 was huge! The cheese was a little cold and not as goughy as I wished but it was good; came with home chips which is their house made potato chips. We also ordered a fried flounder plate which came with onion rings, but the onion rings were par fried from the source. Wish they made them fresh but it's more work. I got the Tuesday/Thursday cheeseburger lunch special. It came with chili, cheese, mustard and slaw, and tasted like what you might find at a good cookout, no better, no worse. This is my second time going to Ike's Korner Grille. It was on a Saturday at around 1:00 pm. The place was packed, even the outside seating was slim pickings. It was my friends birthday and although a resident from around Spartanburg for a few years, he had never been there. We were not disappointed, the food is amazing! My friend ordered a triple cheeseburger and he said it was the biggest burger he had ever eaten!! He loved it!! I ordered the Philly cheesesteak that is made with onions and jalapeño peppers (from a jar...so pickled), that's how it's listed on the menu (not a big jalapeño guy, but I figured I'd try it the way they had it on the menu. I'm glad I did! I added mushrooms for an extra buck. The sandwich was huge and delicious! It comes with their house made chips, or you can substitute (for an up charge) French fries, their fries are cut fresh and made to order, they are wonderful! So I chose to substitute the chips for fries. We also ordered a side of onion rings which are made right there, not from a bag of pre-battered onions from some food processing plant. They were fantastic! The onions were sweet and the rings were cooked to perfection (crispy but not overcooked). The burgers are made from fresh beef not frozen and grilled right behind the bar. The waitresses were very attentive (there were only two of them). They were "in the zone!!" Like I said, the place was packed, so these waitresses were very impressive! Ambiance?? Well, it was very loud inside, the patrons, staff and everyone had to speak loudly. I loved it and so did my friend. We shared a table with 6 other people from different parties, and they were just as nice and engaging as could be, while respecting each party's privacy. Overall... my cheeseburger was really good, fries were not good and very greasy. My sweet tea tasted like unsweetened tea. My total was almost 18 dollars!!! I love this hidden gem of Spartanburg! I always order a classic cheeseburger with everything on it. The burger is big and I usually split a half order of fried pickles because its a lot for one gal, even one who loves food! The fries are great, reminds me of how In-and-Out does it, potato slices straight into the fryer. The atmosphere is interesting because the restaurant looks like a house. Its a hometown greasy spoon bar but for some reason still feels cozy with the authentic neon lights and nostalgic photos. Service is friendly and while its not the quickest bite, its worth the wait. The patio is pretty good on a nice day but the view of the parking lot isn't ideal so I hope you have someone good looking to talk with!
