It pains me to write this review. This is the first review that I am actually embarrassed to write. But, these words need to be said and prospective clients should beware. I am going to preface my review by saying that I am a licensed esthetician, here in Maryland. I have been studying skin and giving facials for close to 16 years. I don't treat myself to facials often, as I am picky and I can give them to my self, albeit they aren't quite as relaxing. But, when I do choose to have a facial, I don't let the esthetician know that I am one as well. I do this because I truly want to enjoy the experience and be treated as a client and not a colleague. I scheduled my appointment last minute. I just lost a very close family member and my dear mother wanted to cheer me up and treat me to a gift card for a facial here. I was kind of surprised that I was able to make an appointment for a facial one hour later, but I kept an open mind. I was lead back to the "spa" area, which is literally just one room behind located just a little behind the registers. I filled out a form, changed and had my facial. The esthetician began by telling me how horrible my skin was. She told me that my skin was dehydrated and I had been in the sun too much and my skin looked older than I was. There was no steam used in the facial and no massage given. She told me that the products I use at home on my face were no good and then proceeded to tell me that I needed to upgrade my facial and purchase a bunch of products like La Mer in order to look better. An experience that was supposed to be relaxing ended up being stressful, hurtful and unenjoyable. I left feeling horrible about myself. I will never return. read more

Waiting outside at 9:43 this morning 12/21 to get in and buy some gift cards .. A girl rushes by me and says we don't open for 10 minutes .. I looked at my watch and said actually it's only 5 minutes .. She was curt and very rude and I was so taken back and put off I turned and another women said to me I would never shop in a store that someone spoke to me in that manner .. I wanted the gift cards but was so put off and after being reassured by another person I turned and left and refused to enter a store that so close to Christmas would talk to a customer so rudely especially when that employee was actually late for work .. I have visited this business twice now and have had the same experience. I contacted them by phone to see if they had a specific product, so that I didn't make an unnecessary trip, and left a voicemail which was never returned. As I entered the store, there appeared to be 2 sales people on the floor, one of which assured me that she would be right with me. After 20 minutes passed, I left due to other obligations. As a guy, I don't shop for fragrances often, but came here with my other half in a weekend looking for a specific Creed fragrance. We stopped by Nordstrom right before and they didn't have it. But then discovered through the power of Google that Creed was sold at this Blue Mercury. The staff at this store is super friendly and helpful! I can't stress that enough. There were 10+ types of Creed fragrances and we were trying to figure out what her favorite was. The staff let us spray all of them onto little test strips. Then walked us through a rating exercise to narrow them down. They then had her wear it and walk around other stores a bit to see if she liked how the fragrance smelled outside the overpowering smells in the store. Finally, she wasn't sure if she wanted the specific perfume she picked so the salesperson gave her a very generous sample so she could wear it for a week to see if she wanted to buy it. This Blue Mercury location is great. It always have everything I need and the girls there are fabulous! I will go out of my way if it means I get good customer service and I have always received it at the Wildwood store. Agree with the other reviewer - no greeting when I walked in, and the woman who finally did approach me was snooty and unhelpful. I was looking for something to help with my skin, although not sure exactly what I needed. I asked about price range and she told me they had nothing in my range. Immediately after, I found some products well below what I had quoted to her - that according to her they had none of - and would have purchased them if not for her horrible customer service. read more

Fabulous fabulous fabulous!! I went here looking for one product and learned the company policy that if it isn't in stock they can have another store ship it to you. I walked out of there having purchased all that I wanted and things I'd been considering. They tested products with me and didn't make me feel weird about asking any question. read more

I like this location of Bluemercury. Staff are knowledgeable about the skin and makeup products, and are helpful without being overbearing. Zhila, who does facials, is amazing. Best facial I've ever had and well worth the cost. read more

Had a great customer service experience yesterday with Pia, makeup artist for Laura Mercier, at Blue Mercury in Wildwood Shopping Center Bethesda. She spent TWO HOURS with me evaluating my current makeup bag and assessing what I needed to add to update current colors and products I already owned. Pia is a true expert makeup artist, and completely knowledgeable about her products. Not push AT ALL, which actually made me want to buy more. She was practically and designed a look for me that was realistic for my day-to-day life. I'll be back and bringing friends! read more

Since moving to Bethesda two years ago, this location has continued to disappoint me. The staff barely acknowledge you and unless you look like money, good luck with your even mediocre service. However, I was in a pinch and unable to get an appointment with another location so I made a same day appointment to get my eyebrows done. The person who took the call practically hung up on me when I asked to make an appointment. When I arrived, the only person to greet me was the aesthetician and she did a great job with my brows and addressing my skin. After, I asked her to help me with some moisturizer and she needed help from a colleague to ask a question. The response she got was "I'm on break". The girl who said this looked me dead in the eye as she chose to walk out the door. We proceed to check out and the lady has some issues with the technology. No big deal. However she tries to lean on another associate for help (while she was helping another customer) and the response is rude stating she "can't deal with you" right now. Meanwhile there are at least three other customers in the store, the lady being checked out by "can't deal with you" gets lackluster service and another lady walks up looking for help and no one stops to even say they will help. Customers enter the store and the only person saying hello is the one no other colleagues will help IN FRONT OF ME AND MY 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. We eventually get assistance from the other associate but it's only after some other aggressive hateful interaction with the aesthetician who all the while is kind and apologizing for her colleagues. At the end of the day, I don't know the history going on there but my understanding is this poor woman has been long term targeted with hate by her peers and management and not even in a back room setting. As a customer and human being, I was disgusted with what I saw and have experienced but I feel even worse for the Bethesda community that this is a business wanting our support. Right in the backyard of creator and CEOs home. This shop needs major cleaning - not training. This kind of hate won't be improved with a slap on the wrist. The associate who helped me is not only an immigrant but part of a protected class. Shame on this location for what felt like blatant racism. They won't see my business again and I demand they don't just post some lame comment about investigating the issue. Say what you want about performance issues but you hired and you are responsible to train, train and retrain. My 12 year old is still upset over the issue and "hopes she never has to see that again". Bethesda deserves bet 12/7 - it took some persistence, but I got a call back from the head of operations at BlueMercury. She's going to investigate and knows the store well. Let's hope things improve for all who work and shop there! read more

Went in yesterday to purchase some products...was NOT greeted by anyone although I could see several associates in the store. Found the product line I was looking for...still no one approached me to offer assistance. Went up to desk to check out...and the associate behind the desk was soooooo rude! Never said hello...never asked if I found what I was looking for...nothing! Guess I didn't 'fit the look' that they thought I should! Horrible customer service! Went in for an acne spot treatment and the woman helping me didn't really give me a chance to explain my skin type. She suggested two treatments from the same brand. I bought one and returned it a few days later because it made my skin very dry. When I asked the woman for a new suggestion she gave me the other treatment the woman showed me on my first visit. Since the first woman told me they were the same thing just different application I asked to see any other suggestions she had. She told me that was all they had. I realized these were the Bluemercury brand and that was all they were going to show me so I left. I know they have other acne treatments, but push the store brand on you. I also asked about moisturizer and they showed me something from the same brand! Will not be visiting this location again. read more

Stopped in on way to important event and it was such a nice atmosphere. New saleslady happily helped me and made recommendations that were custom to me and realistic. No pressure. Introduced me to a few brand and favorite items from other lines. She'd listen to my wishes (I like to bring out the green in my eyes; I won't really use a lip pencil every day) and recommended accordingly. I ended up walking out looking great and having bought about four of the items she'd used on me. Just a nice place and so much less hectic than Sephora or the mall beauty counters. read more
