It is a little confusing to find, but so worth it. Went in with no intention of buying anything, just to look and see what was there. Walked out happy with 2 new Laura Mercier brushes and $80.00 less. My BFF got a makeup application by an incredibly knowledgeable MUA and walked out with 8 new brushes a ton of new makeup and $500 poorer. But we had a good time and came away with new makeup skills too! So I had a good experience my first time there. Haven't gotten any spa services yet. read more

Ok so I was extra nervous about my first full brazilian. I had all kinds of worries... I mean I was trusting someone with my delicate parts. I saw Angela and I must say she was extremely professional, easy going, knowledgeable and hygienic through the entire process. I was really disappointed in this place. I walked in on Saturday and signed up for a light makeup application for Tuesday, for a family photo session. They quoted me $45 for the service and wrote me in their appointment book. When I arrived Tuesday, they said they were short staffed, so they didn't have anyone who could do it. (??) I didn't really have time to go all the way home and back out again to the photography studio and I had on no makeup at all, so I didn't have many options. Instead, they recommended I use a sales rep/makeup artist they had for a particular makeup brand and I wound up spending $90+ on a face cream I hadn't intended to buy. Even that was a lot less than they would normally expect someone to spend after using a rep for that purpose. (Timber from Trish McEvoy did a great job and was pleasantly not pushy to get me to buy more than I wanted/needed under the circumstances.) It is pretty unfair of BlueMercury to both me AND the Trish McEvoy people--I paid double what I'd been expecting and they sold less than they'd normally expect during a makeover. Bottom line: Do NOT rely on them if you need makeup done. read more

In part to offer a corrective to other reviews: it was very busy at this location, so the management may want to put another person on for Saturdays (I went there today). I noticed a sense of entitlement among some of the customers, which the staff dealt with as best as they could. (I worked at a store on Bethesda Row, and the entitlement was specific to any store, just the part of town.) I had a facial, given by Soohee. I'll be coming back, because for a basic facial it was very complete (yes, oxygen blast! loved that). She takes the time to make sure you're comfortable, and asks questions to be sure you get what you want. The hand and arm massage was a total bonus. An extra bonus--no hard sell, like at Red Door. She told me the products she used, but didn't push to make a sale. One star off had nothing to do with the staff--I would recommend the lights be dimmed a little near the spa service rooms, so it's a little less startling when you leave, after being in a dimmed room. Also, perhaps more than two chairs in the seating area would be nice (although a staff person brought me a chair--which shows they notice the details). So I'll be back again. read more

I normally don't write reviews. But I think the service in general has gone completely down the toilet in the store. I was not greeted when I Entered the store. I found the product that I wanted and was ready to purchase,when I had to get the attention of a sales person. She did not greet me with a smile or any positive body language. Simply asked if I was ready and then proceeded to grab a receipt for another customer and walk away with a curt " follow me " Whereupon I was presented with her back walking away from me. I decided at that moment that I would be happy to spend my money elsewhere and told them I would purchase it elsewhere and walked out of the store. I walked down the street and spent four times as much in another store that treated me with an experience that was pleasant and helpful. I don't think I'll ever go to Blue Mercury again. read more

After having a lousy experience at the Bethesda Lane Blue Mercury last night and knowing I wanted to leave a Yelp review, I read the other reviews and no surprise, there is a common theme: poor customer service. Not Shannon. I adore Shannon -- she sets the bar and should train everyone. Angela does a great wax job -- I'm a big fan. Alex at the BM in Wildwood is my makeup GURU. But last night was so unpleasant that I will no longer shop in the Bethesda Lane location (sorry, Shannon). I went in around 745p (post gym, pre salad), looking for a dusty rose lip liner. Now you, Yelp readers, know more about what I wanted to purchase than either of the BM employees. Because no one asked. Or even greeted me. There were two BM employees and one customer who was checking out. And me. The one gentleman finally asked me (curtly) "if I was ready to check out." Um nope, but I was ready to have the testers cleaned, so that I could try on, evaluate, and then maybe drop close to $50 on a lipstick and liner. As I was trying on and considering, he gathered up the promo materials he was replacing and told the other employee that he was going...somewhere. She (the only employee in the store) did not look up from the ipad she was studying closely, to assist me (the only customer In. The. Store.) I took one more lap around the store to see if perhaps I could find (on my own) the dusty rose liner that I came in for and then realized that I was completely irritated and was no longer interested in buying said liner (or lipstick); nor was I interested in giving that location any future business. Shame on you BM, employees, trainers and corporate. You need to do SO much better. read more

I went to the Bethesda Row store about two weeks ago and wanted to say GREAT JOB to the ladies there! I basically ran in there like a crazy person, asked the 3 sales person that greeted me "I just want a tinted chapstick with SPF" and she got me EXACTLY what I wanted, the first time! I didn't have a brand preference or anything, and she suggested a super popular choice, and I just tried it and love it! Please tell the ladies at that store to keep up the great work! read more

I went to this store on a slow Sunday and the employees were fun and pleasant, however, they were not knowledgeable. They were out of stock of the item I wanted but instead of telling me THEIR policy on shipping it to you from another store, they called around to places where I would have to pick it up myself. I just had my first brazilian wax of my life the other day at blue mercury. I had been hesitant to do this because I was afraid of how much it might hurt. Jaclyn took great care of me. She was very polite and professional, but also really nice. She talked to me the whole time so I wouldn't stress about the pain and gave me suggestions to make it hurt less. She used a warm wax that didn't require strips and when she pulled it off she did it very fast so it only hurt for a second. At the end she did use strips to make sure she got any stray hairs. I am very pleased with the results. In the future I will definitely go to Jaclyn for all my waxing needs! read more

I was in the store to purchase some shampoo the other day. It just so happens that there was another women standing by me who was planning to do the same. She asked if there were any samples that she could have to try before making a purchase of a shampoo in a larger container. She was told no. i thought that was unusual. i made my selection and went to purchase. At the counter I asked for some samples, any kind, and how interesting it was to me that i received samples of the shampoo that the other customer had wanted. Debated writing this one but, as it turns out, I walked by BlueMercury the other day and all I could think of is how I won't go back. Scheduled a facial as I had a gift card to use--walked early for my 10:30 facial, wasn't greeted until, eventually, someone noticed my standing there and ushered me into the "waiting room" which was, in effect a DIRTY, dusty and box-laden storage room. Two girls, who were not getting services but "waiting for their friend" were in the only two chairs available. I then was ushered BACK out to the showroom where i was supposed to "fill out forms" and was not taken to my room for service until FIFTEEN minutes after the start time. 20 minutes after the original time, my facial began. Sheets used on the table were perhaps laundered but stained with products. Seriously? Who's relaxed yet? The aesthetician was pleasant and she did use lovely products, fragrant exfoliator, etc. She did a fine job but, at once point, rubbed my neck and shoulders for about 3 minutes and then later, LEFT FOR !10 minutes! in the middle of the facial to "let me relax".......after she came back, she "massaged" my hands and arms for about a minute each and then wrapped up. I can lie in a cold, over airconditioned room at home. How disappointing and while I appreciated the gift card from my lovely friend, I am SO glad I didn't pay for the facial. Won't go back and owner should know that they can't continue to advertise relaxing services when this place can't offer a smile when you walk through the door. Disappointed mom! Awful treatment of customers, and no indication anywhere that it was an appointment store. Sephora is much nicer, and more customer friendly. I hope Sephora opens a location in Bethesda. Had an extremely poor experience with Seraphine (a name I'm only getting from the receipt, as she never actually introduced herself). Went in for eyebrow shaping, and came out with the middle entirely uneven and with a couple layers of skin missing below my outer brows. It hurt like crazy, and left me with two huge scabs! I'll definitely be selecting a different technician, if not location, in the future. read more

I've been seeing Jaclyn for waxing and the (very) occasional facial for years. She's fantastic - full of energy, highly skilled, knowledgeable and very clean. My appointments always seem too short and I walk out both looking good and feeling like a million bucks. She's never tried to upsell me, but has great product recommendations when I ask - and I do ask, because I trust her. I'm not made of money, but she's worth every penny. read more

This is a review for the store itself. The selection is broad and high-end, with a great choice of luxury skincare, haircare, and cosmetics. However, the customer service usually leaves something to be desired. Asking for a sample shouldn't be met with a literal grimace - is it absurd that I might want to try a product before buying it? I was on the hunt for a good esthetician and was referred to Georgia by a good friend of mine. Georgia was absolutely amazing! She was friendly, easy to talk to, super sweet and most importantly QUICK! I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to my Brazilian waxes because I HATE having strays left behind. Terrible employees. I wish I had gotten their names, truly. I walked in and was greeted, but when I asked if there were any promotions happening I was curtly told "no" and was the looked at like I was crazy (Please note, the brands individually do regular promotions at BlueMercury and many of them are quite good!). I asked if they had La Mer in store, and she motioned vaguely in the other direction and said "it's at the front". After she put a few things back on shelves, she proceeded to put on eyeliner in the large mirror about 4 feet away from me. After her boss came out, she stood in their register area for a bit and asked if I needed anything....in a way that would suggest it was 15 minutes till closing and I should leave. With 8-9 people in the store, she turned off half the lights and the music 5 minutes before closing. Her boss came out and turned the lights and music back on. He then asked if I needed help and I asked for a certain size of the Creme de La Mer. They didn't have it. I left empty-handed. read more

Jaclyn, the aesthetician, was very friendly and sweet (and didn't mess things up), but seemed WAY too rushed. Allie, who was my make up artist today, is truly an Artist with a capital A. I scheduled an appointment for a make up trial before an upcoming photography session. I didn't know what I wanted- I said I just want to look like an enhanced version of myself. My skin looked flawless, the colors she chose for my eyes were just smashing, and she gave me a smoky eye without making me look vampy. She enhanced my lips without making them look overdone. She did a magnificent job, and I would schedule an appointment with her again any day of the week. I'm so glad I will get to see her again right before my actual photo shoot for my make up. Extremely dissapointed in this place. I booked an appointment for prom, a day that is supposed to be very special and stress free. Well it wasn't at all. When I initially made my appointment I made it very clear that I wanted to be with someone from the general area so that they would be able to use every counter. I was very clear that I wanted that, and not a specific person from one counter. I then called the store a bit closer to my appointment date to confirm that and wanted to make sure that they apply false lashes. I was told that they have a full strip in store which they can apply or if we bring our own, individual ones or not they can put those on for us. (Was not told it was at an extra cost) So once i got there on the day of my appointment, i was told that I was going to be with an artist from Chanel. Not only was this a specific counter, but this was not even one of the counters I wanted to use. I asked again if there was any way I could have one of the general people. The lady told me he was already with someone else and pointed him out. I saw he was doing another girls make up who came in a few minutes before me. I want to know why you would book multiple people for the same time slot if you don't have enough artists for it!!? Also if i specifically asked for a general artist not specific then why would you give him away to the other client instead. This was already a bad sign and I should've just walked out then. The lady started doing my make up and even though I said I didn't like certain things she continued to do it basically saying she knew better. She applied blush after I told her I don't want any. Wouldn't apply more concealer to areas that obviously needed more. At the end I said I wanted the fake lashes. She questioned me multiple times saying the mascara was enough. Finally she went to check and said that they can only do a strip because individual takes too long. She also said it cost an extra 10 or 15. Overall very disappointing experience, ended up paying and walking out crying ruining my make up even more. Obviously not managed very well and not organized. read more

this review is loooooong overdue. I've been going to Jacky since last year for my brazilian waxes and she's a joy to be around. My first time going to her was my first time ever getting a wax down there and she understood my uneasiness. But she talked to me and cracked jokes to help me loosen up and take my mind off the pain (yes it did hurt). long story short i ended up getting only a bikini because she ran out of time (it was my fault not hers, i was scared lol) but she said that if i liked it i could come back and she would finish it. Well i did and i went back expecting to pay the rest of the money for it (i was only charged for a bikini) but she just waived the fee which was really nice. every time i see her its like seeing an old friend and catching up on good times. she's such a character, always laughing and being very personal which i like because hey, if you're going to wax down there might as well be personal. but through all of that she's very informative, letting you know why she uses what she uses ( she uses hard wax that sticks to the hair, not the skin which makes for a more comfortable experience) what to do after waxing down there to help with reducing irritation and bumps. She's great! i live very far from this location but i am never disappointed when i see her so the commute is well worth it. Loyal and happy client here! if you do go to her make sure you book well in advanced because she's gets booked fast. read more
