This is happily not a typical experience in any other Bluemercury. I happened to be in the area, and as I love love love Bluemercury, I went in. Then I remembered why I generally avoid this one! Unpleasant, unhelpful, zero eye contact salespeople - come on now, makeup is supposed to be fun, a nice distraction, an easy sell. But not this location. Three salespeople, one on her phone, one avoided eye contact; and the one that 'had' to interact with *the only customer in the store* (!) couldn't have been less courteous, friendly, or helpful on any level. Her staff was embarrassed by her behavior, and they seemed mortified, but not surprised by how rude she treated her customers. My daughter has been there 4 times and has had the worst treatment every time. She has been forced to spend $150 on products despite booking a paid makeup application session today she has been totally ignored when trying to return an item and 2 previous visits being ignored when trying to buy something. I find it despicable that these women would treat teens this way. This seems a theme across the NS though / that sale assistants assume rich mummies are paying and so they are allowed to offer less of a service or maybe they assume these teens have no money and not worth their time because we all know how pushy the sales tactics are in blue mercury across every site. I imagine they must work on commission; they push products and keep bringing out new "must haves" even when you say you are not interested. I'm a big Blue Mercury fan. Between their selection and product knowledge, they are my go to for my skin care needs. With the way things are going, I decided to reorder my favorite products online and try something new. The more I researched, I figured out one of the items I purchased wouldn't be good for my skin type. I drove to a location I typically don't visit (30mins away) to make my return. Right away, I was told "I'm alone you need to wait". Not a problem. I walked in with my son, and as we know, little boys aren't very patient. It was finally our turn to make a return. The woman made a big stink about it "online items have to be called it, we will be on the phone for 20mins just on hold- you could have done this yourself at home...". I was basically speechless. I explained that on my receipt it clearly stated that I can either mail it in or return to the store. Since this was an expensive item, I preferred to just return into the store. She basically rolled her eyes at me and said, "we can do it, but it's going to take a long time - I'm going to take the next person in line and then I'll get back to you...". I was blown away- I patiently waited for my turn, why do I need to continue waiting for her to help someone else..?! Well, then it was finally my turn. She walked over to the phone continuing to make a big stink over how online and in-store are considered two different entities and in the future I should just call the store to place my order. As soon as she made the phone call, someone answered and my return was done within seconds. Not sure why she was being so dramatic, nor ruined my experience. I guess this is why people shop online, to avoid such things from happening. I felt like I was inconveniencing her. read more

Scheduled a facial there. It was packed busy full of people getting makeup applied, no one to point me where to go. I found my way to a sign in the back that indicated that's where I was supposed to go for the facial. The facial was so-so, just too much pushing of product throughout and making you feel guilty, like at the dentist's office for not flossing, when you do! She left the room for 10 minutes (after putting something over my mouth - it was like being suffocated and left in the backroom by having your mouth covered and left half naked on a table in an unsecured area!) She was sweet but overall the experience was mediocre at best and she seemed inexperienced. I wasn't expecting the best facial, but thought the location would be convenient at least and I was supporting a local business. But after the so-so facial, I wanted to pay and just leave. Apparently, they eliminated a formal checkout counter, WTF?!? This in practice means you have to guess who might work there out of the 10 people wearing black and all with their backs turned and don't want to help you as you have to interrupt them from their sales with other customers. That's just stupid, right? What if I was shopping and just wanted one specific product? Sometimes you don't want to talk to the salespeople. You have no choice but to stand around and hope someone will take pity on you. (Or leave with a free facial, they wouldn't have noticed!) Why are you making me work to give you money? No receipt of any kind was offered, so who knows what she actually charged my card. Who runs a business this way? Go elsewhere and save your money, time, and the aggravation. read more

I dare you to try to buy just one thing here. I attempted to purchase just a new eyeliner. The girls here weren't even pushy but I just couldn't resist all the gorgeous eyeshadow colors staring me in the face. I'm the type of person who likes to get my makeup all at once and thanks to Pam I left with a new eyeliner AND eyeshadows,foundation and a lipstick. And I love it all. Pam spent a ton of time with me picking out the right colors and honestly told me when she thought we could find something better. She also loaded me up with tons of samples for skin care products that I can't wait to try. When I lived in the city I typically bought my makeup at department stores but I loved having one makeup artist helping me that had direct access to so many different & amazing brands (Nars, Laura mercies to name a few). My wife was there yesterday. She went there because their web site offered a large selection and she wanted more information about the lines they carried. Person at the counter was not friendly never greeted her. She was with a customer so my wife was patient about it. After 15 minutes. She was confused as to why the clerk wasn't knowledgeable about the products they posted on line but were directing her away from her questions and products. Phone rang and she excused herself. Ann Diebel at the Highland Park location is one of the reasons we go back to Bluemercury. Upon entering the store, Ann is always warm, and inviting. She remembers names, asks if we need direction to find a product. If either my husband or I have a problem or concern, She genuinely listens as a friend and offers advice and suggestions for products to use. She gave us samples to see if they work...she us usually spot on. I have acne rosacea and Natura Bissé products have really helped. To tame summertime thin hair 'frizzies', the Oribe gold line is wonderful. Highly recommend Highland Park location and ask for Ann. read more

The staff at the Highland Park, IL store are rude, condescending, arrogant and mean for no reason except poor hiring. I have not experienced any good service here for years. Avoid at all costs. The Lake Forest, IL store has fantastic service which is top notch with associates who care and are genuinely nice and courteous irrespective of how much you spend. The Highland Park location really should be closed due to abysmal customer service, and rude and incompetent staff. Do not shop there - go to the Lake Forest store where you will not be disappointed. Fantastic service and warm and friendly customer associates. Maybe open a location in Deerfield or Libertyville and close the Highland Park location. After an awesome visit today I will definitely come back. I came to find a concealer for my dry skin, and was helped immediately by a genuinely nice and down to earth sales associate. She took a lot of time to make sure it fit my skin, sat me down and applied it, and made sure I liked it. When I expressed an interest in other products, she gave me a lot of samples to take away and try. NO pressure whatsoever to buy anything which I appreciate so much, especially on the North Shore. Everything here is high quality and the layout of the store is way easier to navigate than a huge department store. I will definitely be back! read more

I had a recent experience at Bluemercury that was very disappointing, and upon reading the negative reviews here, I can only surmise that this store has a staffing problem. I live a few towns away and made a specific trip to this location to replace a product that to be replaced; I did not have the option of coming back on another day to shop as I'm going out of town for a business trip. If I knew where else to purchase this item, I would have gone elsewhere. I showed up mid-afternoon and the only 2 sales clerks were doing the makeup of two teenagers who were prepping for a photoshoot. I must have waited at least 30 minutes before one of them could finish and ring me up. There was another lady and her elderly mother waiting ahead of me and they gave up and left. It's beyond me why neither of the clerks could have taken a break and let me purchase what I needed in a timely manner. All the clerks could do was tell us how sorry they were repeatedly. And, why the mother of one of the teenagers present didn't say to the clerks that it was okay to do something like this is beyond me. I am not sure that these two teenagers even bought any products. Essentially, the clerks were also recommended that if you wanted to purchase something, you should make an appointment. I probably will not shop in this location again due to poor customer service; either I will shop at Bluemercury online or I'll find other stores that carry the lines I prefer. read more

I am really impressed with Blue Mercury! I love the store and the products they carry. They don't do any hard selling and are very helpful and very nice to customers. I recently purchased a product that I thought was a regular facial moisturizer.It turned out that it was a toner. I called the store to ask about it and they were most willing to take the product back because I purchased this item in error. I thought that was great customer service. I have been to a previous Bluemercury store and waited to be helped because there were only 1 or 2 staff members at the Oakbrook, IL store. This particular store (in my opinion) is quite busy as it is inside Macy's; 3 times I have been there and I always wait (which is fine). They have always been nice and helpful. I was extremely disappointed with 3 staff members at this location (Highland Park, IL). I went at about 615pm and 3 people pretty much ignored me. If it was not for me asking what time they closed, no one would have said anything to me. No one greeted me and asked if they can help me. I was ready to buy Nars products as I was Christmas shopping for my niece and she loves make-up. I am aware of there many sample give-aways (which is why I love this place). I wanted to know what gift packages they had and what promotions they were offering-but I just left. I was extremely uncomfortable browsing without anyone acknowledging me. read more

Never going back here. Horrible service with expired / old product on the shelf. I came in to ask about a specific product and the associate standing there lied - LIED about the product being new which is why she didnt know it was there. Lets note that this is a very old product that they have carried since opening. After the lie....she stated that it was a new shipment. Once I told her the product was old and its been redesigned and reformulated, she lied again that this was all new shipment. Picked up the box and showed here this is over 12 months old (and the box was very very filthy). I let her and the other associate know exactly what I was looking for. They didnt offer to help find it, go online and order it, call another store...nothing. Just shrugged their shoulders and i walked out the door. Here is the best part - I have contacted customer service THREE TIMES...and each reply is, oh sorry someone for corporate is handling this. No one has reached out!!!! This isnt just a specific store issue its a company culture issue. So i have purchased what I needed from the product company specifically online. This is why brick and mortar stores are closing because of incredibly poor service. read more

Watch out Nordstrom ... I'd rather purchase my cosmetics here at Blue Mercury! They carry the best brands, have helpful and knowledgable staff, and send me on my way with samples to try at home. I have come back to purchase several of the items I sampled - which is clearly the point and good for growing your business. This place is too good to be true! To begin with, the store is gorgeous with its cozy and comfortable ambience. The skin care and cosmetics lines are beautifully laid out and easy to find and sample. The store has a huge collection of both skin care and cosmetics as well as candles, hand soaps and various other luscious items. The best thing about this Blue Mercury is by far the staff. The manager Brooke is approachable and easy going and her demeanor is felt through out the store. Brooke and her staff know their business but have no interest in forcing any sales. I love that. In the meantime their advice and help has really been a blessing for the make up I use and the new skin care i am using. She knows her products as well as she does her customers. I was in Blue Mercury store in Highland Park, Illinois last week and had such a fantastic experience that I just had to write about it. I sat down with the best make up artist. Her name was Wendy. She was so fun and was so knowledgeable. First we discussed what I use on my skin. She told me all about this M-61 brand that your company makes. This was my first time here, and I had never heard of many of the brands you carry. She took the time to tell me about some of them. She told me about the ones that are exclusive. Those were the ones I bought. She made me samples too so I could try before I buy which was so nice. She then did my make up and it was flawless. She introduced me to the woman from the spa, Natasha, and I made an appointment for next week for a facial. I'm so looking forward to it.
