Friendly staff, and a great selection of cosmetics and bath items. I found an amazing pomegranate-scented body lotion that smelled wonderful! There are various sampler kits that could be great as gifts or for gift exchange. The items can be kept better or be replenished - some of the aisles had spilt makeup, and the stations could be cleaned up. Checkout was a breeze. I used to love this location. After today, not anymore. Spent about an hour and $400 today. Everyone was very helpful. Here's where they lost me, the BAG TAX. Yes, it's not Ulta's policy, it's Northbrook's. I won't get into it, but I think the tax is just another money grab and out of principle, never purchase a bag. Usually retailers ask if you want to purchase a bag. I wasn't asked today. I assumed that meant Ulta was covering the bag. Since we chose an email receipt, we weren't aware of the charge until we got home. I called the store to mention the associate didn't ask if we wanted to purchase a bag. Spoke with a manager who kind of, but not really apologize for the charge which irritated me more. Anyway, this is why people shop online... read more

I normally LOVE this store because it's quieter than other stores, it's well stocked, and the employees are always so nice & helpful. However, I just spent over $400 at this store, and I was given a bag and charged for the $0.10 Northbrook bag tax without even being asked. I assumed since I wasn't asked to purchase a bag that Ulta covered the bag tax. I'm just going to throw away this bag, which is a total waste, when I had my own bag with me that I would've used had I been asked if I was ok with purchasing a bag. The cashiers should ALWAYS ask if the customer is ok with purchasing a bag when the bag costs extra. read more

I've been doing pick-up orders here after placing them online and the process is always a breeze. They're so quick and do a great job.

I hate how you have to stand in a line when you have to pick up something. Then the people take forever to leave and your waiting and waiting in line. If you have something to pick up I feel like you shouldn't have to wait in a line. There's only one person at the register which is ridiculous because it takes so long to purchase something. If there were multiple people checking people out it wouldn't take so long in a line. There are people working here and they could ring people up instead of having one person to ring people up. If you call ahead you shouldn't wait in a line. They have a to go stand that people get their order and pay at. I was waiting in a line where this mother took forever to order his stuff or that she was ordering something. I hate waiting in lines. I do like coming here to purchase makeup. read more

Well I must tell all, I finally found a stylist that not only started by explaining the best shampoo for my type of hair to buy BUT also explained that the haircut was not a good cut for my Hair type. Threasa helped me w/a fabulous shampoo and conditioner that my hair is not falling out as I use this product (CURL-SMITH) not cheap but good, then Threasa cut my hair and I absolutely love it. The 1st cut I haven't had too fix w/a snip here or snip there in a long time. I didn't even have too explain what I wanted, she told me. She cut my hair and two weeks later my hair feel healthy, thicker and styles on it own because of a perfect cut for my hair. Thx Threasa Ulta has one fabulous stylist and a knowledgeable one. Went there today to try to match a discontinued lipstick. 3 employees chatting near the door. Finally found someone to ask. Her answer: just put different colors on your hand and see what matches! Wow. Great customer service. Not sure why they have 4 employees doing nothing. 2 women getting makeup done by others. And me! I hope Ulta corporate reads this and train employees about customer service. Because these 4 had no clue. read more

I have never had a more unpleasant Ulta experience. Please do your company a favor and take Carly off the registers. She should NOT be helping customers. HORRIBLE attitude, rude for no reason. Almost asked her if she was okay or having a bad day. I am a manager In a retail store and I would never hire someone that talked to customers so short and rude the way she was. Cutting me off mid sentence. It wasn't busy. Maybe she was having a bad day or maybe it's just who she is. But if this is everyday for her maybe she shouldn't be in a customer facing position. Experience was extremely uncomfortable and off putting. Rude as hell. Maybe try putting the friendly younger girls on the sales floor on the registers instead. Will never return to this Ulta again. The ultimate one stop shop for all your beauty needs. I love that the staff is so friendly and willingness to help. But they don't crowd your space if you just want to look. When you are ready for help or suggestions there always seems to be plenty of staff available to help out. I love the way the store is organized from economical beauty to a kiosk of Mac Product line to other high end lines that are available. In addition to their assistance, they have the benefit brow beauty bar. Which is great as you can schedule an eye brow wax right there upon your visit. As long as you don't mind people shopping around you vs a private room at a typical salon or spa. The space is organized, well lit & clean. They have profession line shampoos and everything in between. If you're in the need for something for a special occasion or even everyday. The sales ladies can help you out. And I also love there a re more "safety product lines available as well. Such as Cover FX and others that are Vegan, Phalate & Anti cruelty free. Enjoy your shopping experience there. This review is actually for the benefit counter. I couldn't find a separate Yelp posting for them. This location has not had a brow artist at the benefit counter for months so when I came in today I was excited to see someone working there. I made an appointment with one of the Ulta salesgirls for about 15-20 min past the current time. I waited next to the benefit counter with my baby in an infant carrier and was never acknowledged by the girl working there. She has been doing someone's brows when I first came in and and for 15 minutes past my appointment time she was still working on the same person. Once she finally finished this woman's brows she proceeded to help her at the Mac counter again ignoring me. Normally I really like this location and all the employees but I am highly upset at the way I was treated at the benefit counter. I even told them when I made the appointment that it was time sensitive for me. I would not recommend anyone to go and get their brows done here if this is an indication on how they will be treated. I wound up leaving without getting my brows done and was still not acknowledged by anyone. This is after I spent $200 in the store today alone before any services. read more

I went into Ulta to look at Clinique's Beyond Perfecting Foundation, thinking I needed extra coverage to for redness. I was trying several different shades on my hand, when the Clinique Consultant, Chevon, came up behind me and offered an opinion on color choices. She then helped me to see that I didn't really need extra coverage, I needed a different product. We chatted while she helped me find the proper product and I felt beautiful after I left the store. I literally have never left a Yelp review in my life, but this feels necessary. This is a review specifically for the stylist Threasa at the Northbrook location. I have had very positive experiences with other Ulta stylists in the past. I have pretty simple and easy to cut hair, so I didn't come in for anything fancy. However, when I got to Ulta, Threasa quickly washed my hair (did not condition it like they always do), and then did a quick chop to take off 4 inches, which literally took 5 minutes (no exaggeration). She didn't take any time to make sure it was even or straight (which is was neither). Then she blew my hair halfway dry with cold air, essentially just making it poofy and frizzy and staticky. She tried doing some weird curling thing with her flat iron, which I did not ask for and did not look good at all. I could've gotten a better cut at a SuperCuts or something for under $20. This was $55 before tip. I never get upset if a haircut ends up being a little shorter than I wanted or anything like that, but this looked terrible. Obviously it was way too awkward to say anything, but I did call the store later and they issued me a refund. I haven't been upset by a haircut since my mom decided a mushroom cut sounded like a cute idea when I was 5 years old at Kid Snips (I'm 29 now). Don't go to Threasa. She doesn't take the time, put in the effort, or even pretend to care. Very disappointing. read more

The other day I was at Ulta and an ulta associate came up to me asking if I was looking for anything and if I needed help. Her name was Tylyne and she was the sweetest, professional, and caring sales associate I have ever came across. I needed to get makeup for a party and she helped me find the perfect makeup products that make my skin glow and achieve the dewy look. Due to her bubbly and caring personality, she was so helpful to the point where I wanna come back because she had excellent recommendations for me and she is a excellent representation of ulta. I have gone to Ulta for my hair for a while and I love the woman who does my hair but as I checked out to pay last Sat. the woman at the desk asked if I wanted to us my rewards. I assumed I had gathered points for my previous appts. I said sure. She told me to just fill in my name on the pad. I did and she said it would be $27 instead of $40. I put down my $50 bill and she said I just need your last 4 numbers of your social security. I did and she said thank you. I said here's my money, and she replied I don't need it, you just opened up a credit card here. I was MAD. I told her I didn't want a credit card. She said just call and cancel it. I was shocked! HOW DARE she trick people into a credit card. I called Mastercard to cancel and they told me this has happened before. SHAME on Ulta for doing this to people!!! I even called the company and was told someone would call me back. That was 6 days ago. I also emailed them and Ulta NEVER got back to me. BEWARE when you go to an Ulta store. DON'T believe them when they say you get a reward!! I'll start shopping at Sephora or Walgreens or Nordstroms before I go there!!!!! read more
