The Macy's at Hawthorn Mall is one of my favorite stores. I love going to Macy's Backstage. I can always find something I want there. In this trip they had all of their Christmas merchandise out. I found Christmas hand towels. Not only were the towels cute but I felt good knowing that I was supporting a woman owned business. read more

My partner and I walked into the Vernon Hills Macy's today to purchase I items at the Clinique counter. There were two women standing in what I assumed was boredom. I walked up, they didn't ask if they could assist therefore, I asked them, May I purchase an item? The one woman walked away and the other one proceeded to assist by reluctantly walking behind the counter. The exchange couldn't go fast enough! I will never walk into that Macys store again! I understand why there were literally three customers in that store. The worse customer service ever. I'll be ordering online directly from Clinique in the future. Moreover, I've closed my Macy's credit card. Oh by the way, she wanted me to know that she's including a"sample" with my purchase. I was not impressed considering, the sample was so tiny I had no idea what it was and tossed it out. Finally, the customers are ALWAYS presented with a sample after purchase. She didn't do me any favors, she did her job; not that great to say the least. read more

I called the Macys women's shoe department, ahead of time, to verify the specific dress shoe (from the Macys website) was physically in the store. Noone answered the phone so I thought it must be really busy. Made a trip to the store. This is the first time, in a long time, that I have gone to the ladies shoe department. When I arrived, the ladies shoe department was void of customers and no sales person for the area. Waited for about 15+ minutes for someone to assist me. It was only when I called the store (from in front of the check out register) that someone (he) came out from the back to answer the phone. I could not locate the shoe I saw on the website and was looking for assistance. Shoe was not on display but could be ordered from the website. I wasn't sure what size shoe I was and asked to be measured. Instead of the employee assisting me, with the effort he handed me the shoe measuring apparatus which implied that I should do it myself. When I directly asked for his help, he was more accomodating. Very poor customer service and not knowledgeable about the products in the department. read more

Placed an order for a suit that was onsale online. the pants supposedly were delivered. the picture was not even my Apt. i called and was told it was delivered because the have a picture. I explained it is not my Apt in the picture. i was told not replacement, no refund and that my account is now flagged for no online business. so I am now paying for half a suit. i will never do business with Macy's again and I suggest anyone think twice. this is their version of customer service. Really disappointed in what has become of Macy's. The quality of items, selection, and customer services is horrendous. I went to Macy's to return something I received as a gift. I did not have a receipt, and I was prepared that I would get a a lower return amount than what was on the tag - $25.00 (usually if there is a clearance price, you get that at most retailers). The service representative looks at me and states "you will get $2.89 back" and there is a signature (but no written information above where the signature is. I look up at her screen and I see $12.89, so I assume I just misheard what she said and signed. She hands me the $2.89. I say to her - wasn't it $12.89? She then said, yes, but a promotional code was used for the purchase, so that amount was taken back. I walked away confused as I was just trying to do this on my lunch break. Then I thought about it - I didn't have a receipt, so how could they verify how this was paid for? Additionally, had she explained to me how she got to the $2.89 instead of just saying "you will receive $2.89 back" and the screen had provided that information, I would have been able to see that before signing. I feel so scammed right now, but is it even worth going in? They will probably just say I signed for it. What is even more disappointing is that my husband was just saying that he would take the money and use it towards some new shirts he was thinking of getting there - at this point I don't even want to put any money back into that place. Lastly, I was already in there so I went to look at the housewares because I needed some new mixing bowls. The boxes were banged up, displays were showing some wear, and there were NO PRICES on anything, just sale advertisements. Anything I was remotely interested in I had to look up on my phone to see how much it would cost (but then I also found it cheaper at another retailer by doing that). Definitely putting my money where my mouth is and not shopping here. Additionally, I will tell my in-laws not to buy me gifts from there (I hate telling people where to shop, but this experience was just lousy). read more

I revisited this store and discover a lot of changes recently, good for them as brick and mortar stores are now under great competition from online. But few people shop the weekdays, so it is still look empty, little bit sad sometimes. I am so disgusted with Macy's and their customer service department. I bought a coach purse and wallet in Las Vegas. They shipped it to me as I live in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. I received the bag and wallet in a plastic Macy's bag in a box, no wrapping no cloth bag just thrown in it was over $200. When I called customer service they couldn't even find my order and I asked if I didn't have to pay for it since they can't find it. It was on my charge so I know that I do have to pay for it. I called again and Customer Service couldn't find it And then asked me if I bought it in the store and I replied yes. She told me that she could not help me as I bought it in the store. I asked if she was Customer Service and she said yes. I asked her why she couldn't help me if she's Customer Service, and there was really no answer. I asked to talk to her supervisor and after being on hold twice, she told me it would be 20 minutes for the supervisor and I replied that I could not wait and hung up. I took the person wallet back to Macy's where I was informed that the cloth bag is no longer that coach does, but the gentleman who sold it to me in Las Vegas told me he would give me one. They could care less whether I returned it or kept it the rep from coach happen to be there and she said that they no longer provide bags I would have to pay five dollars. It's not the five dollars. It is the way they treated me and and the product that I was buying so I returned the entire purchase. read more

As Macy as any other. Newer styled layout and "younger" in age than other nearby locations. I'm talking about the building aesthetics. The Men's and Ladies departments have an easy flow with a large selection. Their layouts and variety reminds me of a Nordstrom setup. The Men's department here is more thought out than other locations. More mannequins donning attire and placed with thought. There is a feeling of upscale, like Nordstrom or Bloomys. Children's is found in the basement. It seems to be a trend with Macy's. Maybe a security factor which makes sense. Their children's department selections could have more variety. Perhaps this area has lesser families with small children or their clothing buyers don't care about them. I have noticed other Macy's locations following suit. The girls departments have variety, sale, etc and there is plenty of selection. However, the boys area has an abundance of sports. Ugh. I visited recently to buy gifts for a 4 year old nephew. The toddler selection was so small. I was hoping to find a casual outfit or two. Dress shirts/slacks combo with a tie or bow tie. Anything really, cords, slacks, khakis, something!? There was more sports attire and clearance than anything decent. Two expensive (no sale price) name brands and stuff priced $35-50+ (This is where Carson Pirie Scott excelled. But, they are a long gone chain.) I should have just gone to a children's shop or Target. Ended up spending more dinero then I'd planned and this kid may only wear this gear for six months.. Back to their store layout. Since I had to take the escalators back to the first floor to exit, there was no way to avoid the marketing in the Men's department drawing me to stylish dress shirts (I probably didn't need) but ended up purchasing anyway. Strange how I ended up with bags in hand here at this location when I find it easy to leave without purchase from the Old Orchard location. Some reviews mention lack of staff. At the time of my visit in late August there were enough around the store but most were found working two to three areas. Or helicoptering between departments. Macy's is truly one of a kind. You can always find anything home related in one trip. The products are usually of a high quality, so you don't need to worry that you're getting some fake product on Amazon. Even if you're not buying anything, just browsing around Macy's is fun, especially if you're with a good friend or significant other. Plus there's food right in the same building so you could make a day trip out of it. Get in some good exercise while shopping, and eat to recover your energy. You can get all you need in one place. Very loyalty return policy. Stuff is friendly and helpful especially on customer service but some cashiers are rude. A lot of discounts and sales. I love the cosmetic department, recently I bought the parfume Dior's J'adore,and I very satisfied with this product. Squeeze several drops into your bath and enjoy the aroma of delicate scent. You can feel the silkiness on your skin and emerge feeling beautifully cleansed and embraced with the fragrance of J'adore. But one time I had a not so friendly cashier, and why I give them 4 out of 5, but all in all this Macy's is a great place to have a fun day shopping. read more

Grew up coming to this mall, and was so disappointed to return recently (TWICE) after maybe 4-5 years of being away. The whole mall seems empty or filled with very cheap stores. Macy's seemed to be a better experience when I first walked in but should have known better. First, I purchased a formal gown for a black tie wedding up in Wisconsin. When I arrived at the venue, I found that the desk staff member had not removed the security tag from the dress and I was nowhere near a store that could remove it. I was stranded after spending high $$ for a dress and then was morbidly embarrassed to wear it with the tag. They made me feel like a thief as I did not have other options to wear. Then, I returned this week needing running shoes. The main guy working was an absolute gem working his butt off as the store does not appropriately staff their departments (even during Friends & Family). Maybe 20 people trying to buy shoes and he was the only one working. Well, not true. There was someone staffing the finish line desk but would not get off his phone for 5 minutes to help someone. Miguel at the Finish Line desk clearly does not value his job, the store, or the customers shopping. The other poor guy handled it so well to the best of his abilities. Will not be back to this store and will honestly try to avoid the mall in general. read more

I was basically accused of stealing a purse I brought in with a receipt for a refund the manager Cindy was so rude.I took the tags off had only been 3 days plastic still on zippers. I have a health condition she laughed when she saw a mask in my bag. made me go all the way home to look for tags. before I left I browsed the purse department she didn't ask if I needed help she was thinking I was to steal a purse. She just watched me.I called to speak to another manager. she said call Cindy had been there 25 years. She gives excellent guest service.. the minute I walked up to the jewelry to get a refun It. She scolded me like a child there's a refund counter. iso Cindy lied to her manager and said that I came in with no receipt this will be the last time that I ever shop at Macy's again..Cindy had to be the rudest most unprofessional manager I have come across in quite some time..I have a lung condition to make me go back home in the heat and look for the tags when I had the receipt 3 days old zippers still had plastic. Discrimination against didabled people.And laugh about my mask in the bag. I was going to turn around and by a $150 cross necklace.Cindy blew that's sale and any other. After shopping at Macy's , previously Marshall Field, I will no longer be a customer at this store. The service has become so poor. I will be closing my store card after having been a customer for over 35 years. Today I went to make a return and the item was 7 days past the 30 day return window., I had the receipt and the tags were still on the item. Because the item had been discounted I was not eligible for the full refund. It was lower by $5. Not a lot but it was my money and they still have it. I spoke with a manager who offered me Macy's money (whatever that is) and I said no thank you. This was all it took for me to make a decision. They lost a long time customer over $5.00. That is truly so sad. Based on these reviews, they need to do better to retain what customers they have. I won't be a part of that however, Not ever again. read more

I agree with most reviewers here this is one of few anchor stores at this mall. It is good to have I hope they stay. Their hours are longer than other anchor at this mall which is nice. Went recently for dress it was picked over and some look so old I can't believe there is not better made fashion but if you have time you might luck out as we did. But I also agree staffing is lately a problem. And then the woman I spoke to wasn't all that friendly but I think she ok. It used to be a given Macy's would have what you looking for. Talk about rude! Yes, I purchased this bath sheet on line for over 30 bucks and yes, it's still in the original packaging and yes, I changed my mind and would like a refund. Well, first off, they didn't want to help me. The chicks in the front of the store wanted me to go downstairs to bedding to make my return even though they had no other customers and I had the receipt. Biatches! Well since she doesn't want to go downstairs... she says, just try and do the return. Whatevers! Didn't even ask me if I wanted a store credit or anything. She just credited my card that was already paid for the month. Now, I have to wait to get my money back. She's smiled at me with saccharine sweetness, "now you'll have money to shop". Terrible customer service. I went in for a return for my daughter's birthday, she received a lot of dresses that will not fit. And the lady in the swim area was not very nice. I asked her if she could help me with a return and she let out a loud sigh and mumbled okay. Then when she saw I had children's clothing, she said you have to go downstairs very rudely and walked away. I have had terrible customer service at this Macy's location multiple times. The other day I stopped by Macy's in Hawthorn to pick up some clothes for my plus sized great aunt. I wanted to see how they fit on a person, even though she isn't my size. As I walked into the fitting room, this elderly lady named either Cheryl or Janice stopped me and said, "You know you are not in the right department." She would not leave until I answered her. After I tried on the clothes, Cheryl forcefully grabbed the clothes away from my hand and said, "I think it's time for you to leave the department." I had not made any disruptions, nor had I done anything to make her kick me out. She then walked over to her coworker to complain about me. Cheryl, if you are reading this, you are a BITCH. I hope you get fired for horrible customer service. In fact, YOU were in the wrong department. You looked at the most about 50 pounds, and I don't see you in the petite department. huh. The lady with the short frizzy curly hair at the Chanel counter is really rude. This was the second encounter with her, and after this experience I am actually really happy the lipgloss I use from here is discontinued, so I can go to a brand with nicer people. I simply asked the Chanel representative if they had my lipgloss (Fatale No. 61) available for purchase. She looked at me and really rudely stated "NO! It's discontinued!" and then turned away instead of trying to help me find another color similar to this one. I'm sorry, but if I am spending over $34 on a freaking lipgloss, I expect quality service. I then proceeded to tell her that I saw it available online and she said "then buy it online!". If this lipgloss was discontinued for years or even months, I would understand the frustration; however, I just purchased this lipgloss less than two months ago at the Northbrook Macy's location. This lady needs to remember that she works in customer service first, then make-up services. I will not be making any purchases from her or this specific Chanel counter again. read more

This store is a lot better than the Carson's on Rand in Mount Prospect. It is relatively small for a Macy's, but the staff is friendlier. When they aren't busy, someone might help you pick something out. I saw one associate in the dress department helping a guy with a gift and the clerks at the register I went to were friendly (Although maybe a little too hard sell on the credit card front.) I went to two registers here. At one, the woman didn't even work for Macy's, but was employed by Sunglasses hut, but they both let me use the coupon for the "friends and family" sale I saw on Yelp, but seemed that be available only for online purchases after I got to the Macy's website. They weren't very busy on this particular weeknight, either. They appeared be cleaning up from the "black Friday" weekend, but at least they had the clothes on racks with wheels, and weren't just haphazardly putting the clothes back out in the floor. Overall, this was a good shopping experience, the only reason it is not one of the top Macy's locations I have visited is the size of the store. read more

Long overdue review of working here from 3 years ago. Terrible place to work at. Provided zero training. Can't believe I was put out on the floor to tailor mens suits with zero training. You were only paid via comissions. Working a full day to only make ~$60 some times. Co-workers would steal your customers and ring them up. Boss was terrible. Bad customer's service. I am not satisfied at all. I went to buy my husband's perfume but I had to wait so long for someone to come and help me. No one was there, so I was just looking some of the colognes, and perfumes with my husband especially the sign said that we better not touch for the protection from COVID 19, and we really wanted to try some samples, but no one showed up for 10 minutes. So we walked around to find someone who can help us. Finally, we found a lady who works there and asked, but she said that we have to go to the other side to look for someone else who works at the men's perfume section. I was so mad but my husband asked her again where we can find someone who can help, but she just told us to walk to the opposite side and look for one. We finally found one who works there after walking this way and that way, but we really didn't feel happy because we already spent like 30 minutes for waiting, and looking for someone just to buy a perfume which I am pretty sure that we deserve better. We bought the perfume anyway because we didn't feel like go to the other places because we were there for so long already. I know I bought it here, but not anymore. I think customers satisfaction is the most important matter!! read more

I am quite frustrated and disgusted with the horrendous service I recently received in their jewelry department. While I normally would have given them 1 star I cannot say that this particular incident is a reflection of all of my interactions with Macy's; although I cannot say there has been anything out of the ordinary to write about either. I recently purchased a Movado watch as a gift. I was informed that I can bring it back whenever and have it re-sized when appropriate. So my wife and I came back over the weekend and had the supervisor on duty (she later identified herself as this) determine how many links she would need to remove and she said it would be finished within 30 minutes. I thought this was odd considering I've seen what needs to be done to re-size a watch and I don't think I have ever seen it take that long. Regardless we hung out for a bit then decided to window shop in the mall. After about 45 minutes we returned and found the individual that was assisting us and she told us that she had not even started re-sizing the watch. I was little irritated at that point but asked how much longer she would need to re-size it and her response was "I don't know". I would have gladly come back at another time/day if she didn't initially tell me it would be completed in 30 minutes. While I understand taking care of customers is important, I obviously had a place in line where my service should have been addressed. Rather than honoring that, she decided that helping new customers was her priority and disregarded taking care of someone that already purchased from them. I didn't raise my voice or act inappropriately in any way but I was definitely frustrated at this point so I asked for a supervisor which she identified herself as. I then asked for the store manager and was provided her name. At that point, she decided to throw in "If you wanted it re-sized you should have done it when you purchased it" as she seeming disapproved of me going above her head. I took our watch and just left. I have since left a voicemail for the GM at their store but have not received a contact back. If I don't, I will just return the watch and buy it elsewhere where I can expect better service. read more

Macys is always great for a good deal. They often have coupons and you'd be foolish to buy anything for full price. Unless you're me! Let me explain myself. I pay full price for cosmetics because this Macys has a MAC counter!! Not every Macys has a MAC and this is a hot commodity. Honestly, I love coming to Macy's, just not the Vernon Hills location. The only reason I ever step foot into this place anymore is to get my MAC fix since all the women that work at that counter are completely friendly and helpful. When I walk into Macy's, I don't expect anything different from any other store. It's not Wal-mart, I don't expect somebody greeting me at the front door, but it would be nice to be acknowledged when I'm trying to ask something of one of the associates. A majority of the associates I have ever encountered have always been rude, annoyed, or impatient. I recently had an encounter where I asked a woman in a different department where the Kid's section was and she answered, "Um, well, did you even look?"In no way was I mean, I said EXCUSE ME, and asked but she seemed annoyed that she had to point me in the right direction. She rolled her eyes and walked away soon after. I went to complain, and the manager didn't say anything. She was on her headphones talking to other associate's the entire time and simply said, "Oh, I'm sorry. That sucks." Really? That sucks? Truly professional. She didn't do anything to solve the problem. And this isn't the only run in... I was in the fitting room once and a disgruntled associate walks out going, "These fucking pigs threw these dresses on the floor." First off, no reason to cuss. Secondly, I worked retail and no matter how frustrated I may have gotten when people did happen to throw their things on the floor, I KNOW better then to make remarks like that in front of customers. Jo in women's coats was fantastic!!!! She offered help and suggested coats to fit my needs. She was the best and I wish she was my personal shopper. The low score is for store cleanliness. The women's dressing room on the 2nd flood by dresses was dirty. The first changing room really needed to have the carpet vacuumed. The mirrors were very smeared. The women's restroom on the 2nd floor was dirty. Soap was only in one of the 3 dispensers. There were no paper towels in the dispenser. The floor had debris and many of the ceiling tiles had water damage. Except for Jo, this is NOT a Macy's of the past. read more

I've been shopping at this store location even when it was Marshall Field's & Co. I know that they would always have great quality items/merchandise. I've purchased clothes for me or my husband, pajamas, purses, sunglasses, housewares items, etc. Two months ago, I found a great wool coat for dressy outings, dates with my husband and any time I want to look 'fancy.' The best part was the original price was $350 & reduced to $99. Wow!!!! Today, I wanted to find scarves to go with my casual & dressy wool coats. The best part? They were on sale. Cha - Ching. This store is very nice and is well stocked with all of the things that any Macy's would have.I believe if I'm correct they have 3 floors and it connects into the Hawthorn mall. I tried my best not to look around excessively.I was on a mission to shop like a man... go in, get what you searched for and get the hell out. This is one of the few times in life that i did this.I looked all over the net for a pressure cooker to help me with my cooking.I looked at first at the more obvious websites..Walmart/ Target and Kmart and noticed that none of them sold them in their stores. I would have had to order online.I don't like to do that with everything ,so i decided to wait till i got back to Cali and then i would go hunt some pressure cookers down.All of a sudden after speaking with my sister she told me to check out Bed Bath and Beyond and Macy's.She said they would have it in their stores.She also told me that she had purchased a good one from Bed and Bath. Well anyway after doing alot of research on which one to get i decided on Fagor.Fagor offers stainless steel and that's the recommended kind to use over Aluminum because of the harmful chemicals that can be released into your food.Macy's was just so having a sale on Fagors for $64..This apparently was a steal since the going price was like $80. I purchased my pressure cooker, had my sister show me how to use it safely and consider myself officially addicted to it! Beans in 15 minutes done and not hard, cooked evenly.Vegetables in less than 7 minutes..My sister said meat doesn't need that long to cook either..IDK, I'm a vegetarian, that's what she said(just take her word for it,she has a P.H.D she knows everything!). Life doesn't seem to get any better than this. You might be wondering why i would give a review on a pressure cooker and not the overall store?Ill just say it's because it's like going to Best buy or Target or Mcdonalds.All chain stores have a certain protocol that they have to keep when it comes to buisness.There isn't too much variation with that of how one store does something as opposed to that of the rest. Ive always found it hard to review those types of places.Ill just say this,Macy's has a 6 month return policy, the store was clean and the staff were friendly.You're in an area where the people have higher incomes so don't go expecting for things to be like they might be across town somewhere.Most people look nice and exercise proper mannerisms when shopping here,ive noticed.
