We came here for brunch one afternoon. First of all, I was starving and I was happy to see that the food came very quick (within 10 mins). I had eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast. Everything tasted good. The toast was so yummy. It was buttery, flavourful and perfectly toasted. It was nice and fluffy in the middle. The only exception is that I wish the breakfast menu had a sweet option. I normally prefer to eat a sweet breakfast over savoury. Overall, it was a great breakfast. read more

There's a reason this hallowed spot in downtown Halifax is such a staple. They mix some Greek plates and Canadiana very well. For a breakfast expect good, hearty grub with generous portions. Eggs benny is excellent...they absolutely know how to cook a soft egg! The Moussaka is superb and flavourful (they seem to have made the portion smaller which is the only, but big, downside to me.) Prices are reasonable. The seating in the booths is a bit small, but also kind of cozy. Service is very good and quick. read more

Went here at about 8:30-9 in the morning for breakfast, with my sister. She ordered tea, I ordered coffee. The coffee was really good, I have a personal problem with some coffees, glad this wasn't one of them. We both got the ham eggs benedict, hold the salad (because not really feeling a salad for breakfast). I asked for my eggs hard, and she asked for her eggs medium soft, which we both received proper, she also got a side of cinnamon toast which we shared. It was delicious and simple, the hash browns were the best part, slight crunch on the outside soft on the inside, I don't know how you can make a potato so flavorful yet still make it taste like a potato. I've never really tried hollandaise sauce but this stuff was good. The cinnamon toast was also good. Portions were worth the money I would say and the toast was nice and thick. The service was great and the wait times weren't bad at all, but it wasn't that busy anyway. The only thing I didn't like (and the reason for the 4/5) was the decor/atmosphere/bathrooms. The atmosphere was dark, especially for a place that serves breakfast all day, so it made me feel a little tired. The booths were okay, the decor was kind of confused, "is it a sports bar or a diner?". And the bathrooms REALLY needed an update, just even for functionality purposes. Two stalls, both tiny, you have to stand over the toilet to close the door. And the sink had an old "eco" faucet where you had to hold down the release valve with one hand to wash the other, where if you took your hand off the water would stop flowing. Making it take much longer to wash your hands and also defeating the purpose by making you touch the faucet with a dirty hand to wash one hand and then having to switch, holding the dirty valve with your clean hand to wash the dirty hand. And the lighting in the bathroom was yellow and dark, making it look very dreary. I would go there again though. read more

Our group of 6 people.......after being seated, wait 15 minutes for our waitress & coffee (more importantly) to then wait another 45 minutes to be told after we inquired about our eggs & omelettes.......that our breakfasts would be started within another 5 minutes, wasn't fine to begin with. (We watched 4 tables arrive, eat, and go.) Then, we have management come to make only excuses, and no apology, was the straw that broke our starving stomachs. Breakfast, I like it there but they charge you for coffee to jack the price up an extra 2 or 3 bucks and the coffee is terrible. Only middle of the road dinner downtown and it is in tourist central so the prices are higher than value. Americans will recognize that the Bluenose II has a diner feel to it, and the owners nod to their heritage with a few Greek menu items. However, we stopped by for the lobster special and it was fabulous. It was cooked to perfection and served with rolls that melted in your mouth. Add in some Cape Cod clam chowder and some seasoned potatoes and you're talking about a serious meal here. This was a loosen-the-belt and roll-me-out-of-there type dinner and a deal at less than $35 (Canadian) a head. This is the cheapest place in Halifax for a lobster dinner at $26. You get a roll, choice of soup or salad, a potato side or rice with your lobster and rice pudding. This was my first lobster and I found it delicious. It got very busy and there was a line out the door. read more

I have been here before and ordered the deep fried scallops and was happy with the order. This time I ordered grilled scallops with steamed vegetables. Very disappointing. Meal was 20 mins late and the restaurant wasn't even busy. I came in at the same time as a group of 4 people and they were served first. Everything was overcooked and they only gave you half the amount of scallops compared to when you order fried scallops. The grilled scallops were also hidden underneath a mountainful of lemon potatoes. Not worth $21. read more

So we stumbled in on Bluenose on a whim. We were hungry for lobster, but our pockets were light. Immediately we called in asking about the price of their lobster, and compared to other places I've been, it was a deal that had to be taken. But this is where it gets better. The moment we walked in, the manager (guy who answered the phone) immediately recognized us from that call. He literally said, "Didn't you guys call a few minutes ago?" Whoa. That was awesome. Then we were seated and it was so great. Our waiter was okay, but it was the manager that sold it. He periodically stopped by our table and treated us like old friends instead of the typical, "I'm obligated to do this but I don't really care" vibe you get from other managers. And the food was great, their fries surprised me, they're really good. But that lobster was even better. Overall, it was a fabulous experience. I'd say I love the customer service more than the food itself, which I think is better than the other way around, because being in an environment where people care about you tastes much better than whatever food you have to offer. read more

What to say? I've lived in Halifax my entire life and have been to this restaurant many times. I went this morning for breakfast. Got seated right away. Got served right away by a friendly and polite server lots of offers of coffee refills.Didn't have to wait for my table to be cleared or for the bill. I ordered two eggs. I wanted one poached and one hard boiled. NOPE, they couldn't do that. When asked what kind of toast I wanted, white or whole wheat, I asked for multi-grain. She said that she would have to charge me another DOLLAR. For out-of-the-bag-not-homemade-not-that-that-should-matter bread. These are the things that make customers cringe. You want one egg hard boiled and one poached - hell, yes no problem. You know why I know it's no problem? I do it several times a week at home. Come on, go above and beyond, stand out from your competition, don't nickel and dime over a slice of bread. Won't be back. read more

Friendly staff. Good quality food. Good Prices. I was in Halifax on business and ate there twice. I had the seafood platter and the fish and chips. Both high quality, fresh and very hot. This place was just what I was looking for. A diner with a laid-back atmosphere, comfortable seating, and decent food. It's the type of place I felt comfortable eating breakfast on my own one morning when I had some errands to run downtown. The eggs benedict were delicious--perfectly poached egg! I also liked that it came with a nice fresh salad and home fries with tasty seasoning. I can't comment on the other menu items, but from my one experience it would seem that the Bluenose II is the perfect place downtown to stop in for a relaxed, delicious, home-style meal. read more

Went there for lunch with my husband and two children (5 and 2). While they have a kids menu, they do not have plastic cups for the kids. The food was great and service was friendly. At the end of the meal, my two year old needed his bum changed. I went to the women's washroom where one of the stalls had a mess left in it. I searched for the change table but couldn't find one. I asked a waitress and she said the manager said the counter top was sufficient! My child's bum barely fit on it and he isn't a big boy. Someone else came in to use the washroom while I was changing a dirty bum next to the sink where she was to wash her hands. I was mortified. That was one of the most unsanitary conditions I had ever been in. I washed the counter top down with soap and water afterwards, but not every parent would have done the same. Went there twice while I was visiting Halifax, fist time had clams and chips second time lobster dinner which is a extremely good deal for 26 dollars which included sides and a clam chowder or a salad for 26.00 the food was extremely tasty as well as the clam chowder, I have to admit their clam chowder tastes better then the one I make at home. Plus the owner or the worker there was nice enough to offer to store my large suitcase I was dragging with me on the second visit so I could sight see without dragging it behind which I kindly declined but was surprised with his kindness. Stopped in for breakfast around noon. The owner was fabulous having a table setup and waiting. All I were after was bacon and eggs. He allowed for substitution of potatoes for an egg and all was delicious. My wife opted for eggs Benedict. It came with a salad. All here too was great. read more

My wife and I visited this restaurant today at 11 am. It wasn't very busy. We both had the sausage and eggs breakfast, which was great. Service was great too. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the pop music was so loud that it ruined the meal for both of us. Our waitress was sympathetic and said she would ask management to lower the volume. A few minutes later, someone lowered the volume a little bit, but not enough for us. After paying the bill, my wife politely raised the music issue with the manager, who replied with this comment: "Everyone has different music tastes". I translate his comment like this: "I'm the manager of this place and I like loud pop music, just like lots of other people." Out on the sidewalk, my wife and I agreed that we won't be visiting the Bluenose II again anytime soon. That's too bad, because we have been loyal Bluenose patrons for over 40 years. read more
