Dr. Peuser is absolutely outstanding - the very best Veterinarian I've ever encountered! We have two 19 year old cats and we've been working with Dr. Peuser for the better part of a decade. We've had to work through several medical issues (i.e., reduced kidney function, diabetes, arthritis, and hyperthyroid issues). However, due to the care and treatment they've received both our old girls are still going strong at 19! Good proactive care does cost some money but it is well worth it. Animals with even challenging conditions can continue to lead happy lives with proper treatment. Our two kitties are proof of that. Dr. Peuser and Olathe Animal Hospital are fantastic. my mom has been trying to get a Rx refill for a medicine for her poor kitty. they gave her some samples that made her kitty feel better and now refused to call in a refill because they keep switching doctors on her and makbigher come back in For multiple visits with a new dr and then seem confused on how to call in the refill. I called today to try to get some answers and the girl Krista that answered the phone was so rude and refused to help me and then hung up on me. I have been going to Olathe animal hospital for 6 years now since my girl was a kitten. Now, in addition to the 6 year old cat, I have a 4 month old kitten. The staff is all wonderful and Dr. Stueve is always extremely kind, thorough, and happy to answer questions. My complaints are with their VCA affiliation. Their online service capabilities are not adequate. It has been difficult to view one's bill description and payment information after services since their"upgrade". Now I find out that when my dog is sick and needs to be seen asap, I can't book the appointment online. It's a problem needing correction! Let me explain. I already had a grooming appointment established so now I cannot book a sick care appointment. I was trying to do this on a Sunday when they are closed so my dog would have an appointment on Monday morning when they opened. Appointments fill quickly and become emergencies when an animal owner calls to book over the phone on Mondays. It made sense to book the appointment the day before, but their computer program won't allow this! I have been taking my dog there for years and really like and appreciate everyone there. They are caring, knowledgeable, and always professional. Please correct your computer program to allow us to make sick care appointments online although we have grooming appointments scheduled. read more

Excellent care for our two dogs but... It seems since being bought out by VCA, it's become more of a profit center than the veterinary clinic it used to be. We get a notice about one of our dogs needing something about once a month. A simple phone call to get a vaccination turns into pressure for other services to be done. Even bringing them just for grooming now involves having to have a flu vaccine or no service. read more

We had to say goodbye to our beloved 14 year old dog last week. The staff at Olathe Animal Hospital has always been friendly and caring over the years, and Brody always happily trotted in to get his "pets and love" with his exams. This time he couldn't walk in by himself. Dr. Sarah Stueve and Lori were so kind and caring as we worked our way through what we knew was the best decision for our boy. It will take some time to work through losing Brody, but these caring knowledgeable professionals certainly started us on this journey with kindness, warmth and compassion. We recently moved back to the area and returned to Olathe Animal Hospital for our dog. We tried the grooming service. It was just average. They insist on keeping your dog for the entire day rather than the time it takes to complete grooming (generally 1 to 1 1/2 hours). We recently took our dog in for annual vaccinations and only discovered after we left and looked at the documentation that they administered a 1 year rabies shot rather than the 3 year rabies shot. When I called to inquire I was told that they are supposed to ask you which you prefer as the cost for a 1 year shot is $33 versus a 3 year shot which is $79. Neither the vet or the vet tech bothered to explain or ask for our preference. The math is simple. They make more more money ($99) administering a 1 year shot three years in a row. With each passing year that amount will likely increase. Lesson learned to make no assumptions options will be discussed. read more

We switched to Olathe Animal Hospital last November after our previous vet made a bad call that landed one of our dogs in the ICU for a week -- and then she died. We took our other dog, 14 years old, to see Dr. Peuser and we loved him. He diagnosed a serious periodontal disease that our other vet had never even heard of. Then we got a puppy two weeks later and he took great care of her also. But it was what happened in right after Christmas that really cemented our opinion of this pet hospital. Our old boy Jimmy, the love of our lives, took a terrible turn, and we had to say goodbye to him. The care and sensitivity given us by the entire staff was very moving and very appreciated, and they softened the blow as much as anyone could have done. So I would say this veterinary hospital is excellent, both for keeping your pets healthy, and for helping pet owners get through the process of losing them. I am so glad we found them. read more

Dr. Peuser and the staff at Olathe Animal Hospital are wonderful. OAH isn't the cheapest vet around, but you pay for the people and I've never felt less than 100% satisfied by the people at OAH. The receptionists and vet techs are extremely friendly, always remember and dote on my puppy, Hugo, and go out of their way to accommodate my schedule, even when I call to ask when my appointment is and it turns out it started 20 minutes ago. We've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seen, and I've been able to get in same-day both times my puppy has had an issue. And two days after both non-scheduled appointments, the hospital has emailed me to check up on Hugo. Dr. Peuser is self-assured and knowledgeable, but doesn't talk down or speak overly technically in any way. He always explains everything he's doing, gives a thorough exam, and offers his advice and recommendations. But he also respects personal wishes (like waiting to neuter). Hugo loves him and is too busy trying to steal kisses or snag treats to even notice when he's getting shots. After the appointment, Dr. Peuser walks us out and makes sure we get everything we need (new appointment, flea meds, etc.) before saying goodbye. Basically, everything about OAH is great, from the scheduling process to the in-hospital treatment to the follow-up, but especially regarding customer service. Most importantly, my puppy isn't scared of the vet--he's out of his mind with excitement every time we pull into the parking lot! I really like this place because of the unique niche it fills for me. I have a ferret. Ferrets are NOT the most loved creatures (which I don't fully understand) and not all vets will care for them and/or board them if necessary. Whenever I need to take her for her yearly shots or need her to be supervised while I'm out of town, THIS is where I would bring her. They do a GREAT job with her. The two doctors I have seen here BOTH have a great knowledge of the things I should be looking out for with my ferret. We're talking specific ferretty things like adrenal cancer. They are also really great about keeping me informed about issues related to the ferret (mailings about the best time of year to get special vaccinations based on male vs. female). I always get reminders of when it's time to get Fergie her shots, and seriously, my ferret has gotten an e-card on her birthday from them before. I always feel confident that my ferret is in good hands when I take her here. Highly recommended. read more

I looked on Yelp for a Veterinarian that was close to me since no cat that I personally know of, likes to be put in a carrier nor likes a car ride lol. I have to bribe my kitty with tuna put into the carrier. Boy was she mad when I closed the door! Anyway, my Mattie had been having what I thought was a cold but couldn't figure out how she got one as she is indoor only. This cold went on for 2 weeks and wasn't getting better. Cue looking up cat friendly vets. Olathe Animal Hospital is one of the very few in my area to be certified as "cat friendly" Go to their website to see what that means. It meant a lot for me and my Mattie kitty. From check-in to check-out, it was amazing. I am disabled and use a cane. They do not have those push buttons to open their doors, which would make it awesome not only for me, but normal folks trying to open a door with a purse and an unhappy pet in a pet carrier, but I mentioned it to the vet and he said they were thinking about getting it, so that would be a plus. I cannot remember the vet's name but from my experience I believe they are all wonderful. The vet tech were outstanding as well. They were able to get my very unhappy and sick kitty out of her carrier very gently. Once she was in the vet tech's hands she was ok..as in no hissing, etc. The vet came in and they weighed her (10lbs) lol and she even snotted and sneezed all over him. Instead of wiping himself off, he looked at it and felt it between his fingers. Now that is what I call dedication to your job lol. She had an upper respiratory infection and her ears were infected. Since this was my first visit the exam was free. He offered pills, etc, or ONE antibiotic injection right there for $52.00. Umm yeah, I took the injection, anyone ever try to pill a cat? Not happening. They also trimmed her nails on the house. One week later my kitty is all peachy and herself again. She has her "meow" back which is good...and bad LOL. Since I was disabled they let me check out sitting down in the exam room, awesome. Then helped carry her to my car! I can't say enough about the people there. They truly care, know what they're doing, are fast to minimize scaring the pet, and care about the pet owner as well. I will be back! read more

As Shana stated this place know their out of the normal pets. I adopted a conure that had a special diet. When I moved to Olathe, I didn't want to run all the way back to Shawnee Mission Pkwy just to buy his food. I called around and these guys had it. I had another bird that hurt it's wing. I took him in and they gave me the right ointment to heal him right up and a tip of adding apple cider to their water. They knew their stuff. I wouldn't hesitate to bring any of my animals here. I'm choosing to write this review because of an experience I've recently had with this place & seeing that this place has no updated reviews I figured I should share for people trying to choose wether or not this is the right or wrong vet to bring their pet too. I will say we've been going to VCA for the past 2 years with our Medium Goldendoodle. He gets groomed AND any and all shots, treatments, surgery's ect. done here. I have nothing but GOOD things to say about Sarabeth the groomer that we have been loyal too. She's amazing!!! So if you're looking for strictly a groomer I highly suggest her. ON THE OTHER HAND!!!!!! This place has tried on multiple occasions to add on services (shots and bloodwork) to my appts without my consent!!!! With covid this last year and half they have you drop off your dog/you can't go in with them during any service so all these added on things were done without my knowledge until after they were already done & then I was given a call and told they were done and was expected to pay for them when the original appt was NOT set up for said services. Every time this has happened their staffs excuse is "this must have been a miscommunication" but there's a difference between miscommunication & and a lack of communication period. My last appt was strictly suppose to be a basic groom like normal and then a basic exam (that my dog was due for) that exam does NOT include any shots or blood work. When they called me for his exam update I was told they went ahead and drew my dogs blood because they saw that hes due for some kind of blood work reading at the end of May WHICH IS A MONTH AND A HALF AWAY and asked if I wanted to "go ahead and pay for that service early" since they took it upon themselves to draw it WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I said no I didn't have any intention on paying for that service this time around and that I was very frustrated that they didn't contact me first before doing so because now my dog was pricked and prodded at FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. The blood they took cannot be used for next months appt when it's actually due so they drew blood for no reason. THE ONLY THING the girl kept saying was that they do it without asking to "save everyone time" . I call bullshit on that. This saved no one time in my opinion. Due to the vet side of things at this hospital I am very weary about going back because this is an ONGOING occurrence. Please be aware of what your pet is getting done and make sure you tell them specifically to NOT add on any extra Services since apparently when you make appts that doesn't tell them already what you want........ read more

I recently moved to Overland Park from Chicago and I was nervous to find a new vet and groomer for my two spoiled fur babies. This place is awesome. Very nice staff who are efficient and willing to help. The docs took their time and gave my dogs great care. They have a new groomer (can't remember her name) and she is AWESOME! I've tried a lot of groomers and she listened and got it right in the first time. So happy! read more

They are absolutely wonderful! I took my Hamster Chubs there. She had uterine cancer and I had to put her to sleep. We tried antibiotics in case it was an infection. This was the only time I was there. They called to check on her; and sent me a sympathy card signed by the staff when she died. I've been going to the same vet for 30 years for my other pets and, although they are great too, I'm thinking of switching. read more

I can't say enough nice things about this amazing place. They are the most caring people I have ever met. We had an emergency with our corgi and they were so quick to act, met us at the front door and grabbed our baby from us and rushed her back to figure out what was going on. The vet came out and gave us multiple updates and sat down with us to talk, the front staff is so sweet especially when dealing with upset animal mommas. I took my cockatiel there because they advertise that they have an avian vet. Beware! Dr. Romain was good, but is rarely available. The other vet poisoned my bird with a dewormer when he said that she had a bacterial infection. The receptionist would not contact either doctor when I called saying my bird was in bad shape after the medication prescribed there. It was Saturday morning during regular hours and they said she would have to wait until Monday. I went online and consulted & paid an experienced avian-only vet who provided me with a comprehensive report (as best she could) based on the treatments my bird had at OAH. i simply had no one else to turn to... My beautiful cockatiel companion of 22 years died that Monday morning. The vet called 15 minutes after she died, and was not very sympathetic or kind. read more

We had shared our pets with OAH for 19 years but when it came to an end of life situation with our pet, our experience was HORRIBLE AND THE ENTIRE PRACTICE WAS UNCARING. During daytime business hours, it took Dr. Peuser 7 hours to return a critical care call (when their own prescription likely triggered our pet's final crisis). Finally we had to turn to another vet for our end of life care even after having specific conversations with Dr. Claypool about an end of life plan. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED AND NO ONE ELSE (THEIR PET AND CHILDREN) SHOULD HAVE THE SAME UNCARING EXPERIENCE! read more

She has helped us through 2 very special animals that could not be saved. I know she did everything she could and explained everything to us.
