I will never take my pets to this place ever again. I just lost my cat of 18 years and ask for cremation and wanted his ashes back. I took him in and signed papers thinking I was getting his ashes back. Get a call three days later and was told I checked marked the cremation for them to release his ashes in some garden they didn't even tell me about. I hope think place loses all their business I would never recommend this BS place to anyone. Terrible people!! read more

This review is solely based on the TPLO surgery that was done on my dog. I dealt with Dr. Freeman following the procedure, not our normal vet, Dr. Tawny (who is amazing). The TPLO surgery in this case was just over $5000.00, yet when I picked my dog up she was brought to me without a cone. Luckily, I asked about the cone before leaving but when the nurse brought out a cone she mentioned "it may be too small". I didn't think much of it because they sent her out WITHOUT a cone in the first place. Skip to 1 week later and it turns out my dog had been licking the wound during the night or while I was at work and it became infected. When we went back to get the infection checked, I had a few minutes to explain the situation to Dr. Freeman. I told him that if we had the cone that fit my dog from the jump, the infection never would've started. He told me that when the dog is at the clinic, it's the vets responsibility, and when the dog leaves it becomes my responsibility. I guess I can agree with the sentiment but saying something like that doesn't lead me to believe he really cares about my pet. The doctor then told me I was on the hook for whatever follows regarding the infection and I spent another $250 with them before switching vets completely. The vet we ended up switching to was flabbergasted that OP vet center would even consider sending a post-op pet home with the wrong sized cone, let alone without a cone at all. They also said I should've been in contact with the surgeon from the start, yet bringing the surgeon into the conversation was never mentioned at OP vet. The staff at this location is absolutely fantastic (aside from 1 grumpy nurse) and the other vets I encountered there were lovely people. I may have been negligent to a certain extent in this scenario, but I believe (especially at a cost of $5k) that a vet should do everything in their power to set the pet owner up for success. If your business is even 1% wrong, you owe it to your customer to make it right, not turn your back and walk away when they are clearly upset in your waiting room. Like I mentioned before, I like the staff here so this review was difficult to post. I feel like I was wronged and others should be aware of that before spending significant money here. read more

These guys and gals were great! I recently took my 6 week old foster kittens in for their first shots. It was a drop off appointment. Their drive through is super sufficient and everyone was super friendly. The vet personally called me, himself, to let me know the kittens are in good health and what they need for follow up. I really liked this place and would definitely use them for my personal animals! read more

My roommate took both of her dogs here and was very happy with the service. Dr. Tawny cared for her beloved senior pup in his end of life. When it came time to put him down, Dr. Tawny wasn't working but Dr. McKee provided the best care. He spent 2 hours while the decision was made and treated the dog like he was his own. I adopted a dog recently and took her in and have been so happy with the care. They are easy to schedule and always responsive! I will continue to use for all veterinary needs! read more

When retelling the final moments of my soulmates life, the last thing I want to do is add a business plug-- but OVPK V.E.S. deserves the mention. Thank you to Kendra, Lili, Maddie, and Dr. Thomas Mick. After the examination, Dr. Mick's tone was professional and confident but also had a layer of compassion in it. Though my cat was old and visibly sick, Dr. Mick listed off each theory of the sickness, along with what testing would be needed to make that determination, the cost, what aftercare would be needed, and how that would affect his quality of life. He then stopped speaking. I think he stopped speaking then because he knew that I needed to be the one to suggest what everyone in the room already knew. When I mentioned the inevitable, he picked up with the same professional and compassionate tone and explained the benefits of letting my cat go then, rather than putting him through anything else. His professional tone and choice of words never once made me feel like he was guiding me one way or the other. He was merely stating the facts and leaving the decision entirely up to me. At that moment I asked him if he were in my position would he make the same decision. Without hesitation he said "yes." I've never lost a pet, so the process was new to me. Everything from this point forward was up to me and my comfort level with the situation. Would I like to be there when it happens, or not? They explained the process and then took my cat out back to give him a catheter. We were moved into the new room and my cat was given to me wrapped in a blanket. We saw there were hearts on the tape holding in his catheter. That was an extra level of care that really made all the difference. They said we could have as much time as we needed with him, and just to use the phone to call up front when we were ready. I knew I never could make that call so I asked if they give us five minutes and then have Dr. Mick come in. That's exactly what happened. I had a few minutes to say goodbye and Dr. Mick came in, no knock, as instructed. He let me hold my cat as he reached in the blanket for his catheter. He told me the first one was anesthesia, and only a moment later would be the other shot. It was only a few seconds and when it was finished I began to shake and stutter that it didn't feel right for me to hold him anymore and for the doctor to please take him. Dr. Mick did just that. I know this next part is luck, but it was also part of my experience so I must add it. I wish I wasn't the kind of person who, no matter how badly I didn't want to see my cat in the state after he passed on, I wish I wasn't the kind of person who looked. I couldn't just bury my head in my hands and let the doctor walk out with him. Something deep inside of me made me look up as the doctor took my best friend of 13 years away. Thankfully, all I saw was Dr. Mick's back. I didn't even see an ear or anything. So my last memory of seeing my cat was when he put his chin on my shoulder and purred that last time, as opposed to his lifeless body being carried away. After that they let us have as much time as we needed in the room. No paperwork, no interruptions. Just allowed us the few moments of sheer agony and sadness that we felt, until we were able to dust ourselves off and face the world again. Their prices were fair, their staff were caring, and Dr. Mick was professional and compassionate. In any situation where your pet needs to be seen, I would suggest going here, which is also open 24/7. read more

It's always a hard time finding the right place to treat my animals. As a fur mom of 5, it's nice to know I have a reliable vet center right down the street. The staff here is very friendly and always so sweet to my pets. Our bulldog has quite a few health issues and our vet was very honest about the best way to fix them, which helped us avoid an expensive visit to a skin specialist. A perk for me is just calling in for the flea and tick medicine and being able to pick it up without racking on a visit fee. I love my animals/babies(as do all pet owners), and I feel confident with my choice in vet. read more

Brought my dog in because she had been limping off and on. They told me she needed the dog equivalent of her ACL x-rayed and wanted to charge me $500. When I disagreed because her limp was so sporadic, there was no way something was broken he basically shamed me and said if I don't do this now I'll have to get multiple expensive surgeries to fix it later. Eventually they put her on arthritis pills. My dog has a horrible yeast infection in her paws that has been brewing for weeks and was so painful it had caused her limp I would love to know how they missed that because one look from a different vet was all it took. I'm certain they never even looked at her paws and went straight to the ridiculously expensive x-ray and lecturing me as if I don't have her best interest in mind. We brought i our dog in for services with a groomer who is absolutely the best (We have been with her for at least 10 years and my dogs LOVE to see her.) She is the best and I don't think she had anything to do with this. when we picked our dog up, he had a small limp. They let us come right back over to have him checked out. Seemed very nice. If I remember right, the doctor said it was a minor injury and gave us some pain meds. Within 3 days our dog was really limping. By the end of the week or so he could barely walk and then shortly after that had sugar levels of 500. I have no clue as to how this fits together, but I was not happy with the overall handling of my dog. I know my groomer is top notch and had nothing to do with what happened, but I hope our dog makes it another week or two. Looking at reviews, we don't seem to be alone with limping dog syndrome. read more

We have taken our dogs to Dr. Jane since 1992 and there is no one better than her. She has taken care of 3 of our dogs and helped them go to the Rainbow Bridge, and is now taking of our 4th rescue dog. Dr. Jane is a wonderful vet and a wonderful human being. She and the rest of the staff have a love for animals that is very obvious when you're there. I don't know Dr Freeman but my aunt does, and she thinks he is wonderful. We went to this vet back in April 2018 when our pup tore her knee. She had previously had TPLO surgery in 2016 on her other knee with good results. Dr. Toni assured us, more than once, the surgery they do is "just as good" as TPLO and that Lexi would do fine. Lexi had her surgery in July, were were told no activity but no rehab needed just pain meds when she seemed to feel discomfort. We knew it was not right. We phoned numerous times and brought her back for x-rays. Dr. Toni said it was probably the metal clamp that was moving and causing her limping and discomfort, so they went back in and removed the clamp. Again, no rehab needed. We couldn't be more disappointed. We have an 8 year old lab that we've had since she was 4 months old that is unable to play, run or be a normal 8 year old pup. Biggest mistake we ever made! DO NOT let this vet clinic tell you the surgery they perform is as good as TPLO.....it is not even close. Do what's best for your furry family members and always trust your gut. We wish we would have. We're now out more than $2200 and no better off than when we went in. read more

Our cat, Norman, got into trouble and accidentally stepped in wet epoxy. We tried to remove it all when it was still wet, but it hardened on the hair. We struggled to cut out the hair near his paws and feared we would hurt him. We took him to this location today and Tawny made us feel at ease. Although he looks a little funny, he was brave and Tawny was able to remove the epoxy from his fur. She even saw him for the gentleman that he is. I recently moved to OP with an older, blind dog. I had planned to keep going to my vet in Eudora for routine things like shots and meds, but when my dog got sick one weekend I knew it would be better to have a doctor close by. Yelp reviews steered me to OP Vet Clinic, and I couldn't be happier with the doctors and staff there. They worked us in late on a Monday afternoon, and when Sophie had worsened two days later we again went in for a late, unscheduled appointment that kept Dr. Tawny and several staff members there past closing time. I brought Sophie back the next day -- she was in critical condition by that time. The story does not end happily but the care and competence of Dr. McKee and the staff helped ease the pain of our loss. Not only was Dr. McKee good with our beloved pet, he also dealt kindly with two distraught humans -- my husband and me. All this despite the fact that the clinic was crazy busy that day. The cost for the intensive medical care, including X-rays and lab work, was about what I expected to pay (I am a frequent consumer of veterinary care) -- not cheap but not exorbitant. I will be happy to take my other dog there in the near future. Besides the excellent medical care I appreciate how the staff cared for Sophie by clipping her nails and cleaning the crusty eye matter off her face. She looked gorgeous and that is how we will remember her. read more

Dr Cindrich and staff have been caring for my dogs for 5 years. I don't think I have ever known a veterinarian as knowledgeable as Dr. Cindrich, or a staff as nice and caring as at Roeland Park Veterinary Center. Their fees for services and medication are reasonable.They are always accessible for answering questions, and my dogs are comfortable boarding there. My two dogs and I are very fortunate to have such a wonderful vet clinic in my neighborhood. read more
