It is always hard when you have to make the decision to put your pet down. That is what we had to do when we went on 6/6. We had been to blue pearl in 2023 where they saved my dogs life with a quick diagnosis. So, when he became ill again, they were the only place I thought of. I had full intentions of the process being a simple hydrate and leave, but he was relapsing from his 2023 diagnosis. Now 10, and lots of money to treat with no guarantee of surviving, we had a decision to make. I wish I had gotten everyone's name, but from the techs to the vet, everyone was so patient and kind. They assisted me through the process, they offered me perspective and support. While they cannot make a decision for me, they definitely made me feel supported either way. Ultimately, we made the decision to allow our pet to pass with dignity and without risking him going through the treatment again. They were so patient as we spent time with him before and after. They are an emergency vet, but you would have thought we were the only family there. While i left devastated because my boy was gone, their support was more than I ever would have expected. While it is expensive, it was well worth the money to know he passed with his family and all his new friends around him.​ read more

We were referred here and ir surprised me since I thought they were only an ER for Pets and didn't realize they have specialties here, like internal medicine, Cardiology, Surgery, Oncology. It's typically nice and clean and staff are nice and professional. You have to sign agreement to pay when arriving but thats understandable since veterinarian care is expensive without insurance. My cat passed away here and they gave us time to say our goodbye to him. They had packages to cremate and for memorization if you wanted them. Financing is available too though I can't say much on that topic since I didn't utilize it. Hope you won't have to bring your pet here, but the vets here are compassionate and I can tell they care about animals. read more

Fire Dr Runnels!!!!! He can't read an X-ray. He's impatient, rude and doesn't have respect for old dogs or their owners. This guy was the vet I've met! Who called said in so many words "come here we need to kill your dog".My dog had two successful surgeries by Dr Kunkle, this man is top notch as a surgeon. He was so caring towards my dog. Dr. Runnels wouldn't make a pimple on his hiney!!! It's Saturday and I will never forget you Runnels. When my first estimate was possibly $ 6000.00 but when I expressed my concern over the cost they took that estimate away and came back with a lower one. Now a little over $3000.00. Now I am left with wondering if I just killed my dog because she only got worse (if I agree to the $6000.00 would she have been treated better). After arriving with my 2 year old dog with the start of aspiration pneumonia she had only been with them less than 48 hours and she died. I truly do not know how these employees sleep at night knowing the type of care the animals get is not what should be given. My dog died in an oxygen tank by herself. MALPRACTICE -- DO NOT LET YOUR PET BE SEEN BY THE VET SEQUOIA BRUINTON ‼ (Read paragraph 4 most important if it's too long and paragraph 6 with the ‼ emoji at the beginning). I think about it every single day. It happened May 18th 2025, and now that it's approaching the end of the year I need to have the strength to tell you all about the vet Sequoia Bruinton at Blue Pearl. My sweet dog was under her care for part of the 3 days he was inpatient at the emergency vet for end stage heart failure. He got to go home for a few weeks before he started showing symptoms again like the day he was brought into the ER. He was the sweetest most gentle boy to everyone and never had a problem with any person, especially females so when Sequoia came into the room for the quality of care check up I requested, it surprised me when he started growling. After a while I was able to get him to calm down and they took him back to give him his check up. Ultimately I decided to go through with euthanasia. The techs failed to correctly administer his IV for the sleepy medicine, and the techs heartlessly were laughing loudly behind the door while they stuck him with a new IV a second time. When they were done I opened the door to see my sweet baby boy looking at me wanting to go home, so confused at what was going on. Letting these girls do what they were doing without any resistance. I didn't say anything but I thought, what kind of person would be laughing out loud while a patients dog is about to get put under?????? ‼ I had my time with him and called Sequoia in, then my boy started growling again. At that point he should've been sleepy but he wasn't. It wasn't supposed to be like this -- I've had 3 other animals I've had to put down and this was unlike any other. I tried to calm him down, but before I could get him calm and to stop growling, I look over and Sequoia already pushed half of the euthanasia through, already killing him. She took him from me. She took his peace from him. She took my peace from me. This was NOT URGENT. I could've gone home with him and waited a few hours for the next vet to come in the next shift, but she was too heartless and too impatient. And that same day I called her crying trying to understand what happened, and she gaslighted me telling me that most vets don't give the sleepy medicine before the euthanasia when that is a downright LIE. ‼ This is something I will live with for the rest of my life, replaying in my head, but to her? I guess being heartless is an ordinary day of business. If you love your animal as much as I loved mine... don't allow her to see your pet, don't allow her to be the one to administer the euthanasia. I already addressed this to management. They didn't do anything but send me flowers and say they were sorry. I wish they never sent me flowers, just a week long reminder of my excruciating pain and experience until the flowers died. read more

I went here for my dog to see the cardiologist as a consultant through my vet. $800+ now and as I'm asking questions, he's on his phone. Reading and replying to a message. We rushed my dog to BluePearl Pet Hospital and they kept saying that she probably got sick because she was exposed to weed/marijuana. I kept telling them that she had NO access to weed at all and they didn't believe me because her "symptoms" were similar to those who were exposed. They gave her a THC test and it was negative but they said it wouldn't show up within a few days. Left and then took her to another vet (Rodgers Veterinary Services) the next morning and they did a blood lab test and did xrays. Turns out she was severely anemic, etc., due to other reasons and in critical condition. This hospital is all about business without compassion and just assuming made up stuff. We brought our dog Jade to Blue Pearl Augusta on April 10th around 5:40 AM in an emergency. She had collapsed, was struggling to breathe, and lost control of her bowels. Despite this, Blue Pearl ran only minimal tests and told us they found nothing wrong. We were told our only option was 24-hour observation for $688.25 -- with no actual plan for further testing. Instead, we took her to Rogers Veterinary Services a few hours later. They immediately found Jade's stomach was full of a toxic substance and treated her. Their vet stated this kind of check was standard procedure. Jade would've likely died had we left her at Blue Pearl. I sent two formal complaints requesting a refund and written apology. I have received no response whatsoever. This wasn't just poor service -- it was medical negligence. And silence after nearly killing an animal is inexcusable. I brought Bear in because when he woke up in the morning, he couldn't walk. The staff and vet at Blue Pearl were great! They got a stretcher, put him on it and brought us to a room. Bear was sen by a vet, X-rays were taken and a diagnosis made (he hurt his back somehow before I found him and he has (I guess) the equivalent of a bone spur or calcium deposit in his back). I know this is kind of late, but we lost our 15.5 yr old Wendy this past summer. We took her to Blue Pearl and they were willing to explain all the treatments available. Ultimately, these were not in her best interests and we decided to let her go in the dignified manner that she had lived her life in. There was conversation and no judgement from the staff. My girl was able to pass peacefully in my arms and I was given all the time that I needed to be with her. The staff was kind and took her paw prints even though I initially declined them. They notified me when her ashes were ready and provided the paw prints at no charge. They listened to me cry and gave me comfort. There are only a handful of things that scare me. Heights. Cheap beer. Pointless conversations. And any time my boy Oscar Thelonious is not feeling his best. It was that last one that led me to BluePearl. One mundane Sunday afternoon (a few months ago) Oscar began to appear disoriented when he walked. He was leaning to his left side and would keep making a circle. Then his left back leg seemingly went limp. Then his right back leg. To say I was in a state of panic would be more mild than off brand cheddar cheese. Our regular vet's office was closed, it began pouring down rain outside, and I had tears welling up in my eyes. Oscar has my whole heart. And in that moment, he needed my whole mind. I found Bluepearl on Yelp and gave them a call. They were open and said to call once I had arrived. We weren't in the parking lot for more than 5 minutes before they called back to have us come in. I filled out the usual paperwork and immediately we were in a room awaiting the veterinarian. That too was a short wait. He asked a few questions, took Oscar back to draw blood samples, and soon Oscar was in my lap acting as if nothing was going on. We soon learned it was canine idiopathic vestibular disease (commonly known as old dog disease). Granted Oscar is 12+ years old and this was the best case scenario of what it could've been. The vet gave us a prescription to keep him sedated for two days, the typical run time of the worst symptoms of ODD, and said to simply keep an eye out for improvements. All I cared about that day was expedient service. And that's what I received. I would have overlooked rudeness or exuberant prices, but neither of those were present. I will always be grateful to the team at BluePearl for that day and they will be top of mind when such emergencies occur again. And in case you're wondering, Oscar is back to his normal self. I'd give a zero if I could. All they care about is money. If you aren't rich or have thousands to shell out, they immediately want to euthanize or tell you that a life saving method or test or treatment ~may~ work. They didn't give my baby a chance. She had fluid build up. They could have drained the fluid or given her medication to reduce the fluids. Instead, they wanted me to fork out 500 dollars for a test that would have been irrelevant seeing as the real issue was fluid build up around heart/lungs. If you want to give your baby a fighting chance, go elsewhere. I will live with huge regret for the rest of my life for taking my baby there. I brought her in at 9:30pm on Dec 7 and she was gone from my life at 11:30. Pm. No compassion. All they care about is the transactions. Truth be told, most veterinary care is such a scam. They go to school so long and are supposed to save animals NOT TO PUT THEM ALL TO SLEEP. It is honestly so heartbreaking and disgusting that vets think they can charge out the a$$ for animal care. I know there are a lot of bad reviews, and I agree that the front desk isn't the best (don't fall for the "stabilization package"), but Dr. Flippo saved my cat's life and went above and beyond for me. My cat went into respiratory distress and could barely breathe. Panting, vomiting, screaming, couldn't walk, etc. I took him to my vet who said he probably wouldn't make it but that I can take him to Blue Pearl. I did and refused the stabilization package at check-in. I agree that it is overpriced; however, it makes sense given they are the only animal hospital in the area. I think the problem is with the management/front desk/payment structure, rather than with the providers. I was very offput when they told me about the $180 exam fee, but honestly, if I had taken my cat anywhere else with less resources, he most definitely would have passed away. When Dr. Flippo came in, she told me he needed to be on oxygen, medicine/everything overnight. She diagnosed him with aspiration pneumonia, something that my PCP couldn't do. I'm a grad student and have $20 in my bank account. She sat with me, took things off my bill, and gave me amazing discounts until I could work something out. My cat is alive because of her generosity. She was gracious and never rushed with me and my concerns. I am so grateful. She spent tons of time with me in the clinic, consulting other vets, and on the phone with me updating me about my baby. If you come here, just refuse any additional services that the front desk offers, and ONLY pay for the exam fee. The vet will come in and tell you if they need anything else. read more

....Questionable care marred further by terrible customer service.....We brought in an ailing cat whose primary symptoms included repeated vomiting and inability to hold anything in its stomach. As part of a nearly $1600 bill were the issuance of "oral" antibiotics that were to start the same evening we were in their facility. Instead of going ahead and attempting to give the cat its first dose WHILE IN THE CLINIC, they were put in a bag for us with the verbal instructions to administer after we got home. We did and to no one's surprise the cat promptly threw the medication up. This led to an immediate return visit back to the clinic where another doctor (the original had already left) smartly and wisely decided that an injectable antibiotic might be a better way to get an already vomiting cat to take in and hold down its medication. We of course were also charged for this new version of antibiotic and when we asked for a credit back on the oral medicine originally prescribed were simply told.... sorry, that's just the way the cookie crumbles....it's too bad your already ailing cat with a sensitive stomach can't tolerate the medicine given orally and it's neither our fault nor our responsibility that he can't. So we have three (3) highly questionable calls made by BluePearl....1) Why prescribe ORAL antibiotics to a cat having trouble holding anything down and not interested in eating or consuming even water at that point especially when injectable alternatives were readily available? 2) Why did BluePearl not even attempt to administer the first dose themselves while the cat was in their charge?? 3) After the inevitable result of throwing up the oral medication and subsequent trip back to the clinic where an injectable medication was given and billed for, why would BluePearl not credit back the $100 charge (out of $1600!) for the ill-advised and wasted oral medication that was not usable??? I would never take another animal back to Blue Pearl due to this lack of good judgement and customer concern. If we suffer another small animal emergency, we will be heading to CVETS in Columbia! read more

Great first time experience. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. My dog had a heart condition and couldn't be treated w/o seeing a specialist for more detailed diagnosis. Blue Pearl was able to do more specific testing needed to determine best course of treatment. I did not give 5 stars only because the cost is outrageous. However if you love your fur baby and they are part of your family then be expected to incur cost to care for them. We left there with a diagnosis, treatment plan, and my 11yr old healer/mix was feeling much better with a better quality of life left to live. She had almost 3 Liters of fluid drained from her and they started her 1st round of meds before leaving. She was almost back to her normal self when leaving Blue Pearl than when we 1st arrived that morning. We missed her spunky very sweet & energetic personality and was glad to see it slowly returning. read more

My little Westie was under the care of the cardiologist, Dr Hall, for pulmonary hypertension and suspected pulmonary fibrosis. The meds he prescribed extended my little buddies life 10 months. Both Dr hall and the technicians were compassionate. That was 5 star . Next should be no star. The bad part is their hours and the person they had answering the phone the night my little boy died. He was scheduled for euthanasia the next day but went in to respiratory failure Thursday night on 22 Feb after my vet was closed. I called Blue Pearl to see if there was anything I could do to help him not suffer so much. I am about 35 to 40 min away and he was dying a horrible death. He had lost control of his bodily functions, was seizing, couldn't breathe! The girl who answered the phone must not have any medical training, asked no questions anout what was happening, advised me to drive in and put me on hold without knowing the situation! i took my 13 year old GSD into the emergency hospital in Augusta yesterday because the regular vet couldn't get her in. i was very worried because she was having difficulty walking and a lack of balance. The attendants and the receptionist were very helpful. When the vet Dr. Heather McCann came in she was very professional but didn't make you feel comfortable or even try to ease your worry. She was very clinical and I received a diagnosis. I will do a follow up with my regular vet where there is compassion not only for the pet but for the owners as well. Upon reviewing the report in my car she had written that my dog has a scruffy coat. Why would that even be necessary to write? My GSD is shedding her coat right now and I would have expected the vet to take notice of this. Her comments weren't necessary. I guess if your dog has an emergency you need to have it groomed before you take it to the emergency pet hospital. So, DO NOT ever trust Blue Pearl "emergency" vet care! My 2 1/2 yr old GSD came down with bloat last night about 7. Almost every vet in the area refers you to these clowns. I called and they informed me they were closing at 10 and taking no new animals. I ended up in Columbia, SC 2 hours away at CVet....wonderful, very professional people. They took him immediately into surgery and he is recovering. Bloat is a life threatening issue and every handler/breeder I talked to today said they had never heard of a emergency vet turning away a bloated animal. Indeed, CVet said my dog went immediately to the head of the list when they determined it was bloat. A word to the wise is sufficient. read more

I wish I could give the a negative number for a rating. I took my precious 3 year old yorkie to Blue Pearl in Augusta GA on 5/3/2022. My baby was wheezing and had been vomiting. We were left in a room awaiting care and my dog started vomiting. I ran out to front desk and told the blue pearl employee and they did nothing. I had to search the clinic to clean vomit my self. When doctor did arrive to the room we advised of my dog's vomiting. He did not even acknowledge it. I asked if my dog was in Heart failure and what stage. I was told that he was uncertain. Only to return to blue pearl two days later to see the cardiologist to be told that my dog was not in heart failure. I have called many times only to not have my calls returned and told of days when return calls would occur which did not happen. So please if you are in the Augusta ga area take you pet to UGA or Columbia for emergency care. Blue Pearl in connection with Banfield is a racket and a scam. Same corporation. Update: My baby passed away May 12th 2022 after additional trips to BluePearl and refusal of care from Banfield (location of his primary care vet). The people at Blue Pearl were heartless and compassionless regarding his death and had a lack concern and care. My baby was throughly disrespected in everyway morally and medically. The pain in dealing with these people was unbelievable. We still have no closure. My pet final end of life care was administired by north augusta pet hospital. Where he was treated with compassion and care but it was too late due to the issues with Bluepearlvet. This is a bad place. Note: If you definitely want poor care and or death for your pet this is the place. Death is almost assured along with a don't care attitude. Nothing can bring my baby back. So I've read a few other reviews and it seems like if you don't have tons of money to waste, they don't care. In my case, I'd like to say that was true. But no, around 1000$ later and 4 visits (oh and about 8-9 hours of waiting in between all 4) my poor baby is now deaf. I went in initially for his ear infection. They were recommended and I was told they were great. The guy vet I saw was great and very compassionate. I just can't say the same for the following visits. The medicine they gave me this third time for his ear infection (otibiotic) is not recommended for dogs over 8 and/or small dogs as it has a high chance to cause deafness, both of which Boo is. Was I told this during the exam or after when I got my paperwork? No. Was it written anywhere on my paperwork? Nope. The medicine came in a little box with no instructions outside of what was written on his discharge papers and no warnings.When I called back about this, the first thing out of the receptionist's mouth was "oh you can pay to have him reevaluated" She also pretended like she doesn't know anything about any of the medicines they give out. Why are you working there if you're that stupid. They are heartless and don't care that my baby is so scared his little face is constantly soaked with doggy tears now or that he'll never be able to hear me tell him I love him again and he's dry heaving and unbalanced from sudden loss of hearing. They also tried to blame it on the infection but he could hear me just fine before I put the drops in. 6 hours later, we get home and he's deaf as a doorknob. I was suppose to receive a call from someone in their office about this, but it's been 2 days and no call. I can just tell you that if he doesn't get his hearing back, I'm calling my attorney. Also before anyone says it's my fault for not doing my research, let me ask you this. If you take your dog to an expensive vet, who you trusted, you shouldn't have any worries about it to have to go make sure it's safe before giving it to your pet. Also, it being "rare", some vets feel like it's pointless to even mention it. But this is MY baby, not theirs and I have the right to know a major side effect of the medicine, no matter how rare. I brought my german shepherd dog in to make sure her leg wrap wasn't too tight.. i would've taken her to her usual vet but it was the weekend and they were closed. she had a appointment at her regular vet coming up in 2 days but i just wanted to make sure the wrap was good bc her foot looked a little swollen. They lady told me that she shouldn't have wrap around her wounds and she stated the vet we go to is "not golden standard" um excuse me?? first of all my vet is 5 star review and AMAZING and charge very cheap. second of all my vet cares a lot for animals and give them the best treatment possible. anyways, i was sitting there for 2 hours then they came and dog took my dog but wouldn't let me come or even tell me where she is being taken to. I then wait for an hour and my dog still isn't back.. i went front desk and told them to bring my dog back and that i am leaving. When my dog came back they had cut some of her wrap off on the bottom and told me if i wanted her legs re wrapped it'll be over 60 dollars per leg and she asked me what my price range was bc they overcharge.. like isn't that unprofessional to even say when you work there?? idk..I felt weird energy and wasn't comfortable being there whatsoever. plus there attitudes are HORRIBLE and they don't listen to anything you say everything is about money money money. We used Blue Pearl last winter when our dog was bitten by a snake. We almost lost her twice on their table but thankfully she recovered. Had it not been for Blue Pearl, she would have died. We were pleased with the doctors and staff and were thankful that we had an emergency vet nearby. That experience deserved a 5 star rating. Currently their hours are just pointless, hence the low rating. Sunday2:00 PM - 12:00 AM, Monday - Friday10:00 AM - 8:00 PM, SaturdayClosed An emergency vet should be open when regular vets are closed, not during regular business hours. Last night our dog bit a bee or wasp and being a Saturday evening we had no resources. Thankfully, this was not lifethreaten ing for her and some benadryl helped the situation but had it been serious we could have lost her. I understand staffing shortages are an issue locally but please adjust the hours to suit the needs of the community. read more

I was apprehensive about going to an emergency vet because of prevuous experiences elsewhere. But this hospital was different.. They were able see my boy dog quickly. Very upfront about pricing. Did detailed tests after giving me an estimate and getting my approval. Diagnosis from the Dr., meds, and care plan. Professional, super nice, Covid conscious. Highly recommend. read more

I was so super nervous for my fur baby but the staff was very nice and made me feel comfortable. The assistant also made sure my fur baby was okay and not nervous. The veterinarian was very professional and extremely empathic. He gave great advice and offered alternative treatments. The patient rooms/ examination rooms are equipped with TV's and magazines for fur baby owners. They do have prescriptions on site and are available for any questions or concerns you may have after you leave. I your I never have another emergency situation but if I do, this is where I'm going.
