So I just had another appointment for another one of my pets and it was a completely different experience. First and foremost, the young lady at the front desk (who was not Peggy) was kind, smiling, welcoming, and friendly with both her words and demeanor. She asked us to wait one moment while she checked out another customer, which was quick and easy, and immediately checked us in. We discussed the reason for our visit, and she happily took our pet to the back for her immunization. She returned a few minutes later with my pet and led us to an exam room so that Dr. Henderson could speak with us. There was no lengthy wait this time; Dr. Henderson was in the room within two minutes. She went over my pet's health, reason for our pet's visit, and asked if we had any other questions regarding our pet's health or the visit in general, of which I didn't have any. Dr. Henderson then apologized for the events of our last visit. She reassured me that the new office manager had been informed of the events, and instituted changes that should prevent any further issues in the future. To be fair, it appeared to me that these changes were effective considering the night-day difference between our last visit only two weeks ago and now. Dr. Henderson offered me an opportunity to speak with the manager myself, to which I declined, and commented that our visit today was a completely different experience from our previous visit. I thanked her for the opportunity, and that was the end of our interaction. Checkout was super quick and easy, and the bill was much MUCH better this time, and on par with previous billing for the same type of visit. I hope that this experience is the new standard at Paradise: A friendly, professional, and welcoming front desk; adherence to appointment times with little or no waiting (things do happen, it's understandable. But minimize the impact on other appointments); a quick, no-nonsense appointment with an awesome, knowledgeable, friendly and personable veterinarian; comparable and competitive pricing for services. Time will tell, but I am encouraged. read more

ive gone to that building for over 10yrs with zero issues. Dr Knittle retired & almost instantly the vibes there became more hostile. My husband was banned for disagreeing with someone that led to a heated argument on BOTH sides. Now I have a pet I'm going to lose & I disagree with Dr Henderson about putting my dog immediately to sleep she refuses to prescribe her anything to make her comfortable. I called another vet to get a 2nd opinion & now I am no longer welcome to bring my animals to paradise. Shady way to do business. read more

My appointment for my pet was at 4:50 and I showed up a bit early. There was no one else in the office at the time. While waiting, another person came in with their pet after I was there. I was sent to a holding room 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment to wait until the vet would come in to see me. Well the tech informed me that she would be taking my pet back to the examening room without me. After I was told that I could not go back with my pet, I told the tech to do what they had to do. At this point I had been there for over an hour, so I wanted to just get my pet looked at and leave. The vet finally came out with the diagnosis and told me that I would have to come back for a follow up. Ummm, sure. The vet could not even explain the meds or if she administered it in the office. She had her tech do it. And the tech proceeded to tell them how to administer them backwards. On top of it all, the person that came in ten minutes after I did, was seen and left at least ten minutes before I did. After I left, at 6:10 (I was the last person there as they close at 6:00), I get a text message that they messed up with the shot records that they gave her, she needed a vaccine, and they didn't charge me and that they were not going to document it and I would have to come in so they can change me for the vaccine and give me the records. Needless to say, I will not be going back even for the follow up. I will go to my old vet, much better that that place. Plus the office staff is not the friendliest and the office manager couldn't smile if she had to. Now I know why a week ago when I went to go pick up shot records for my dogs another person was yelling at the staff and looking at me to not bring my pet there and that they were a rip off. The new owner doctor refuses to provide a price for neutering a six month old Goldendoodle. No surgical price list for a routine procedure. But, an expensive prior appointment to receive a neutering price quote. We have been regular customer(s) for our pets since 2021. No longer will we go to this DVM. A bit of disclaimer. Anytime I go medical facility, dentist, hospital, clinic, etc. I always ask how much the "treatment" and how much my insurance will cover it. I do this to avoid any shock when the bill arrives. So when I first was recommended to this place by a colleague, I stated that at the beginning, how much was this? How much was that? At the end it was all about communicating and I was not "shock" at the bill at the end of the visit. The place does look dated, but has the small town vibe. I was a bit disappointed when I got a nail trim my puppy came out bleeding on one paw and was extremely scared sitting on the doctor's table. The front office was friendly and kind and helped me at the last minute with any vaccines I needed for my puppy, since a lot of places were closed due to the pandemic. Ordering refills for my puppy monthly/quarterly medication was a breeze without any hassle of another doctor's visit. read more

Had the worst experience with this vet, he manhandled my cat horribly even tho she was perfectly compliant and calm, he shoved a thermometer up her butt so hard and roughly. I had to pry his hands off of her when she was done he was holding her so hard, she was traumatized. He also couldn't even treat her issue, went to a different vet and they treated her immediately and figured it out while I went twice here and not even any testing took place, horrible place, they treat cats badly and are incredibly incompetent, they also overcharge just for a consultation. read more

I just recently bought a new dog and had to find a vet for routine care. This place was not the closest to our home but we decided to try it based on the reviews and I am so happy we did. All the staff here are so nice and helpful. My pup has had an accident every time we've been here and they have always been so nice about it. Recently on a Saturday we woke up and realized that our dog had blood in his stool and I of course freaked out. I immediately called not realizing it was Saturday and luckily they were open. They were pretty booked up but told me to come in and they would squeeze me in when they could. After I got there I didn't have to wait long before we were seen. Luckily it was nothing serious but I was still relieved that we were able to get in and be seen by our regular vet. read more

During a visit back to Augusta for a memorial service of a dear friend, these folks saved my bacon in taking spectacular care of our baby girl, Triscuit. When my original choice for grooming and temporary board didn't call back, I called Paradise and they accepted her with open, friendly arms. She came out that afternoon on a Saturday happy and sparkling clean - and that's the measure of a good place. They understood that she needed special attention because she doesn't get on with other pups too well (yet), which was much appreciated, too. When looking for dog care in the Augusta, Georgia, area, look no further. We were there under sad circumstances, so having that part of the trip taken care of so well was definitely a gift. read more

If you know who Karen is, you've met me when I dropped my roommate off for surgery at Paradise Animal Hospital. If you don't know who Karen is, be assured that she wants to speak to your manager, immediately, even though her coupon is expired. (I'm not always this way. It was STRESSFUL.) I wasn't aware that my roommate was having surgery. That's mostly on me. I heard 'biopsy,' and assumed that OF COURSE, this veterinarian who has 'please do not enter any protected health information' on his review site just like a HUMAN doctor, MUST think of the word biopsy the same way as me (a first-time, largely-moronic, dog owner who cries while reading pet MD): as a minimally invasive procedure designed to take a small piece of the problem and eyeball it closely to see what the bigger problem is. Wrong. What biopsy meant for my 6-year-old Cane Corso with a string of breast lumps was a partial mastectomy, no waiting period required. Guess which one of us couldn't hear over the sound of their own heartbeat when the TRUE meaning of biopsy was iterated, the morning of? This guy. Don't be this guy. Ask better questions. Paradise is happy to answer even the dumbest questions (I know this from experience), but 'what is a biopsy?' isn't a dumb question if your roommate is having one (I also know THIS from experience). They kindly asked if I was willing to pay for post-op painkillers. Here I must apologize to the staff, because I was both rude & incoherent by this point. Yes, please, give my dog what's best for her, don't ask me if 25 dollars is more than I want to spend on my much-loved roommate - dear God, she's having a body part removed YES GIVE HER PAINKILLERS, and do you keep valium here? No, the human kind. We had my girl up on a scale first thing (her diet has been equally successful to mine, but she and I have had a discussion and we're going to do better next time, and SHE IS MUSCULAR AND BIG BONED LEAVE HER ALONE). She was in the mood for delicious tin-of-cat, which is how she perceives feline kennels. She is always in that mood, to be frank. Doctor Knittel was ready for the 115 lbs of hungry dog that suddenly alerted to the fact that he was hoarding a variety pantry of tin-of-cat. He was not so ready for Karen. Karen chased him down the hallway with a backpack full of: food, bottled water, toys, shirt, blanket, extra leash; all of which she packed for a BIOPSY, and she blubbered all over the counter while insisting that Doctor Knittel (backing slowly away from her now) take the obviously unwashed human shirt that she thrust at him because her roommate was a rescue and she had abandonment issues (the human, not the dog) and SHE DOESN'T KNOW I'M COMING BACK AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A BIOPSY. Karen then cornered the staff of highly qualified technicians and attempted to hostage-negotiate for an earlier pick up, since the stated time of 'around 5 p.m.' was approximately three years too long for both Karen and roommate. You want to surprise-operate on her, and then put her in JAIL all day, and nothing will smell familiar and she will be STARVING and her roommate will be in her tent outside anyway, so maybe we could visit? The staff firmly (but kindly) rejected the early pick up, offering to call - which they did, as soon as Phoebe was awake. Whereupon Karen again attempted to negotiate pick up, which was just as firmly overruled. Blubbering continued throughout the day, until FINALLY it was time to retrieve my roommate. We didn't need the stretcher I packed, and the bottom line is that we are both doing much better. She's still Phoebe, but I am no longer Karen. TLDR: Paradise was awesome, the pet owner was a bit of a clod, and the dog is fine. The hospital is clean, the staff is friendly and well educated, and they enumerate costs carefully before services are rendered. Doctor Knittel keeps up on current drug interactions, parasite/tick/flea preventatives, and animal prophylaxes, and is an old hand at dealing with both his animal clientele and their sometimes-misbehaving, clod-like, human roommates. read more

Seemingly-emotionless veterinarian puts monetary procurement above patient satisfaction/full understanding of costs. "Decent" prices* come with an undisclosed * until time of payment. $183 per rabbit for spaying costs brought me here, as it's one of the lowest prices in the area along with great reviews of the facility itself. If you bring more than one pet (I have two) you qualify for a 10% discount.. I booked two surgeries after speaking to a very well-informed, kind receptionist who took the time to calculate my estimated final costs before finalizing an appointment. She did mention that the final cost ($183 x 2 with 10% off = ~$330 before tax) did not include any medications that may be prescribed after surgery, so I was prepared for a final cost above the estimated $330. When I dropped my rabbits off in the morning, they had me sign a form stating that postoperative pain medications may cost anywhere between $25-$45 per pet, but the receptionist assured me that it'd be towards the $25 range. I want to note that this particular receptionist was very nice-- she went as far as to give me a call once they were finished and awake just to give me a status update. Fast forward a couple of hours: I came to pick up my pets and pay a bill of no more than ~$385 when I was put on the spot for $411. The higher number wasn't too big of a problem knowing that both rabbit were safe after successful surgeries, but I wanted to be fully informed of the charges I was paying! The receptionist (different one than from this morning, yet still very nice) struggled to give me a clear answer as to why the price differed so from the estimate I was given, and we both calculated it multiple times only to end up with a total around the $385 I had expected in the first place. After some back and forth (she was just as confused as I), she brought the vet himself out to explain the charges. Turns out he tacked on an additional $15 per pet as part of a "post-operative pain medication" that had been administered immediately following the surgery, which, again, is not that big a deal, but I was taken aback at his nonchalant attitude as he stated that it was what it was and he had no intention of adjusting it since I had signed the pain medication form that morning. Let me be clear: the point I'm trying to make isn't that I'm upset over an extra $30. I'm upset that the veterinarian added additional charges to my bill without explaining what they were or why they were added, and even his receptionists weren't aware of the reasoning behind the elevated price tag! I'm annoyed with his behavior and his use of my signature on the form as a means to make it seem like I was FULLY aware of what changes could be made to my bill, and him acting as if he was completely in the right. IMO, if the person paying the bill isn't fully aware of the reasons behind the price(s) they're paying, that's not right. I wouldn't have had an issue had it just been even briefly mentioned in the first place, but instead I got a disinterested vet using a technicality to justify his hidden fees. I believe that you should be able to trust the person who's caring for your beloved pets, in both that they will take care of them and that they will not mislead you. This vet did not fulfill the latter. The fact that my pets made it safely out of the surgery & that the receptionists I encountered were fully accommodating and kind are what makes this review a two star rather than less. It's obvious that this vet is not a good match for me or my pets, so we will not be returning. That being said, I'm sure that there are others who've had much better experiences than I. Overall, I don't find this vet a poor practitioner, I find him lacking in people skills. I'm disappointed that this facility didn't work out for my/my pets' needs, as I found it satisfactory in every place except the most important, the doctor himself. read more

Dr. Steven Knittel and his staff are welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Easy to make an appointment and barely had to wait when I came in. I was told that if it's your first visit and your pet needed vaccines - the flat rate of the visit will be waived. While making an appointment on the phone - they asked if my cat needed any vaccines. I wasn't quite sure so I said no but my cat actually did need two shots. When I had to pay at the end, I asked if they could waive the visit fee since I got two vaccines but they declined saying that I had to say that in the beginning. So do ask about that if you're new and looking for a clinic for your fur baby. It'll save you $30 or more. I brought my cat in to have her teeth cleaned with possible teeth extractions. They called me after the cleaning to get approval to do a few teeth extractions and called to update me once finished. During the initial check up, I did not feel rushed by the staff or Dr. Knittel. That to me is very important! He answered my questions and explained thoroughly the terms I did not understand. I felt at ease that I was going to leave my cat in good hands. If you're looking for a place to take your pets, I definitely recommend Paradise Animal Hospital! -1 star because even though I was new they didn't waive the first visit fee. read more

I have a kitten that was attacked by a wild animal and crawled underneath a concrete storm runoff drain and sat there waiting to die I found it cracked slab open and took it to paradise animal hospital not only is the cats wounds closing up but it's also becoming more active and more responsive and that's all thanks to the people at Paradise animal hospital the veterinarian and the staff know exactly what you're doing and if it weren't for them I surely wouldn't have a kitten named Garfield right now they may be over priced BUT they offer extremely good medical care for animals. read more

I've never been here before until yesterday, rescued a tiny kitten and they were the only one I could find that took walk ins till 5pm, went and was seen right away. The vet was very nice, and explained everything he was going to do. The vet also waved the exam fee, which was awesome. I definitely recommend this vet to everyone. I have taken my two dogs here for two years. While traveling, I had to take my chocolate lab to the vet and had full xrays taken of her. I had emergency vet look at the same xrays along w another vet. All said the xrays look normal. Three weeks ago, sheeba started limping on her right front paw, so I took her to Dr. Knittel. He looked at the same xrays and said she has an aggressive form of bone cancer....all the other vets missed and actually apologized when I called them. I am happy with the services. Since sheebas cancer was aggressive, Dr Knittel gave her 30 days...she managed 16 days before the painmeds no longer worked, so I had to put her to sleep...she did live to be almost 15, amazing age for such a large breed! read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE! My family took our dog there her whole life from the day that we got her. We have taken her there every year for her yearly exam and for several years had told the doctor that she was having stomach pains. He repeatedly told us that she was just fat and needed to lose weight, all while doing his yearly examinations which should have included blood work but the only thing he told us was that she had an iron deficiency. Years after all of this we took her in for a dental cleaning and when she was under anesthesia on the table the doctor found a lump on her stomach. After years he finally took an xray and did blood work and found out that she had a tumor the size of a shitzu. She passed away less than 3 months later. She was a huge part of our family and is missed dearly. We paid everything that we were told that she needed but in the end they cared more about making money than they did about helping the animal and doing what they were being paid for. They are only coin-operated and will not perform the tests that they promise. They only care about the money and not your pet. Please STAY AWAY. DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANY REASON! read more

Firstly, every time we had an appointment they were running 1 hour to 1.5 hours late. Secondly, The staff consistently forgets to check in on what we needed the attention of the visit to focus on. Thirdly, We had our two cats go in for a simple teeth cleaning, which i called half way through the procedure asked how it was going and asked for the bill amount since my husband would be picking them up and wanted to make sure i gave him the money he needed to pay for it. They assured me all was well and that they were done and the cats were sleeping. and that the total would be $260. My husband shows up to get the cats, one of them was covered in her own blood, groggy and severely doped up. Turns out they removed several teeth without consulting us and our bill shot up to $700... I will never go back ever again. The money was relevant once i got home from work to see my poor cat covered and sticky in her blood, I had to hold her and wash her as she moaned. Over priced and unethical. We had seen this veterinarian for both of our dogs on previous occasions. We had all of our dogs vaccines and heart worm testing done by Paradise Animal hospital four months prior. This trip I took my dog to have a bump looked at on his chest and asked if I could get a refill prescription for Revolution (heart worm, flea, tick med). He looked at me and said I will have to charge your $8.50 to write the prescription. I could not believe that he actually said he was going to charge me to write a refill prescription for my pet that was a regular doggie patient. Also, while there he looked at my dogs teeth and said " looks like he really needs his teeth cleaned", I replied "He just had his teeth cleaned by you" so, he looked in the chart and said "Oh I see he just had his teeth cleaned four months ago some dogs need their teeth cleaned more often". It makes me wonder if they even cleaned his teeth. When I went to check out the bill was eighty three dollars, just for looking at a lump, looking at his teeth and telling me he apparently didn't do a good job and trying to charge me to write a refill rx. After I paid for my visit I told them that I would not be back and that I would be sending for all of my records. So disappointed with the lack of service. read more
