STAY FAR AWAY!!!!! Our beloved dog was left unattended in ICU at Bluepearl specialty/emergency pet hospital at 107-28 71st Rd, Forest Hills, NY, 11375. Due to the negligence of the staff, our pet passed away and as a result of this great loss, my daughter is undergoing severe stress, anxiety and depression, is emotionally unstable due to the depth of her grief. On 1/5/17 at 10am our dog (Benji, Yorkshire Terrier, 5 Yrs. 10 Mos) was taken to Bluepearl for an urgent endoscopy due to an esophageal foreign body, which the dog acquired the night of 1/4/17 after he stole a large drumstick. At that time, he was taken to the primary veterinarian, Dr. Mittal, at Lefferts Animal Hosp were x-ray was performed and Dr. Mittal advised my daughter to go to Bluepearl . Dr. Mittal also called to Bluepearl specialty/emergency pet hospital and requested that dog needs to be seeing immediately for endoscopy. On 1/5/17 at 10am- my daughter took dog to Bluepearl for urgent endoscopy and she begged staff to see Bengi right away as per referring doctor recommendation, but she was told that Bengi is "ok", his eyes are open and he can wait. On 1/ 5/17 around 1:30-2p Victoria spoke with Dr. Cistola l who performed an endoscopy and removed bone in pieces. A moderate amount of soft food was noted in the stomach, but no large piece of bone. Dr. Cistola assured Victoria that the procedure went well, that the dog is recovering from anesthesia, has low glucose and blood pressure, and recommended to leave dog overnight with IV to be "closely monitored". Around 6 pm on 1/ 5/ 17, my daughter called to find out how is the dog is doing, she spoke with nurse named Amanda who told her that the dog is doing much better, he had regurgitation with some food, is able to sit and walk a little bit, passed a bowel movement, and that they will try to give him some food around 11pm-12am to see how he can digest it. Around 12:45am of 1/6/17, Victoria called again to find out how is Benji is doing and to inquire if he ate any food, but after a pause, the ICU doctor, Dr. Braly Kelly stated: "Well we were just about to call you to tell you that Bengi passed." At this point, my daughter had a severe panic attack from the shock of what she just heard, and could not even speak. After I took care of Victoria to stabilize her condition, around 3am on 1/6/17 I called myself to speak to Dr. Braly and she did not have answers to my questions. Me: "How, when and why did it happen?" Dr. Braly: "We do not know what happened, we assume that dog regurgitated and fluid went into his lungs, or maybe the dog was dehydrated." Me: "Was anyone monitoring Benji? Was anyone by his side? Was the IV still attached to him? When was the last time his vital signs were checked? Why was resuscitation not performed? The paper Victoria signed specified that in case of death, the dog should be resuscitated." Dr. Braly: "No one witnessed the death, the nurse (Jine) was busy with another patient, the last time Vital signs were checked was at 6pm, IV line was disconnected, and it was too late to do CPR by the time the dog was discovered deceased." Me: "Does that mean that for over 6 hours (from 6p-12:45am until Victoria called) the dog was not monitored and checked at all?" Dr. Braly: "Benji was quietly resting, we assumed he was sleeping, and nurse (Jine) periodically was checking on him." Me: "What you mean she was periodically checking on him? When was the last time the nurse physically checked on him to see if he was breathing, if he had vomited, if he was still alive?" I did not receive an answer from Dr. Braly to these questions, as well as to the original question of how, when and why it happened. I was advised to speak to the manager (Steve) in the morning. On 1/6/17 around 1:40pm, Dr. Cistola called and basically stated the same things: "We do not know the exact reason or time the dog died. We assume that dog had passive regurgitation and fluid went into his lungs." On 1/6/17 at 4pm, my oldest daughter, my brother and I went to Bluepearl and spoke with the manager, Steve, who also could not answer our questions and refused to waive some payment (I was still charged for $2500), he stated "no" because procedure (endoscopy), anesthesia, and meds were used. Also, he advised us that if we want separate cremation of dog it will cost us $500.00 I requested copies of Benji's chart, according to the chart, the last documentation of vital signs was done at 6pm 1/5/17. Last progress note regarding regurgitation was documented at 7pm. Some nurse initials were added at 10pm (for IV), which is questionable because Dr. Braly told me that the IV was disconnected. On 1/9/17 I spoke with Dr. Rocha, who stated that he reviewed Benji's chart and did not find any evidence of negligence or inappropriate medical approach toward Benji. When questioned, he could not provide me with an answer to my inquiry as to whether Benji received any care or attention at the ICU after 6pm on 1/5 read more

Run out the door. You have got to see my astronomical bill from the 55th street hospital. I did not have the cash so, they give me this credit card with a $5,000 credit. I have to say I feel like I am the victim of PREDITOR LENDING bcuz after 6 mos. It jumps to 26% APR. At first I was quoted $2,000, then I was approved for this credit card for 5,000 and at that point I knew, they were going to charge me around $5,000. Sure nuff.. They stress the emergency and surgery must be done immediately. You can tell everyone is fully trained on what to say, like super friendly robots. So.. My 3 yr. old cat had a piece of rubber from a toy stuck in her stomach/intestines and had to have it removed. It took 1 hour to 1hr. 30 minutes from the time I left my cat at the hospital for surgery until the surgery was completed. Not long after I left the ultrasound was done, they informed me of the blockage. I felt pressured so I told them to proceed with the surgery. I received a call that my cat was waking up from the surgery and doing fine approximately 45 minutes later after I told them to proceed with surgery. Note, the actually surgery cost $888.50; the ultrasound cost $521.50. Why is my bill $4,770 ? I've had cats all my life and am only experienced with feline cancer surgeries. This was a simple popcorn procedure. Judge for yourselves, I'm posting my actual invoice. My advice, got to a regular neighborhood animal hospital. We've been to this facility several times and I totally disagree with most of the reviews. We got excellent care and the fees were in line with our regular vets. If your pet is precious to you and you want a fully equipped modern place that will be up to date on everything in vet care, this is the place to go. We had rescued a small bait puppy with a fractured skull and this place charged us around $350 for excellent emergency care, X-rays, up to date advice, a tele-surgical consult with the finest vets in NYC. Vet care is now in line with people care and if you love your pet or your pet has special needs, this is the place to go. One of the vets, the actual supervisor of all the Blue Pearl centers in NYC; they are nation wide, got on the floor with our dog and we all sat there and talked about what to do. At the time we went, the office visit was about $119. My regular vet charges about $55. This place has everything at its finger tips for animals in trouble. By the time my regular vet totals the fee, its almost as high at the Blue Pearl's and we do not have the luxury of a modern facility, modern trained doctors with access to the best of the best. Blue Pearl is a great place in my opinion but one has to be realistic about what pet care costs, value your pet's life, want to best of the best and be prepared to pay for it. I would return in a heart beat because we were treated quickly, compassionately, with quality care by vets that really cared and were "with us" in understanding that we are not rich; they worked with us to make sure we got answers as affordably as possible. It's 2015 folks, be reasonable, in a state of the art facility, do you expect a bargain or is your animal worth something substantial to you? You get what you pay for and we have returned several times when things were challenging for the puppy that was a victim of being used as bait in dog fighting. She's alive today in great part thanks to the caring, loving professional people at Blue Pearl. I do not work for Blue Pearl but I would love to....I am simply someone who has worked in people medicine for years, know vets have more training than MDs, I know that a fully equipped 24 hour facility has overhead and I am grateful that a place like this exists and employs caring, knowledgeable professionals. Two months ago, my 14-year-old beagle was diagnosed with lymphoma. My wife and I opted for palliative care and stayed closely in touch with our vet (Dr. Silverman, at VCG Astoria) during the past few weeks. Knowing that when the time came, intervention on our part would be necessary, we had looked into several options. And even though we had been to Blue Pearl once earlier last year for an ultrasound, and that went fine, we remained wary of the many negative reviews we found on this page. To be blunt, Blue Pearl was thought of as our last resort. Based on the experiences others have shared here, we expected price gouging, long waits, and insensitive staff, and that was obviously the furthest place from where we wanted our beloved Artie to be during his final hours. On the night of December 23rd, Artie took a bad turn. VCG offices were closed for Christmas weekend. An at-home euthanasia service we'd been in touch with was unavailable. Our options were limited. Blue Pearl being closest to us, we took the chance, and brought Artie there on Christmas Eve around 3:30pm. Intervening that day was the hardest decision we've ever had to make, and worrying about how it would all go down at Blue Pearl added so much to our anxiety. Well, I wouldn't have typed all of that if our experience was anywhere near as bad as reviews would've led us to worry it would be. When we arrived, we were seen immediately, and after waiting a bit, got a visit from an assistant, and explained Artie's situation as fully as we could. Not long after, we met Dr. Schreffler. We didn't know her for very long, but during our darkest hours as Artie's owners, including the very end, she took good care of us. We had already come to terms with the reality that we would not be bringing Artie home that night, but we were still told of other options (even if they didn't make sense), and we got every sense that the Dr. shared our concerns and supported our decision. There's not much else to say, but I wanted to write this review as a way of thanking Dr. Schreffler and the rest of the staff for being professional and compassionate that night. Saying goodbye to our Artie will be a difficult memory for a long time, but knowing he was in good hands when the time came will always bring us some small comfort. read more

Absolutly dreadful, money making conmen. Our cat was ill, with the same issues he's had before, so we know what was needed. ALL we were BOMBARDED with, was costs, how URGENT it was and that our cat would DIE if we didn't take their advise for $5000. We had gone to this BLUEPEARL people as it was a Sunday. They even started BARTERING and saying that they could do it cheaper, and then even offered us a credit card, NOT that the money was the issue. They wanted to keep our animal in for two days overnight, ALL quite unecessery and would have caused more harm that good with stress. Obviously we took our cat to our regular COMPETENT vet the following day where he was sorted out within half and hour for a couple of hundred dollars. Having spoken to our neighbours and friends in the area, we are told that this company is well known for inflating prices and "finding" issues that don't need medicitating. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE unless it's an absolute emergency. I obviously can't put the name, but a certain vet on 52nd street is a honest and not like theses charletons. A most upsetting day for me and my family and all basically a load of lies to make money. LITERALLY.I also saw the way they were handling our cat , roughly so he was crying.He never bites or scratches. I demanded to take him back bu they insisted he stayed with them and that he would die if he didn't. I kept insisting to the point where I was going to call the police. EVENETUALLY they let him go. VERY rude staff, some woman who just wanted to sell us a credit card, and a very who made the prices up then kept reducing them. They made the big mistake of giving (by me asking different people) for paperwork which shows their trickery. They should be closed down. I would HATE for anyone to go through this. My name is Joe Giunta, I brought my cat she was dying and as I entered the BP hospital I called out to the women at the front desk MY CAT IS DYING and one of the front desk women showed no concern, she got up from her chair in a so what your cat is dying attitude and took my cat to see the doctor, after Dr, Munos said my cat at to be put down and after my baby passed away, I was so shattered that when I approached the front desk the other front desk woman said how will you pay your bill now, I told her that I left all my money and my wallet at home because of my cats emergency condition, this woman had the COLD BLOODED NERVE to tell me if I did not pay my bill within two hours she was going to refer my name to the COLLECTION AGENCY! Usually, after a month or so if I did not pay my bill, I can see my name is sent to the collection agency, but not after two hours. this person in my opinion is HEARTLESS, COLD BLOODED, and has no conception of other people's feelings. I will NEVER go back to Blue Pearl Hospital again, this HORRIFIC incident took place on Sunday, May 22, 2022, between the hours of 8:00 PM to around 10:00 PM both these women are white females ranging around 30 years of age one had short blondish hair and the other had longer blondish hair, the one with the long hair was the one that I was mostly angry which was going to send my name to the collection agency. after reading the reviews on the internet with other people's experiences with Blue Pearl, it is no wonder why they have only 3-star raiding. I am writing this note shortly after we buried our little darling, Joey who was diagnosed less than three weeks ago with "leptospirosis", a potentially deadly infection that both city & country dogs can contract. Although we are all grief-stricken over the sudden & untimely departure of our youngest family member, who gave us nothing but joy, we are also forever grateful to the heroic, tireless dedication of the doctors (and, in particular, Dr Iacovetta) who gave Joey their super-human all to try to save him. Throughout our little darling's illness, they kept us posted daily of developments -- and the communications were all tactfully handled without fail, and we never felt rushed. When there was nothing more that could be done, even the manner in which we were informed of Joey's death was with heartfelt sensitivity that did not at all feel like a routine affair. The doctors and staff here understand that the illness of a beloved pet can be as big as an event as the sickness of a beloved child, brother or sister. Although the bills for Joey's treatment were huge (akin to a human's without health insurance), we never felt that the staff were out to get our dollars. On the contrary: many a regular doctor could take lessons from the vets here who will put their personal lives on hold for their life-saving mission and who, even at the time of defeat, never forget about the importance of trying to heal the bleeding in the hearts of the pets' guardians. No words can describe how much we've appreciated the work of everyone, doctors & staff at Beluepearl Vet and we will be grateful to them as long as we live. Subject: Urgent Complaint Regarding Recent Experience at Blue Pearl Dear Dr. Nelson, I wish to express my grievances regarding our recent experience at Blue Pearl, hoping it may help others avoid a similar situation. On February 14th, 2025, we brought our dog, Charlie, to your facility, feeling alarmed at his sudden lethargy. Upon arriving at around 4 AM, we were initially assisted by Patrick, who was empathetic and professional. However, we were then informed by a vet assistant named Melonie that there was no veterinarian available, resulting in a two-hour wait. Her responses to our inquiries about Charlie's condition were insensitively phrased and unhelpful. When the vet eventually examined Charlie, he revealed a serious condition: a previously undetected tumor on his spleen had burst, leading to internal bleeding. We sought a blood transfusion, quoting us initially at $3,000, only to later be told the cost would be $11,000 for the procedure, requiring a transfer to another hospital. We felt misled and pressured during this already emotional time as the costs escalated into the tens of thousands for potential surgery. Ultimately, we decided to leave and take Charlie to our primary vet. Unfortunately, it took 45 minutes to release him, which deprived us of precious moments with him before he passed away in my wife's arms en route. The overall experience was distressing and compounded our trauma during an already difficult time. I urge you to review your facility's protocols and staff training, as the level of care and compassion provided fell significantly short of expectations. I had my dog there after he was maimed by our neighbor's dog. Although it was expensive, you get what you pay for. We were given a high and low estimate, which was great planning. They offered us both ends, and Care Credit if needed for extra expense. Amazingly clean facility, well organized, the courteous and knowledgable staff was excellent. Racquel at the front desk was amazing, kind, accomodating and sweet. Sue the emergency nurse in the back, who was amazingly compassionate and answered all of our questions, while carrying on her treatments with the other pets, and Dr. Wolff who was as sweet as anything to us, keeping us updated on everything regularly. Very compassionate people. I know many will crab about high prices, but the care we were given was well worth it. They are not "out for the money" as many of these pathetic reviews read. Those apparently come from people who are angry and unhappy anyway. If you have a cyst on your dog, don't bring it to emergency! Granted, our bill was pricey, but the professionalism demonstrated by these people was absolutely priceless, and we took our dog home feeling as if the money was well spent with the care provided. This isn't your "mom and pop" clinic, this is the real thing. We hope to not have to go back, but if we do, we trust them with all of our pets, and believe this is the best place in existence! I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to share our experience with @bluepearlvet When our dog went into heart failure in June 2025, we were immediately presented with an itemized bill outlining costly treatments before we had a chance to process what was happening. There was no discussion of alternative options, such as simply keeping him in the oxygen tank for comfort. We explained that we could not afford a $4,000 bill for an echocardiogram, oxygen therapy, and several other miscellaneous charges--some of which could not even be clearly explained. Tragically, our beloved 14-year-old dog passed away at home a month later. When we called @bluepearlvet to inquire about cremation, we were quoted $600 and immediately pressured with upsell options and demands for immediate payment. There was no expression of sympathy or compassion for our loss; the entire interaction felt transactional and insensitive. In contrast, our experience with @InstaVet in Long Island City was the complete opposite. They welcomed us into a private room, allowed us to spend over 45 minutes saying goodbye, and even prepared a keepsake of our dog's hair in a beautiful floral tube. They told us not to worry about payment right away and encouraged us to take the time we needed to grieve. True compassion and empathy make all the difference during such a difficult time. My dog Brindle was brought in on Saturday, February 19th, 2022. He was in bad shape. He stopped eating, drinking and going to the bathroom. He could no longer stand on his legs. They worked him up and his kidneys were failing, it was touch and go. I admitted him hoping if there was a way to save him, everything I could do was done. The next day they called me and discovered he had Addison's disease. After some treatment his health returned rapidly and today, Monday, February 21st, he's back home and almost his old self. Brindle is truly blessed to have his life back and he's a loved member of the family. BluePearl has a great staff and is the perfect place to address critical health problems needing emergency care. They are available 24 hours a day which is helpful in emergencies. Doctors called me every day at the beginning and end of their shifts to give me a status update. Overall, it was a smooth process and I am glad I chose them to help Brindle. In the future, if Brindle needs critical care or surgery, BluePearl will be my first choice. read more

I'm extremely disappointed in Blue Pearl. I previously had a good experience however this last time was terrible. A little over a year ago I took my dog in for a leg injury. He was given medication which helped and in 4 days he was back to normal. This time he had a similar injury and I was charged $1,400 for x-rays, sedation and consultation. I was told my pup had a dislocated knee and will need surgery "in the future". He was released with NO medication because I couldn't afford to pay the $600 they demanded for blood tests. Then they tell me "you can bring him back for the surgery that will cost $5k!" Seriously! My puppy is in terrible pain and yelps if he walks more than 30 seconds. I wasted $1,400 for them to do x-rays! This place completely ripped me off and I will never return to Blue Pearl. I called the next day to speak with the doctor and was told a message would be left for him to call me back. I'm still waiting on that call. read more

If I had my way, they would be out of business. Their "vets" should not even be allowed to clean a horse's stable. All they want is money. They are a disgrace. RIP Little Joy P.S. Anyone who has had a problem with these monsters should contact the Better Business Bureau, and the NYSED Office of Professional Discipline. Was forced into writing a review for this place and setting up an account to illustrate how bad this place is. Went in with my pet for a check up and was astounded how little the doctor cared, all I saw was dollar signs in his eyes did not get his name but he appeared to be in his 40's. The amount charged for even the simplest things are at least three times as much as I paid for things in the past, I wond up at this location because it was convenient for me at the time. Not knowing about the pricing. I would seriously call in advance and ask roughly how much it is for any given test or surgery. And yes all Vets will give you the range of pricing over the phone before seeing you provided you at least know what is wrong with your pet. So if they tell you they do not give prices over the telephone it should be a red flag for you. read more

The place is very compassionate towards pet owners and the animals. The doctors and nurses are amazing! The team is great. The reason for my 3 star review was the amount of time it took to get seen. I arrived around 4pm and was led into a room upon arrival. A nurse didn't come into the room till about 4:50pm. The other nurses seemed baffled that nobody came in quick enough. The doctor didn't come into the room till about 5:30pm 30mins later after I was told she would be in shortly. Overall, the place has a great team but the wait time is what killed it for me. Luckily it wasn't anything to serious with my puppy but what if it really was and they took that amount of time to see my dog. read more

My dog had been bitten by my foster dog, but the next night I noticed a strange smell coming from the wound. My vet was closed since it was after hours, and I didn't want to wait in case of infection, so we took a ride to Blue Pearl. I was very impressed with the care my pup received. She needed stitches and 3 staples, so I was glad I went and didn't wait. The instructions were verbally explained and I received them in writing as well. Dr. Brett was very compassionate and took excellent care of my Sydney. I would definitely go back! read more

I feel like yelp keeps deleting my reviews, or puts them under the non recommended ones, ugh! This place really deserves a high start rating! They are there 24/7 and they are very professional and helpful. I have been there several times at very late hours, my dog always has an emergency when all the regular vets are closed .
