[[HIGHLIGHT]]I can't say enough about the front office staff who are extremely pleasant and helpful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I brought my 15 year old cat for a check up because he had been losing alot of weight and I needed to know why. I understood that he could be "difficult" to deal with, but I was shocked that I had to bring him back a second time and authorize sedation in order for blood to be drawn. Since I wasn't in the exam room, I don't know exactly how freaked out he was, but I was surprised, that after dosing him with gabapentin, he was still too "feisty". I mean, he's not feral, for gosh sakes! I've had him forever and he's a love. Oh well. Blood was drawn under sedation and all is well. Despite the drama, I DO recommend this veterinary practice. The good: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr. Ruth Lee is fantastic, compassionate, and great with all of my pets, and the staff is friendly and the waiting area and exam rooms are all clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bad: It's really hard to get your animal in for a surgery here, so they made me take my cats on two separate occasions to the VCG office in Middle Village (one elderly cat for a cancer surgery, later a kitten for a neuter surgery). The ugly: These greedy f*ckers decided that they would no longer give out scripts to get my cat's prescription diet food and my cats' and dog's preventative medicines from Chewy. I have to get it through them now, or not at all --it's cheaper through chewy, and I'm currently unemployed, and they're greedy little sh*ts, so f*ck that noise. If I can find a good vet within a reasonable distance, I'm switching. read more

VCG will not allow people in the exam room with your pets during visits. My dog is fearful of strangers and especially strangers touching him. I explained that in advance when booking the appointment. They didn't allow me a n the room and they came back after a few mins telling me they couldn't exam him because he wasn't cooperating. They gave me a Rx for trazadone (mild sedative) and told me to give it to him the next time prior to coming. They charged me for the visit but said they wouldn't charge me for the next one. I gave him the trazadone as prescribed but it didn't really do anything. I found out that it's not effective unless paired with Gabapentin which they didn't prescribe. I brought him back and again they wouldn't let me in the exam room and couldn't do the exam. They did try to do it out in the waiting area which is so odd. Why not just let me in a proper exam room? The waiting area isn't spacious. At that point Spots was overwhelmed and stressed and wouldn't stand still for an exam. The vet was more frustrated than understanding. This annoyed me because this cannot be the 1st fearful dog they've dealt with could it??! I also asked about a lepto vaccination and she said there is no vaccine for it but there's treatment if he gets it. That is 100% wrong!!! I would not recommend anyone go here. I have since gone to Juniper Valley Animal Hospital in Middle Village and highly recommend them and Dr. Mike. Facility is super clean, spacious and they allow you in the room with your pet. read more

VCG Forest hills is incredibly professional and personable. During COVID there is only by appointment pet drop-off service available (i.e. you drop off your dog. How it works is that you'll drop off your pet and the doctor will call you to discuss the any findings/feedback during the appointment. I do like how VCG FH adopted to modern methods of communication because in addition to calling/emailing, you can also text in order to make an appointment and ask any questions through any of those communication methods (i.e. breakdown of the cost for the visit). The veterinarian that my dog had was Dr. Hui and I liked that he did not try to sell me any unnecessary shots for my pup; he listed out all the options but ultimately let me choose what was best for my pup and his lifestyle. Clean and friendly staff. If your doggie gets a vaccine, expect a text later in the evening from their staff asking how your fur baby is feeling and if you notice any reaction. That's very nice of them. My fur baby is very fussy because he doesn't like to be away from me, but the tech always treats him with kindness and that makes all the difference. Regarding pricing - I'm always told before a vaccine or any other service how much the fee will be and the breakdown. So, if I'm not comfortable with the price I can just let them know before hand. read more

If last minute requests means calling at 8 am, getting a confirmation text at 2 pm and coming at 5:30 pm to pick up the prescription, then sure it was last minute. But really I posted the review because when my dog had a medical emergency, no one picked up during business hours, I left multiple message but no one even bother calling me back. I think this clinic's staff is unprofessional and obviously very vengeful when it comes to any negative reviews. (They are never wrong when you look at the response to other negative reviews). But honestly the lack of care for pets makes this a bad vet to go to. Wouldn't be surprised if they refuse to fill my dog's seizure medication while I'm trying to get an appointment at a new vet. I was recommended to come to this vet when I got my first puppy. It's about ten minutes away from where I live, convenient, and quick. Due to covid regulations, we haven't been allowed to go into the office with our pup to be examined. Due to that, I didn't have a great first experience with the first vet my pup was seen by. The vet techs were all very kind and respectful, which is what I'm grateful for. Sabrina, Jasmine, and Margaret are all very wonderful and listened carefully to all my descriptions of my pet's ailments. I left a message via telemedicine about my pup, and was concerned if his odd behaviors were an adverse reaction due to medication. I received a call back from Dr. Hui himself, the Medical Director at the Forest Hills location. I was very surprised that he was completely different than the first vet my pup was seen by. Dr. Hui is very knowledgeable, logical, and also did not dismiss my concerns. He was very patient in hearing me out, and answering all my inquiries. Needless to say, I haven't changed vets since. And it seems that my pup loves going to the vet, because he will bark to get inside, and then charge right into the clinic like he owned the place without even turning around to say 'bye' to me, when we dropped him off. Do call ahead and make an appointment though. The clinic gets booked very far out in advance. I would say that the telemedicine line could use some ETA improvement, but phone calls work much quicker. read more

I had very bad experience here with staff and had move to some place else. I would NOT recommend this place at all. They don't know what they are doing - in prep of my puppy's surgical they don't even know how many tubes of blood need to drawn out. After around 15-30min of my puppy's appointment, they call me to come back because they only drawn 2 tubes instead of 3 tubs. And told me that surgery can't happen if I don't turn around and provide another tube of blood. Not even sure if they really made mistake to drawn 2 tubes or mistakenly spilled or trashed or misplaced? These assumptions wouldn't make me surprised. Another incident was, I was at the front of the clinic before even they open, I had first appointment to drop my puppy off for the surgery - all the employees saw us waiting. And they turn off the phone during no business hour so couldn't even left voicemail ti check in and they let other people who came after us. Of course they were white. Do NOT fall for how diverse the clinic employees are. They don't care about Asian. They think they can do whatever they want and get away from it. Do NOT go this place to get treated like this. At that time, they just let all the animals ti be inside of their clinic and said it is covid rule by CDC. And I found out visiting other vet and it is NOT. I am re-writing a review becaue apparently, I cannot edit the previously written review of 3 stars. So here it goes... VGC Forest Hills gets 4.5 stars. Not getting 5 stars because they didn't call me back with the lab result that I was anxiously waiting for. And I left 2 messages and still no call back. Then Dr. Lee called 3 times more and I appreciate it. And a someone from the office called me late at night to make sure my cat was doing fine. So in my opinion, the initial poor service is canceled out but still, no call back was not cool. I think it is always good to give a benefit of doubt when you receive a poor service. Maybe they were too busy? Maybe the message was lost? I don't know this vet office at all. I had to make an emergency appointment for my cat that was clearly suffering from serious bacterial infection. I wouldn't go back for regular visits, as this office is not near me. This office just lost me as a client. If you bring your pets here and you get medication for them, please check the expiration date on the box. This place will print its own label and cover the actual expiration date on the box. I received a medication that expires this month, but the label printed by this office claimed it doesn't expire until February 2020. When I went back and asked them about it, they didn't have an explanation. They just quickly issued me a refund. It should be noted that they also didn't have replacement medication that wasn't expired. This is extremely unethical behavior. They want to make money on their expired medication so they just cover the expiration date and figure that no one will bother to look under the printed label. So now you have people on fixed incomes bringing their pets in and paying full price for expired medications. Disgusting behavior on the part of these vets. My old vet left Queens so we decided to come here. I didn't get a great feeling about it, but it was close by and it seemed OK. After several visits, I have mixed feelings about it. It's not terrible but it's not great, either. Our cat went into a uremic crisis not long after a checkup and none of the vets warned us that this could happen. We ended up rushing her to an animal hospital. She came home and then VCG told us to bring her in for her usual checkup as if nothing had happened. The vet repeated what the hospital had already told us (new to them, not to us!) and wanted to prescribe a medication that she was already taking! This despite my filling out the "pre-visit" form with a list of meds she was taking. I doubt many of them even read that form, so why bother having me fill it out? Fortunately the vet (Dr. Hui) caught his error and didn't charge me for a duplicate medication but that irked me. I also agree with the other reviewer who said, "they make a big deal about making sure nobody physically comes into the office because of Covid which is a great idea. Unfortunately the woman who was dealing with the clients kept coming to the door with her mask below her nose." I saw the same woman. Why do they allow her to wear that cheap cloth mask that keeps dipping beneath her nose? She seemed to sense my unease (I kept leaning far away from her to take back my credit card) and kept pushing the mask back up, only to have it drop again. The other thing is that they are a little obsessed with bloodwork, cultures and follow-up exams (you get charged each time, of course). You're barely done with one appointment and one exam before they recommend yet another culture, and another exam, and another bloodwork. If you refuse or hesitate, they use emotional manipulation to make you feel you aren't doing the best you can for your pet - if you refuse an exam that might catch some fatal disease because of your cheapness, well, that's on your conscience, buddy! (and yet all this so-called conscientiousness didn't prevent my cat's stay in the ER) The other thing that makes me hesitate is how often they recommend Blue Pearl. That place has mixed reviews at best and yet they are always pushing it on you (they even hand you a brochure from that place). I wouldn't be surprised if they were financially connected. read more

Have been going here for routine check ups for a few years now. Today was a follow up appointment for abnormal labs. Showed up for my appointment on time, waited 10 minutes and then was told my appointment had been cancelled because I didn't confirm....even though I replied to a text this morning! I did not cancel the appointment, simply -- according to them -- did not come confirm. (I keep all my appointments. Me making an appointment IS my confirmation). The front desk worker did not even ask if I wanted to reschedule.....she just showed me the door! They refused to see my pet, leaving me to wonder: 1) do they have my pet's best interest at heart. 2) how necessary was this follow up anyway if it's so easily discarded? So they just emailed me that they won't accept my 7 month old teacup Yorkie and one year old Maltipoo because of the secretary that works there was so unprofessional. Because I mentioned to the other secretary that one of the ladies that work there is so unprofessional due to the fact that in one day I called her and every time I tried to lock in an appointment she will tell me that she will call me back. I called 5 times and every time she will tell me she will call me right Back because the other line was ringing. She never called me back not even one time. So I called the next day to speak to the manager about this incident and now today I just got an email telling me I am not allowed to bring my poor two dogs . For me to look someplace else. How awful is that. The appointment is for this week and now they don't want to see my dogs because of this incident with an unprofessional secretary. It is 5:10 PM as I write this and I have been waiting since 1:30 for a call from Dr. Hue who I was told would call me within a half hour. I have called them twice since then and still I have not heard from the doctor regarding my cat's bloodwork. If I try to refuse, they tell me it's mandatory and won't give him his vaccine without the other examination, etc. My co-workers' vet bills are always less than mine. One star for a relatively nice doctor. But the young women up at the desk and the so called "Office Manager" are running a scam, in my opinion. They flately refused to give my cat treatment for a test she took only three days ago. Three days ago, the near $900.00 test showed my cat showed she had excessive fecal matter backed up inside her. She no longer goes to the bathroom. That was Monday afternoon. Now on Thursday afternoon, the young women at the front desk told me for my cat to get her bowels flushed out, I will have to pay for another test first just like the one I already paid for this past Monday. I told the woman, no, and that is bad business and just trying to exploit owners of sick pets. Then the office manager came out and falsely acused me of insulting the other woman by saying that to her. She then kept talking loudly over top of me putting on a performance in the waiting area. Apparently, the customer is supposed to be a victim and exploited in this place and shut up about it, otherwise they are labled. I told office manager then and I will tell her now......how all of them in there treat people, WILL come back around onto them: You WILL reap what you sow! I am home now, and my cat is still very sick. Altogether, this week, I paid that pet clinic on or about $1000.00 and do not uet have a proper diagnosis. Today, that office manager told me to never come back and go take my cat someplace else for treatment. I had to force them to give her an antibiotic shot. They way I was being treated by them, I do not know what shot they gave my cat. They charged $109.24 for a shot of something. My cat is here still very sick worse than when I brought her there to that VetCare Forest Hills Clinic. Never go to this place. It is bad. To top it off, they know that my otjer cat died less than a month ago, yet they treat me and my second cat like this!! No compassion and see owner as someone they can exploit for as much money as they can get with threat and refusal tactics to not treat pet. Scammers act this way. read more

I adopted an adult cat over the summer, Lily, and brought her to this vet in October. They were really fantastic- excellent and thorough care, reasonable pricing, and just overall wonderful. They updated her vaccinations and checked out her luxating patella, which is a condition I was aware of when I adopted her- the advice they gave me was full of good info. It really helped me feel secure in her care. What I really want to talk about is the phone call I just had though. I had some concerns and questions about Lily's leg and the specialist she was referred to- I left a message on Monday asking for a call back. Well, her primary vet, Dr. Hui, called me back personally. He spoke with me for a good 20 minutes, answered all my questions, and addressed every concern I had, giving me multiple options and his opinions on the situation. It's amazing that he took the time out of his schedule to do this, he clearly cares a great deal about all of the animals he sees. If you are looking for a vet, especially if your animal has sensitive needs, look no further. They will take care of you here. read more

Took him to another vet who was able to figure out the issue. This chain is Extremely expensive due to their policy of upselling to patients. My other vet in Manhattan is 200$ less to run bloodwork. They have a corporate mindset and profit comes before the animals. Said some strange things about my cat needing to be checked for parasites because he's older, even though he's an Indoor cat. Very disappointed with this office. I accompanying my father with his dog for their visit. He is elderly and disabled. I communicated to the office we were running a few minutes late due to traffic and the receptionist responded that they have a strict 10 minute late policy after which they will not see us. I understand the policy as I work in healthcare as well however a little empathy and understanding would have gone a long way in this situation. They oddly charged me more for my older cats blood work. I didn't know there was a special blood work for senior cats. I also paid $400 to simply be given an ear spray and blood work. It feels like this place cares about taking your money over actually helping your fur child. ALSO. The receptionist seems like she hates her job and her tone makes it a miserable experience to talk to her. [We've previously been to VCG in Little Neck 4 years ago, while we were visiting family in NYC. Had a wonderful experience - the practice had just opened up. The owner mentioned they wanted to branch out to multiple practices. While it's nice to see that they've fulfilled their mission, the quality of care is a totally different matter.] The upselling, specifically the instilling of fear via 'potential' medical/health scenarios, is despicable. When I bring my child to the pediatrician, the doctor isn't interested in selling me x-rays, meds, or other procedures that are not required to treat my child. At VCG, they will do just that to your pet. We came in for a prescription for our dog's allergies (very routine and our vet in Chicago was very straightforward about it), and we left having paid exorbitantly for an unnecessary "age-based" blood test, too-pricey allergy prescription, and an awful taste in our mouth. The vet (younger-looking Asian guy) tried to upsell us on every. single. thing. And then so graciously "waived" the $150 fee to shave off a bit of our dog's fur to view the allergy hotspot ---- ummmm... how the heck are you supposed to see it if you don't shave the fur off. That is NOT something to charge for. Our vet in Chicago never did this in the years we have been in for allergy-related issues. Will never return. All thumbs down. read more

Took our pet here for the first time, my husband made the appointment because I was taking to long to find a vet. Experience wasn't bad. We were met at the door and not allowed in due to covid restrictions. They asked us what concerns we had, signed an acknowledgment form, and he was taken back to be seen. The person that met us at the door and asked the questions was attentive, and thorough in explaining that they would give us a call in ten minutes or so (after examining him). The DVM called and we again explained his recent issue and she was also very thorough in discussing our options. The only thing that bothered me was that she called after examining him but when we mentioned a red area behind his right arm, she said that she would check again because she didn't see it during his exam. It's was a pretty large area for a 6 pound dog. Other than that everything went well. They were quick and very efficient. His blood work testing came back before we picked him up which was super fast. It took a day or two with his prior vet. I think it's safe to say that this has become our pets' medical care provider. I was recommended by a neighbor and caregiver of my 14 year old Standard Poodle who also was a vet tech with the practice. I needed a vet around the corner that we could get to by foot, now that my fur baby is a super senior! My primary vet is an hour away by car. From the very beginning, I was impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of the administrative staff as well as the vet techs at Veterinary Care Group. Dr. Dombroski was thorough and spent a considerable amount of time in the examination room with my dog as well as answering my questions. She has been particularly diligent in her follow-up-- from the initial exam, rechecks, performing diagnostics through to reviewing test results with me in-person. I've been taking my dog Chico to this clinic for about 5 years or so, and I've always had an ok experience. However, after the pet clinic started with the new management, the experience went from ok to amazing! The staff are super welcoming and friendly and Dr. Tseng is great! He is very precise on how he explains things and at the same time comforting. Disclaimer: I know one of the vets, personally. This is a review for the vet, staff, and the clinic. I went to college with Dr. Joseph (Joey) Tsang and am proud to say that I know someone who has dedicated his life to the care and well-being of the animals he encounters. When my husband and I got our dog, Link, we knew we wanted Joey to be his vet. He treats every pet with compassion, as if they were his own -- You can see it in the way he greets them, holds them, talks to them. He is connected with his purpose, pet patients and the larger animal loving community, and that's reflected in the staff at VCG as well. Every interaction from the front desk/receptionists to the vet techs has been warm and professional. It puts us (new pet owners) at ease to know that this team is looking out for our dog. They take the extra time to answer our questions, look into things that we might be concerned about and educate us on things to do/look out for so that we can be even better pet parents. The level of detail and care they take in their patients extends to the facility as well. The facilities are always spotless and welcoming -- coffee/tea/cookies are a nice plus. Pre and Post-visit experiences are thoughtful as well, with email/phone reminders before our visits and follow-ups after. The careful consideration for every point of interaction is a reflection of how seriously they take their practice. And although we're traveling from LI to go to this clinic, it's all worth it for this experience, peace of mind, and community. Last Friday January 29th, I had a very bad experience with an obnoxious and unprofessional new manager. I've usually had good experiences there and I like the veterinarians but this was truly bad. My dog had diarrhea and called to refill the prescription. I wanted to have his temperature checked to be certain there was nothing else wrong with him. The manager said "no, we won't do that ". I asked if this was the usually the case and she replied "no you must have an appointment for the doctor to see him". I said that's ridiulous, I'm 2 blocks away and can come in right away. The earliest time they had was next week. I will no longer use this veterinarian. read more

Not a fan. Every visit costs more. Vet docs change with every visit as well. No one seems to care. I miss the old vets before 'veterinary care group' took over, suddenly. Those guys actually cared- our pets felt it too. Now... Not being in exam room with our pets- 2 years after pandemic - is really ridiculous. I'd really like to see the care my cats are given. Or are they?? Because my same cat was found to have an ear thing. But prior to this visit- no problems- I saw oil in his ears... Hmmmmmmmmmmm. read more

The first Vet I meet in Nov and Dec was absolutely wonderful. She along with her assistant were a dynamic duo that was a pleasure to watch. They truly treated my puppy with patience and TLC. I actually wish I could remember her name so I could attend her practice where ever it is. I met the new staff and Vet, "mehhh." One distinct difference was their response to my dog screaming. When they made him scream, the Vet responded to my dog, I didn't do anything. Whereas the Dynamic Duo (coined here first), if my puppy screamed or cried they would investigate to see if something was tender or if he'd been accidentally nicked. They seem to go above and beyond for me and my precious pup. I am not saying the new staff and vet are bad, but when comparing to the originals there is something lacking. It is like comparing cobi beef against angus beef, both delicious but one CLEARLY supersedes the other. Since my visit with the new staff was short, I will most likely update my review once it is time for his annual review. read more

This was our cat's first visit to the vet and I could not have been more impressed. The service of the Veterinary Care Group was impeccable. The safety and the care put into social distancing as well was very much appreciated. Thank you also to Dr. Hui who was extensive and detailed in his follow up.
