I was recommended him my girl's old vet in Queens who didn't do visits in Manhattan and I cannot begin to say how lucky we are to have found him. I have been to so many vets over the years with my fur babies, some who look at you like a checkbook, to the point of telling me "maybe you should go elsewhere" when her nerves got the best of her (I'm looking at you Animal Medical Center) and others who put the needs of the animal above all else. He not only put my Leia's needs front and center but his care and compassion for the pet's companions, I can't say we're owners, was above and beyond. He gave my girl five more good years of life. Dealt with all my stupid questions and emails with patience and care. And he was here to gently ease her on her way. Anyone who needs a vet to take care of their furbaby. Please reach out to him. This…read morewas my first time visiting AMC, and the lobby was packed, but the woman that checked me in was kind and warm, which really helps when you are stressed about a sick pet. My cat was triaged by a tech pretty quickly, and then it didn't take too long to see the Dr. after that. Dr. Sheehan was knowledgable, clear, and to the point, which I appreciated. She gave me my options, explained costs, and answered any questions I had. For as busy as they were, she didn't make me feel rushed or pressured at all. I went with all the diagnostics she recommended, since I think it's important to rule things out, especially if it could save me from a future trip and also potentially provide more answers (plus cost was not a concern for me.) I was there from about 9:00 pm to 1:00 am on a busy Monday night. At discharge, someone from the back returned my cat to me in the wrong carrier. I found this concerning since both cats involved were there for non-wellness visits, which can create a serious risk for transmitting contagious illnesses. Plus, cats are sensitive to smells, and being placed in a stranger's carrier can cause unnecessary additional stress. I believe this was just an isolated incident, as I'm sure they have some system in place, so I will not fault them for this mistake. My cat has been on antibiotics since being seen 2 days ago, and he's already doing great and back to his regular 'ole self. I will finish out the full 7-day course and likely do a follow-up visit. I want to add that I used to work at an emergency/speciality animal hospital in another state, and all the specialists highly recommended AMC as the only way to go if I need an emergency visit in NYC. I'll be back if I need another ER visit (but fingers crossed I don't).

I took my dog to AMC's emergency room early morning on Feb 27, 2026 because he was coughing and his breathing was very rapid and my cardiologist's office was closed. The first (sales) man told me the testing/treatment would be $10-12K. I refused. He gave up on me.The second (sales) man came in and raised it to $20K. Both were insistent that I make a decision quickly, saying my dog might otherwise die overnight. I turned him down as well. In my heart, I felt it was best to take my dog home and not ply him with more drugs and tests. AMC didn't provide any care except for an oxygen tent, and a whole lot of meds, yet charged me $1,800. Mostly AMC just argued with me. This is not my first experience with AMC. On an earlier emergency visit, the same thing happened. The (sales) woman quoted around $3K and when I balked, she brought the cost down significantly. My dog did pass away several hours after I brought him home Feb 27. My loss is unbelievably painful but I know I did the right thing by him -- let him go peacefully at home without the poking and prodding and meds that he would have to endure at AMC overnight. He was not going to live much longer anyway. At that point, I just let nature takes its course and avoided being hoodwinked by robber bandits. Then there was the recent case of a woman I know who was taking her dog to AMC for heart disease treatment. At the last appointment, the vet (salesman) said he had noticed a gallbladder issue. He said the dog would need surgery immediately -- that day -- and quoted her an astounding $26,000. She agreed. What was she to do? The surgery was performed, and her dog died 3 hours later. It is important that these stories of AMC's horrendous pressure and overcharging get around. And you call AMC "non-profit"? I will do everything I can to spread the word. You have no honor. I intensely dislike AMC. 2025: Insane markups for meds that you can easily order online or have at home if just presented with the options. +$249% markup in my case!!!!

I currently have two dogs who I've never brought to a vet other than Dr. Herman. As every pet parent knows, the importance of finding an excellent and trustworthy vet cannot be overstated. I implicitly trust Dr. Herman and the staff at York Vet Center and cannot imagine bringing my beloved four-legged children anywhere else. But enough about my feelings - I'm not the patient after all! Every one of my animals has been so happy on every visit to York Vet. I don't understand how that happened with the three cats who had previously been nightmares during vet visits - especially when two of them had to have dental surgery at York Vet - but I don't need to understand it to appreciate it. Animals know when they're in a safe and nurturing environment, and I'm fairly certain my two pups love York Vet even more than I do. I very highly recommend this business.

I could have been fine with that because i do love the care they give to the animals however today i had the worst experience after communicating with someone named Kat who is a csr manager there. First of all, if you want to identify as customer service rep/manager, you are expected to behave in a way that advocates for treating any client with the right demeanor. Not this one. During the several instances we have been there , everyone was kind and polite. This woman was very rude, condescending and assumed i called to request that they alter my pet's records so that i can dispute my claim with the insurance. There was no such thing i mentioned in my emails so it was very disrespectful of her to imply that. Good luck with filing claims if you ever encounter such unprofessional people to assist you. Considering this is an expensive clinic, one would expect better treatment at least.

I love Dr. Cardin, she's young but very well-read and up to date on the literature, which is great -- it's nice to have experienced vets but they also get into ruts and not necessarily keep up with new findings. She's experienced enough to have confidence and young enough to be innovative, so I find that ideal! (My wife says she also indulges my crazy dog mom energy. Anyway.) Cardin and all of the staff here are always warm and caring. They genuinely love the animals and get to know the frequent fliers well. (Audra the receptionist is the absolute best, but every vet tech and receptionist here has been helpful and friendly.) We've taken both dogs and cats here with good experiences. CareClub has a lot of mixed reviews on the internet, and with good reason, but it's saved us a LOT of money over time on visit fees and made care easier to afford by splitting the yearly cost in more manageable monthly chunks instead of biyearly massive bills. Yes, VCA is one of those corporate chains, which isn't great. The cost of nearly everything à la carte is higher here than it would be at an independent neighborhood vet, and they don't have as much wiggle room to take things off the bill. Often I have price checked diagnostics between here and other places, including mail order urine tests, and Park East has always been accommodating when I opted to complete a diagnostic elsewhere for cost reasons and bring the results back later. All told, I've found it cheaper and more accessible to use CareClub here and occasionally use cheaper diagnostics elsewhere. Like all small practices, they get logjams and you can get delays in being seen, especially in the afternoons. Morning appointments have the least delays. I've never had problems getting appointments on short notice. They are now doing routine surgeries (spays and dental cleanings) but with a wait list. For LGBT folks, this has always been a friendly place. I've found some vets are better than others at treating queer pet owners as normal (shout out to that one place that kept referring to my wife as my mother...), and we have never had a problem here. tldr This is a very busy but compassionate small practice that can be cost-effective as long as you price check things and use CareClub.
