I am newish to the SD area and have been itching for more art and to fix some art I have that is not what I need it to be. I have been on the search for a new artist for some time and have gotten many referrals and been reviewing and researching artists from downtown to North County on south and out to East county; which brought me to Blueprint. They did not have the most reviews; however if you read the stellar reviews, look at work that Rodrigo has done, learn his history and go out to Instagram and look at his work there, you will understand my decision to go with him. I have only had a consultation, but from the moment I walked into the shop I was impressed. I stopped by impromptu after dinner to see if I could make an appointment. Right away I noticed that this is a very clean shop. There was a friendly gentleman at the front desk area who greeted me as I walked in and after I explained why I was there he pointed out Rodrigo to me and let me know it would be a couple of minutes. I appreciated him getting me started. Rodrigo was in the middle of another consultation which he was attentive too and took his time, I like that. When it was my turn he introduced himself, shook my hand and gave me his full attention. He has an easy going presence about him and I felt comfortable immediately. He looked at my art and was very enthusiastic and realistic about what could and could not be done. He had ideas on how to keep it original, yet assure that it would transfer from paper to skin and would be a lifetime peice. I have had other art that did not transfer from paper to skin as I wanted them to and have bled out, now they are needing fixing or cover up, so this was a big plus in my book and confirmed that my choice to go with Rodrigo is the right one. So... I have not even had work done yet, but am so excited to get started and will update with what I know are amazing peices after we get started. Do your research, it is permanent. I went on a quest to find the perfect artist for my 3rd tattoo. I searched Pacific Beach, El Cajon and downtown. I interviewed tattoo shop owners. Let's just say I did my homework. Rodrigo grew up as a street artist in Southeast San Diego. He honed his skilled over many years. After returning from living in Las Vegas, he opened Blueprint Tattoo. His shop is remarkable clean. I met many of his clients visiting his shop many times and looking at his work. Then I gave him my design. He re-drew my idea, and made many improvements. When it was time for him to push ink into my skin, he spent 45 minutes sterilizing the work space and paid attention to every detail, He looked at each needle under a magnifying loop to make sure they were perfect. Once the stage was set with several tattoo guns to get the right texture and fill, he started his work. He is an amazing artist and would stop and look at his work and start again... going for perfection. He has a gentle hand (far less painful than my last tattoos), not drawing any blood and the healing is going so much better. When I thought he was done, he kept reviewing his work and suggested additional color and shading. When he finished he stood over my piece with a huge smile. That is an artist that truly cares about his work. I am stoked how well his work came out and love my tattoo. Rodrigo is a family many, living in Santee and devoted to his wife, kids and his art. My son went to Rodrigo to talk about getting his first tattoo. He was informed that he needed to pay the full price up front and come back another day for the tattoo. I was telling him Normally you pay a deposit or pay after services are rendered. I called Rodrigo to clarify what was said and not only did he agree to that all he did was talk about money. He said if it's painful and he has to put down the needle then that will cost more. Then he said the that you pay in advance and if you change your mind. he will also keep that money. Then he proceeded to tell me that if he has to leave at 1.30 so he is leaving no matter what. Even if the tattoo is not finished. The grand finally was when he had enough nerve to tell me that my phone call and all my questions were basically costing him his time and money. I tried to explain that we were nervous and wanted information. I immediately told my son we will never go to this money hungry person that only cares about money. Go to anyone else. I hope one day Rodrigo realizes that customer service can get you a lot more business. read more

Rodrigo was very courteous and professional took my idea and improved on it and made it much better than my original vision and design idea Was very patient and knowledgeable with my 101 questions and didn't seem bothered or annoyed having to reexplain somethings twice to me.
