Great experience for my first tattoo, highly recommend Lions Den! Walked in on a Sunday when they first opened at 12, was checked in and waited in the shared lobby area. Cool spot where the owner Mike also features his other business the Good Company Golf Club (will have to check out their sim another time). About 15 minutes later I was led back by my artist Zhu who was patient with the tweaks I wanted to make and communicated clearly the process. After 45 minutes my small piece was done and she also explained the after care instructions thoroughly. From the very first consultation he was super friendly and patient, he really took his time explaining everything to me as he mapped the layout for my sleeve and never once made our sessions feel rushed. I loved our collaboration of ideas, but truly, all credit to him for designing and bringing the sleeve of my dreams to life. It's even more amazing than I could have imagined - his attention to detail and care put into every line and dot is so impressive. Been to Lions den multiple times. My boyfriend and I have both been tattooed by Joel on multiple occasions. Every time is amazing and he does outstanding work. The vibe is always on point and he is very precise with his work. He did a cover up on a tattoo that was done by another artist out of stage and it scarred. You can't even tell it was a cover up. Worst tattoo of my life they new it was my first tattoo so they scammed me for 1500 for 1 session and messed the whole tattoo up and didn't clean it before putting the sleeves on so it got really infected and had to do a second 8hr season a month and a half later to fix it. wasn't even the original concept I contacted them about to just turned it to a grim reaper where she just dumped ink because she couldn't do a straight line. Since my visit in June I have returned twice for more ink. The owner, very chill guy, super easy to talk to. All of the artists I interacted with, also very kind and helpful. Which brings me to my artist, Henry. Henry has mad skills. His creativity, artwork and work ethic are top notch. Whether you're born and raised here, or just passing through, I would highly recommend Lion's Den for your next work of art. What can I say other than I love this place especially their new location and I've been working with Ryan for 2 years now! It all started in September of 2023, I went in for my book from Hocus Pocus and it was so great and he was absolutely amazing and we had time to get 2 more! Every time there was a flash event I would try and get there so I can have Ryan add on to my collection of Halloween/ Spooky/Creepy ideas that I had! I couldn't ask for more! I would come in with ideas and he would just add on to them to a point that it was way better than I could've imagined. The conversations we would have would just make time fly by that I didn't want to leave. The vibes of the shop mixed with the other artists makes it feel like you are with friends and family. I can be the most introverted person but individuals there brought out the extrovert in me. Ryan has done everything on my right arm (besides one tattoo) and some on my left leg, that we are now working on my left arm. He has even helped me touch up my first tattoo I got almost 20 years ago that it looks brand new! I look forward to continuing my work with Ryan and coming up with more of the Spooky vibes but he does so many others as well, so if you are looking for an artist I can't recommend him enough!! My wife and I plan to get tattoos in Georgia the week before, with the perfect rainy day on our last day in San Diego, it felt the right time to finally cross it off our list. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and professional. The studio itself was spotless, which immediately put me at ease. I had the pleasure of working with Zhu, who was fantastic. She listened to my ideas and offered helpful suggestions to make my vision even better. The first tattoo was a beautiful fine-line piece as Zhu took her time to ensure every detail was perfect. The second tattoo was especially meaningful- it was a tracing of my mom's handwriting (she passed away in March 2024) with a message she always gave me. Zhu was so patient with me throughout the process as I was a bit nervous about the pain. Thanks to some numbing cream I had applied and some extra numbing spray Zhu used I felt very little discomfort. This was one of the best tattoo experiences I've had in 30 years of getting tattoos. Being unhappy with my tattoo I booked/ put a deposit down to have more flowers added and asked for Some shading to help blend the tattoo By the same artist He had some stencils of 2 flowers to add, one was large for the front/ inside of my arm I did not love the placement but was told any higher is "a hard spot to tattoo" I let that go But he didn't even finish the stencil he made and placed on me. When asked him to add the leaf and expressed I wasn't loving it I was told AGIAN "it's a hard spot to tattoo" I reached out to the shop owner who at first seemed to want to fix it... But responded rude and snarky pretty much saying I was wrong. No pricing was discussed. No paper work was signed. And then the tattoo artist blocked me on Instagram.
