Chef Ronnie opened early for us since we were passing through and were looking for some good ribs on a Sunday afternoon on or way back to Little Rock. Very rustic Authentic Blues Cafe with lots of charm and a warm welcome from Ronnie and his wife Betty. The ribs and catfish were excellent as well as the baked beans, coleslaw and fried okra! Murals on the side of the building record a interesting history from a local music teacher who would often sit in with some of the greats from the blues world when they needed an extra or missing instrument. read more

Went here for lunch trying to find some soul food in the heart of Blues Country. I had the crawfish hush puppies as an appetizer. They were hot. And very good. I ordered the catfish plate. I was a little disappointed with sides they offered, fries and mayo slaw. I was really hoping for some collards, beans and a slice of onion. Prices are low and food is amazing Three of us ate and the bill was less than fifteen dollars. The blackened bologna sandwich is an almost inch thick slice of meat with all the fixings you want. The fried green tomatoes are great. My son had barbecue ribs and said they were also good. The baked beans were really good. Service was good and fast. The atmosphere is Delta Blues. What a great experience! Started the day at the BB King Museum and ended up at the Blues Corner Cafe. Could not have felt more welcome as Ronnie greeted us at the door. Our group was the only one in the place so after he prepared our food we asked Ronnie to sit with us and we were treated to a local history lesson. The only thing that topped the experience was the food. Best potato salad I've had since my mother passed away. And the ribs were great! We visited Ronnie and Betty's fabulous cafe on a drive up from New Orleans through the Delta to Memphis. Walking in the door, it was clear that we were in an authentic place - no frills, just articles from the local newspaper on the walls with stories of various sports teams from Gentry High School. A pool table dominated the space. Betty took our order, and shortly, her husband, Ronnie, came in. We ordered a rib platter - as good as any you'll find in Memphis - and when it arrived, we chatted with Ronnie and Betty for the next half hour. They are family friends of BB King, and filled us in on the role the Blues have played in the Delta, and in Indianola in particular. We will never forget this conversation, or this warm and lovely couple. Don't miss this place! read more

While on our blues trail driving tour, we stopped to take a look at the amazing, vibrant mural painted on the side of the building. Up walks Ronnie Ward, one of the owners, and has a chat with us after a warm handshake. He invited us into the restaurant that he and wife, Betty own. This place has a lot of character- a neighborhood joint with several southern menu items. Although we heard about Ronnie's homemade pulled pork, we opted for the fried boloney sandwich, a double order of friend green tomatoes, and sweet potato fries. The bonus, Betty insisted that we have everything OUR way and it went like this: *Thick slab of boloney, blackened, with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo on toasted bread- goodness, I haven't had it "that way" in a long time and it was delicious! *Super-thick cuts of sweet potato fries (she cuts them upon ordering) were absolutely piled on the plate. Seriously, that sweet potato must have been as big as a football to start with! Hot and crispy on the outside, and pillow soft on the inside. *A PLATE full of fried green tomatoes that had just the right amount of seasoned cornmeal crust. Hot! right out of the pan, I sprinkled a little salt and we were going to town on those 'maters! Betty is a lovely person that is very attentive and truly wants you to have your food YOUR way. Just let her know. The food is delicious, fresh, and made just like your mom would prepare it. Brings back great memories. Folks, if you have read my other reviews, I adore mom and pop restaurants. Small business owners need customers to survive, thrive, and flourish. Blues Corner Cafe is basic inside, not flashy, but it still has character, a good vibe, and a pile of good food for very little money. Ms. Betty is something else!! I had the bologna sandwich with rip tips and it was great. The atmosphere was fun and everyone there was super friendly. I stayed for a while and talked to some of the regulars that were there. Mr. Scott and Ms. Theresa were lively and fun to talk to. I will definitely be back to check them out. read more

Ms. Betty and her husband are the sweetest and the food here is traditional soul food/BBQ. Bologna sandwiches and fried pork chops! They serve beer too! Comfy couches and mismatched chairs! A lot of history in this place. read more

Just had a great meal served with love and care by Miss Betty, the owner of this classic off the beaten path place. After spending several hours at the BB King Museum we walked over to see Miss Betty. Wow! Rib tips, slaw, potato salad, cat fish, and a fresh green salad between my wife and I. We were early on a Friday evening so we had Miss Betty all to ourselves. She is a shining example of an American small business person. She and her husband wear all the hats, work very hard, and love what they do. Delicious food prepared by a wonderful person. Doesn't get any better than that.
