Heard we had to try Ajax, the diner, not the soap. We stopped in for lunch before heading to Nashville airport to come home. The diner is about what you'd expect inside. Old, kitschy and full of decor. We sat in a booth an were greeted by a waitress promptly for drink orders. Cokes and waters. They deliver the coke in a neat Ajax cup. I ordered the chicken fried steak. Wife ordered the chicken and dumplings and step son ordered catfish. Everything arrived very quickly and everything was hot and southern deliciousness, except the corn bread. The corn bread was dry and not very good at all. Pretty sure it was yesterday's leftover bread or someone needs to pull it 5 minutes sooner from the oven. Unanimous at the table, Everton e had garb corn bread. No big deal. The chicken fried steak was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Gravy was great and the red beans and rice side was awesome. All great flavors. Wife loved the chicken and dumplings, good flavor and tender chicken. She got a side of sweet potato casserole and loved it. I had a bite and it was delicious for certain. Step son had the fried catfish, he is not a big seafood eater but he absolutely loves the catfish. I had a big piece and it was cooked perfectly and tasted great as well. The staff was outstanding, the service was great and the food was excellent sans the cornbread. Ajax is a neat little diner in the heart of Oxford. It's a little pricey as is everything in this college town, but it was worth the visit.

Great place. Pretty much a foodie paradise. We stepped into town to partake in the Mississippi…read moreRiver marathon. Tonight's special was lobster Mac n Cheese. A bit too heavy for tomorrows race. I went with their salmon. The place was fully booked but had a high top bar table which did not require a reservation. Thank goodness we came early. Our hostess was helpful took separate checks and all our orders came out perfect. The only hiccup was it took about an hour for the food to come out. With all the orders I think the kitchen was swamped a little. Would have been nice to have some nuts or something to stave off the hunger but when the food arrived it was quickly scarfed down. No drinks but water for me, the salmon was perfect. This place has a rustic feel to it. Bar seating and tables. Classic brick wall interior. Open ambiance. Parking lot next door was convenient and free. They also have a to go delivery out back well marked in the parking lot.

I guess it was obvious we weren't from Greenville. Seems like everyone in MS is friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend The Grill. My husband said he would give the grill 5 stars. My server, Amy, was very nice, gave good service, and recommended the country ham. The country ham is amazing. It's salt-cured ham, not the sweet kind. I ate very last piece. Eggs were standard. I also got grits, because "hey, they have grits!" (I'm not from the south so it's always a novelty for me). They were really nice, with a clean subtle flavor - way better than bland grits I've had at diners in the past. The highlight of my meal was the golden waffle, though! It's really nicely flavored with vanilla and there's got to be some almond extract in it too - cooked really well and crisp on the outside. I didn't expect to get such a favorful waffle at a chain restaurant, honestly. So, Huddle House has own me over. If I was passing though again, I'd go here. Only thing that keeps them from having 5 stars is that my table was sticky, and so was my menu.

Country/cured ham, grits, and a very tasty waffle. May not look fantastic, but they all had great flavored hiding in there.
