But, our captain made a special trip to the lighthouse for us and got to see it from the water. The sunsetting was beautiful and the sound was quiet and peaceful. We're not on boats very often so it was a nice evening. Plus, the boat is a smaller 12 person vessel that made it a more adventurous boat ride than the bigger boats that some of the other companies use.

Being it is a holiday we get there early and have breakfast within walking distance so we can get parking. Must have been our lucky day as we got the best parking space in the lot. We were instructed to arrive 45 minutes before the tour. Since we were there and checked in early as was the other group of six we left actually a few minutes early. The weather was perfect and we had on plenty of sunscreen. JD led the boats to different spots on the island so that we were able to see Dolphins. I was surprised that in the middle of the day that we were able to see so many. Pinky made the ride fun - interacting with the children, and educated us all about how to protect our oceans. The boat ride was an hour and fifteen minutes. The perfect amount of time for young children. The boat is comfortable and holds approximately 20 to 25 people. Once Nina was found, she stayed in character the entire time. Even when the evil Professor Al G tried to kidnap her. Nina explained how to protect the ocean and encouraged questions from children and adults too. When I was scheduling this excursion, I thought it was a little pricey, but after the experience was over (and watching how much fun my daughter had) I changed my mind and realized it was worth every penny! We walked around a bit until one of the benches in the harbor opened up. The family stayed there while I went to figure out where to get onto the boat. This gave me the opportunity to take some pictures in the harbor. When we boarded the boat, we were guided to a table on the lower deck which was air conditioned. The sun was blazing through the window and we unfortunately did not have a shade that we could pull down like there were at some of the other tables. We made the best of it. Our server was very friendly. He explained that he was working to meet people and to see what he could learn. By the end of the trip, he exchanged information with my son. The meal was surprisingly good. I was skeptical and thought that it might be bland because it was mass produced. Every dish was prepared well and had good flavor. Everyone in my party truly enjoyed their meals. The sights are tremendous. We saw a few dolphins while the boat was underway. The sunset was breathtaking. I definitely recommend this experience.

BUT, the 9 am cruise to Savannah is my friends and my favorite cruise. I wish it was every day of the week but I believe it is just 2 days a week. It is a great way to see the inter-coastal water ways, you have 4 hours to visit Savannah, get a great lunch and a pleasant ride back to HHI in time for dinner on the island. They also offer tickets on board for the Old Town trolley in Savannah if you prefer that to walking-we have all already done that at other times when we've road tripped to Savannah. But that is nice for visitors new to Savannah to see the sights and hear the history plus you can get on and get off at different places which is nice. I have also taken friends on the afternoon Dolphin cruise which they loved. The best time is on Saturday in the summer, I believe, since less busy with visitors leaving and arriving and they are not thinking about cruises. The captains really search for different pods of dolphins while engaging with their guests.

It was served buffet style with fried chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, plus fruit. It wasn't bad, but it was all pretty lukewarm and just didn't leave much of an impression. That said, I don't think people are booking this for the food anyway. You're booking it for the views, the boat, and the experience. We had fun, enjoyed the ride, and I'm glad we did it.

We have been going to Hilton Head Island at least every other year for the past 35 years. One of the activities we always did was a dolphin cruise which, was pretty much the same every year but sometimes we would see some different creatures (e.g., flying fish, manatees, sting/manta rays jumping out of the water, sea turtles, etc.). We always went on one of the larger boats that usually hold 50+ people and are quite slow as well as being about 10' above the water. We thought this was great, until..... About 10 years ago, we thought we would try one of the more intimate dolphin adventures on one of the smaller boats that were generally more expensive but it was something different. I am a very "frugal" person but I am all about value and HOLY CRAP, was this adventure on the smaller boat SO MUCH BETTER. Not only are they smaller and only hold at most (6) people, but you are LITERALLY ON THE WATER just a couple feat above the ocean. SO, when dolphins come up to the boat, you could actually reach out and touch them (NOT ALLOWED THOUGH). ALSO, being a smaller, more maneuverable and MUCH FASTER boat, you cover a LOT more area. And if there is something interesting that is radioed to the captain, you can get there quickly (and this happens often). Speaking of boat captains, all the guys are AWESOME. Very fun, very personable and knowledgeable about the area, various islands, all the creatures that inhabit the island area and they are only a few feet away so there is no problem posing a question (unlike the larger boats where you would be lucky to even locate a knowledgeable crew member). The tours last at least 1 hour and 45 minutes but often times will go up to 2 hours. The private boat tour is based on a PER BOAT price for 1-6 people so you can share the boat with others to reduce the cost. Check for specials during the year as we were lucky to book our tour a couple of days after listing their "off season" special of $200 per private boat (for 1-6 people, i.e, one price, so not a per person price). Even so, the regular price is only $269. This has become BY FAR our favorite activity whenever we visit the island. PS--make sure to tip your captain well as every one we have had has been TOTALLY AWESOME. read more

Yesterday we surprised our son for his 9th birthday with a 3 hour shark fishing tour with dolphin discoveries. Our friend had used them and recommended them so I was excited to check them out. The booking part was so easy and the people were so sweet. We arrived at the dock to be texted by the captain telling us where to meet him. He welcomed us and brought us to our boat. All 3 of our kids were provided with proper life vests and they even had a cooler on board filled with ice ready for us. Capt Damon was awesome and very patient with our 3 young kids who were eager to see and do everything. As soon as we started we saw several dolphins nearby which was an exciting way to start our day. Capt Damon took us to a spot he was familiar with and handled all the bait and casting the lines out and next thing we knew we reeled in a stingray, catfish, baby shark and an insanely big red drum fish which was a completely unexpected catch but so awesome. We managed to go to 2 different fishing locations and even stopped at a beach area for a few minutes to collect shells before heading back. On our way back we had a surprise visit from a dolphin who was literally swimming after the boat in our wake. The kids were screaming with excitement. It was the funnest boating experience I think we've all had and it made my sons birthday one to remember. We are so thankful for Capt Damon and Dolphin discoveries for a fun morning out on the water fishing. We will definitely be coming back to use them again and suggest you check them out too. read more

We just went on a private dolphin tour with Captain Craig. First off I want to mention that they called us the day of our originally scheduled cruise and advised us that weather conditions were poor and our cruise would be limited to just the creek area but they also offered us a choice of rescheduling for another day for a more pleasant experience. We took them up on their flexibility and rescheduled for a couple days later based on the weather forecast and are so glad we did. We had an amazing time with Captain Craig at the helm and saw many dolphins, birds and even a manta ray jumping out of the water. He was courteous, professional, knowledgeable about the area and environment and very entertaining. It was a cruise we'll never forget and would ask for him again should we come back and book again in the future. read more

Captain Craig is awesome!! He is super patient, kind, funny, and experienced. We went to pick up shells first - there were so many to pick from!!! And then Captain Craig took us to watch the dolphins: we saw a bunch including mommy and baby dolphins and that was a wonder experience!! We saw at least 6-8 dolphins who were right by our side and we could even hear them breathing!!! Then Captain Craig took us finishing. it's the kids' first time fishing: with Craig's coaching, both of my kids caught 3 fishes, including 2 black drums!!! We all had such wonderful time and great experience!! Oh btw he also took beautiful photos for our family with gorgeous views in front of the light house! HHI is truly a hidden gem and Captain Craig made it all worth it!! read more

We had an amazing time on our dolphin tour with Captain Craig! We did the 7am tour so the weather was perfect. From the moment we stepped on the boat, he made us feel so welcome. My daughter was a little nervous at first, but Captain Craig's sense of humor and kind nature helped her relax and enjoy the experience. Before long, she was laughing and asking him to go faster! He even was kind enough to give her a few shark teeth. We were lucky enough to see several dolphins -- and one even swam right up next to the boat, which was such a magical moment. We loved it so much we booked another trip the next day! Day 1: We saw strand feeding dolphins, found shark teeth and tons of shells--truly unforgettable. Day 2: Fishing trip! We enjoyed the 2 hour Dolphin Discovery tour with Heath yesterday. It was a beautiful, sunny day, with our party of four on the small, but very safe boat. We were able to cruise up into areas that the bigger boat couldn't and saw many different species of bird, beautiful homes, and of course dolphins. We just had a fabulous dolphin sunset cruise with Captain Paul. Captain Paul was a fantastic skipper and did a great job giving our party of 6 a wonderful tour of the inlet and nearby waterways. We saw dolphins galore on the tour with many sightings taking place at 10 feet or less. The sunset views over the low country were worth every penny. Within 30 min of heading out we were hooking up with the Bull Red's non stop for two hours until we were too tired to reel anymore in. After that we headed back in and caught our limit on trout within an hour before calling it a wrap. This trip did not disappoint and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a charter to go with "Off the Hook Charters".

By 7:40 he netted more bait then we could use. Off into the Atlantic we went for the adventure. Once anchored, within 10 minutes, we had our first bites - but we couldn't get them reeled in. Then it got exciting. Over the next hour and a half we caught FIVE SHARKS - a HAMMERHEAD, BONNETHEAD, BLACK TIP and 2 BLACK NOSE. We were able to bring 4 of them into the boat for a picture before we threw them back. Our 21-year-old daughter got the trophy for the day as she reeled in a 5 foot long BLACK TIP SHARK that was well over the boat limited - WAY to big to handle (well over 100 lbs) so Captain Ben cut the hook out while leaning next to the boat and let him go. Thank you to Captain Ben and Off the Hook Fishing Charters for making one of the best memories ever!

He is very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about sea life and the history of Hilton Head. I highly recommend this fun boat tour and we will definitely do it again during our next visit to HHI!

Little late posting this but went out with chip and his friend in the beginning of August what a…read morelife changing experience! Captain Chip was super helpful as it was my first time fishing on the ocean. He taught me how to properly reel in a fish/shark. Gave me tons of tips and was very personable! Went shark fishing with Chip and we ended up catching 2 stingrays 1 35 pound black tip shark and a monster 12ft 600+ pound hammerhead shark!!! Had such a great time and highly recommend to go out fishing with Chip!! One of the best experiences of my life!!!
