Not sure what's with the bad reviews. This store has a huge selection of firearms to choose from. That's the reason we all go there let's be honest. On my recent visit the staff was super kind and all wanted to pet my dog. Some staff had treats ready. Even though they were in the process of moving the entire ammo department, they still helped me find what I needed. Their website has a massive selection so if it's not in the store they can get it shipped there. Any store that allows me to bring my dog inside always gets a better review. That lets me know if the employees are going to be nice or not right when I enter. Will return again soon! read more

I wanted to sell a small weapon and I was told that sportsman warehouse Carson City would buy certain guns. I called them. I spoke with Greg who told me that my gun qualify and to bring it in. If I had sold it privately, I would have to go with the buyer for registered gun dealer, and pay for the transfer fee. But I figured out how much I would get for a private sale less fees on background check it would be much better for me to deal with sportsman's warehouse. When I arrived, Greg was there he checked out a gun which was practically brand new and had all the original paperwork, he gave me a top line price, which was more than what I expected, and the processor was very quick. Paul H And Chris took care of all the paperwork and within about 35 minutes I was out the door with cash in hand. I was advised if I had done a trade-in they would've been able to give me more money but quite frankly I'm very happy with what they offered. Sportsman's warehouse has a huge inventory of every kind of weapons and ammunition you could ever imagine. They are all so knowledgeable. They know their stuff. This store has everything from weapons to clothing to camping goods hunting goods even down to the best snacks you can imagine. While I'm at it, Debbie, who I believe is the software supervisor and handles all the clothes and shoes and things like that is a wonderful customer service person. The minute you walk in the door someone says hello, and they are extremely helpful. I highly recommend them. read more

It started of decent and then declined. They have one guy that can do background checks and for some reason he goes on vacation when I buy something. The last one I bought took about 4 days from my usual 1/2 day to 1 day waitI. forgave and tried again, I'm at 9 days and counting waiting for this current background check. Oh, and my favorite employee is quitting. Update- today is still 9th day waiting. I called them, and they told me he'll be back Thursday making the wait 11 days total. So 11+ days to see if a background check clears. Feels like I'm in California. read more

My wife and I recently became Nevada Residents and are interested in purchasing a couple of handguns for self defense. We have always been into hunting with shotguns but are wanting to carry something that is better for protection. When my wife and I arrived at the gun counter yesterday we were greeted by Ethan who is a Hunting Associate here. He was very helpful, informative and professional. We handled and were educated about the Glock 43X and Glock 48, which my wife and I actually like a lot. I bought a buffer tube and lower parts kit from this company.After over a week it was out for delivery. then Sportsmens warehouse had my items shipped back to them. Then had the audacity to say the reason the customer items were shipped back. is because "I changed my mind" This is the furthest thing from the truth. geissele parts are hard to find. So they had my items shipped back to their warehouse to sell to somebody else higher on their priority list. one time and one time only customer. dealing with this experience has been a nightmare. I needed to kill some time yesterday while waiting for a nearby Office Depot order to be filled. So I bought a couple scones at Paul Schat's Bakery on the other side of this strip shopping mall, and then wandered into Sportsman's Warehouse on the other side to look around. They were running a promotion that when I checked out, they popped a green balloon, which gave me a 15% discount. I was hoping for more, but beggars can't be choosers. The Store itself seems to serve its Nevada Sportsperson clientele well, especially in the areas of camping, fishing, and hunting (including archery). I don't do any of these things regularly, but I managed to come out with some hiking socks, a container made for tackle, but better for me as a pill container, an all-weather pencil, and a few ideas for my next visit. After all, Gayle and I are visiting her Mom at least every month, and wandering around Carson (sometimes on her behalf) is part of the deal. read more

From tons of fishing gear to tons of hunting and shooting gear. Camping stuff, optics, kayaks and canoes, clothing. You name it, they've got it. Paid for background check. Waited 4 weeks for a call. Sportman's warehouse calls me saying they have the state on the other line because they recorded my license with too many digits. I give them my correct DL # and they say they'll be in touch. A week later I get a call saying I can come pick up my gun. I show up and give the old dude behind the counter my license. He comes back after a few minutes and says my check is unresolved. So they can't sell me the gun. I checked state law and that's still a background check pass and I'm allowed to make the purchase. And again the Sportsman's warehouse employee recorded my DL# not me. The guy said I would have to pay $25 again and start all over. What a crock of shit. Update: got my ccw with no issues. Why is the state so inept at background checks when I could get my ccw without a hitch? Luckily I won't need to go through the states ridiculous background check system anymore with my ccw. read more

I picked up a few things, at check out I typed my debit code and machine said approved. Then they tell me it did not approve my transaction and I need to swipe again. So I check my banking app. The transaction shows it went thru. However they kept insisting I run my card again so that I could leave with my items. The whole time I'm thinking this is NOT ok. Manager never came out, only told me over the phone that I had to charge again to lkeave with my purchase. It is very unsettling feeling to feel stuck in a place. So I called my bank, transaction Definitely went thru. I will never ever shop here again because of the horrible experience and they lost my trust. I felt I did my part proving my purchase, i gave them the bank phone # and the visa confirmation # of the charge. I nearly called the police. A rant about carson sportsman's warehousein carson.. i was in the store around 615 pm on Saturday. .i saw a fish finder on sale at 99 bucks .i went up to buy it and the sales clerk says no its 119 or something like that.. i tell him its posted at 99..he says he cant do anything about it..i ask to speak to the manager.. he tells me the manager cant do anything about it.. i say again may i please speak to the manager...he calls someone and says nothing can be done.. again i ask to speak to the manger and i tell him i will be by the fish finders so i can show him... .he THEN TELLS ME I HAVE TO WAIT AT CUSTOMER SERVICE. i say nope i will wait at the fish finders thank you.. he then says "if you dont wait here i will have you removed from my store" i have spent thousands in that store.. finally a nice manager shows up and gives me the price and i let him.know what happened..he says he will deal with it.. ih and by the way when i asked the clerk what his name was he said its none of my business. His name is hunter.. i am outraged that this happened .. i have never had any problems in your store..i was treated with total disrespect when i was being nice . read more

Great place to go for your outdoor needs. If you into camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, shooting, etc. They will have stuff for you here. There products are of good quality and they also have so great high quality items as well. Also if you just looking for some place to just walk around this is a nice place for that. Their clothing option are good and the have a great selection of hiking shoes as well. I bought my last hiking shoes from Sportsman Warehouse and man they are awesome. I bought a pair of Merrell Shoes for hiking and these are the best shoes I have ever worn for hiking. I didn't even have to break them in. I just bought them from the store and off I went. I have never had booths/shoes I didn't have to break in before going out for a hike. There is plenty of park at this location and the staff of friendly. They have a great selection of weapons as well too. I like just going in to check them out. I always have to keep myself from buying them because it's like a kid in a candy factory when I'm in the gun section. I just want it all haha. Love it. I was going to spend close to a $1000 outfitting my new bow. I had collected an arrow rest, arrows, and some miscellaneous tools. I was planning on purchasing a new release as well as a new target. The only issue I was having were the sights. They were locked on the pegs on the wall. My wife found a woman who was willing to unlock one but not the other three I was wanting to compare. She told us she would get someone from hunting to help us. She paged someone to the department we were in and after waiting for close to 20 minutes my wife approached the cashier who got on the phone with someone. She got off the phone and told us if we wanted help with archery we would have to come back tomorrow. Needless to say I will be spending my money somewhere else. I wish I could give zero stars. We visited the Carson City store today and were having a great time looking at the items and buying a couple hundred bucks worth of goodies. Things fell apart when we tried to buy our licenses. The cashier struggled with the Nevada website and took several tries and help from other cashiers just to update our address and sell us a fishing license. Then we had them log into the California license portal and entered our change of address which also took several tries but they could not change it then we asked them for our 2019 hunting license (my husband has a lifetime license). We were told by all that they had no option to provide that and that we had to get that online. It's possible they misunderstood but we already have the lifetime license we just wanted to get the current year issued. I called CDFW and they verified that all the cashier needed to do was to put the license in the cart and it would issue at no charge. We then asked for the Federal Duck stamp and were issued an E-stamp that is only good for 45 days, not the actual stamp (apparently the stamp will be mailed). We were told by all the cashiers at this point that they do not carry the stamp and we can only get it at the post office! We've been buying at our sporting goods outlets for 40 years! Online search shows we can get it at several retailers. If this is true then why doesn't SW also sell these? OMG! Looking at my receipt I see I was overcharged for a clearance item too! Now I have to go back. I'd rather go to the dentist! I gave them 2 stars since I liked the selection of stuff. read more

I have bought several firearms over the years from this store. In general most transactions went smoothly with the exception of having to listen to (know it all) employees talk about things they don't understand. Last month my wife bought a new Browning A5 12 gauge... after making 2 or 3 trips to the store she was finally able to bring it home! Upon inspecting it I found the trademark gold trigger appeared scratched and worn, I also found the choke tube and barrel were extremely dirty. I have owned and shot shotguns, rifles, handguns for over 30yrs and in my opinion the gun looked used. We brought the gun back and were told that Browning would not warranty the trigger's finish, we were also told we could not return the shotgun. After expressing our displeasure we took the "used" $1700 shotgun home and called Browning. Upon speaking with them we were told that based off of the condition of the gun Browning felt it had likely been over handled by Sportsman's staff and possibly taken out and used. Browning indicated they "WOULD" warranty the finish and instructed us to follow up to get the gun repaired. Shortly after hanging up we received a phone call from Sportsman's saying they had decided to order a replacement A5. Approximately a week later we were told the gun had arrived and we needed to bring the damaged one in to exchange for the replacement. We made the trip back and met "Ethan" at the gun counter. We told him why we were there and asked to speak with one of the two managers... after playing 20 questions about what was wrong with the gun Ethan decided to tell us in a roundabout way that he didn't care for Browning and he would never buy one of their products. My wife promptly responded to his rude comments with "probably because you couldn't afford one" which caused a gentleman standing next to us to laugh out loud. While this transpired I couldn't help to notice the massive Browning sign behind the counter and the only question that popped in my head was if Sportsman's or their employees have such a outwardly negative opinion of Browning, why do they sell Browning firearms? Ethan announced that he was going to stock shelves (as if anyone cared) and promptly disappeared and was thankfully unseen for the remainder of our visit. The manager came, showed us the replacement A5 which appeared to be NEW and undamaged, then took the A5 that we brought back and placed it behind the counter, he then told my wife that she couldn't take the replacement A5 until after completing a second background check... the manager explained that because the first gun was being exchanged it would be a return, he would refund the purchase price and then upon completion of the second background check we would need to come back and buy the replacement A5. He then proceeded to try to give my wife gift cards totalling the purchase price. My wife told him that if she wasn't leaving the store with a shotgun he could refund the purchase amount to her credit card. The manager did what she asked, she completed a second (2 week) background application and we left. 8 days later, after 4 trips to Sportsman's and still no word on the shotgun we decided enough was enough, we called Cabela's and bought the A5 from them! We have decided we will let Sportsman's keep the $25 background fee as well as both the returned and the replacement A5's. After this nightmare I have decided I will go to Cabela's, Carson Armory or Scheels for any of my firearm/hunting needs. read more

This is the most non-community oriented, non-supportive franchise/ store I have ever seen. Hunter and outdoors man preach gun safety until they are blue in the face, day in and day out, god knows I do. Today our local gun range was closed due to unsafe ricochets (which of course is a huge bummer) at the adjacent landfill. This specific Sportsman Warehouse, instead of reaching out and finding out the facts opted to blast the decision on their local Facebook page calling it a "loss" and "disservice". Unfortunately it would be a tremendous "disservice" to the citizens of Carson City, gun owners, and shooting enthusiasts if the City didn't take proper precautions to protect its citizens, don't you think? I for one will no longer be buying any of my hunting, fishing, or shooting supplies at this sad pathetic excuse for a store again. I can also promise you that I will be taking many customers with me as we all shop at the same time for the same trips whether it be shooting, fishing, or hunting trips. For anyone else that may read this, take your hard earned money elsewhere and spend it at establishments that does care about its community and the safety of its community as Sportsman's is only in this industry for the money, which I can understand however a little bit of community support and perhaps education would be nice, but instead they choose to care less about the community they reside in or your safety for that matter, I don't know about you but that doesn't make me want to provide one penny to this establishment. There lack of caring or compassion is also shown through the pathetic excuse of what they call customer service. Its damn near impossible to get any help in that damn store, never mind the fact that many people that walk into that store (including myself) spend thousands of dollars annually, well I can tell you that I will be taking my money else where. I'm curious what cooperate would think of the lack of Community Support and piss poor customer service, I would ask the Store Manager however every time I have tried to contact the Store Manager they are conveniently unavailable (I have tried on numerous occasions). I guess we shall find out..... Moral of the story, spend your time and money elsewhere, as Sportsman's Warehouse in Carson City Nevada doesn't care about you. read more

As a woman, I went into Sportsmens to see if they had a certain pistol I was wanting to buy and check on the price. The fellow behind the counter, this tall guy was looking and acting like King Olympus. Arms crossed and eyeing everyone in his region. I had to ask him if he had this certain gun in stock. Nope. Can you get one? We don't directly order from them and we get our new shipment next week and there may be some then. Can you tell me the price when you do have them in stock? Nope. So much for comparison shopping. One can wonder why ordering online has its benefits. Very brusk and and not welcoming to a customer. But maybe I'm just a nobody worthy of his customer service. Great service, i bought a shock collar for my dog and the lady who helped me was really helpful. I purchased the Garmin collar which was on sale for $129.99. Got it home, charged it and tested it on my dog and it wasn't enough to cause my dog to flinch. I tried it on myself and it was administering a shock, but my dog literally winked at me every time i zapped him. I took it back that day and they gave me a full refund. Well, I gave this place a positive review a few years ago and a couple weeks ago I came Into the store looking for a firearm I saw online, they had it for a descent price. I showed the clerk on my phone, and he said no, they didn't have any in stock. I was looking for a Glock 19x. I asked him if he knew when and if they where going to get any in, he shook his head no. Now, instead of shaking his head no, he should of said, I can possibly order you one and we can take care of you. No, I didn't even get that. To say their customer service was great no, it was blah. Instead, of making my purchase there, I went to wild Bills, and I bought the gun I wanted there, and spent more money, on extras and walked out a happy Customer. Sportsman's, is hit and miss. Some days are great and others, are like why, did I waste my time.. I know I won't try to purchase another firearm from sportsman's again. Wild Bills is my go to spot.. they have a better selection and more inventory of everything, when it comes to guns and ammo than Sportsmans... read more

Sent me all the way to Reno to go pick up a ten dollar part that they informed me they didn't have anymore when I arrived even though they said they would place it on hold. The staff suffers from discontinuity and a lack of communication skills. Instead of trying to fix the problem they preferred to talk about who's fault it was, which was rather pointless from my perspective. One of many great examples how the retail industry is dying off to the internet. Computers seem to do a better job then them in both knowledge base and ability to get me what I need. I've been in this store many times, for many different reasons, and haven't left unhappy yet! Ray (archery dept) is awesome! He knows his stuff, is extremely patient and has excellent customer service skills. The guys behind the gun counter are pretty cool as well. For the most part, everybody that I've dealt with has seemed to know what they're talking about and have been very helpful. Prices are decent and inventory is usually very good. It's nice to see the a good supply of ammo and firearms here in Carson City. Driving to Reno was getting old. Keep up the good customer service guys! read more

I will never shop at this store again. I ordered and paid for a new revolver online at a good price. But then I went to the store to pick it up. It took me 3 hours to get out of the store with my purchase. And the delay wasn't with my background check, which only took 15 minutes. The rest of the time: watched the the manager talk to non-buying customers and then walk away, and waiting my turn at least 6 times. One of the sales guys was working his butt off answering questions and making sales, which I know is important. The sales guy I had didn't seem to have much experience with someone buying a firearm and had to ask the other sales guy what to do. When the dust settled, I was walked over to customer service where I went through a bunch of my time with an inexperienced sales woman recording information for Sportsman"s, no one else. I had purchased another item a month before and did not have to walk over to customer service. Finally, I was asked to pay for my pre-paid revolver. read more

Absolutely done with this company!!! I'm so irritated right now. My first experience, I order and online gift card to put in a birthday card. After 24 hours I still haven't received the email gift card and the party is in a few hours. I call to find out what is going on. "It takes up to 72 hours to receive your email gift card after purchase". Are you kidding me!? 3 days for an e-gift card!? So I decide to give them another chance. I received a coupon for $10 off my order if I order online. I place my order and get an email saying the item is in stock and will be ready today. I drive 45 minutes to get to their store and go to Customer Service to pick up. They can't find the order. The lady is holding the cup in her hand saying they are trying to get the paperwork. A half an hour later a guy comes up to me and asks if he can see the email. He goes "Oh. Ok. The order is not ready for pick up yet." At this point I am extremely frustrated. I ask "I can't just pick up the cup she is holding?" He says no their system is down and there is nothing they can do. So, I can see my cup in her hand, I have the order and payment confirmation number on my phone, but I cannot have it because their system is down!? I tell them just to refund because I am not driving all the way back for that cup. He goes to talk to a manager and comes back with you will have to call Customer Service we can't do that in store. Decided to buy a pistol from Sportsman's Warehouse in Carson City. Completed all paperwork and it was submitted for approval. After 3 days I called and was told that they would call me when it was approved. A week later I called and was told the same thing. A month later I called and spoke to a representative of Sportsman's Warehouse who called the store in Carson City and was told that they had not heard anything. The representative from Sportsman's Warehouse told me that the employees were rude to her. After speaking with her I had her call the store manager who personally went and checked my paperwork out. The store manager then said the paperwork had cleared and that they had called me 2 weeks ago. L have pulled my phone records and the call was never made to my phone nor was an email sent. The prices here are decent for your buy. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable in their department, with tips and tricks for fishing and good areas and what not. Plus, if you have the receipt, most items are exchangeable. So that helps when you break 2 fishing poles in one month. :/ I could spend all day just looking around this store :D read more

I went there to purchase a gun and the whole gun department didn't have a single clue what was going on. I then started to talk with the manager and the manager treated me and my family like we had no idea about guns (which I do). The manager kept telling us false information which I knew was false because I did my research with other sportsman's stores. Once we decided to leave, the manager who is supposed to set an example for employees and show good customer service proceeded with a back hand slap gesture to my brother. The manager has done a terrible job training the gun department employees. The manager needs to change ASAP is they don't want to lose any customers. But right now I can say the Carson city store has lost my money and am taking it to the Reno store because they have been so helpful compared to Carson City store. Reno was able to help me with my Gunn request that Carson City said they weren't able to do. AVOID CARSON CITY and take your service to Reno. read more

Customer service at this store has really gone down hill fast. There are never any managers available to assist cashiers when they have issue (which is frequently one customer after another) and the help they hire are neither knowledgeable about items in the store nor care about customer service. I spend a lot of money here because it is the local store, but when cashiers can't figure out how to run the cash register or solve basic issues, when they spend more time gossiping with their coworkers about non-work issues (in front of customers no less!) and there is a long line of customers waiting to check out it is a clear sign that the store is under bad management. Reno is just up the road and there are more options and better deals so it looks like I will be taking more of my business to Reno in the future. What a shame. read more
