Cute place! It's both a butchery and a sandwich shop. And, the sandwiches are quite good! I had the burger (no bun), with limited ingredients, and paring it down really let me focus on the burger. It was perfectly prepared, juicy and tender, seasoned well. Bluffside is small, but not lacking vibes. It's casual, modern, the staff is friendly and eager to please too. They sell a lot of local products, which I love, plus they make some take home meals to snag for a quick dinner, like pot pies or lasagna. "OUT-standing!", with that emphasis, was my answer when the nice guy behind the counter who helped my husband and me when we came in asked how the sandwich was as I started to leave. "But also a dilemma", I said, "because this is the kind of place I want everyone to know about but also I don't want to tell anyone about so it can be my little secret place." The three guys in line nodded as in "yep". Ta dum. WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL: Pride of ownership shined in every detail of the space and It seemed mostly locals or local'ish (that is we live 25 minutes away but drove to eat here after reading an interview with the owners) audience in ages from maybe 18 months to 80 years old and all ages in between. A couple of local women were waiting on their take away order when we arrived and I said I wished this was in our town and they laughed with one wagging her finger at me as she said "Don't you even TRY to get them to move." So that's what I don't want to see lost if "everyone" knows about it. The nice people, locals, everyone is welcome here feeling. That is why I am only telling you, on the privacy of Yelp, if you promise to be nice person and appreciative customer when you go. :-) Any new business benefits from word of mouth from one happy customer to others but part of me wants be sure this is "nice people only". As I recall the interview details, the couple that owns this retired from jobs in another state and moved to the area with the idea of starting a business like this. When I asked the guy behind the counter how they chose this particular, sort of out of the way neighborhood in north Boise he said they were trying to find an area that was underserved for a craft butchershop and the eatery they had in mind. Boy, did they choose well! My neighborhood could use them too. MENU & EATS: The menu features sandwiches (using local bakeshop Acme bread which is always delicious) like Rueben (they make their owned corned beef), pulled pork, peppered smoked turkey and cheesesteak. They also have a hamburger, with their in house custom ground beef, and a breakfast sandwich. All are about $18 and the lunch sandwiches and burger include a small side salad of your choice. The sandwiches are generously sized and my husband and I shared an excellent Rueben on Acme Rye with two side salads and left fully and well fed. While this would be a difficult place for a dedicated vegetarian to eat, there were a couple of main dish salads on the menu as well as some of the side salads that would work for that. My husband and I choose plant based eating almost 90% of the time so I pay attention. EXTRAS: They have items in the butcher case to buy. They also have refrigerated and freezer cases with some items to take away, mostly locally or Idaho sourced. We did buy one of their chicken pot pies from the freezer to try at home, and I have to say we were disappointed in it. The filling was tasty but the crust remained pasty no matter how long it was cooked. A friend bought one and had the same experience. I'll mention it to them next time I'm in and see if they have a "fix" but I'm a pretty ummm...well seasoned...home cook and so I don't think this was me. (PS - If looking for a great chicken pot pie to take home and bake see Certified Kitchen & Bakery in Boise's north end.) VIBE & SERVICE: Open space, sparkling clean, bright and light, order at the counter and they will run it to your table when your food is ready. Seating at standard height, all people can use them, tables as well as some high counter seats at he window. ACCESSIBILITY: This is is a sort of strip mall location and like so many in Boise, the parking lot is not ADA compliant for the number of or location of accessible parking spaces. For those who need this kind of parking with a curb cut onto the sidewalk, I share that there is just one at this end of the strip mall and otherwise the curb is a barrier. That is the strip mall owner's issue. Once inside, all is accessible for floor space and seating. read more
