Here is our story. I won't go as far as saying it is a scam. I will say it was a disappointing experience that caused us to lose faith in Ultimate, although to that point they had been our contracted service company for twice a year maintenance inspections. During one of their routine check up visits last year, the technician told my husband that there were serious things wrong and we needed a new unit. He said that a sales guy would be in touch with us to follow up to make selection for a new unit. We were astounded because the unit was less than 10 years old, we have 3 zone heating and cooling in a custom built home home, we are meticulous about maintenance. We heard from the sales guy a day or two later, he came to our home and met with my husband and I listened to the discussion while working on other things. The sales guy was very nice but this is not our first rodeo, as the saying goes, given this is our fourth custom home where HVAC units were installed to serve multiple zones so my husband had a number of good questions and the answers were vague. We had no reason to distrust Ultimate at that point, but with an almost $25K estimate to install a new unit, we needed a second opinion by a qualified HVAC business. So we called another company we used during an emergency after a water leak that required the restoration company to have the HVAC unit to be removed and replaced. We used that company then because Ultimate couldn't fit us in to their schedule. That other HVAC company did a great job during the emergency so we asked them to come look at our unit. They did and issued a clean bill of health. We are loyal customer types and would have stayed with Ultimate forever in the service contract we renewed with them every year for twice yearly check ups on our HVAC. But after that experience, we switched our annual contract over to this other company. I'm going to give them credit for the years they did the the two seasonal checkups years on our HVC. So I'll post 2 stars with that credit in mind. But I don't think Sam M's 1 star is wrong.

Nick, small business owner of Reds Refrigeration Service and Repair delivered and even went beyond…read morewhat any paying customer can expect when your 32 year old air conditioner has an irreparable leak of now banned Freon and has stopped cooling during the hottest days of triple digit temperatures in Boise. Working with my Landmark my home warranty provider, he promptly provided his professional assessment and obtained an approval for a much-needed unit upgrade, facilitated getting the unit delivered in just a few days, and completed the installation on a Saturday morning as the temperature rose to 102 degrees that afternoon - whew! Thank you, Nick!!! During installation, an internally corroded ventilation flume pipe broke, and Nick knew where to go to get a new one and did just that without missing a beat. This could have caused another two or more days' delay, but Nick took care of us. He explained the warranty and that the new unit was already registered with the manufacturer. It's working superlatively and we couldn't be happier with Nick's service and attention to detail, including adding additional structural support to some damaged dry wall under the unit that he didn't have to do nor did I realize it was compromised from previous water damage from the prior unit; he also applied new duct seam adhesive at all junctures and improved access to the filter for us. Among them a new motor for $867. Something didn't sit right. I called Boise Heating and Cooling looking for a second opinion. Thank goodness Nick answered! He just replaced that motor and charged me $515. He arrived a few minutes early and was out in under an hour. In today's world having skilled, knowledgeable people we can hire knowing they will act with integrity is just getting harder and harder to come by. I had electric baseboard heating, which I hadn't used much in years, and a wood stove. I'm retired now and my significant other passed away a few years ago. Keeping the house warm was becoming more of a chore for me so I wanted to look into mini split systems. No Bogus came out when I called and gave me a decent estimate. But truly, I went with him because he us a local, independent contractor. He and his electrician got in and out in a day. Excellent workmanship and job well done. Now, I am comfortable and not dependent on my wood stove to keep from freezing. I'd definitely recommend them.
