I am very thankful for Flash. We just bought a house a bit outside of Boise last week. We had a problem with the water heater. Wow! Flash is OUTSTANDING. You always hope when there's an HVAC crisis you're not going to be ripped off or upsold a budget breaking solution. My Boise home AC was blowing, but no cold air...in the heat of the summer. I tried several providers... the big name HVAC company, (think big radio advertisements), "diagnosed" my problem as requiring a new A/C. (The home AC was blowing but had no cold air - coolant leaked out of the system) Thought it'd get a second opinion from Flash (guy's name is Nat) before committing to thousands in a new unit. He saved me a bundle of money. He came out, legitimately diagnosed the problem (coolant leak - correctly diagnosed the same as the big name provider) but ACTUALLY FOUND the source of the problem from LOOSE FITTINGS. This was something the other guys missed!! Flash tightened them up, filled up the coolant, ran a leak check, and solved the problem. Major savings and major thanks to Nat at Flash for having the grit to dig a little deeper about the problem and not immediately trying to sell me a new AC unit! Not saying the big name guys were deliberately trying to rip me off, but a little investigative work and giving the AC a good once over saved me an enormous amount of headache and money. Of course our air conditioner decides to go out in the middle of a hot July Saturday. We initially called the company that had service stickers all over the unit. What a mistake that was! I kept Nat's card/magnet on my fridge for six years because his level of service long ago was excellent - fair and friendly. He was my first choice if I ever ran into heating or AC issues, which I didn't have until this year. This year we started having problems with our AC and I remembered him and contacted him first. The first time was a text because on his voicemail he said texting was okay. I never received a response. Everyone has their off days and with the heatwave I imagined every HVAC guy out there was busy. I gave it a couple days and called him. He answered the phone and said he could come out that night. That would've been great, but we asked to schedule the appointment the next day, which was pay day. I was straightforward about that. I also don't expect ANYONE I call for service to come out the same day (except perhaps a plumber). He said he would call back and put us on the schedule the next day. The next day, no phone call. No text. Needless to say, the magnet has been taken off the fridge and put in the trash. ---Edit--- After seeing my review, Nat contacted me to ask me if I still needed help. I manage a few properties in Boise form out of state. One of my tenants required what he thought was an AC repair (but turned out to be a furnace repair). Nat was able to come out on the Saturday before Easter Sunday to provide a quick fix, then return on Monday, when he had picked up the required part, to finish the repair. Outstanding company, great first experience! So I just moved to Boise, and I bought a house and wanted to have a HVAC contractor come out and check out my heating\cooling system, replace the filters, and basically have someone familiar to be able to call should I ever need emergency service in the winter. I did a search online and found a site which listed a bunch of HVAC companies, and I emailed several. Nat, from Flash Heating emailed me back within minutes, gave me some great info in regards to the new system, and offered to come do an inspection and introduce me to his company for almost no cost (just the cost of filters). He showed up when he said he would, and looked through the entire system, replaced the filters, and gave me some great tips for reducing the cost of operation, and extending the life of my furnace. He only charged for the filter replacement, and didn't try to sell me parts that don't need to be replaced. I'm happy to recommend Nat w\ Flash. I hope I don't have to call him in the winter for an emergency service, but I'm happy to have his card and info in the event something goes wrong and I need a quick reliable repair. read more

Our furnace quit working and my wife called one of the big companies in the valley (Western). They came out, told us there was a crack the width of a finger in the heat exchanger, and gave us a quote on a new one. I called Flash Heating and Home Repair for a second opinion. Nat came out and found the crack, but it was much smaller than Western had claimed. Nat also gave us quotes on new furnaces, beating Western by about 40%. To replace our old 80% efficiency furnace with a newer, more efficient model required a new PVC exhaust system as opposed to the existing metal one. Flash included this as part of the quote, but Western didn't bring it up which made us feel like their high estimate included some surprises down the road. We called Western again to see if they would meet Flash Heating's quote and they stated that smaller companies weren't typically trained and certified and that the installation would likely be an issue if we went with Flash Heating. I read the 50 or so reviews on Flash Heating and only found one that mentioned new furnace installation and the reviewer didn't include any details. We ended up deciding that if the repair reviews were so positive, they must know their stuff. We went with Flash and purchased a 96% efficient furnace with a 2 stage gas nozzle and a variable speed motor, for about the same price Western quoted us on an 80% efficient motor with no modern technology upgrades. (By the way, I did a present value calculation on the savings we'd receive on a more efficient furnace and found that we could justify an additional $3800 on a more efficient furnace. That's more than the entire quote we received from Flash.) Nat brought an assistant the day of the big job. They took their time and made my entire system look better than it had before. Replacing the filter in my old system had always been an issue. I didn't identify it before and it wasn't part of the estimate, but they replaced the filter portion of the duct system and made it easy to access. The PVC work was exceptional and professional. The metal work was perfect. They really knew what they were doing! The job ended up taking them longer than they had anticipated, and I appreciated their attention to detail. It would've been easy for them to cut corners to finish the job on time or early, but they didn't. Through the whole process they remained professional and courteous. There are not enough vents in my home so I asked Nat about cutting out a couple of extra vents. He stated that he could and added them to the job without adjusting the estimate. The new vents were straight forward and it may not be the case that he'd be able to do that for every job, but he did it for us and it made me feel like I was getting a great deal on an exceptional job. The installation also came with a new wifi thermostat - a nice surprise. We had worried about the warranty, but the manufacturer's warranty exceeded that of the equipment Western had chosen for us. Nat also provided a 2 year, no-worries warranty that is not typical in the heating industry. If anything happens to our system in the next 2 years, I have full confidence that Nat will take care of it and that we will not receive a bill for parts or labor. In all ways I found dealing with Flash Heating and Home Repair a positive experience. We came away feeling like Western had used scare tactics on us and that Flash Heating had been open and honest with us. Hands down I would use Flash Heating again.
