Plus both dogs stank so bad, I had to drive home with the windows open. My older dog is on medicine for an enlarged heart and another for a malabsorption disease. The woman who helped us picking up the dogs said that they did not give the malabsorption medicine to her but did give her the other pills. She said that she was not the one that did the intake (she was) and wasn't working over the weekend. I typed explicit notes on how much food, medication etc., the pills were organized in a pill container and I found that note crumpled up on the bottom of the bag with all their stuff. Over the next day my older dog was restless and panting so I ended up taking her to the emergency vet for treatment. She had fluid on her lungs and was put on oxygen and given IV treatment to remove the fluid. All in all it cost me $1,600. I truly believe they did not give her the heart medicine that keeps this from happening. I called and spoke with the owner who said he would "talk to the girls" about this and he was sorry. After thinking about this over the weekend, I called back and asked for a refund which I did not get. He said the girls claimed they gave her all her medicine, and I told him that I did not believe him. He said well he believed them and I was not getting a refund. It is clearly evident that I dropped off a dog exhibiting no apparent health problems and picked up a very sick dog. The owners really could have cared less about what happened. He basically paid me back with nothing but lip service. I will NEVER board my dogs there and recommend other do not use them. Side note: I live in Tallahassee not in California and I am not sure how my location changed.

I have stayed with NAH ever since my first visit and that makes it ten years. Sadly, I had to say goodbye to the last pet of the original six recently, and Dr. Novey was her usual exceptional self and helped my little guy and me get through it. I cannot recommend Dr. Novey, Dr. Hall, Dr. Winters and Dr. Scarpinato enough. The NAH staff is amazing and the facility is always clean. Some of the staff has been there since the first day I arrived and to me, that says a lot about how Dr. Novey manages her staff and business. There are always a few kitties available to adopt and I appreciate how NAH helps these rescue animals find a forever home. One kitty I adopted had been there for over six months needing serious care, including surgeries and an eventual limb amputation. The patient care records I received for him is pages and pages and pages long! The amount of care and cost they put into saving him was enormous! If that alone is not an indication of the team dedication at NAH to animal care, I do not know what else to say!! Medical care for pets is expensive similarly to getting medical care for yourself without insurance. I found myself in a tight financial squeeze between jobs and with a sick pet; NAH put me on a payment schedule, so I know if you are a client that may be an option. Many years ago I had a Havanese puppy, bought from a good breeder and came with shot records, showing appropriate Parvo immunizations. This very vet here in Tallahassee, Fla told me she "did not believe breeders" and re-immunized my puppy for Parvo. Guess what...my puppy almost died from PARVO... and she sent me a bill for over 1-2K for saving him. She then wrote a letter to CDC re her actions, who supposedly sanctioned her treatment. However, she refused me a copy of, or for me to read that letter!!! She never apologized or even acknowledged she owed us one.

We had plans to go out of town for several days and because other family members were traveling to the same destination (where pets were not allowed), we had to board our dog for the first time. I called and was given a tour of the entire facility. The person who took me on the tour was very cordial, very accommodating, and answered all of my questions. Each staff member I ran into was very pleasant. I was shown a price sheet of the different boarding options and choose what I felt would work best (we did the National Parks area). I was informed that vaccine records would need to be verified and that there would need to be a meet and greet for the staff to check my dog's "temperament." This needed to be done before I could even make a reservation. All the while, I was hoping that there would be a reservation available by the time this was all done (I originally thought that we could go ahead and make the reservation and then take care of the other requests). In any case, as it turned out, there were a few spots left by the time everything was done. Because our dog is small and a bit timid, I specifically requested/wanted to make sure that he was walked alone, and didn't have his play time with any other dogs. I even paid for photos to be sent to us each day. There was an issue when I picked up my dog and I had to contact management to determine what happened. My frustration with this is that I should not have had to ask what happened; it should have been noticed and I should have been informed immediately. There was especially no excuse, in my opinion, for this oversight - especially when I was being contacted each day. I am still not totally clear on what happened, but I appreciate that my concern was immediately addressed by a manager, including ways to ensure that there wouldn't be a repeat of what happened. Because of the response, I will consider boarding my dog here again if I am in need of boarding services.
