I scheduled an appointment for a haircut for the first time post-vaccine here, as I was in town. The price for the benchmark and beard cut is a little higher than I normally pay for a haircut with my usual barber, but the extra services made for a nice little pampering, as I got back. The stylist I had took great care to ask me a number of questions about my hair and how I wanted to have it cut, taking great detail into each of the specific answers I gave. Honestly, a number of questions I didn't even have an answer for because I had never been asked before. I'm not one for small talk when I'm in the barber chair, and the stylist picked up on that extremely quickly and just let me breathe. Given how long my hair was when I came in, I came away extremely impressed with how my haircut turned out, and my beard looks great. The paraffin dip seemed a little silly, but feeling pampered was nice. The scalp, facial, neck and arm massage was enjoyable. I came in shortly after the CDC advised that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask, but brought a mask in anyway. Everyone working at the location was wearing masks and practicing proper guidelines to keep things clean. I was given the option of wearing or not wearing my mask. Given my vaccinated state, this seemed more than reasonable. Great experience. Not something I'll do every month when I need a haircut, but a nice treat. read more

I received a gift card to the Boardroom Barbershop for my birthday, and I recently visited the location in Addison, TX. It was my first time going to an upscale barbershop, so I decided to go all out with a Benchmark haircut, a beard trim, and ear waxing. I received a generous 25% discount for being a first-time customer, which brought the total down to over $80 before tip. While it was more than my gift card's value, I felt it was worth it. When I arrived, I was greeted by the receptionist, who asked if I would like something to drink. She told me that someone would be with me shortly, so I sat down in the waiting area. The atmosphere felt upscale, and the décor was nice; however, that's where the positives seemed to end. First off, the barber seemed distracted, and I felt that she didn't want to be there. I showed her a picture of myself with a fresh haircut so she would know what I wanted. She asked me a few questions and then started cutting. Within a few minutes, I felt something was off. I tried to make some small talk, but she didn't respond, which made things very awkward. After she finished my haircut, beard trim, and ear waxing, the service concluded with the Benchmark experience. This involved washing my hair, massaging my shoulders, and dipping my hands in hot wax. It was an interesting experience, but I could have done without it. Overall, I was hoping for a great grooming experience, but the quality of the services provided did not meet my expectations for the price. My haircut was uneven and didn't match what I had requested at all. The stylist couldn't style my hair, and at one point, she handed me the comb and said, "Why don't you give it a try?" My beard trim was acceptable, but I could have done it at home. The ear waxing was a disaster; I spent 20 minutes picking small pieces of wax off and there was still plenty of hair left. I left the Boardroom Barbershop feeling dissatisfied. The barbers were unprofessional and lacked talent. Given the premium prices, I expected much higher quality service and a better haircut. I've already made an appointment with my regular barber to see if she can fix my hair. My recommendation is to save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Had Jerrod. Asked for a trim up around my neckline and said I was growing my hair out for a slick back. Showed pics and everything. First thing he did was take clippers and shave off all the length of hair from my neckline in the back up to my crown with a #5 clipper. I was devastated. Months of hair growth lost just because he wasn't listening to me or paying attention. The final haircut was lopsided and not balanced at all. He told me I should ask for a pony tail so barbers will know not to cut it next time. I've always had bad experiences from this place. Reason I haven't been in years. Be very careful of which stylist you get. We had a terrible experience today. I only heard about it afterwards or I would have addressed it on the spot. First, the stylist shook a cape full of hair (from a previous haircut!!!) onto my son. Then during the haircut she didn't use her fingers or a comb to guide her scissors so that it pulled and hurt. Hair also fell onto his face, into his eyes and ears, and she didn't brush it away. I know he didn't exaggerate because he showed me all the hair that fell from his clothes after he got home. About a month or so ago, I "gifted" my husband a pedicure at the Addison location. He enjoyed it very much. I had scheduled the appointment on their website which was so convenient! Tried to do the same again with no luck. I finally picked up the phone to call, was answered by a very curt person who said "first of all, we are booked today (website says walk-ins are welcome) and we no longer offer foot grooming." How disappointing! They offer packages that include "foot grooming" ... starting at $115. I'm sure I can find another place that caters to men. Hopefully, it will have friendlier phone answering folks. Interesting what is considered acceptable customer service these days. I had an appointment scheduled for 5:30. I called 4 hours prior and asked if they could move me up the receptionist agreed and said I was booked for 5:15. I got there at 5:00 to find out they didn't change my appointment so I waited for 30 minutes :(. I scheduled the express cut so I wasn't expecting it to take a long time but my stylist rushed through it in a record-breaking 8-minute haircut. My boyfriend is a regular at this location and usually gets his haircut once every 2 weeks like clockwork. I've been here with him and have taken my brother as well and it is great for what it is. Convenient, affordable, and appointments are always on time. They always give you a beer which is nice. Now, onto the bad and why I'm inclined to give a 2 star review. (Extra star was for all the before mentioned positives) With covid-19 going on, my boyfriend wasn't comfortable going to an open salon with many stylists and clients since he has an underlying condition. He called asking if his membership could be paused and the girl (sytlist, manager, whatever she was) said it couldn't be done since they already "paused" everyone's membership for 2 months during the lockdown. (Uh, of course it was paused when the salon was CLOSED, it would be shady business otherwise) & she stated there was nothing that could be done even with his underlying condition. She also said many others have tried to pause their memberships, so obviously there IS a concern. She then pointed out the contract he signed and I immediately stopped her right there. These are tough times and I understand salons need to make money but I cannot respect a business that values profit over a client's concern for safety. We weren't trying to cancel the membership, just pause until he feels safe being in an open area. I asked her if the salon would take responsibility if a covid case was present there and she stuttered while talking about sanitation. Great clips probably took all those "precautions" as well but one sick stylist exposed many clients and coworkers. Since they do not value client's health concerns especially someone who was a loyal regular, we may just eat the cost and take our business elsewhere. Maybe an independent stylist with a private suite. It is a shame really, because we really did enjoy going there. UPDATE: I have updated and added more detail to my review based not only on my last appointment in 2016, but also on additional interactions with the business by phone and email as recently as 3/23/2017. --- I first started going to Boardroom in 2015, having previously enjoyed similar services at The Gents Place, which was a bit farther from my house. I preferred Boardroom because their services were priced a bit better and I had a great stylist. Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worse on a number of fronts, and I'm sad to say that I can no longer recommend Boardroom. Their sudden price increases, lacking communication, and the loss of key personnel all have weighed heavily on me, and as a voracious consumer of luxurious experiences, my personal recommendation is to find another place to get your hair cut. That's not to say that you might not come here and have singularly pleasant experiences, as I have many times, but only that there are better experiences to be had nearby, for less money, with the same services and a more personal touch. Spend 2 more minutes searching Yelp and you'll find a couple of them. STAFF: One of the key draws at Boardroom for most people is the staff. Unfortunately, many of them have turned over. See all these great reviews that mention awesome receptionists and stylists by name? Several of them are gone as of recently. For example, in my very first review of Boardroom, I talked about Rylie, their best stylist, who transformed the style I'd stuck with since college into a professional look I'd never have thought of on my own. 15% of Boardroom's Yelp reviews are about how great Rylie is, but if you go in expecting to find her still working there, you're going to be disappointed. PRICING: Although their pricing was always around the mid-point of similar establishments, it recently increased by 10%. While I might have been okay with that if it were done in the open, there was no notice of this to customers other than a couple numbers subtly changed on their service menus, leaving loyal regulars who don't even look at the prices anymore to be surprised after the fact. "Oh, sorry sir, but we've increased our prices on the haircut you just received, and your new total with 15% tip will now be $70." That would be a fun one to hear! When I sent in a question about this and asked whether I was getting anything more for that 10%, they responded with the following: "While our services didn't change, this increase positions us to hire, train, and provide a leading compensation and benefits package to our teams, while maintaining a professional and relaxing environment so we continue to deliver the outstanding client service experience our clients are accustomed to receiving." I had so many more questions after that. Was this really necessary? Were you not already well positioned to do all of those things? Why not communicate this with your customers proactively? My response back went to their owner, manager, and marketing person, but none of them responded to me again. COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS: Since I really enjoy these higher-end men's salons, I've visited quite a few and taken the time to compare their services and prices. Here's how I feel about Boardroom relative to today's landscape today: * Boardroom: Recently raised price of "Benchmark" service to $60. Includes cut/shampoo/style, steamed towel, hand/arm massage, and paraffin hand dip. Acceptable beverage selection on arrival. Definitely not a bad option on paper, but it remains to be seen how they'll fare in the long run after this price increase and staff loss. * The Gent's Place: Has a $55 option that's very comparable to Boardroom's Benchmark, minus the paraffin hand dip (which wasn't that important to me). TGP has a nicer selection of complimentary beer, wine, and liquor available, but Boardroom is more conveniently located for me. * 18|8: Has a $42 "Executive" service that's comparable to Boardroom's $60 "Benchmark" in all respects except the paraffin hand dip. (Can't speak for everyone, but I'm not keen on paying the extra $18 to put my hands in hot wax for 30 seconds.) Their beverage selection is comparable to Boardroom. However, both Boardroom and The Gent's Place have superior overall ambiance. * Hair by Rylie: Has a $45 "Next Step" service that includes the cut/shampoo/style, steamed towel, paraffin hand dip, hand/arm massage, and basic selection of beer and soda. Unlike the others, they also offer services for women. The ambiance here is definitely a step below the other 3; it's just a small room in Addison Salon Suites. However, this is the same Rylie that used to be the top stylist at Boardroom, so I would recommend this in a heartbeat unless you're keen on paying an extra $15 for a less amazing stylist in a larger room. CONCLUSION: Given the other options available in the immediate area, and the steps down Boardroom has taken relative to its competition, I do not recommend visiting Boardroom. read more

I had a great first visit at Boardroom. My hairdresser, Danielle, did a great job listening to what I wanted done with my hair. I got The Benchmark (go big or go home, right?!) and was not disappointed! It was very relaxing and Danielle did a great job putting me back to sleep after I just woke up. Haha. It would have been even more relaxing if in the back where you get your hair washed/hands paraffin waxed/etc were a little more separated from the salon noise. Maybe close the first door? Either way, I love the cut and enjoyed the experience. If you are someone that needs to get your haircut a little more often, they also offer a membership that would bring down the price of each haircut which I thought was nice. Leave your number they said we will call you back. Six hours later I called and they said was whoops. That was someone else not me! Crappy customer service and Zero empathy. I've been seeing Anna for 2 years now and trust very few other people with my haircut. My work life is chaotic at best and this is one of the ONLY appointments that I allow for myself during the week. My appointments here are truly the only time I turn my phone off and it's my relaxation respite. Anna knows my idiosyncratic demands and always caters to them with a smile. She gives the BEST scalp massages and keeps me coming back, besides the haircut itself of course. I love the warm welcome, offer of beverage and comfortable waiting chairs. Decided to give this place a shot since it's so close to home and my regular stylist wasn't available. They offer booze and water. Always good. Can't be upset with your haircut if you're crazy drunk. Music is playing, but its not overbearing. You can talk to your stylist without having to damage your vocal chords. My hair is difficult to cut, I admit. It's basically like trying to sculpt a chia pet and any imperfection in length will show. I typically stick with a single stylist and after awhile, they figure it out. Overall, the haircut was ok, some small imperfections here and there, but like I said, my hair is terrible and I really don't expect a stylist to get my hair right the first time. She (Stephanie) took her time and didn't try to rush it and I can appreciate that. High five. I got the Benchmark, so that came with some fancy shampooing and massaging. Pretty relaxing. Hot towel treatment was nice too. They toss some menthol onto the towel so you know what it's like to be a cough drop. I nearly fell asleep. That would have been awkward. There's a pool table in the middle of the shop. Don't know if anyone actually uses it. I sort of wanted to. Pricing is a little steep, but if you have a membership and get haircuts often (ex. every 2 weeks), it may actually work out in your favor and be fairly affordable. This was my first time going to Boardroom. I asked them in both my reservation and talking to the stylist to keep my hair long, since I think it looks better longer, as does my gf. After having to push the hair stylist because she was insistent on giving me a shorter, cleaner professional look rather than work with longer hair, she acquiesced to cleaning it up/making it less thick while keeping it long. She then proceeded to cut my hair short and noticeably uneven on the front sides. Very dissatisfied that they didn't get more creative and were narrow-minded about longer hair, not to mention getting a bad cut regardless of length. read more

I am going on my second year of membership at the Boardroom and Anna has consistently taken awesome care of me. I originally purchased my membership at a different location, but I've come here ever since I discovered Anna and the amazing job she does on my hair every time. I used to get my hair cut once a month, but I am now a big fan of the weekly haircuts afforded me by the annual membership. I can't recommend this place, and Anna specifically, high enough. I've been coming here for a few years and wanted to have a very informed opinion before writing my review. I want to tell you two things before you read my review. Firstly, my hair is pretty difficult to work with (thanks mom and dad). Secondly, I have extremely high standards about where I will go to get my hair cut. My five star rating is most heavily weighted on the excellent service and quality of care I have received from Amber Lynn over the last couple years. She is professional, personable, and very down to earth. The Boardroom itself is a very nice facility, with wood paneled walls, a drink service upon check in, and a pool table, but the service you will receive, especially if you have the pleasure of doing business with Amber Lynn, is second to none. They have a couple very cool membership programs where you pay an upfront fee and then receive haircuts and/or massages, hand treatments etc for the remainder of your enrollment period (either six or twelve months) at no cost. If you're looking to get a haircut every couple of weeks then this is definitely something worth doing. You save like 50% or something when compared with just paying every time you visit. The Express, which I usually get, is essentially just a haircut and shampoo, in and out in 30 minutes. The Benchmark (which is the next 'step up') includes a haircut, hand wax treatment (almost like a mini-manicure with no nail work) and some mini facial treatment with a hot towel. I've done the Benchmark a few times and it's amazing. The wax is very refreshing, a nice 'reset' so to speak. There are a couple other options above that as well but I've never gotten them. Be assured that if you decide to come to The Boardroom, namely this location, you will receive fantastic service in a beautiful, upscale environment. I highly recommend checking them out, and it's no surprise to me that they have such great reviews. read more

Consistently get a great hair cut from Alex C-no doubt about it. My entire life I always just when to great clips or the cheapest haircut I could find because the results were always the same (a mediocre or subpar hair cut-as is the case with pretty much anything in California) regardless of going to a high end or low end place. That all changed when I moved to Texas and gave Boardroom a try. Alex C not only gave a great hair cut but was able to help me find what haircut I actually wanted and how to describe it to her. Never before had anyone even tried let alone succeed in actually helping me. Point is for the first time I have seen what a quality haircut can do and I have AMY C to thank. This Boardroom location is a terrible place. I was a regular customer until I had a problem with an employee named Elizabeth over a 1 minute touchup she made a huge deal about. She then 100% lied and told everyone at the Addison store that I verbally abused her on the phone. Again, this was a total and complete lie. The manager Amberlynn believed her and so did my shave person Sarah. They never bothered or cared to ask me what happened. Sarah stopped speaking to me so I fired her. Amberlynn is incompetent as a manager. Please note that Addison is a franchise store and is not well run. I refuse to give them one more penny of my business. I will never set foot in the Addison store. Go to a corporate owned Boardroom location. The quality of the services are much better and, unlike Addison, they appreciate you as a customer. read more

I've been going to the Boardroom in Addison for about a year, and I LOVE it! The staff is very friendly and helpful, and my barber of choice, Alex Cook, is AMAZING! She is funny, always smiling-although difficult to see with a mask nowadays- and does a fantastic job. The Benchmark treatment really elevates the experience to the next level with a nice scalp massage. My hair has a tendency to go crazy, thankfully Alex is on top of it and always fixes me up. She also suggested some great products they have in the store and I've been using the Sumo Clay ever since. It was so nice of her to not be sales pushy but really just trying to help. She sure has my wife's approval! I highly recommend this barbershop and if you go, ask for Alex. She'll take good care of you! read more

I'm not exactly sure where these great reviews are coming from. I haven't been a customer of The Boardroom, but not for lack of trying. I've been eyeing this business since I found out it was being built, and since I live within walking distance, I was excited to visit. I thought that my impending wedding was the perfect time, so I decided to go do some recon beforehand. I went into The Boardroom at about 2pm on Sunday 10/16/16. There were maybe 5 men inside with two ladies behind the front desk. My fiancee and I, after being greeted gave them the basic information that we had 7 groomsmen who we were wanting to get some salon services for before the wedding. I was given a brochure and told that "here is a list of what we offer." No offer to explain or tour the facility. They seemed frankly uninterested in our business. I was told by one that we should book quickly since they fill appointments fast. After she told us that, she walked away and left the other lady alone. Looking at the brochure, I saw that a 6 pack of services got a 10% discount, so I asked about that since there would be 7 of us. I was told that the discount was for me buying 6 sets for myself. Since I saw that nowhere on the brochure, I asked what difference was it if I was the one to use all 6 or had 6 people use them all in one day. She seemed confused and had no answer. Then she started with, "I guess..." I stopped her and asked if there was anyone else who knew more about the packages rather than guessing about what her employer offered. She left and returned with another lady who greeted us and began to tell us everything we had already heard. Apparently she hadn't been informed of what my question was, so I repeated it. She seemed confused so I asked again what was the difference between me using the package and 6 friends using it. Her response was to ask, "Well, how are you going to pay for it?" This stopped me in my tracks and I decided that I would not look at it as the racial question it seemed like. As the groom paying for my groomsmen, I decided to just let that slide since who pays should have nothing to do with a business gaining 7 new customers So, I tried to get her back on track by asking what kind of package she could put together. She then bypassed the stack of brochures she had on the counter and took mine out of my hand so that she could read what they had and proceed to tell me what they couldn't do. She told me about barbers they didn't have and how they couldn't do shaves with straight edge razors. I guess she assumed all my groomsmen looked like me. Maybe my initial though was correct. My fiancee at this point asked where their other locations were and was hit with, "Well, where do you live?" After being told we lived in Addison, she said, "Well, we're right here..." I then grabbed another brochure and asked about a few of us getting cuts and some getting shaves and manicures. After being told that all of their packages are different I asked, "So what if we wanted to get 7 of The Classic or The Presidential?" She went back to saying we might be able to.. and we may be able to... Frustrated to no end at this point, I assumed that coming in on a Sunday for clear answers was a mistake and told her so. I asked if someone else was there during the week who could do better than guess and could put together a package for a wedding party of 7. She then gave me Ms. Wesson's card and said she "usually probably" would be there after 11 on Tuesday. I'm so disappointed in this lack of service and think you must be informed of the type of service your customers get on the weekend. I assure you that if The Boardroom as a company gets my business, it will NOT be the Addison location. That in itself is distressing because it means I'd rather brave traffic than walk across a parking lot. Is this how you treat your African-American potential clients? Is it because of my casual attire, being in a football jersey on game day? I wouldn't even bring this up except to note that I was asked how was I going to pay for this and was told that you don't have barbers at that location while gesturing at my hair and beard, assuming that all of my groomsmen have the same hairstyles and texture. They laughed when I pointed out that my questions were going unanswered. I'm sure when you talk to the employees there, you'll come back and respond that our initial contact in the store was African-American like us. Even with that being the case, she deferred to the other employee for all of the answers and with that woman, I felt like our business was undesirable. read more

I don't like to put out reviews, I only do so when I'm moved to, usually by bad service. Really this is more disappointment, they are so close to an amazing formula but seem to fall short with their staffing. I have recently moved from NYC to Dallas and wanted to find a barber that was comparable to Spiff. Boardroom seemed to hit that mark and was very close to my new home. So I booked an appointment with Amber-Lynn and was pleasantly surprised. It was relaxing and I got a pretty good haircut. Amber-Lynn was friendly and attentive. I could not schedule a massage as they stated that there was no one scheduled to perform them, so I got the lesser shoulder and neck massage. This visit was definitely satisfactory. My next visit was less so. I won't mention names but I scheduled myself for the exact same services as my previous visit. Amber-Lynn was not on the roster for the time/date. I was again told there's no therapist, only this time they admit that there isn't one on staff. My stylist on this visit isn't nearly as attentive. Rushes a bit and definitely didn't make me want to come back. The haircut itself was not the worst, but it was not worth the premium I was paying for. Then she skips the whole shoulder and neck massage that I had asked for. When I went to pay, the reception clearly tried to charge me for it but I had to inform them that I did not receive the service. Though they did offer to get me the requested service, I didn't feel like I'd get good service. She was moderately abrupt and not at all that interested in my comfort and only moderately interested in my hair styling. So I'll look for alternatives, maybe if they get a therapist at this location and it is clear that the service is available I may try it again. Good luck guys. Your mileage may vary. read more

This was by far the best haircut experience I've ever had. I had Anna as well, and she was spectacular. She understood my woes of trying to find a good stylist. Every stylist before her just went based off of my recommendations. The problem with that mindset is that I have no clue what looks good, or how hair works. More often than not, I'd have to settle for a buzz cut to fix the mistake I made when trying to be stylish. Anna took my considerations in, gave me much better tweaks to that idea, and went full steam ahead! I personally got the benchmark. I recommend anyone who has not gone to the boardroom get it for their first time experience. You get the cut, a facial, hot towel, hand wax, scalp massage, arm and hand massage, and come out feeling like a million bucks. The Boardroom is also the only place that I know of that sells beard oil locally. I just bought some online, and was stoked when I walked in to see it on display. Now I don't have to wait online and can get some anytime I come in to get a cut. I'd recommend this place over any for men that want to be pampered and get a great cut. This review is long overdue; I have been a very happy member at this salon since November of 2015. I tried the benchmark service and was very quickly hooked based on the value for the money. Personally, I have my Anna as my stylist, but have been coming long enough to see that they have many talented stylists at this location. While Anna is my personal choice (and she is pretty amazing), you won't be disappointed by anyone at this location. What do I love about coming here? Great advice on the best style for you....a great cut....and all the extras are amazing. Try a benchmark and you will be hooked. I came here as a guest so my haircut was comped. However, I don't think that it would have been worth the $55 value that I would have otherwise paid had it not been free. The haircut itself felt lacking in detail. The stylist was rough in the way she used the trimmer. Also, conversation with her was awkward and it felt like she didn't have much of a personality. My initial impression with this place is it feels like it's trying to masquerade as being a high end experience catering to men but they may not be hiring top talent to match expectations. Maybe some will find the experience meets their expectations but I would strongly urge anyone to fully evaluate it before committing to one of their annual membership packages. read more

Being a introvert going to get my haircut used to be a stone cold nightmare to be avoided if possible. I hated the question how do you want my to cut your hair? The reason being is that I really don't put any thought into how my hair is cut so I typically say just like how it is now just clean it up. I do not Care for meaningless small talk forced on me or being touched by people outside my small circle of people I truly trust. Rose Doan is not your typical male hair stylist she has a great eye on how to cut t my hair without asking me a ton of questions on how to cut my hair. The calming aura that she gives off allows me to drop my shoulders for a short time. My recent experiences with the Boardroom has not been the best although I've been a customer for almost a year. I purchased the VIP package, which is a commitment to use a Boardroom for the purchase period. Virtually the next appointment I made, I was admonished by Courtney, whose job is to set appointments, to not be late. Upon arrival Courtney instructed me about how lucky I was to be able to see a hairstylist on short notice. Since Boardroom is marketing a VIP package, we purchasers should be treated like VIPs. Courtney doesn't even use common courtesy. As a senior executive, it's unusual for this to happen to me. I guess it must happen with everybody at the Boardroom in Addison. read more
