This is our third visit and we could not be happier! We like to sit at the bar and we have always been greeted promptly and with enthusiasm! Our primary server at the bar twice has been Leon. He is amazing! We do not recall our other primary server but everyone works together as a team! This is what makes a great restaurant and experience. The food has been presented and prepared great the three time we have visited! We have had the happy hour special of a hot dog served with chips or a small salad. The salad is very nice and the kettle chips are great! I have also had the chicken tacos that I had served with the side salad. It's literally one two many tacos for me! This is a great place for couples and family's! Lots of games and not to loud music. If you sit at the bar there is also a nice view of the water/Wharf area! Overall this has been a great experience! I've been to Boardwalk at the Wharf quite a few times, and it's one of my favorite places to bring friends or out-of-town guests. I love the whole arcade-meets-bar concept, and the space has a fun, funky vibe that makes it easy to spend a few hours there. That said, I think the food is just okay. It's never really been the reason I go, and I'd probably recommend sticking to drinks if you're stopping by. On my most recent visit with a group of friends, the staff also seemed a little overwhelmed, so service was a bit slower than expected. Even with those drawbacks, I'll definitely be back. I thought I'd seen everything weren't it comes time to pay but last night was a "are you kidding me?" moment. I'm pretty much immune to seeing "convenience fee", "service fee", "living wage fee", or some such surprise when the bill comes but last night was a new fresh hell. I stopped into Boardwalk on the Wharf for a quick drink and a bite to eat. I ordered a drink and looked at the menu. I didn't see anything on the menu I liked so I asked for the check. The bill was $9.19 and I tried to give my server a $20 bill but was told this - "Sorry, you don't get any change if you pay with cash." Meaning I would have to use my credit card or pay an extra $10.81. That's more than the price of the actual drink. AYFKM?? Is this even legal? read more

Boardwalk is fine, but out of all the choices at the Wharf this would be on the bottom of my list unless you have kids. It's nice and fun, but the food is pretty overpriced and there's nothing really special. I stopped by with friends on a Thursday night. You seat yourself, and most of the tables are long communal tables. The decor isn't too exciting although they do have a nice long bar in the front with a great view. The staff were friendly but definitely running around to all the tables. The hot dog was $12 with chips, and it was an average hot dog. I got the Cubano sandwich which was good but not great and was $18. Again, the food was fine but not worth the money. There are a few arcade games, including some pinball machines and crane games. Upstairs they have a basketball game and skeeball. There are no tickets so I would think it would be a nice date night activity. I would guess kids would want tickets or prizes. Boardwalk does an average job with a few different things. I would go instead to a nice restaurant or bar or a great arcade. read more

I had a great experience here! I came on a whim while randomly walking by, and I saw that they had hotdogs so I had to stop. I got the loaded dog and some nachos with chicken. I love the loaded dog! The hotdog itself was really good quality, and the toppings were generous without being overpowering. The bun stayed intact throughout the whole dog experience, which is rare I feel when you have a lot of toppings like that. The nachos were great but definitely something you need to eat on site as they do not transfer afterwards. I also got a nonalcoholic strawberry slushy and it was quite tasty. I loaded $10 onto a card and got to play a good number of games, including skew ball, basketball tic-tac-toe, and pinball. The service wasn't terrible but it wasn't the best. They looked annoyed most of the time. The area itself is cute, perfect for a quick stop (did you SEE the bar?!) and it's the Wharf. Our server greeted us and took our order pretty quickly, then after we got our food we didn't really see him again. I had a frozen drink without much of a flavor and a club sandwich, which was very good. Inside there are games both on the main level and upstairs-some are claw machines, others are video games and they even have ski ball. Instead of using quarters, you have to preload money onto a card and swipe it for the games-which all cost various points. I think I still have a random number of points leftover on the card. We recently visited Boardwalk Bar & Arcade at the Wharf in DC with some friends and our young kids. It's a fun, lively spot that does a great job balancing family-friendly vibes with a bit of adult-time. That said, I think the experience would be a lot smoother if your kids are a little older -- around 8 and up. Ours are younger, and it ended up being a bit tricky to juggle. Our friends wanted to sit outside, which has a nice covered area (great for light rain, which we experienced), but it made it hard to keep an eye on the kids inside playing games. We had to tag-team: one adult inside, one outside, which definitely cut into the relaxing aspect. Seating is mostly high tops or benches without backs, which was surprisingly limiting--especially since one of our guests has a bad back. There were a couple of tables with proper chairs, but very few. We ordered food and found it perfectly fine and standard. The pizza was a crowd-pleaser. I tried the pulled pork sliders, which were too sweet for my taste. The kids were thrilled with the cotton candy, which came in different color options--a fun little touch. Service was friendly, but it could be hard to track someone down, probably because we were outside. The arcade uses a prepaid card system, which is easy to use but can get pricey depending on how game-hungry your kids are. The games are spread out over two floors, so there's a lot to explore. My partner had a cocktail or two and said they were great (he didn't share), and I had a glass of wine that was just right. Overall, this is a spot we'd definitely come back to -- especially when the kids are a little older and more independent. Between the food, drinks, games, and people-watching, it's got a lot going for it. Just be ready to stay flexible if you've got younger ones in tow. read more

When every place has a long wait, you come here. We had no wait and sat outside, which was really nice. It was still busy here, and given how busy it was, found the service friendly and attentive enough, which was a nice surprise. Drinks were strong, which we both appreciated. The food menu is very small and likely just heated up quickly, but not awful if you need a bite to eat. We had the pretzel and pizza and both were edible. Such a fun spot to grab some tacos and quesadillas! Lots of sitting outside. We had a lovely waitress who was super attentive, informative and kept refilling our waters multiple times without having to ask. She was on top of it! Even let my friend charge her phone. Food came out rather quickly! I enjoyed my mahi mahi tacos , salad was fresh too! Me and my sister came to this restaurant and sat at the bar, my sister said hello and asked to see a menu to our server once we sat down and he said "try again", she said hello and he said "there we go" in a very snotty way. The whole experience put a bad taste in my mouse and made me want to leave. We ordered the salsa and guacamole, which was bland and gross, salt and pepper saved the guac but not the salsa. Walked in to have bottomless mimosas. We had 2 bottles of champagne and 3 different juices. We ordered popcorn and French fries to snack on while watching the game. The hand bottomless brunch going on along with the mimosas. I was glad to see that we could separate what we wanted. The service was fine, there was a young guy serving us as we sat at the bar. He was very attentive and on point. Unfortunately the ambiance wasn't nothing spectacular, it's an arcade with a bar in a great location. Went to this place last Saturday. They had one server for over 30 people and he was also waiting on tables downstairs. I am not complaining about his service but the manager should have been on top of things and all he did was walk up and down the steps. I am complaining about them not answering their phone as we have called over 30 times and it just goes to voicemail and no one returns our calls. We were overcharged on our credit card after we left. I authorized a payment of 104.84 which included a surcharge that he couldn't explain and out credit bill shows 111.84. I don't understand how a restaurant can stay in business with this kind of process. Food was okay...but very noisy and difficult to hold a conversation. I love this place, for someone who lives in Pentagon City and rarely ventures to DC I can say I am very happy I did today. The Boardwalk has a very cool and comfortable vibe. The lighting is magnificent, a very light and open feel. The first floor bar where I was watching my Patriots beat the Bengals was hugeeee! Fantastic selection of beer on tap. Lots of local craft beer too. The Bartender Sophie was super nice and personable, she took very good care of my buddy and I and all her guests, so big shout out to the service! I really can't wait to come back next time and enjoy some more beer sports and atmosphere and maybe try the food too. We stopped into Boardwalk Bar & Arcade around 7pm on a Sunday, looking forward to playing some arcade games and grabbing a bite to eat. The menu didn't necessarily wow us, but we were happy to give it a try for the experience. Unfortunately, the visit was confusing and disappointing. There was no hostess and no one greeted us when we walked in. After standing around for several minutes, we assumed someone would eventually help us, so we went ahead and bought credits for the arcade games. We quickly realized that about half of the games we tried weren't working. Still, no one checked in with us or asked if we wanted a table to eat. It was unclear whether it's bar service only or if we were supposed to seat ourselves -- there was simply no guidance. After feeling unsure and a bit ignored, we decided to leave and go somewhere else for dinner. The concept is fun and the location is great, but clearer communication, working games, and basic guest acknowledgment would make a big difference. read more

this place literally advertises doing a happy hour every single day. we were at the wharf for Oktoberfest and the weenis race. at 4 PM we asked for the happy hour special and they said that they were not doing them. we said "that's crazy, it literally says on the menu that it is happening right now ..." and they said "well not today..." So apparently they don't do it on events, which is really annoying. Even though they have the sign outside advertising it. yeah, and if you're not there for happy hour, the drinks are so overpriced, especially the beer. This place was a bit underwhelming. The arcade options were mostly outdated, vintage games that kids wouldn't really have an interest in/be able to play. When I arrived I tried to get a game card and the machine was messing up repeatedly, but there was no staff around to help with anything and when I finally tracked someone down they basically shrugged me off and said, "sorry, there's another machine upstairs" and didn't do anything to actually help me. The game cards are way overpriced in my opinion too. As for the food, I was really disappointed. For the price, I expected the pizza to be enough to actually fill me up but it's just bigger than a "personal" pizza. I could've comfortably eaten the entire thing myself, let alone have enough for my son with me. The service was not bad, but just seemed disconnected and he made me feel like he couldn't care less about what my experience was like. It got pretty busy too so I ended up waiting on this guy for a while. Loud music, mediocre service, and an underwhelming "arcade" all added up to a very bland experience overall. This place is just really over priced for the quality and quantity of food and drinks. The location for this place is right on the wharf. I assume their target audience are tourists with kids. I really like the arcade and board walk games they have. The outdoor seating is my favorite spot. It's great people watching. Service is hit or miss. Our waiter appeared to be avoiding us. We were a pretty low key so did not need constant attention. But trying to close out the tab took forever. The establishments ability to spilt the bill for large groups is appreciated. Indoors is really nice. Large seating areas upstairs bar. Drinks are really expensive. A small cocktail glass full of frozen drink is costly. It's a good drink.
