A friend of mine told me about this place. He said to try their steak grinder. He also made the comment of their salads being really good. I ordered a 8 inch steak grinder with a side salad. There's so much to tell... what start with the homemade bread for this sandwich. It was just the right thickness and tasted very fresh. If I had to pick something to make the sandwich better it would be to add more shaved steak. But the combination of the peppers and cheese and mayo was excellent. The side salad was delicious for a side salad. It had fresh veggies and you must get the homemade ranch dressing. It is possibly the best in the state. There are several booths to sit and enjoy your meal. It was a warm and cozy atmosphere. The service was relatively quick. The young lady at the counter was super friendly. I'm so glad my friend told me about this place. I will definitely be back. I have already told others about Boardwalk Cafe!

Located across from the Peru Post Office. Street parking which was empty this time. It was full when I attempted to check this place out previously. Decor & architecture were interesting. Pretty vintage style chandeliers, painted tin ceiling tiles, & exposed brick at the back behind the counter. The white ceiling fan was dirty as my friend observed. I'm glad it was off and not flinging dust about. Pretty empty on a Wednesday evening. Open until 8 PM most nights, so better hours than a lot of Peru establishments. Closes at 9 on Friday & Saturday. Closed Sundays. The ordering process was a little strange and unexplained. You walk to the counter at the back to order. A black lit up menu was on the wall & wasn't entirely easy to see. We later discovered the menus displayed on the counter are old & don't list accurate information. I'd glanced at menu photos online taken by patrons before heading out, so I knew what the basic options were - grinders, salads, and pizza. They have no website listed online, yet had a QR code on the lit up wall menu. I'm not sure how you'd even scan that from that distance or where it takes you. They give you a number placard to place at the edge of your table, even if you're the only diners inside. They fill your soft drink for you from a fountain to the right of the counter. We sat ourselves at the cleanest booth after passing two dirtier ones. The seats on ours had visible crumbs. The girl who had taken our orders offered me a refill on my water table side. She waited for me to hand her my cup & didn't reach for it. It's a better standard to bring a fresh drink out & not put a used glass under the soda fountain not to mention other hands touching your cup, but whatever. At least two girls brought food out. My friend's "Irish nachos" looked pretty good. Smelled like potato skins. She said she liked them but could only eat about half & did not opt to take the rest to go. I think the use of frozen tater tots is meh. I'd have expected homemade potato medallions. Again, whatever. I'd ordered the veggie grinder. I asked for no cheese. Maybe I'm not understanding what a grinder is, but to my dismay, after my food arrived & staff had walked away, I realized the grilled bread had hot, coagulated mayo on it. It wasn't easy to see. I knew by taking one disgusting bite. I'd already noticed the obviously canned mushrooms when it was set in front of me. I could have dealt with the mushrooms and the sad amount of veggies on this thing even though mine had none of the most expensive ingredient which is the cheese, but mayo on a grinder? Since they serve pizza, I assumed it would have marinara on the side if anything. I returned my basket to the counter. I didn't know it came with mayo. I don't understand why anyone would think you would want mayo if you don't want cheese. I was offered a new one, but I didn't want anything at this point. I was grossed out, and there wasn't much to this sandwich. I would expect some extra veg for no cheese or at least ALL the veggies one of the menus cited this came with, that I might be asked about the other ingredients. All that aside, I was more flabbergasted that no refund was offered. I returned to our table. When my friend was finished, she went up to the counter and got them to reverse the charges on my card for my sandwich. I could hear the counter girl arguing that it stated "mayo" on the lit up menu, which I did not see, and said the "old" paper menu on the counter doesn't list it. They must have changed the menu a few times as the two I saw online also didn't list mayonnaise, DID list more vegetables, and listed a price hike. It wasn't clear whether you bus your own table. Again, no direction. Poorly thought out procedure. I'm not against tipping if I order myself standing at a counter if it's exceptional service or if I think I have a chance I'll be remembered and get priority service upon return, but I don't like the idea of a place like this asking for a tip at checkout before your visit is completed. They had a prominently displayed tip jar for cash as well. Ugh. Anyway, another sad excuse of a restaurant in this town. Quite half-assed attempts at a vegetarian menu. If you are vegan, I recommend staying away. That's what I'm going to do. I can cook far better food myself at home. It'd just be nice to have somewhere decent to go in this area for ambience and atmosphere. This was like a bar without the bar combined with a better decorated Subway. I don't often hand out one star reviews. You may like this place and the prices if it suits your dietary needs. I'll be inspecting menus more carefully and will be extra specific while out in the future. It seems I need to whip out sanitizer wipes as well. If they paid more attention to menu and service detail as much as decorating and had a working website along with maybe one fully plant based option, this review would have taken a different turn.

    Food

This restaurant is amazing they always have the best customer service. You always have the people at the front desk coming up to you asking if everything's OK how your food is. Also it's very nice in there and very comfortable. Totally recommend!

I've been extremely impressed with everything we've tried at Boardwalk Cafe. Grinders, salads, bread sticks, and soups are all excellent. Specifically go on Monday sometime for their grilled cheese grinder & Tomato Bisque combo. It's incredible. The staff is very friendly, food is fresh and brought out quickly, and the prices are very reasonable. This is what a restaurant is meant to be in every way.

Passing through for work, great spot to grab a delicious sandwich or pizza. Steak and cheese is fancy but tasty. The ham grinder was mouth watering - the sit down space is super cute. Food came out fast and the service was spot on

Very small place but seating outside. Atmosphere very nice and well decorated.. Unsure as to if you seat yourself. Did so but guess they have most of menus on a marque. Have trouble walking . Ask for menu and had a friend purchase my order while I sat. Whole process was confusing. Only Pepsi products. I had BLT without cheese. Food arrived had no mayonnaise they said it was baked in. I ask for a side of mayonnaise and the bread and sandwich-were excellent. Husband ordered the Italian beef it was good but only fair they used banana peppers instead of the Italian jardiniere should be offered on a real Italians beef with Au jus. Daughter had chicken club she says it was delicious. The breadsticks were the very best I have eaten. We ordered extra to take home and share. Will definitely recommend .

Best breadsticks in town. Love the new location. The ground sausage on their pizza is my favorite.

They did have some unique flavors and large waffle cones which don't look like they came from a factory. Portions were above average. I was not expecting it to be a cash only business, so the person who dragged me along paid for my order, as I rarely carry cash anymore. In fact, I've discovered since I moved to this area that a lot of Peru businesses only accept cash. Slightly shady in my opinion and definitely inconvenient in this century. It's a somewhat cute little walk-up place. The limited seating outside seems to always be packed. It's seasonal, so it's not open year-round. I'd rather not eat outside in the heat nor do I especially enjoy dining in a car. My cone was already beginning to melt before I even got to dig in. The sandwich I got to go was alright, but that was from the separate pizza place behind it. Cash only as well and no delivery. Service was alright from what I remember. I'm sure this is a beloved place by many locals. It just doesn't have anything that would really draw me back for another go. I do know that a lot of patrons walk through the yards of the surrounding homes, park blocking driveways, and toss their trash into said yards. So, if you go, find a trash can or take your refuse with you. Simply put, just don't be a jerk.

Dominos was never my favorite pizza except for one location I frequented years ago. The good thing…read moreabout Dominos is they're open later than other restaurants. It's one of the only delivery options in Peru, especially at night, and it's more affordable than the competing pizza chains. Online coupons are budget helpers. I hadn't ordered from here in quite a while. I did a few times when I first moved to Peru. Things were chaotic, and I was hungry. I was eating a bit of dairy here and there, but I've removed it completely again for heath & ethical reasons. That being said, there are not many plant based options, but thanks to some helpful websites that do the homework for me, I was able to easily figure out what I'd like to have. For what I got, this seemed a bit pricey, but it was really one of two restaurants open for delivery. Even though nothing was available on local delivery services, after issues from them all, I'd much rather order straight from a restaurant and not have a middleman to mess everything up. I'm low on groceries and really just wanted something to eat. I will only utilize this in emergencies, not just because of the small selection but the service isn't as good as it used to be. I used an online coupon to order the Mediterranean garden veggie sandwich and a build your own pasta. I called after I placed my order to ask for the robust pizza sauce instead of their marinara on my pasta since the pizza sauce has no dairy, and there isn't anywhere online to make a substitution request. I was on hold for nearly six minutes, listening to several schpeels. I hung up and called back and got someone right away who was vet nice and accommodating over my request. My sandwich had banana peppers on it, and that was something I requested for them to leave off. They're just something I can't eat anymore the older I get. The veggies were pretty sparse and sloppy. Seeing how I didn't get the cheese, it would have been nice to get a better amount of veg. I scraped most of them into my pasta and turned the bread into garlic bread. I don't remember the sandwich being very stellar even when I had it with cheese over a year ago anyway. Dominos' pasta primavera was actually really good in the past. It just needed garlic and black pepper, but since I didn't want dairy, I did a build your own tonight. As I said, I called to request robust pizza sauce instead of the marinara. The pasta looked far better than the sandwich, especially after I doctored it up with what I had in the house. I'm full, and it was semi healthy even though it lacked much of a protein source. Even doctored up, and I'm a pretty good cook, it was just okay. Overpriced, yet not as bad as what I checked out on the site of the other pizza place that was still open. Again, something I'd reserve for emergencies when starving. I really just need to move to a real city with better options. While the man who answered the phone was great, and I have had some awesome delivery drivers from here in the past, this one left my food on the porch for the no contact delivery as requested but sent no text and didn't call like I'm accustomed to receiving from this Dominos. I also always add "Please call, don't knock" to my orders. And for pre tipping over 30%, it was a little disappointing there was no notification or thank-you. Luckily, I had the tracker and kept an eye out. I'm sure there is a high turn over, so the people I had before may very well be long gone. This Dominos isn't awful, and I'm grateful there was at least something I could eat. I just won't be a regular. If you're in Peru and want something late, which really isn't even "late" by my standards, it's a decent choice. I'd go for the pasta before their pizzas and bread which can be greasy and lacking flavor. Another bonus is that, with the exception of 2020, (not sure about later) this Dominos is open on Christmas. I don't like making someone waiting on me on holidays, but it's good for those who WANT to work those days. A good driver I had Christmas Eve 2020 was a lifesaver when I didn't have food in the house and was explaining how he was bummed corporate was not allowing them to work that Christmas Day. I do have to say they are almost always super fast. That's why I was afraid to be on hold too long. There was a chance my dish was already being made. Dominos is open until Midnight. They're competitor across the street is only open until 11. I believe the other chain nearby is only open until 9 or 10.

I hadn't had Papa John's in many years and never from this particular location. I'm left wondering what in the world happened to the quality. While the prices were lower than a competitor down the street if you order online and choose"deals," it's really not an inexpensive meal choice anymore. Better pizza than the competition across the way but not good. Papa John's used to have the best crust resembling a bread stick. Now it's flat and hard and dotted with puncture like marks. When did that start? Every other time I had Papa John's, the crust WAS the bread stick hence the signature garlic sauce included. I can't have them anymore, but I swear they used to place more than one pepperoncini pepper in the box along with the cup of garlic dipping sauce. They seemed to skimp on cheese and toppings even when extra toppings were requested. Floppy and messy. One of the pizzas had a cup of garlic sauce which was open and leaked along one side through the cardboard and all over the undercarriage of that pizza. When I gently opened that cup the rest of the way, it exploded and made a huge greasy mess. The bread sticks were soft and far batter than the crust. No flavor though other than the sauces you choose. Ten bread sticks, but some are small and oddly shaped. One cup of sauce per box. You can add extra sauces or get a deal on two extra cups for less if you click in the right place online. Even with their deals, two boxes of bread sticks cost more than a large pizza. I had to get two to get the price since I didn't want wings or the other sides. You're going to want plenty of extra sauce. Speaking of sauce, their cheese sauce is pale. It's spicy but the flavor isn't at all what I expected. The garlic is still the way to go, imo. They had a lot of other sauces they didn't use to have. I was hoping they had a salad on the menu. Nope. I also found it odd they don't have their own delivery drivers anymore. My online order was redirected to a Doordash tracker. My driver was polite and prompt though. I don't normally eat stuff like this, and after this experience, I doubt I would order from here again. Homemade or store bought seems more economical and the choice if you want flavor. I don't know what I was thinking and regret wasting money on this. My four legged pizza party dining companions were happy and had fun though. That was the only redeeming quality of this experience. The Papa John's I knew as a whole since the nineties is no more. Long gone are the days when pizza was a cheap dinner option on nights you don't feel like cooking or are having a celebration. Back when Papa John's had a simpler menu in simpler times, it was actually the best of all the chains. Sad now.
