His wife was ill and he was concerned and I understood. Finally he stopped answering the phone and the messages filled up. I wrote him a letter in February of 2015 telling him if he couldn't communicate or make the rudder, at least send me back the rudder for my blown boat. If he was broke send it C.O.D. No response. He even fixed one of my blow fuses free of charge because he had extra in his bag of tools. It's hard to find a reliable mobile marine mechanic who communicates well, shows up when promised, and delivers quality workmanship, but Thomas checked all those boxes. Later that same day, my uncle (who's a certified mechanic) came over and had the issue fixed in under 10 minutes. I reached out and asked for a partial refund since nothing was diagnosed or repaired, and his response was basically that "his time is valuable." That's ridiculous. So is charging people for doing absolutely nothing. Not someone I'd ever call again or recommend. Showed up late, didn't help, and refused to take any responsibility. I had an overheat problem with my Mercruiser 454. After installing new exhaust manifolds,…read moreElbows/risers, thermostat, then circulation and sea water pumps the problem still existed. We were at our wits end and getting discouraged as this was a new engine with less than 100 hours on it. As my wife works in the industry at a business with a similar name, we reached out to see if they could figure out what was causing our issue. Derek was very helpful and courteous as well as thorough with the inspection process. After a couple of days he figured out that water flow was being restricted at the transom due to a clogged inlet that was described simply as "mush". We obtained a new transom and had it installed. Derek called us up and said there was no more steam, the temp was back to normal and the motor was running fine. After picking up the boat, we took it to Elsinore for a test run with no issues. What a relief. For the scope of work performed, the cost was reasonable. That being said, everyone knows what BOAT means! Lol. A big thank you to Derek and the entire staff at Advanced Marine Service! Now we are bound for the river!
