Our family had a great meal at this establishment, and our service was excellent. The wings were outstanding. I highly recommend the Monarch flavor, but the hot wings were also great. The peel and eat shrimp was also a hit with our family. Burgers and fries were delish. My son said the fish tacos were some of the best he had ever had. My daughter and I enjoyed sharing the fish and chips (portion was huge) as well. One of their signature drinks, the Lucky Penny was also very tasty. This establishment uses eco-friendly products and serves many organic and locally grown food products. We will definitely be back our next time in Salida, and highly recommend this establishment. read more

Our hotel desk clerk recommended this place and I'm so happy they did. We were allowed to sit outside with our dog. The waitress brought our dog some water. My husband got the chicken cantina sandwich and I got the smoked chicken salad. We also had the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. Everything was delicious. Not sure why it only has 3-1/2 stars on yelp but it's worth the trip. read more

This place is awesome, on a road trip through southern Colorado with my fiancé and was recommended I swing by. The host trinity was super helpful and even though I knew it was a far off request to ask for a corner table, she was able to make it happen. That alone is 5 stars. Our waitress Madeline was also super helpful and gave amazing service. Highly suggest seeing this team. This restaurant is doing a terrible job of keeping customers safe during COVID. The social distancing is not being adhered to with table placement and then customers and servers walking becomes a huge deal. The server got in my face when I was ordering, and servers were only wearing masks around their chin instead of over their faces. Customers were also allowed into the restaurant without wearing masks. We left before we got our food because not only was all of this going on, but the servers technique when delivering our drinks was horrendous. Great views right on the river. We were told outside seating was unavailable, but our "inside" seats were next to garage style windows and had perfect views of the water. Service was great, prompt and efficient. Great selection of local brews. Food had a nice selection 1 in our party was a vegetarian who had to issues and choices. When it came food was great! DO NOT TRY TO EAT ANYWHERE IN SALUDA WITH A DOG IN TOW. The Boathouse has designated three tables outside in the construction zone where you can eat with your dog. Those tables were taken by dog-less customers when we were there. Most other restaurants won't even let you have a dog outside. No dogs in stores. No dogs in the park!!!! If you want to have a good time in Salida leave your dog at home. We won't be coming back to this town read more

I give it 2 stars for playing music loudly at noon. As well as 2 stars for $10 for seven, although tasty, small, lonely fried cheese curds. BUT, the staff were enthusiastic and my burrito was excellent... what are you gonna do? My grandma and I went to go eat here for lunch. She had been there previously and enjoyed it, especially with the view of the river. We walked to the hostess stand and there was nobody there so we waited. A phone was ringing at the hostess stand, an employee came up, looked at us, grabbed the phone and walked away. She didn't address us at all. A woman sitting in a booth, who I assume was a manager because she had a computer in front her, hollered across the restaurant saying the hostess was seating someone and that she'd be with us shortly. The hostess finally arrived and we asked to be seated with a view of the water. She said they only seat parties of 4 or more in those tables. She sat us at a table in the middle of the restaurant. The couple who came in behind us was also sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant. We sat at our table for about 2 minutes before our server addressed us. The couple behind us got waters before us. There was an open table with a view of the water so that couple asked their server if they could move and the server said yes. There was another table about to be available so I asked our server if we could sit there and she said to ask the hostess. I asked the hostess and she said there was a waitlist. I said the couple behind us sat at a table with a view and she said the server shouldn't have allowed that. At this point, the customer service was so horrible we decided to leave so I can't speak for the quality of the food. read more

Very busy but have it down on making everyone happy. Staff was awesome. Short staffed like every where these days and everyone working as a team did a great job all around. Oof. Ok, first off, dinner was delicious. Food was spot on start to finish, and drinks were just as good. Food runners were kind and attentive. My tip tonight reflected back of house service 100%. Our waiter...not so much. It was truly one of the worst experiences I've ever had eating out, COVID or otherwise. He displayed negligence and disrespectful behavior time and time again. I would not be leaving a negative review if not for what I saw tonight. To start off, he had his mask hanging beneath his nose, and occasionally took it off completely when talking to costumers. We were outside, but this felt totally unacceptable. I am a server myself (at a high volume, large restaurant no less), and I was genuinely shocked when I saw this behavior. To think this place offers hand sanitizer at tables but allows waiters to lower their masks is a total joke. To make matters worse, it took more than 15 minutes to just get a drink order in. He didn't even ask how we were when he dropped off waters and walked by our table multiple times even after multiple attempts to get his attention. That would've been easily acceptable as this is a busy and large restaurant, but then I realized it wasn't just us. A table behind us calmly explained to the waiter they had been waiting over 20 minutes for their food while watching other tables get their food, only to be met with a short tempered, "you do realize there are 200 people on this restaurant besides you right?" He then went on with an array of excuses in a horribly rude tone and walked away as he yelled back, "yeah I'll check on it." Again, as a server, I just wanted to give those guests a hug because of how genuinely mean he sounded. Nobody, especially not a paying customer, should be made to feel like a burden. Especially not somebody with a valid complaint! To top off this already upsetting experience, the waiter had the audacity to touch my mom after our meal when thanking us for visiting...after referring us as "girls" all night (I'm sorry, it's 2020. We're both grown women.) She is an elderly woman with health complications. We wore masks when ordering at all times, so obviously we were trying to take some precaution when eating out. I was taken aback when he felt it appropriate to touch her. Covid or otherwise, this was entirely unacceptable. I am so sorry to write a review like this, because the restaurant itself is stellar. The staff other than our server were all great(!!!), which let's me know this place cares more about costumer service than our waiter let on. As a seasoned waiter myself, I know one experience can not define a staff member..but this was more than one experience and I think you have a right to know. TLDR: great food bad service. I have been here 3 times now. 5 yrs ago, last year, and this past weekend. Every time I get something different, except for the fried mushrooms, I love those. Unfortunately, the food didn't really hold up this last time at all. I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos. The menu says it comes with rice and beans, I received chips. Blah chips at that. My fish was overlooked and not very fresh. Highly disappointing. My friend had a pulled chicken sandwich that was tasty though so I'm not sure if it is what I ordered or that they have gotten too big. I've never had to wait her before and it was a 20 minute wait this time. read more

This restaurant sits along the bank of the Arkansas River and we had great seating overlooking the river. After traveling we were both ready for something a little more healthy so we both ordered the grilled vegetable quinoa salads which were very good. This review is focused on the food. If I'd been outside, I'd likely review higher. The location is perfect if one can sit outside overlooking the river. Appetizer: Chips & Salsa. Chips were boring, not special at all. Salsa was decent. 2.5 stars. My entree: Boathouse rellenno. A different take with egg roll wrapping stuffed with green chilies and smothered in green chili. Avocado & sour cream on the side. Delicious 4.5 stars. Boyfriends entree: chicken tenders. While the meat was quality, it was dry & seasoning was a bit bland. 3.5 stars. Overall, nothing was bad. I'm attaching photos of the drink menu, there aren't too many places in town that have a variety of cocktails like they do here. My husband got a smothered burrito, which was just ehh okay. I wouldn't get it again. If you need a great cocktail, come here & get yourself a delicious margarita! The house margarita for $6 was strong and fresh. Also, my monarch wings were very tasty. This place came highly recommended but, quite frankly, I was more than a little disappointed. Since it's right by the river and has big windows and outdoor seating in the summer, it's probably a great place for drinks with friends (hubby did enjoy his prickly pear margarita) but I don't recommend it at all for dinner. The service was barely OK. I tried to offer a little bit of grace since it was Saturday night, but our server came by our table multiple times without clearing any of the dishes. When he filled our water glasses, he skipped my husband, I guess because the glass was out of his reach. My son only ate half his dinner and our server never asked if we wanted a box. We ordered wings (so-so) and also jalapeño poppers (also so-so) as appetizers for the table. They were fine but not great. However, when our bill came, we were charged an additional 50¢ for each appetizer for "both sauces." We did not specify that we wanted two sauces, nor did they ask if we wanted both sauces OR tell us there would be a charge. It seemed like a ridiculous charge, simply designed to increase the bill. Dinner was so-so as well. Most of the food was too salty, except for the rice and black beans that came with my burrito, which had less flavor than canned beans would have. Nothing was awful but nothing was worth recommending either. I do like that they are trying to be sustainable, have gotten rid of single-use plastics, etc. Food sourced locally when possible. I might come back for drinks with my husband if we visit the area in the summertime, but won't bother here with dinner. read more

The service was awesome. Our waitress went above expectation to accommodate us. My kids are little so I had two of them share the chicken fingers, she hooked us up with extra chips at no charge so they'd each have enough. After our meal, my husband ordered a rootbeer float. He asked for extra cups to give our boys a little. Not only did she bring extra cups but extra rootbeer and ice cream. As for the food, we started with hotwings, they were good, nit great hotwings, but good. I ordered the shrimp salad which was amazing. The shrimp were huge and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Great food and atmosphere for dinner overlooking the Arkansas River where we watched swimmers jumping in to the rapids and kayakers practicing how to get out of a capsized position. There was a twenty minute wait for our party of four, so we put our name in and walked the gorgeous street that has cool shops and dessert spots. They called us when our table was ready, and the service was superb! Delicious tacos (I ordered them in lettuce wraps which I love that they offered, instead of just the usual corn versus flour tortilla). Sauces were spicy and flavorful, so order your salsa on the side if you're not a fan of spicy hot. Our son ordered the burrito which was huge and could have been shared! The t-shirt shop attached to the restaurant was awesome, and we couldn't resist the sales rack. The atmosphere of the place is welcoming, vibrant, and just perfectly positioned to enjoy the River view. The mountains all atoms and the riverwalk across the street were stunning. One mountain has a white S for Salida that lights up at night, then alternates to a lit up red heart. Beautiful little town! read more

First the good part. The hostess was phenomenal, and our waitress was just about the most charming, attentive (without being intrusive) refreshing young lady ever. The drinks were exceptional. The atmosphere, out on the patio overlooking the river, was unbeatable. So now the bad part. The nachos were covered with "Velveeta Cheese" making them just a step above ballpark nachos. I could only eat a bite or two. My wife's hamburger was basically two thin, cardboard-like patties. Wow even organic ketchup!! I've been all over and I was very impressed by the pledge made by the restaurant on the menu to use local and organic products! Even at some amazing farm to table places they skip that little detail and put stupid high fructose garbage on the table. Not so at the boathouse !! With big appetites after a day of hiking, we really enjoyed the spicy chorizo mussels appetizer and the beet salad along with the cauliflower wraps and bison ribeye. This place is great. I have several *very* selective dining partners, and this place got all of our fairly picky online order correct. The food was just great. At pickup, I took a minute to watch some kayakers cruise through the rapids course just below the restaurant, very nice. The servers were all helpful and pleasant directing me to pickup at the bar down the hall. The food was on time and all correct! Seriously, not easy. A great little beer/wine store is two doors down. We visited The Boathouse twice during our visit to Salida last weekend! Our cycling club had gathered for a winter sports weekend. Guided by a local, we found a great place for our large group to eat and drink together. The service was friendly and fast, the drinks were good and the food hit the spot. The menu includes local wine, beer, unique cocktails, burgers, Mexican food, salads, chili and decent bar food. I had the blackberry mojilto, which was pretty and tasty! The Boathouse Rellenos were lightly fried egg roll wrappers stuffed with cheese and green chilies, topped with pork green chili. They were fried but still tasted light and fresh. They offer veggie green chili and red chili as well! Our second visit was our Sunday late breakfast before departing for home. Surprise! They had a Bloody Mary bar well stocked with house made bloody mix, bacon, beef stick and a nice selection of pickled veggies. They offer house infused garlic and pepper vodka. I tried the garlic and it was delicious. This visit I had the fish tacos. Again I was pleased with the freshness and favors! read more

I want to start off this review by saying that i lived in the valley for 3 years and have never experienced such blatant disrespect and racism at another restaurant. The first time I went I did not enjoy the food or the experience but i still decided to give it a second try. My white coworkers have had great experiences here, fresh food and good service. I brought my black friend to this restaurant as an intro to the valley, since he's never been and the waiter was rude, standoffish and just disrespectful. He would not make eye contact with my friend, only myself (im brown) but even then he was in a constant state annoyance and in a rush. He seemed blatantly annoyed at any sign of unsureness or questions we had. There was no smile, no warm greeting, absolutely no redeemable qualities. And he rolled his eyes at me when i said i didn't want a second drink. We both ordered med. Rare bison burgers and when the food came it was cold, well done and disgusting. At one point when the waiter asked "how everything was" he did not even stop walking. Literally asking as he was walking away. I wish I knew his name so I can call him out. Worst service of my life. I would absolutely avoid this restaurant at all costs, especially if your BIPOC. What a waste of a location. read more
