November 6, 2024, approximately 2:41 P.M. I can understand why so many restaurants are going out of business if customer service is anything like I experienced at the "Boathouse Grill" in Michigan City, IN yesterday. My two granddaughter's and I stopped there for a sandwich after shopping at the Lighthouse Mall. To say the woman that took our orders was unfriendly, is an understatement. She was an older woman with short hair. My granddaughter ordered a Patty Melt on white bread, this woman's response was "we don't have white bread." My granddaughter asked for a substitution because she doesn't like rye bread. Answer: "that's all we have." Did not offer to put it on a hamburger bun, which is white bread. I ordered a salad. I was told "no salad's today." I then ordered a fish sandwich and a cheeseburger, with two sides of mayonnaise, one for fish and one for cheeseburger. The woman who was cooking brought one side of mayonnaise. When I told her I needed another, her response "I already gave you one." The food was okay, service TERRIBLE. I would never go back. I'm in the restaurant business and would never treat customers the way we were treated yesterday. And to add insult to injury, I was charged .50 for a cup of water. Omg where do I start?!?!!?! Jason (I think) was funny from the moment we walked in, hungry and tired. Armed with menus, we headed to a table while our angry baby yelled at anyone and everyone. Ended up settling on double cheeseburgers for 2 of us, a chicken basket, and a chili cheese dog. Cheese curds and Mac n cheese bites to finish off our glorious carb laden lunch. The double cheeseburgers were MASSIVE! And perfectly done. (My dad says his could have been cooked longer, but we won't listen to the one who likes his meat burned to a crisp.) the hot dog was big and juicy, chili flavorful with just a little spice. King size orders of fries came with the burgers, and they were perfectly cooked, crispy and not overly salty. Chicken platter got a 5/10 from my picky 9 year old, which is a major win in her books! Everyone was nice, and nobody looked ready to toss the angry little toddler into the lake so that was an even bigger plus! We will definitely be coming back!! read more

Boathouse is a straightforward burger and hot dog spot for the most part, but the highlight of their menu is an excellent no-nonsense Italian beef. The gravy is a subtle, pleasing flavor, the meat is tender, and the bun has enough density to hold up. It's worth stopping in, and ordering online is easy. I'd say it's the best one in Michigan City proper that I'm aware of, and I tried both Albano's and Knuckleheads. read more

Came here after attempting to visit the Sand Dunes Beach... they were very patient as we place our orders and so accommodating with my niece's request. And so friendly when we met them at the window. This place is off the outlet and you may be wondering if you should stop here for just burger, hot dog, and fries, but this is way better than your normal fast foot. My kids loved the plain cheese burger and the two bites of leftover showed how flavorful the meat and soft the buns were. Chicago dogs were up to Chicago standard and every else tasted great. So good that I wanted to help with this review even though we are just passing by (heading back to Chicago after a long weekend at Saugatuck). read more

We were in town to view Lake Michigan and stopped by this gem. The owner was very friendly and helped point us in the right direction for perfect viewing of the lake but before the lake we had an amazing lunch. The burgers ground daily had so much flavor! My family and I have been in twice and love their food!! They took over the old Top Dog space and did a complete transformation. The restaurant is clean and the service is great. I had a hot dog the first time I visited and it was definitely worth the price. The second time, I tried the pulled pork and it was great as well. Best burger in town. Italian beef was also good, but the cheeseburger stole the show. They freshly grind the beef everyday and offer a wide variety of toppings to make the burger your way. I had blue cheese and grilled onions and it was over the top! The meat was cooked through, but not dry, and had some charring from what I imagine is a flat top grill. The brioche bun perfectly complemented the burger. If you're looking for a terrific burger experience, try Boathouse Grill! Looking forward to our next visit!! read more

They're off to a good start. My family had a Chicago dog, a cheese dog, the Italian beef, and the western burger. The burger was full of flavor and extremely tasty. I didn't think the wait time was too long at all, especially considering we arrived at the tail end of the lunch rush. read more

I don't even know what the heck they were using but, Everybody knows that for a real Chicago dog, you must use VIENNA BEEF hot dogs! Please, don't cheapen out a damn Midwest staple! I hadn't been here since they changed the names. I use to come here and get a polish and a hot dog whenever I came to the light house mall. Well the inside was very clean and redecorated since I had been here. I wasn't sure how good it was going to be so I decided to order the Hot Dog and if it was good I was going to try the Polish. I don't know why but whenever I go to a place that specialize in Hot Dogs and Polish I always get them both. The only way you can screw either one up is to buy an inferior product to save money or boil all the flavor out of it. Well I'm sad to say the hot dog was tasteless and like mush like it had been in boiling water or a steamer for hours. What a shame. I ate alone and got a Hot Dog with peppers its extra and Fries and a coke and it was like $11.50!!!! I won't be back and could you imagine if you brought three or four kids what the bill would be. I think the Hot Dog was like $4.50 and they charged me .25 cents for two peppers to go on top. So when I got home that night I had some Vienna Polish in my fridge. I brought an inch of water to a boil and turned off the flame and then put the Polish in and let it sit for 5 minutes. I had a whole Jar of sport peppers in my fridge I think I paid like $2.00 for the entire Jar. My Polish was perfect with so much flavor and it had a snap to it when I bit into it and wasn't over cooked. So I guess you don't have to go to Culinary School to make a good dog! Do Your self a favor and stay away from this place and save money. Go get a Gas Station Hot dog at Family Express or Speedway because they are better !!!! Take the whole family its affordable and better!! Come on Owners wake up and give people what they pay for. Oh the fries were pretty good that's why the two stars! read more
