Small Polaroid camera
Shan C.

Well, color me confused and mildly devastated. After 15 years of faithfully attending T Dance at the Boatslip -- armed with my trusty little one-shot Polaroid camera to capture the magic -- today, for the first time ever, I was told I couldn't bring it in. Apparently, the same camera I've brought in dozens of times over the years has suddenly become... forbidden. Meanwhile, every person in there is wielding a high-def smartphone camera capable of shooting in slo-mo, night vision, and probably space-time travel. But my charming lil' Polaroid? Too much. What exactly is the difference? One gives you a printed memory in 90 seconds. The other lets you livestream your twirl to your entire follower count. But sure, I'm the security threat. Honestly... I'm kinda heartbroken. It's tradition. It's joy. It's art. And it's how I've kept the spirit of T Dance alive all these years -- snap by snap, one instant memory at a time. Maybe next time I'll just tape a Polaroid to the back of my phone and call it "vintage filter live." Or maybe... there won't be a next time. Boatslip, what gives? #LetPolaroidsDance #TDanceTradition #DisappointedButStillServingLooks

Now you realize no visit to P-Town would be complete without an extended stop at the tea dance here. Tea may be spilled here but not served. I think the reference is to tea time since it runs between 4-7PM, but it's definitely a shoulder-to-shoulder affair for those three hours. The eye candy can be extensive but so can be the number of horny onlookers hungry to provide attention to the chosen ones with grabbable traps. The entry fee to the huge five-bar patio terrace is a paltry $10 on a warm day with a vivid sunset. Make new friends and keep the old. One is silver and the other gold. We wet our whistles on their signature cocktail, the $16 Planter's Punch, which is basically a jacked-up Tequila Sunrise with pineapple juice (photo: https://yelp.to/RYxvBlV26F). Jamie W and I had a couple of them and were feeling quite sociable if you know what I mean. We probably could've benefited from finger sandwiches and scones with clotted cream, but believe me, it wasn't that kind of tea dance. I was impressed that they offered an indoor dance floor where I saw only one senior straight couple trip the light semi-fantastic. I need to come back for the Tuesday tea dance when Mrs Roper Goes to Tea (photo: https://yelp.to/YtoTP6z5v8). I just need to remember to pack my floral caftan. BTW it's cash only. COCKTAILS - 4 stars...fully loaded with quite a kick AMBIANCE - 5 stars...gregarious, crowded and just plain fun SERVICE - 4 stars...the bartenders know their stuff TOTAL - 4 stars...the essential spot in P-Town RELATED - Exploring Provincetown? I have stayed as a guest of the Boatslip resort in the past and I have been to their Sunday Tea Dance. It's one of the largest hotels in the Provincetown area and it's the destination for Tea Dance on Sundays. Tons of people come for Tea and it's lots of fun. The rooms are a bit on the smaller size, but the staff is very nice and helpful. They have a poolside deck, a casual restaurant called the Deckside Grill, the Buoy Bar and Tea Dance. All open to the public. The Boatslip is situated on the West End of town, and it offers its hotel guests waterfront air-conditioned rooms with newly-renovated bathrooms, views of Cape Cod Bay from private balconies, on-site parking, wifi, continental breakfast, heated pool, huge sundeck and of course, complimentary admission to Tea Dance!

A party is always going on underground. $10 cover to dance My bro and me came into P Town on his catamaran so we were in town to check out the scene and have a cocktail before returning to the yacht for the evening. There is a nice outside patio at Boatslip with flowers and a front row view of the passerbys. Our bar tender was awesome and made me a delicious expresso martini and bro had a margarita.

Front bar manager is an arrogant and rude guy who insults customers and talks to bar clients like he is doing a favor to customers. He also refused to allow our small service dog at the front outdoor patio even though state law allows service dog in outside bar patio. Please be aware of this arrogant Caucasian server in the bar. The woman manager is equally rude and we won't be visiting this place again given we have so many wonderful and dog friendly places in P-Town. This place does not make customers feel welcome and treats them with shocking disrespect. There are so many awesome other options in this beautiful town to avoid this overpriced and overrated bar.

View from the deck

Do you like a big deck? Because the deck here is pretty big. And it has a pool, along with a great view. There's a small dance floor inside, but you're in P-town, so why wouldn't you enjoy the sun and the salt air on the deck? This is the place to go for "tea". There is usually a cover, although locals get a discount. Beer is reasonable, bartenders are friendly. Music is pretty good. Coming here for drinks is fun. I don't know about staying here but if you do, be prepared for a lively and noisy atmosphere from 4-7 every day.

I was super excited to stay here. I'd heard so much about this place and my husband stayed here like 12-15 years ago. That being said he had a few requests: He wanted to be sure we had a waterfront room. He wanted to also be sure were weren't ground level. So when booking the room we were sure to relay those requests. They booked room 217 for us. A king size bed second level obviously waterfront. I'll post pictures. We arrived roughly 2 hours early and hey were happy to allow us to check in early. So we dropped our bags into the room and headed to lunch. The room was incredibly comfy. The room was clean, they provided basic toiletries. The towels were large and clean. The bed was verrrry comfy. Mattress was great! The room came with a small fridge and obviously cups and an ice bucket for the in room cocktails. Lots of storage for the long term vacationer. There was an iron and and iron board so you can always look presentable. The heat and a/c was one of the ductless units and had a easy to use remote. The deck had hairs and a table. ALL ROOMS ARE SMOKE FREE. Just a heads up regarding the pool area. Dance music starts at 9am. You will hear it, whether your door to deck is open. It's a gay resort...certainly there will be music. Every person we encountered was friendly when checking in. Irma was incredibly nice. We will stay again.

Boat Slip Deck

The Boat Slip Resort & Beach Club was a definite win for my wife and I. I have to be honest; we were cautiously optimistic after hearing from friends that it was generally known for being a "hook up" hotel for men. While I can't speak to that, I can say that we were very pleased with our experience and will stay here again. We went during "Women's Week" (October 14-20, 2019 - 35th Anniversary) so perhaps the female population was in abundance during this particular stay! The reservation was easily made online and check-in was a breeze. The staff members were excellent, very pleasant and always willing to help. The room we stayed in was a queen room which does not include parking (but we knew that from reading the details on the website before booking - King size rooms include parking) although the public lot is within walking distance and was only $6.00 flat rate in the off season - $25.00/day in the regular season. The room was clean but could use some updating for those of us who like a more modern look and feel, but they are 1980's motel type, which seems to be part of the appeal. The bathroom was small but seemed to have an updated shower with good water pressure and temperature. The bathroom had a shower and toilet while separated from the sink and mirror which was just outside the bathroom door and in the main room area but separate by a nice shuttered wall which doubled as a closet area for hanging coats, jackets or other clothing. Basic toiletries were provided. There wasn't a fan that we could find for the bathroom so our room fogged up after each shower but not a big deal in my opinion. The room came with a small fridge, cups and an ice bucket. There was plenty of storage in the dresser, a wall mounted TV, two chairs and a table. We had a deck and the view was AMAZING! We had a side view of the water and beach, which was perfect for us. There was an iron and an ironing board. The heat and a/c was one of the ductless units and had an easy to use remote. Wi-Fi access was available. The Boat Slip Resort is known for their Tea Dance which took place from 4-7pm each day of our stay. You could hear the music from our room on the first floor but again, we knew about this going in so it wasn't a big deal for us. And, admission is free for those that stay at the Boat Slip! The deck was HUGE and overlooked the beach and water. The deck area included a pool (closed during the tea dance), designated smoking area, a covered tent with heaters, high top tables and stools. Just inside the covered tent area was an indoor dance floor and another bar. Needless to say it was a good time, even for those of us who don't actually dance!

Wequassett has been for many years among the best properties I go to in the US (or internationally…read morefor that matter). Every single time we visited, the service has been impeccable and I find it hard to think about any other resort that can get even close to Wequassett. The grounds are perfectly kept and the rooms have been recently renovated. And although, there's a trend even with classic high-end resorts (St. Regis, J.W., Ritz-Carlton) to make their renovations a little too modern for my taste, Wequassett successfully kept their old school charm. We always stay at their Signature Water View King rooms (and book well in advance as there's only a few of these) so I can't speak of other room types. The amenities are flawless and even though the main pool gets VERY crowded during summer weekends, the pool attendant always found 2 chairs for us. My only recommendation for this property is to have a backup plan for the main pool. Perhaps installing a deck and adding some more chairs there to accommodate more guests that prefer the beach vs. the pool.

Sincerely the best of any resort we've stayed at -Genuinely friendly staff -The cleaning crew was phenomenal and didn't miss a spot The not-so-good: -Paper thin walls. We were woken up multiple nights because the upstairs guests were walking around. Yes, plain footsteps - not even stomping - were very audible. For close to 1k a night, this shouldnt have happened. My cheap grad school duplex apartment didn't even have walls this thin! -Friction prevented us from giving the resort more money. There's room service but no menu in the room and it wasn't easily found online either. And we were so ready to drop a good amount of money on poolside drinks and food but nobody waited on us both times we were at the pool. (They did happen to wait on the social media star who was present, which was very obvious, and we made eye contact with another family who shrugged because they hadn't been waited on either.) And finally the coffee shop closed at noon. We would have happily patronized the shop for a treat and a coffee and were disappointed to find it closed so early. -Our perception was that there was nothing going on at the Wequassett. We stayed in June (and received the May newsletter; perhaps that would've given us more info if we had the correct one?) We had expected the poolside bar to be open. Maybe some live music. Smores for the kids by the fire (we would've purchased this.) So many opportunities for improvement! We stayed at the cliff house in Maine last year and there was a number displayed around the resort that you could text and they'd send a message with info about was going on at the hotel that week! Such a memorable touch - Wequasset could consider something like this. All in all, not awful, but not blow-your-socks-off fantastic, either. Just plain average in the realm of resorts.

BED BUG NIGHTMARE - Health Risk, Hours of Cleanup, and Management That Doesn't Care…read more On our second night at this hotel, we discovered the unthinkable: bed bugs in our room -- confirmed by urgent care. We immediately alerted the front desk, only to be told to "send an email." No urgency. No concern. Staff admitted they had no authority to help, and the manager was nowhere to be found. They moved us to the room right next door, and then -- unbelievably -- proceeded to fumigate the infested room while we were next to it. We spent seven exhausting hours doing laundry, sanitizing every surface, and trying to make sure we didn't take the infestation home with us. After multiple attempts to reach the manager, we finally heard back two days later. Her response? There was "nothing she could do" beyond offering us quarters for the laundry and to cover our urgent care copay. No refund. No real apology. No accountability. We found clear evidence of bed bugs between the sheets and mattress. It was disgusting, traumatic, and completely avoidable. But even worse than the infestation itself was the total failure of management to take responsibility or make this right. This used to be one of my favorite places to stay. But now, after being treated like this during a health crisis, I can't believe how little they cared. If you value your health, peace of mind, or even basic human decency -- do not stay here.

It was 100% open and the main bed was directly in the mini kitchen area. So that meant no privacy from our kids. There's no toaster or a microwave but there's a stove that can boil water in seconds. Since there's no rugs and no small area rugs, the floor gets incredibly sandy. I would recommend bringing a broom or swiffer.

The drive to Plumb Island through Newburyport was the perfect introduction to our romantic, north shore getaway. Being from Phoenix, we look forward to our cold, winter adventure each year and neither of us had been anywhere north of Boston before. Before our arrival, communication with the Blue was informative and hand a personal feel. Obviously, the Blue caters to summer beach-goers, and the reserved parking area near the hotel would definitely be a huge plus for folks competing for parking spots, but in winter, there are very few people or cars on the entire island. The Blue is a quaint little hotel nestled on the beach in a neighborhood of New England beach homes. We were happily greeted at the front desk by Blue staff and the General Manager. They tendered to our every need and surprised us with a fabulous fruit and chocolate anniversary gift waiting for us in the room. The room was beautiful with a classic and modern beach feel. Sliding glass doors open up to a wooden deck with a fabulous view of the Atlantic Ocean. We could hear the crashing waves while sitting inside beside the gas fireplace to read. It was magical! Also magical was the bed! We haven't slept that well in years! The bed was so comfortable and my wife loved the pillows so much that she bought the very same ones for home the day we returned. And don't forget the two hot tubs! There is nothing quite as enjoyable as relaxing in a steaming, bubbling hot tub while it's snowing all around you. Honestly, the "hot tubs available" filter was probably what highlighted the Blue to me during my search for this trip. One hot tub is on the second floor deck, overlooking the beach and the second is hidden under the pine trees at the end of a short sidewalk across the street from the main building. Both were large enough for probably 6 people, clean and well maintained. Again, it was February so we had them all to our crazy selves the whole week. The beach is beautiful! There is direct, private access from the second floor of the Blue, via a wooden boardwalk. The beach is sandy with very few rocks. I didn't see any seaweed or anything washing up on shore, but it was February, so I didn't expect to see a whole lot of anything living coming out of the water. Every morning we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise over the ocean while we drank some local coffee delivered direct to the room. Oh yeah, breakfast! Each morning the staff dropped off and adorable wicker basket with fresh, local breakfast offerings plus that wonderful carafe of coffee. We had different breakfast each day, to include quiche, overnight oats, fresh fruit, biscuits, and bacon. Just the right amount for the two of us and we couldn't wait to see what breakfast surprise would arrive each morning. Although Plumb Island may feel remote from the business of the Boston-metro area, the location was great for dipping down to Salem without hitting any traffic, or popping up to New Hampshire for a sleighride through the forest. One morning, after a small nor'easter blew through, our SUV got stuck in the parking lot snow. No worries! The General Manager of the Blue came out to hail down a plow and personally helped push us out. Now that's service! Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Blue -Inn on the Beach to anyone looking for a romantic beach getaway. If you're looking for a less Metropolitan vacation with the proximity to get to Boston in under an hour, the Blue can't be beat. We will definitely be coming back. Maybe even in the summer next time!

Review: A Beautiful Day Thanks to Family, but Major Venue Letdowns…read moreThe Good: Our wedding day ended up being amazing, but that was entirely thanks to our incredible friends and family who pitched in, rather than the venue itself. I also want to give a shoutout to Cathy and Kara, who were trying very hard under difficult circumstances. The Challenges: We are a very laid-back couple (this was a second wedding for both of us), but the sheer number of issues we experienced was unacceptable. It felt very clear that a leadership conference happening at the resort was the priority over our wedding. Room Accommodations & Storage: We booked the Jimmy Buffet Suite, but they gave it to someone else, forcing us to stay in a different room on our wedding night. Our room wasn't ready until 3:50 PM for a 4:00 PM ceremony, giving us no time to move our belongings. We were also promised a secure room to store our centerpieces and decor upon arrival, which did not exist. Ceremony Disasters: The ceremony space was unkempt. The grass wasn't mowed, and ant hills were left intact--I actually got ants in my wedding dress! Infuriatingly, they mowed the grass and swept the ant piles the very next day. Furthermore, there was no signage directing our guests, causing people to miss the beginning and walk in late. Reception & Setup: We were delayed in setting up the reception room, and when we finally got in, the room was split down the middle and still had trash in it. Staff originally told us we had to set up our own ceremony chairs until we pushed back. Some staff members were seen hanging out and laughing instead of working until our guests intervened. Seating & Table Layout: My husband actually had to provide the staff with the printed room and table layout--a layout the venue had designed and sent to us themselves! Even with the map in hand, they numbered the tables incorrectly and left paper shipping stickers on them. Because of their error, our wedding party, who was supposed to be seated right by the dance floor, ended up seated the furthest away. Food & Beverage Oversights: We had a special top tier of our cake specifically for our son, and the staff never cut or served it. For our 40-person rehearsal dinner, they moved the room at the last minute and didn't update the directory board, leaving guests confused. We also ordered food service twice for my pregnant Maid of Honor, which never arrived; the front desk later told us they don't even have room service. Resort Amenities & Billing: Advertised pool amenities were closed. One morning, breakfast stopped at 8:00 AM, and we overheard staff refusing to refill the bacon early in the morning. Finally, I was explicitly told our final bill would be adjusted for guests who couldn't attend, and that never happened. The Verdict: It seems like this establishment has a corporate issue--staff are stretched way too thin and generally don't seem happy to be working there. There was a complete lack of management visibility; I couldn't tell you who the manager is, what their name is, or what they look like. I hesitated to write this because I didn't want to revisit the stress, but future couples need to know. Because we are so laid back, we rolled with the punches, but I cannot imagine how devastating this experience would be for a first-time bride or someone expecting a seamless day.
