The entire staff here is extremely friendly and informative! We didn't stay here but ate here at the bar and had so much fun. The food was FANTASTIC as is almost all the food in P town, we discovered. Maybe a little too much but at least we could walk back to our resort. Lmao! Meals continue to be outstanding at the Red Inn in Provincetown. We had a reservation and were offered the option of indoor or outdoor seating on this beautiful spring day on the harbor in Provincetown. The restaurant space at this property is stunning inside and out, and the views of the harbor are always breathtaking. We were seated by a smiling and friendly hostess. We started off with a Negroni mocktail and a Cosmopolitan. Both cocktails were expertly prepared and delicious. Our first shared course was oysters en brochette. These were Wellfleet oysters wrapped in bacon that appeared to be battered and fried. They were decadent, very delicious, and served with a Creole mustard sauce. For our entrées, we chose from the à la carte menu, which included grilled salmon with a citrus beurre blanc sauce and a grilled lobster tail from a 2-pound lobster served with drawn butter. The side dishes we chose were roasted potatoes, asparagus, and mascarpone grits. While eating, we both continually commented on how perfectly everything was cooked and how delicious everything tasted. It was amazing. The only miss here was the mascarpone grits. They had no flavor, and the expected creaminess from the mascarpone was lost on us. We asked our server for some salt and pepper and added it to the grits, which greatly improved the flavor profile. Our desserts looked and tasted just as amazing as the rest of our meal. The crème brûlée was delicious, and the flourless chocolate torte with raspberry sauce was amazing. I included photos, but we devoured the chocolate torte so quickly that all I can show is an empty plate. The service was a bit disappointing. It was slow and inattentive, which surprised us because the restaurant was not busy, there were a lot of staff, and there were many empty tables around us. The interaction with our server was very friendly, however, and she seemed very nice. Every time I dine at the Red Inn, I wonder why I don't spend more time there. Enjoyed this lovely little bar seating, talking with some locals and other tourists. Ordered some delicious seafood from the raw bar service. $2 or $3 each shrimp and oyster so fresh we really enjoyed with a nice Pinot noir. The bartenders we both very friendly and chatty which we appreciated. It was rather pricey for our appetizer stop. Came here for dinner and had a great time. We were seated beach side and it was absolutely lovely. It was a bit windy so they put up some plastic shields to help guard against the wind and keep it warm for us. That was a nice touch. Our server was great and was super attentive and very friendly. I got a dirty martini and he asked about our olive choice and recommended a blue cheese olive which we opted in for, but then later found out it was a $4 upcharge which was disappointing. The martini itself was $16 which I thought was a great price. For an appetizer we tried the crabmeat remoulade which ended up being kind of like a crab mayo salad. It was definitely tasty but not what I was expecting. We also got the wedge salad which was good, but nothing special. For entrees we got the scallops which came with 5 smaller scallops instead of the normal three regular sized ones. They were good, but I feel like the sear on them could have been better. The orzo they came with was really tasty though. We also got the filet mignon which was really great. The mashed potatoes were top notch and the steak was cooked perfectly. I've said this a million times before and I will say it again and shout it from the rooftops, I LOVE THE RED INN. I celebrate all of my birthdays here and I've celebrated all of them since I first started traveling to cape cod 7 years ago. I ordered oysters to start this time around and the steak for my main course. I didn't' order anything for dessert because I'm not a dessert person but every time I am in love with how juicy the steak is and with how delicious the oysters are. I'm also a big fan of the ceviche, the crispy duck, the lobster salad, salad options. Our servers are also always professional, really kind and super patient with our nearly consistent super large parties. They are also super attentive with refilling our water and soda when we order. I've been to The Red Inn in Ptown more times than I care to admit (mainly because I don't want anyone figuring out how much of my bank account has gone to martini's). And honestly? I cannot put into words how amazing this place is... but I'll try, because that's literally the point of a review. The food during both brunch and dinner is out of this world... like, "should we be alerting NASA?" level good. But for this review, we're talking brunch, and brunch here is not just a meal, it's an event. First off, the service is always spot on. You're treated like you're the most important person in Ptown... which, let's face it, is a competitive title. I've never dined inside because every time I go, the weather is so perfect that I have to sit out on the deck, sip my drink, and listen to the water like I'm starring in my own coastal lifestyle commercial. There's also a live jazz band during brunch, which sets the mood beautifully ... think "classy Cape Cod" but with just enough Ptown flair that you wouldn't be surprised if someone in sequins walked by waving. The food? 10/10. Here's what we had: The Croissant (basically an entire omelette with cheese tucked lovingly inside a gorgeous, flaky croissant). I highly recommend...it's the kind of breakfast sandwich that makes you rethink all your life choices that didn't involve ordering it sooner. I cannot tell you how amazing of a meal, service, and experience we had. Our waiter is astounding, Josh is a real gem, knowledgeable, communicative, caring, and hilarious. My husband and I will remember this dinner for the rest of our lives. He came in and worked "with joy in his heart" even if there were some "frowny faces" among in the dining room. The lamb chops were some of the best I have ever had. Please remember, some people who write bad reviews can just be cranky pants and feel moved enough to be a wrinkle on the internet. I am sure some reviews are valid, but those reviews were nothing like the experience we had. If everyone could go and enjoy the beauty of this restaurant with gratitude, intention, and a little joy in your heart, you just might create the experience you were looking for. I'd heard such great things about the red inn for years and finally decided to try it. I left feeling a bit disappointed. We arrived 30 minutes earlier than our reservation to get a drink outside. But for some reason, the outside server walking around taking orders went to everyone except us to take drink orders...even people walking in after us got their orders taken. It was almost as if he was avoiding us? Very odd...so we sat there for 30 minutes and couldn't even get a drink. For dinner, my husband got the steak and I got the scallops. My scallops were overcooked and hard and the orzo tasted like straight wine...it had not been cooked off at all. My husbands steak was undercooked but decent otherwise. The worst part of the experience was how loud and overwhelming the restaurant was. We couldn't hear each other over the loud tables around us. As always, The Red Inn didn't disappoint! The quality of the food was exceptional and the service perfect, but there are a few areas of opportunity. The Cajun Shrimp dish was great, but it wasn't extraordinary. The dish could have benefited from some finessing, like 5 larger shrimp instead of 6 small ones. Having them buried in the sauce really masked the flavor of shrimp, and would have been better if they were grilled and placed on top with a light splash of sauce. The haddock was overcooked, but the server handled it graciously, and within 7 minutes, the dish was re-fired with a beautiful new piece. No fuss. Done. The cocktail, called a Tea-Tini delivered a nice start to the dinner, the Lobster was flawless and priced well according to my husband who said it was about the size of a lobster roll's worth of lobster, so that makes sense. It was superb and fresh. The Crème Brûlée was phenomenal, and I guarantee, we are never not going to book a dinner there when we're in town. I highly recommend. read more

I've had some really great dinners here, unfortunately, the other night wasn't one of them. The kitchen timing was totally messed up. They brought out the first two courses at the same time (raw bar and soup & salad), then showed up with the main courses just as we literally finished the apps--with the empty plates still not cleared, no where to put the dinners on the table. This wasn't the waiters fault, as we heard him say, "who fired this!" as he rushed over to clear the table. Food was okay, but broccolini was cold and the french fries were limp and not hot either. We were celebrating a birthday and didn't want to complain...focused on our company and the great water view instead. And then the bill arrived. This was my first dinner at Red Inn. I have been 2-3x for happy hour. Firstly, the spot is magical. Tucked in the quiet West End, the grounds and setting is really special. The ocean views are splendid. Secondly, service is flawless. Our server (she did not provide her name) was the consummate professional. She guided our choices and ensured our experience was wonderful. We ordered Lobster Corn Soup, Wellfleet Steamed Littlenecks and Shrimp and Grits. I had a lovely Sancerre (great pour) and my partner had a rum cocktail that he loved. The soup fell short as it lacked flavor and had only a bit of corn. The tender lobster was generous. My littlenecks were good. I did not love my partner's shrimp dish but he enjoyed it. Our server offered us a complime tary bread pudding dessert as we were celebrating our 12th anniversary. Highly recommend this restaurant for a lovely evening with great food. We went on a rainy night and the free parking lot across the street was very welcomed to save a couple bucks and a walk in the rain. The ambiance in the inn was cozy yet elevated. We felt like we were having a special dinner at a family members home. We had the soup of the day that was well balanced and tasted very fresh. My husband had the cod that he said was also very good. The Red Inn is an iconic hotel and restaurant in Ptown. But that's about where the best of this place stops. We had reservations on June 29 and we were ten minutes early. We were greeted by the hostess with "I guess you'd like to be seated early." Our waiter arrived and my first thought was - i think we have a great server. When i ordered my drink, which was one of their specials, the waiter literally snarled at me. We ordered and the food was epically disappointing. Both my partner and I had a dish that came with green beans / they were cold. And the potatoes that came with my fish were also cold - clearly precooked and not warmed before being served. With so many great options in Ptown being treated disrespectfully and cold food makes this place just not worth the hefty prices. The oysters and clams were great. Beet salad, beets were kind of flavorless - disappointing. Next were the mains - cod with potatoes, green beans and bacon - would have been great if the cod had not been overcooked. Another person had seafood pasta - murdered crawfish swinging in too much sauce. At least the crème brûlée for dessert was good. Service was fine, though we lacked the proper silverware on various occasions. Restaurant review: What a wonderful night! Here are my thoughts after dining for the first time. (September 2023) First of all, Jonny and Stephanie are amazing. Drinks and oysters - the dirty martini is the perfect balance of brine and juice and olives and vodka. I always get a "Dirty Kettle" and compliments to the bartender and the server for bringing them out perfectly timed to pair with the oysters. (And yes we got bread and butter perfectly timed just before). Food is sublime: Highly recommend the crawfish seafood fresh pasta special and the duck, after either the lobster sliders or the soup. We went for the Lobster and Corn chowder as a second course after wellfleet oysters. Soup was rich, meaty, and just the right level of tomato essence and spice. Food is fresh, delicious and five star service for everything from plating to execution and thoughtful clearing. Intrinsically sophisticated, yet approachable and friendly: that's the vibe I got. Ask for Stephanie or Tommy as your server.(both amazing, we had Stephanie for the evening) and make sure to see if Jonny is the bartender who can truly surprise you with his skills of custom drinks. Above and Beyond: Special shout out to Jonny for making the perfect dirty martini to go with my wellfleet oysters, yes i am saying it again because it was *that* good. Well we were blown away last night with the best meal of our Provincetown trip - and we did the standard stations of the cross ... Sal's, Pepe's, Freeman's, and ofc Canteen. From Red Inn, we ordered the crabmeat remoulade with Caesar salad + fried oysters to start. Then the delectable duck with seafood pasta. We were so pleased with each dish. Crabmeat remoulade: so fresh tasting crafted into a generous tower. Caesar: just the right amount of dressing, not too heavy (though the oysters could have been saltier or better seasoned IMO). Duck: out of this world. They combine a half leg of smoked duck (breast/thigh/all), wrap it back together underneath the duck skin, then serve this spherical treat with a jalapeño, Parmesan bread pudding !!(would make a tasty Christmas meal - I'm dying for the recipe). And finally; the seafood salad: homemade pasta with a perfectly balanced vodka(like) sauce. We had just returned from Europe for a bit and feel like we had our bearings on tasty pasta. We were very impressed with Red Inn, their smart fusion of creole and cap cuisine shined brightest. Service was very nice and complemented the food. But the food was the star. read more

The Red Inn is in a lovely part of town and the views are sensational, which is why we made a reservation. We called several days ahead and managed an 8pm reservation outside overlooking the views. We received several texts asking us to confirm the reservation, which we did. We even called ahead an hour beforehand to reconfirm. When we arrived, we were greeted and take to our table. The host was surprised to see another couple at our table, who had obviously just been seated. She then said that she would try to find an interior table by the bar. When I protested, she said that it would be at least 15 minutes for a table to open. We were eventually shown to a two-top right in a very high traffic area. It took about another 10 minutes before a very gruff waiter came to the table. He asked if we wanted water. Another 10 minutes. When he finally came to take our drink order, we wanted to put in an appetizer order. He refused saying that we had to put our order in all at the same time. Another 10 minutes. Finally, when we were permitted to order, he was resistant to answering any questions. As feared, our appetizer, soups and main dishes all arrived around the same time. When I tried to order a second glass of wine, the waiter was clearly annoyed. We were not offered dessert. The lobster tail was so small that it was rubbery and too difficult to eat. The gazpacho lacked flavor and did not have any of the traditional toppings. The cod was too watery and undercooked. Dinner for two came to $160. Was this just a bad night at the Red Inn? read more

I advise reading the many poor reviews on the restaurant's service, and warn of truly mediocre food. We, too, suffered a rude and unhelpful waiter and over a 2 hour wait for entrees to arrive. Our cod and scallops arrived overcooked, tasting of rubber and our duck was foul-tasting of cheap pulled pork. Even our drink was wrong-instead of a tequila soda I was served a nasty tequila tonic. When we reported our meal's many issues to the manager, she was passive aggressive, equally rude like our server, and still charged us for an overcooked dish we sent back and did not eat. read more

This restaurant is SO cute, the building is more than 200 years old, which is wild, the food was delicious, the waiting times from the time you sit to the time you get drinks and finally order the food were a little too much, the whole dinner took like 3 hours which is a lot but at least we enjoyed each others company! I had the seafood pasta, and it was perfect! I also tried the coconut shrimp and lobster chowder, both tasty! The service was excellent but slow. Had an okay meal at The Red Inn recommended by our innkeeper. We started with cocktails - a cucumber breeze, Tanqueray and tonic and a Whistle Pig neat - and progressed to a very nice Torre de Golbán tempranillo with our meal. The gazpacho was excellent, very fresh tasting and spicy, paired with small Caesar salads. The pan-fried cod was good and not greasy, buy the seafood linguini and the scallops were both okay, not great. Dessert was a serviceable Key lime pie, and cheesecake with raspberry.
