My Dining companion ordered the Western breakfast sandwich on rye bread with hashbrowns, smothered in sautéed onions. It was a very generous portion, and ultimately he took about half of it home to enjoy later today. This was the first time I've ordered the BLT Club on rye bread, and it definitely will not be the last time. This club sandwich was gigantic, and came with a very generous plate. Crispy french fries. You know the kind they're about thick as a man's finger, pillowy, soft inside and crunchy on the outside. I truly enjoyed my cup of fresh coffee, I made it bulletproof with butter! Although the restaurant was very busy, waitresses were knocking it out of the ballpark with their speedy service I have a special place in my heart for Greek restaurants. They seem to bend over backwards to present warm and friendly atmosphere. It seems like no one's a stranger, and everyone's your friend!

There are 657 Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores operating across the United States. I visited one…read moreof them today. Why? These were unusual circumstances. I had some time between appointments and needed coffee and a bite to eat. Plus, I always wanted to check this place out. Now, I'm still debating with myself. Why would I say anything bad about this restaurant? Hello! It's a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store :). What did I expect? I even knew the coffee would be bad, but the price was a real shocker. The last time I had coffee like that, it cost maybe two dollars, no more, and that included refills. I never eat breakfast out. Never, unless I'm traveling. I ordered an Egg Sandwich, two farm fresh eggs served on seared sourdough bread with tomato slices and no mayo. It comes with one classic side. I chose Hashbrown Casserole. The eggs were delicious. The bread wasn't anything close to a 'real' sourdough, but it was actually seared with flavorful butter, and I enjoyed it. The tomato wasn't the best, but salt and pepper came to the rescue. I appreciated that everything was under-seasoned. It's much easier just to add more salt and pepper. It was a very basic type of food. My partner got a little bit wilder with his choices. How about Grandpa's Country Fried Breakfast :). Two eggs and country fried steak with sawmill gravy, served with biscuits and more sawmill gravy and one classic side. He chose Hashbrown Casserole as well. Do you know what sawmill gravy is? "Sawmill gravy is a hearty Southern white gravy made by creating a roux from pork sausage or bacon drippings and flour, then whisking in milk. The Origins: the name 'sawmill gravy' dates back to 19th-century logging and sawmill camps. Cooks needed to provide an inexpensive, calorie-dense breakfast for laborers". At first, we criticized the gravy thinking it was a skimpy white sausage gravy. We had no idea sawmill gravy is something different. Now we know. Our server was good. The dining rooms were heavily decorated. The choice of music was just like at the Cabela's store. All in all, two breakfasts (including a simple egg sandwich) and bad coffee for a total of 40 dollars with tip was definitely not worth it for me. I've heard their pancakes are the best, but pancakes are not really my thing. I'll never forget the blueberry pancakes that my Yelp Friend Dan B. shared a photo of a while back :). They looked sumptuous. There were a decent number of customers, so this place is a popular spot. I didn't care about the store, either.

Fast forward to present day, I still love the concept of the store with the restaurant connected in one spot. But I do remember the food being a little bit better. Now it has been awhile since I was last here. But we went this week in hopes that it was still as good as we remembered. I was a little disappointed. We had a water spill on the table. There were no napkins anywhere and we waited awhile before a server was able to bring some over. Not a big deal but like...why can't we have napkins on the table? The food was fine. The chicken and dumplings were the star of the show here. Always have been. The steak was a bold choice but I wanted to see how it turned out. Ordered it medium, came to the table well done. It had a good seasoning and the shrimp were good but definitely not how you want a steak. To be honest, the best part of the visit was the store. Everyone found something in there that they liked and we even ended up bringing home a peg game too. The vibe here feels good but the food and service were a little lacking. Definitely felt like we might be back just for the shop in the future.

Was really let down by cleanliness, service, and food offerings. 75-80% of this breakfast buffet is carbohydrates!!! Food offerings included.....Frozen bag hash browns, pancakes, biscuits, french toast, bread slices, cereal, muffins, danishes. LOTS & LOTS of carbohydrate options to fill up the guests strategically so it doesn't cost the restaurant much to put on the buffet. - NO BAGELS - NO WAFFLES - NO FLAVORED SYRUPS (for pancakes) - Blueberry? Strawberry? - NO FRESH STRAWBERRIES - NO WHIPPED CREAM - NO SALAD BAR - NO SEAFOOD (ie. shrimp, salmon) - NO FRESH WHOLE FRUIT (BANANAS), etc. - NO DESSERT TABLE - NO MIMOSAS OR BREAKFAST COCKTAILS The protein they offered was very limited: Flat frozen sausage patties, sausage gravy (to go with the biscuits) however it did not have a lot of sausage in it, bacon slices, and some ham lunch meat slices cut in halves, scrambled egg, pre-fryed fried eggs. They also had cut up fruit and rice pudding. I thought being that this was Alton's (and they are known for Greek food) that they might've had a salad bar or even some Greek marinated chicken that they were offering on a warming station? Nope. Overall, our entire family's experience and perception of Alton's Brunch was pushing it to describe it as mediocre. The breakfast buffet was extremely limited in the food offering section not to mention there were flies flying around all of the food at the buffet table (inside the building)-GROSS!! Service was not attentive/severely lacking. We were waiting a long time for a waitress to even initially come to our table to offer drinks when we first arrived. Will not be returning. I think just seeing the flies flying around the food totally turned me off. Head to the ROYCROFT in East Aurora - it's a lot nicer, cleaner, service is top notch and it is ABSOLUTELY worth the higher price point!

But we have noticed a definite change in the menu items, and no doubt it is an attempt to rescue the business' bottom line. The menu it self has shrunk considerably in recent months. It wasn't that long ago when you ordered roast beef, you got something that was hand carved roast beef. I will be thinking twice about visiting Alton's in the future.

I arrived around 1:15 PM, and when I was greeted at the host stand, I was told I could sit at the bar. I mentioned that I preferred a table, and the response was that they closed at 2:00 PM. I was honestly about to leave, but I was very hungry and didn't feel like searching for another restaurant, so I decided to stay. Thankfully, once I was seated, the experience completely turned around. I mentioned that I had recently had throat surgery and needed something soft to eat. The woman was kind enough to bring me out some soup to sample. The soup was delicious, and I really appreciated her going out of her way to let me try it, even though I ultimately decided not to order it. I ended up getting the French toast, and it was light, fluffy, and delicious! The prices are also very fair, especially considering the quality and portion. I do wish the beginning of my experience had been a little warmer, because the initial interaction almost had me leaving. However, the service improved, the food was wonderful, and I'm glad I stayed. Overall, a great meal at a fair price, and I will definitely be back!
