There are 657 Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores operating across the United States. I visited one of them today. Why? These were unusual circumstances. I had some time between appointments and needed coffee and a bite to eat. Plus, I always wanted to check this place out. Now, I'm still debating with myself. Why would I say anything bad about this restaurant? Hello! It's a Cracker Barrel Old Country Store :). What did I expect? I even knew the coffee would be bad, but the price was a real shocker. The last time I had coffee like that, it cost maybe two dollars, no more, and that included refills. I never eat breakfast out. Never, unless I'm traveling. I ordered an Egg Sandwich, two farm fresh eggs served on seared sourdough bread with tomato slices and no mayo. It comes with one classic side. I chose Hashbrown Casserole. The eggs were delicious. The bread wasn't anything close to a 'real' sourdough, but it was actually seared with flavorful butter, and I enjoyed it. The tomato wasn't the best, but salt and pepper came to the rescue. I appreciated that everything was under-seasoned. It's much easier just to add more salt and pepper. It was a very basic type of food. My partner got a little bit wilder with his choices. How about Grandpa's Country Fried Breakfast :). Two eggs and country fried steak with sawmill gravy, served with biscuits and more sawmill gravy and one classic side. He chose Hashbrown Casserole as well. Do you know what sawmill gravy is? "Sawmill gravy is a hearty Southern white gravy made by creating a roux from pork sausage or bacon drippings and flour, then whisking in milk. The Origins: the name 'sawmill gravy' dates back to 19th-century logging and sawmill camps. Cooks needed to provide an inexpensive, calorie-dense breakfast for laborers". At first, we criticized the gravy thinking it was a skimpy white sausage gravy. We had no idea sawmill gravy is something different. Now we know. Our server was good. The dining rooms were heavily decorated. The choice of music was just like at the Cabela's store. All in all, two breakfasts (including a simple egg sandwich) and bad coffee for a total of 40 dollars with tip was definitely not worth it for me. I've heard their pancakes are the best, but pancakes are not really my thing. I'll never forget the blueberry pancakes that my Yelp Friend Dan B. shared a photo of a while back :). They looked sumptuous. There were a decent number of customers, so this place is a popular spot. I didn't care about the store, either. read more

Friendly greeting when we entered. Very quick service, but not great follow up. Mom always loves her Fried Chicken and greens. Decaf coffee was cold. Biscuits were fresh, but cornbread seemed hard cold and stale. First time ever trying Catfish and I went with the Cajun broiled.... It was fantastic!!! I would definitely make this a go to order for myself. Broccoli was also really good for broccoli. Okra was cold and blah. I'd go for double Broccoli next time. Got free Chocolate cake with the app for my birthday. I took it to go. It was delicious - very fudgey and rich. My server, Bri, was wonderful -- friendly, patient, and genuinely kind. I ordered the Uncle Herschel plate and it was absolutely delicious. The coffee was strong and constantly refilled. It's just not a trip to the States without a stop at Cracker Barrel, so towards the end of our Buffalo day trip, we popped on over to the only location in the area. It was an off time but it was nevertheless pretty busy. I knew exactly what I wanted before I even sat down, though, which made ordering a snap. I went with the always-reliable U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish - 2 Pieces ("Two cornmeal crusted and fried fillets with tartar sauce for dipping plus three hushpuppies and choice of two or three Country Sides. Served with hand-rolled Buttermilk Biscuits or Corn Muffins"), and I got the Fried Okra and Hashbrown Casserole as my two sides. It arrived soon after and was just as fresh and delicious as I was hoping. There's just something about the way they prepare this dish that I find irresistible, from that delectable seasoning/batter to the crispy edges to the flaky fish. It's one of my favorite fish dishes ever, pretty much. And the two sides didn't disappoint either, especially the okra, which was piping hot and super flavorful. Good time for a last minute birthday dinner. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress was very pleasant, attentive and cheerful! I ordered the big easy steak & shrimp dinner with macaroni and cheese with a side of mashed potatoes w/gravy. I was delighted with the portion size, I just wasn't 100% fond of the sauce. Next time I will order on the side. It was pretty good. My sister ordered a breakfast entree (pancakes, bacon and eggs). My stepdad had the catfish w/turnip greens and macaroni and cheese. They finally brought back the campfire chicken and I was happy and disappointed at the same time. I noticed a few changes and it just didn't taste the same, you noticed that they didn't take the same passion in putting it together and it shows. The waitress never introduced herself and it felt like she hated her job, and that definitely showed. Overall it was a good experience, but it could have been better. Food quality was not good. The green side salad was basic but decent. Ordered the chicken dumpling soup. One tiny supposed dumpling and very fine shredded chicken. It was not as expected for ordering what I thought. Luckily she took it off and I did not consume. My friend had fried chicken which was cold. Her two side selections were gross. And since I was here well after they closed and departed well before they opened, there wasn't an opportunity to support them in return. Usually, I'll get a late dinner or breakfast. Will definitely not be eating here again. The entire experience felt cramped and uncomfortable from the moment we sat down. The tables are packed so tightly together that I literally couldn't get out of my chair without bumping into the person behind me. There's no sense of personal space at all, and it made the whole meal stressful instead of enjoyable. The food somehow managed to be even worse than the seating situation. The sausage tasted absolutely atrocious--like it had been sitting out way too long or cooked improperly. The eggs were cold and dry, which is honestly impressive in the worst way possible, because eggs are one of the easiest things to get right. And the gravy? Completely bland, no flavor whatsoever, like they forgot to season it at all. Service didn't help the situation either. Our waitress barely checked on us, and when she did, it felt rushed and inattentive. We were left sitting there with empty drinks and no one asking if we needed anything. It honestly felt like we were an inconvenience just for being there. Overall, this place completely missed the mark on every level--atmosphere, food, and service. This restaurant has always been a staple and one of my favorites. Never had anissue with service or the food. Awhile back joined their Rewards Orogram, and was in for my Take Two" birthday dinner", since yesterday was the last day to reedem my dessert. Servers dont often get recognized for going the extra mile, or just taking the time to chat with customers. Two servers, well my actual server: Mary Lou, and her co worker Becky...both deserve high praises and more recognition for other servers to take example from their act of kindness, and sincerity. My actual birthday was December 1, and not yesterday. After I told both: Mary Lou, my actual server and Becky what happened on my actual bday dinner, at another restaurant..Mary Lou, Becky and a younger server decided to sing me Happy Birthday, and guess what??? They didnt care that it was a take two on my birthday dinner a month later, they all went above and beyond. The ambience and homelike welcoming vibe, was there last evening after 7pm. The new logo isn't the only thing that needed to be rejected; the new menu should follow it. Gone is the four piece fried chicken, replaced by two deep fried breasts. So I opted for the chicken fried steak, which arrived lukewarm with barely enough gravy to cover the steak. I'd have sent it back if our server hadn't disappeared for fifteen minutes to get me the glass of water that she forgot to bring when she did return. Bottom line is that we won't be returning, even though the restaurant is a short walk from the hotel we stay at in Williamsville. The new menu looks sparse, the quality and preparation of the food is mediocre at best, and although our server was kind and apologetic, she wasn't very good at her job. Go somewhere else. read more

To start off, the server (Nilea) was very patient with her costumers and polite about it as well. The service was quite slow because of how busy they got later on, but I would definitely say it was worth the wait. The food was way better than I expected it to be. One of my daughters ordered the Crispy Shrimp that was a wonderful dish that she and my wife enjoyed. I ordered the Shrimp Skillet and it was delisuose but their could have been more shrimp. As I entered the restaurant i was greeted by a staff member who was very pleasant and with a smile. After that it was downhill. The staff was not pleasant, food was tasteless-no seasoning, service was slow, no one smiled at any of the customers and one server even argued with a customer trying to help her and by the way the restaurant was not full of people. The only time I saw staff pleasant was when they were showing each other pictures on their cellphones. Checking out, I told the staff at the register and she was appalled at the other staff attitude. We set our reservations online and by the time we were 10mins away we were #1 in the cue. The lot looked full but walking in we greeted and seated almost immediately. The down home decor adds to that small town diner feel but in a chain restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and got our food and drink order placed immediately. The misses got the maple bacon chicken and wow did she love it. So much flavor and a good portion size (sides okra and cheesy potatoes). I opted for the southern fried chicken dinner. I can't recall the last time I had chicken that was so crispy and moist that it took that much effort to not take down all 4 pieces. A generous helping of chicken that was better than anything KFC has put out. (Sides Mashed potatoes and broccoli) Our littlest diner chose the chicken tenders. She too loved how juicy and crunchy the chicken was, plus the fries were "super good". Side note: the hot chocolate... treat yourself. The wife said it was the best cup of it she's had in quite a while. We always enjoy our visits here, it's hard to come over a 3 on a chain restaurant for me unless something is above average. Food is always good although this time everything came out room temp which was really confusing because our app was HOT! Server didn't seemed thrilled to be there but she was still nice. It's my honey's birthday, so we met up with family at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant and Old Country Store to celebrate. Our party of 7 was seated immediately on this Sunday during the dinner hour. Both the parking lot and the restaurant were fairly empty so we didn't have to fight the crowds. Cracker Barrel has been a part of our family celebrations as well as a dependable rest stop on our family road trips to the Maryland Shore. But today we kept it local in Depew NY. The Country Store is always very tempting to me, and today was no exception. The merchandise is always changing, is always beguiling and enchanting, but I kept my spending impulses under control today. The dining room was very clean and tidy, and we settled down to reading the extensive menu. The waitress and the busers were very efficient and friendly. Service was just perfect! The only issue at our table was a pot pie with very little filling. Our wonderful waitress quickly brought a second pot pie to supplement the first, much to the satisfaction of my daughter. We ordered the biscuit Beignets with butter pecan syrup to share at the table. Oh, My Lanta! What a delicious ending to a fun evening with family. My family of four went here on a Sunday night around 5 and it wasn't busy, we were seated right away. Our server Cher was very nice. The food was so so. My husband said his chicken was really good but the sides were blah. I ordered the Signature Fried Apple French Toast Bake which was really good but can you ever go wrong with breakfast?! A group of about 4 of my friends and I decided to go with the suggestion of the oldest in the group to eat here at Cracker Barrel... we haven't been here since 2019 (pandemic pause), and oh boy, have things changed... We ordered lots of fifteenth dinners... The Sunday chicken dinner was tasty and with a generous portion of crispy,, flavorful chicken. The steamed broccoli was cooked perfectly for me (crisp) but one of my friends felt like it was under cooked... The haddock fish fry was abysmal... the piece of fish was small, flat, tasteless and over fried... the Mac and cheese was starchy and lacked flavor... the hash brown casserole was steamy hot, but again Lacked the chest flavor of the past... The roast beef dinner was tender and delicious... the mashed potatoes were typical, nothing special... The sirloin was great, it was cooked to medium rate prefecture and dressings well... the turnip greens had a strange flavor and adding hot sauce and vinegar did not help... the fried apples have never been great, but they tested like sweetened cornstarch was added to apples... Spent a Saturday in Buffalo and decided to lunch at Cracker Barrel. This is a restaurant with a gift shop attached selling all things 'country'. There is one entrance and when you walk in you are immediately in the gift shop where a hostess greets you and takes your name, meanwhile you can wander around the store. When your table is ready your name is announced on the overhead speaker and you head over to the entrance of the restaurant for seating. The whole setup is very tight. The gift shop is not big and there is an over abundance of everything! Clothing, candy, candles, toys, old fashioned bottled pop etc. The menu is your classic southern style food, chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, grits, corn muffins and also the general fare of burgers and sandwiches. They also have an extensive selection of all day breakfast items. Portions are generous. We ordered the chicken fried chicken with 3 sides (you can also choose 2 sides). 2 generous pieces of boneless fried chicken with gravy on the side and choice of buttermilk biscuit or corn muffin (you can get 1 of each). Food was good as was the service. The paying part was interesting...the bill is given to you at your table but you take it to the gift shop to pay. Huge trust here because customers could just walk out the door without paying if the gift shop was crowded. We would consider another visit if in the area. read more

My daughter and I agreed on CB for a late breakfast. When seated, we were given lunch/dinner menus. I came for breakfast but decided to give the dinner menu a try. I wish I went with what I know and got the breakfast. The food came out rather quickly which was a plus. But it was cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. Even after it being warmed, it just wasn't good. I ordered the meatloaf which was dry and looked like it may have been prepared the day before and reheated. Then after I had it reheated again, it was a worthless piece of meat. Also had the chicken and dumplings which was all dumplings. If there's chicken in there I didn't find it. And lastly, the country fried chicken. The chicken was good but I would have preferred some hot sauce on but I guess my server went home after taking our order. Hm, honestly wasn't sure what to expect here. We were looking for true "American/Southern" food and this is what on the list. Was quite surprised at the amount of people and the wait time to be seated. The storefront was a nice way to kill time while waiting for our table though. Lots of little things to look at and a great little gift shop for visitors. Surprisingly we were seated under the 30 minute wait time. We ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken and the Grilled Rainbow trout with brocolli, dumplins and turnip greens as sides. For drinks we got the half and half lemonade and iced tea as well as the peach iced tea. The grilled rainbow trout was well seasoned. The turnip greens were also very flavorful, due to the ham used. Got the dumplins to give them a try, but discovered I'm not a fan of that. The chicken fried chicken was surprisingly not too heavy as I would've expected. It was also flavorful but not dry, even though it was chicken breast which was surprising. The biscuits and cornbread were okay, both a little on the drier side. This rating is for the food, which was okay. The service was great though! We were running late and had plans so we asked if they could rush our order if possible, and then really tried all their best to! Super grateful for that. read more

January 2017 was the last time I was at Cracker Barrel and the next time I'll be there will probably be April 2024 because I'll still be full from the tremendous amounts of food you get. My mom, stepdad and I came here on a Saturday in March. I gave the hostess my name and was told we needed to wait in the car, and a text would come saying we were up, or could look through the store. We milled around the store for about 15 minutes and then since it was such a beautiful day I went outside and rocked on the rocking chairs until the rest of my family came out and we decided to wait in the car. I think we waited for about a half hour and we finally received the text saying our table was ready. It wasn't a bad wait as browsing the store is always fun and they have unique things in there as well. The service and hospitality is always great here. The manager came around and made sure each table was having an enjoyable time. I liked that touch. We all ordered breakfast. I already had coffee for the day and opted to go with unsweetened iced tea, which was good. Everyone else in my party went with coffee. I ordered the old timer's breakfast. When it came, the four top we were sitting at for three people was filled with food and there was hardly any room to move. Good thing we had an extra space not filled with another person. The breakfast came with biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, and hash brown casserole. And grits. It waa my first experience with grits. It was ok for a couple spoonfuls, anything more is too much for me. The breakfast was delicious. I know Cracker Barrel is a chain, and I usually avoid chains, but I do like Cracker Barrel every once in a while. I went with my husband and 2-year-old for Mother's Day breakfast yesterday and had a great experience. If you've never been to Cracker Barrel - know that you are going to get in a consistent, well-made meal in a setting perfect for families. I've been to Cracker Barrels all across the country and while there are definitely blips in service, it's nearly always a reliable place that everyone in your party will enjoy. Being Mother's Day, it was busy. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were told it'd be a 20-minute wait. No big deal - the store is full of items to look at while you wait. There are also rockers outside for when the weather is nicer, and they take your number to text if you want to wait in the car. My son loved looking at the toys. In about 15 minutes we were called and went to the host stand where we were immediately greeted by someone who I assume was the manager. He was pleasant and joking around with customers. He really set the tone for the rest of the staff that, while it was busy, it's still a day of celebration for many of the customers and they were looking for a nice experience. We were sat down and immediately greeted by our server who was very nice. She took our order immediately and came back quickly with our drinks. Our food came out shortly after which was very impressive for how busy it was. We were missing a side of hashbrown casserole, a must have for breakfast, and that was quickly resolved. Our son loves looking around at all the decor and playing the game at the table. It's a great setting for bust toddlers who get antsy when mom and dad sip their coffee.
