I love breakfast food and have been to other Bob Evans restaurants. Unfortunately, this Bob Evans doesn't measure up to the other locations that I've been to. We started with the Cinnabiscuits, which was a solid choice. It gives you the great taste of their biscuits combined with sweet cinnamon. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and I can't put my finger on why but they didn't taste the same as I've had before. I highly recommend the hot chocolate! I visited Bob Evans on Sunday for breakfast. The place was full, but I received excellent service. The food was good albeit a bit pricey, compared to some of the other diners in town. The restaurant is always clean, and the mature servers are always very pleasant to deal with There were things I did not like. Even though there were about a dozen open tables, the hostess attempted to seat me, a solitary woman, handicapped and limping in the corner next to the bathrooms. I find this happens a lot at Bob Evans, when I am alone and I don't appreciate it. The other thing that really bothered me was that the cashier person (younger female) at the counter accepting payment loudly bragged to a younger male waiter that he had been tipped $100 by a group of young people. Then both of them laughed and made fun of the young man who had tipped so very well because they assumed that he had used Daddy's credit card and even stated that it was easy to be generous when you were using Daddy's card. I personally thought that they were ingrates, inappropriately loud, and it made me glad that they had not served me. Furthermore, I wasn't even thanked because they were so busy making fun of the generous party that had left just before me. This type of behavior needs to be resolved by management. I wanted a home-cooked dinner, and this came up at the top of the google search. I had never tried this restaurant, except maybe in Canada long ago. When I got there, there was no booth to sit in. The ones which were not occupied needed to be cleaned, except for one. It turned out the bench which I first sat in was broken. The top seating surface of the bench was broken loose, and slid around under me. I thought I could scoot the table to a place where I could make do with the seat, but that proved impossible. Eventually I gave up and moved to the other side of the booth. I was waited on by a friendly and tall waitress. She offered to move me to another table, but, seeing as there were still no other clean booths available, I opted to stay. She brought me a soda and a menu, and I discovered that there was nothing home-cooked about the Bob Evans fare. At this point I heard a quiet internal voice whispering to me to run away from this place. But I was hungry, and opted to stay. There were basically 4 choices: Chicken without vegetables, steak without vegetables, burgers with fries, and turkey without vegetables. I perused the menu in detail trying to figure out some way to order a balanced meal. I figured I could order a small turkey plate of some kind, and fill out the meal with corn and green beans. I had finished my Pepsi long before the overworked waitress could find time to get back to me. It was in a thimble-sized canning jar. I have never seen a tiny canning jar like this, before. No water. I waited. I ordered the small meal, along with my (2) $4 sides of vegetables. The waitress refills my tiny soda. I wait and wait. Then the waitress comes back and tells me they are out of corn. Would I like another side-order in its place? Yes. But I can no longer remember anything about the side-orders other than I had the impression that it was difficult to find 2 orders which were not simply different shaped starch. The waitress had no menu, and cannot remember the list of side-orders available. She tells me it is her first day. Eventually I find the only thing other than the green beans is broccoli. I am thinking I would have opted for the larger open-faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes if I had known that they didn't even have the 3 vegetable side-orders listed. But it has been so long that I am sure my original order is already being cooked. I don't want to cause a scene, so I order the broccoli in place of the corn. A long time later, the order comes. But it isn't my order, after all. It is an order for another nearby table -- a family of farmers who have come to visit their son at his new college. The entire family is served fast-food on dinnerware as if we are in a real restaurant. By this time, I am nearly fuming. A significant time even later, my food finally comes. The broccoli is cold and hard -- nearly raw. Luckily it's not buttered, because the butter would not be melted! I choke down this cold meal, and the nice waitress brings the bill. I owe Bob Evans $25 for my cold mix-and-match a la carte food pyramid extravaganza. I wait for the nice waitress, let's call her Holly, to come pick up the bill with my card. After a while I catch her attention as she is passing by to wait on someone else, and she informs me that I have to take the bill to the register. I leave a generous tip for the waitress on the bill she gave me, because I feel sympathy for her being overworked in this hell-hole of a poor fast-food excuse for a restaurant. But when I get to register, another waitress takes my bill, works some magic on the register, and gives me A DIFFERENT RECEIPT. I am a little curious about this...because it had already caught my eye that the original bill was printed on a cash register receipt paper roll tape. When I get to the car, I notice that the waitress's name is printed at the top of the newly printed bill, just as it was the previous bill, but now the waitress's name has changed to...let's call her "Evy." So I suspect that newbie waitress Holly has had my tip stolen by cash register-approved Evy. Talk about leaving a bad taste in my mouth!!! I'll never go back to this "looks-like" a restaurant -- functions like a burger-joint -- place. It looks like a real restaurant, but it is really a fast-food place with essentially a fast-food menu, priced like real food, delivered to real (broken and dirty) tables. I will NEVER go back to this horrible place. It is the worst of both worlds: Fast-food served SLOWLY at broken and dirty sit-down tables. If it doesn't go out of business soon due to its horrible food and management, the Bob Evans chain should close this franchise for damaging its image. read more

Wow- not a place ANYONE should ever walk into. Be it a human, a rodent, a dog, anything!!!! Horrible service, I believe our waitress was on something. Placed our order, 50 minutes went by, nothing. NADA- we get up to leave, and tell the staff who were standing mutely and looking at us with a deer in the head light look that we were leaving because we waited 50 minutes for our order. 1st and very likely last visit at least at this location. Service slow, incomplete and one of the orders was way over cooked. To be replaced it took an eternity. My steak and shrimp way ok, but didn't stand out. The other order was honey butter chicken and it was overcooked and dry. Sorry, but I can't recommended. read more

My wife also had a similar breakfast, and she said it was very good. The service was excellent. The young lady that took care of us was just fantastic. She couldn't do enough for us. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, high on the rotation of great local breakfast spots. When did it become so horrible? A victim of pandemic hangover, perhaps? With social distancing blocking off half the seating areas there were only three tables in our section, yet service was still deathly slow and indifferent. Asked for honey for my doorstop-hard biscuits (never got it), real butter instead of Country Crock (the server looked like she didn't know there was a difference), had regular coffee dumped into my decaf cup with disregard. And while our two orders of eggs and bacon were quite good, no one should have to wait 30 minutes for eggs at a breakfast restaurant. They have taken my wife's go-to meal, fried mush, off the menu, so there's really no reason to go back. That's probably a good thing. I write this as I am on a very long drive home. I am sitting at a complete stop on the freeway outside Memphis. What does this have to do with Bob Evans in Champaign you ask? I stayed around the corner last night. About half hour before I was getting on the road I placed an online curb pick up. I had it all planned out. I had my two dogs in the car with me. First, I got there a few minutes early, no problem, no issue with waiting. I called when I got there, no answer. Called again a couple minutes later, no answer. Waiting a few minutes called again and a young lady answered She was rude-ish and acted like I was bothering her. She let me know that my order was not ready, but that she would bring it out as soon as it was. I was very nice, no problem had a few minutes so no concern on my part. I asked her if she would mind bringing out a ice water when she came out. She was a bit put off by the request (I think her exact words were "what do you want"), but said she would. I'm a great multitasker, so I was doing some work while I waited for my order. I noticed that my order was supposed to be done at 11, didn't have it, no problem, went back to work and got busy. Next thing I know it's a quarter after. I still don't have any food. So I call again. The girl answers and again acts put off. She says she didn't see me parked in the curb pick up area. I pointed out that I am directly in front of the front door (the online asks for car make, color, etc), but I explained that I could definitely move to those parking spots if she would tell me where they were. There are no signs and there are no directions when doing curb pick up online. The two spaces are behind the store near the dumpsters.... crazy me! I parked next to a sign that actually said "pick up and delivery", granted it was a temporary type sign that was placed into the ground as it was partially falling over, but I thought "well this must be where they want me to park". The only visible space when you pull in. And it was directly in front of the front door of the store. So she says she will bring out the order. I wait another 5 to 10 minutes at this point my patience dwindled. I pulled up to the front door and was about to walk in and ask for a manager, then she walked out with my order. It dawned on her that I was the person waiting for the order so she asked my name and I said yes that's me I was about to walk in. And she again was very snotty. I pointed out to her that she could have called me if there was confusion. And that it had been over 20 minutes... But of course she again was indignant, snotty and Told me "she was busy". I told her she needed to do her job better. Really? Busy? Was I not a customer who left a freaking tip online and got THIS for customer service. The place was not crowded at all. I had had it, walked in to talk with manager, who was very nice and I explained the issues. But while sitting there I did note there were several employees around, none of them were running around acting crazy or busy, but this girl was darting around the place back and forth as I talked with the manager. In fact she walked right next to us as I was I was talking to the manager and I looked at her and said yes this is the girl and she's very rude. And then left, I went about my business. And yes my food was very cold. My coffee was warm at least. No water. I had to stop again to get water... The big question is if she hadn't been such an awful employee and rude would I be sitting in this long traffic jam? Which will put me home probably now about an hour later which should be around one or 2 AM this next morning. I hope it's clear I'm not mad because somebody screwed up their job or my food was late, nothing like that... the attitude! The snotty, entitled attitude was completely uncalled for. I did not try Bob Evans when I was in Ohio for 3 years because they looked like a not so nice comfort food place to me!! Now I am going there more than once in past month because they are really a good comfort food place but nice, at least in Indiana. This particular establishment has similar lay out as all others. Staff was mostly friendly and courteous. Food was not so good. Despite them following the same recipe, I felt like the food was less than ideal at this place. They ran out of Pico-de-gallo for nachos at noon!! The eggs and biscuits were nice but not as good as other places. This was a terrible experience. Today I went in with my husband to try out the breakfast menu items. The restaurant was not busy and we were very excited to try a new restaurant out. We ordered our food and noticed that our waitress hadn't been by to speak with us or our neighbor table (also hers) for over thirty minutes. She continually walked past us deliberately trying to divert our gaze and attention. We constantly saw food being prepared for the to-go orders but no one was telling us why our food was taking so long. After another 15 minutes, my husband finally got the waitress' attention and asked why the long wait, where she stated " our to-go orders have the kitchen backed up". We patiently waited for another 20 minutes and the food for our waitress's tables started to finally come out. She had three tables, two tables with five or more and our two person table. The larger tables arrived after us, however they received their food first. Our neighbor table told the waitress that they had arrived after us and she mildly said "I know" and walked away without saying a word to us. She never once looked at us and said anything, nor assured that our food would be arriving anytime soon. We arrived at the restaurant around 11 am and left around 12:10pm. I arrived at Bob Evans at about 1 PM on a Friday, clean shaven and dressed in clean clothes. A young lady seated me a few moments later and told me my waitress would be by shortly. I sat in an uncrowded area and watched a waitress serve some of the others nearby. She spent about 5 minutes socializing with one table. Looked around, had to see me, never came over. Another customer came and was seated nearby. I had an appointment coming up nearby and didn't know of anywhere else to go, so I kept waiting. Eventually (about 30 minutes after she was seated) the other new customer went somewhere and returned. The girl who had seated me came and took my order and then the other new customer's order. 20 minutes later the other customer's food arrived. I had now been here well over an hour. I picked up my backpack from under the table and decided to leave. About that time, the waitress who'd socialized with others brought my order. I ate it and left after 2:30. I doubt if I'll return. I understand a shortage of help, but the help here was not busy and seemed to only be good at ignoring customers. read more

The service of our waitress was phenomenal. She was very pleasant and patient with us. She was kind. However the kitchen was TERRIBLE!!! The grits are old, lumpy, and dry like they've been sitting out all morning. My mother's eggs with cheese were raw. The coffee was burnt and disgusting. I discovered today that I do not like Bob Evans! Our server was kind. However she didn't know anything about which coupons were acceptable or not. She brought only our menus when she first came to our table. I was very thirsty and would have loved to of had a glass of water brought to my table with or before my menu. However Bob Evans doesn't do this. Infact unless a customer request a glass of water they don't bring them out at all. Next when my sister tried to order chicken strips we were informed they were out of chicken strips and mac & cheese. Evidently that wasn't all they were out of. Because when I ordered what they call a fruit bowl it was only grapes and musk mellon. That was just disappointing. After searching for any coupons available for Bob Evans I finally found a few. By the way it is extremely difficult just to find ten coupons for Bob Evans. When I brought several different ones up to the register the manager informed me that everyone of them was unacceptable​ for one reason or another. These websites are very reliable and I use coupons from them all the time at other restaurants and stores! But this place is insanely determined to charge full price. In general this whole fustrating experience sucked. It sucked because of how this Bob Evans is ran. The policies and lack of quality is why it gets one star. Not because of the employees. They did their best. Also, the food wasn't anything special. It's really heavy on cheap carbs. They offer grilled chicken breast and ice burg lettuce as about the only remotely healthy options.
