When you spend $70 on a call in order several days ahead of time and are told to pick it up at 11 AM on Thanksgiving, and you are still waiting in line at 1 PM, that is piss poor management. I have one of my buddies waiting in line to pick up the food. I was diagnosed with Covid on Monday. My mom was diagnosed yesterday. So my buddy volunteered to go pick up her food for her and my brother. If mom was not sick and had to stand in line for 2+ hours, it would've been a bad day today Bob Evans management when I came to visit them. The management needs eliminated from the payroll. Nice when you pick up your to go order and they put the meal in the bag so that the main course and the sides are all piled together on the side of the container. On a long drive recently, I had occasion to stop at this restaurant not once, but twice -- a late dinner one evening, and then breakfast the next day. Bob Evans is convenient as it's just across the parking lot from the Motel 6 where we stayed. On an 1800-mile journey, these were by far the friendliest, tastiest two meals I had. The thing is, this is a Bob Evans. It is a restaurant named for a sausage magnate. The food is classically mid-American fare: a lot of the items on the menu are, indeed, greasy and salty. If you don't like that type of food, you probably shouldn't choose to eat at places like this. However, when comparing oranges to oranges, meaning other casual dinner places in this price range (Denny's, IHOP, Perkins, etc), Bob Evans really shines. For dinner, I had a spinach salad. The greens were fresh, the dressing was good, the toppings (grilled chicken, almonds, bacon) were generous. My companion had a chicken-fried steak and mashed potatoes with gravy. I tried a bite and it was delicious. He cleaned his plate. The service at dinner was, admittedly, just okay -- our orders were correct and served quickly, but our waitress was kinda grim and the other workers were pretty unprofessional. At breakfast the next morning, we had the Best Waitress Ever. She was fantastic, anticipating refills before we asked for them, being friendly and outgoing without smothering us. I had eggs and biscuits with the famous (infamous?) sausage gravy this chain is known for. The gravy was... well, maybe I just don't get the appeal. I think you have to be Southern. It literally came in a soup bowl! Still, everything was hot and fresh, the eggs perfectly over medium. My friend had stuffed French toast and proclaimed it excellent. Best of all? When we told our waitress we were traveling, she (unprompted!) gave us huge to-go cups with lids filled with our drink refills. That's an extra star right there. Bottom line, if you are traveling through West Virginia on I-64 and you need an inexpensive diner with a good selection, stop here. The food is pretty average, just your regular bacon, eggs, pancakes, toast kind of stuff for breakfast. They do drench their toast in butter though, so if you get toast as a side ask for the butter on the side. The biggest problem I've had with this place is the services. I've been there several times for breakfast early in the morning and my experience is always the same. They seat us and say our server will be over. She brings us drinks/coffee and then says "holler when you're ready to order" and then she literally NEVER comes back and we have to ask another waitress to find her. Their menu is pretty robust so you can get a decent salad, sandwich, omelette or pancakes if the mood strikes you. Let me start by saying that dining here isn't all that bad. It's -actually- pretty decent for a chain restaurant. But ordering carry-out is when the s**t hits the fan. Today my wife placed a take-out order with these folks at 12:50pm. We were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived at the restaurant at 1:09pm. When I got to the checkout I could see that there was only one order bag waiting. I told them I was there for carry-out, they checked the bag and confirmed it was mine and then asked me to sit and wait, that the order 'would be ready shortly'. I wasn't put off because it was lunch time and I expected the place to be busy. So...I sat and waited. 21 minutes later I was still waiting. I called my wife to confirm the time she placed the order. "12:50pm." she said. It was now 1:31pm. (Please keep in mind that no one on either side of the counter had said a thing to me after asking me to sit down 20 minutes earlier.) I walked up to the counter and saw my bag sitting in exactly the same place. I asked a passing employee whether or not my take-out was ready, indicating the bag in question. She checked the ticket on the side before responding "Yes, it is." I was initially pleased before a thought occurred to me. "How long has it been sitting there?" I asked. She checked the ticket again. "15 minutes," she replied. Sooooo...it was ready 6 minutes after I arrived? Perhaps I spent the ensuing 24 minutes admiring the decor? IF someone had told me some progress was being made...cool. IF someone had told me it was my responsibility to check on my order's progress...cool. But completely ignoring me for over 20 minutes? This location had been completely redone since our last visit and it's beautiful! The service and food were fantastic and they promptly seated us and waited on us. Stopped in on a 12 hour drive for a late lunch at 3pm on a Sunday. Sat for a few minutes and a lady abruptly took our drink order. Came back with our drinks and stated that Brittney would be right with us with as little emotion as possible. Well, after waiting on Brittney for about 15 minutes and with nobody else noticing our presence, we grabbed our things and left. I've received better service at a fast-food restaurant. Have eaten there and Bob Evans in Cross Lanes on a number of occasions and food is never served hot,not even the soup. Restaurant was not busy,but there were a number of tables with dirty dishes. Would not recommend either location. Food is sub par. read more

I have been to a bunch of Bob Evans and this one is BY FAR the most disgraceful. When my husband, son and I arrived, we noticed that it was pretty packed so we waited a while (around 5 minutes or a bit longer) to be seated. When we were finally seated in a booth, there was a random energy drink can just sitting on the table like it belonged there. It had been opened and just sitting there even though the table was "cleaned." The waitress got our drink orders and then we placed our orders. I ordered my usual Parmesan Chicken, broccoli, and hashbrowns and rolls, our son ordered chicken tenders and fries, and my husband ordered the Rise and Shine with turkey sausage, eggs over medium, hashbrowns, and toast. When the waitress brought our order out, she brought out a chicken breast on a plate with fries for our son and then proceeded to tell us that they "ran out of chicken tenders" so they gave him something like it. There was a hold on my husband's toast too. The hashbrowns were so bland, the rolls looked like little hushpuppies, the steamed broccoli was mushy, my husbands toast still hadn't come out and the waitress acted like she was avoiding our table. The manager came over and told us what had happened with the chicken tenders and then proceeded to put our son on the spot of trying the chicken breast. Being a nervous 7 year old and someone telling you to try something, he gave a tiny bite with a thumbs up but he did not eat anymore after that. The toast still hadn't come yet. The waitress came back over to the table to see how we were doing and we told her we needed salt because their salt container was empty and my husband still needed toast. She took the salt container with her to the back and then someone else brought out the toast. It was hard with a ton of butter on it. We choked down our food, got the ticket, and high-tailed it out of there. When we got to the checkout, the cashier asked "How was everything?" to which me and my husband both went "meh" at the same time. Never again will we eat at that location. read more

I have a shell fish allergy and asked about the fryers to see about ordering fish or French fries. I was informed that shrimp is fried in the same oil. This place is not ran efficiently. There were about 10-15 people waiting to be seated when we arrived and departed. Both times there were about 5 or so tables open with patrons not being seated. My girlfriend's eggs had multiple shells and getting my coffee refilled took forever. The bathrooms were not clean and no one was busing the tables. The manager did not look remotely close to presentable and the waiters/waitress hung out up front together having a grand ole time. In July 07 we stopped at this Restaurant. We ordered trueky and dressing mashed potatoes and green beans and rolls.It took quite some time for the young lady to bring it. It was cold and no rolls, We sent it back and it cam back after being microwaved a minute. The potatoes and the dressing were still cold. We intended to just leave but the waitress assured she would get us some hot food. About this time a Fellow in a Cowboy hat was at the counter, apparently the owner, and started mouthing off about the food was fine etc. So much so that my wife was upset. We hadn't eaten since early morning so when the waitress brought it back, in tears, we ate even though it was still cold and we did not get the rolls we ordered. I seriously considered having a talk with the Owner or Manager but wife was so upset and she wanted me to just go. I threw a 20 down and left. I should have not paid but that is not me.
