I grew up eating at Bob Evan's. Over the years the closest one to me that I always went to closed. I have not been in years. I had heard the quality had gone down since the Evan's family sold the business and I can confirm.. This is not the Bob Evan's I remember. Walking in, there is no obvious host stand, I stand by the checkout looking around and finally someone asks me if I want to eat in and i say yes. Walking into this Bob Evan's, which was my first time, I liked the design and decor, Bob Evan's use to have a counter you could sit at and eat, and this one does not have one. Not sure if they got rid of that in all restaurants but it gave Bob Evan's some old time charm... The menu is totally different, and took a while for me to take in, to see what they offered, if they still had my favorites, which I was happy to see they did. My server, Robin was sort of nice but sort of pushy. Kept asking me if I was ready when I said I was still looking like 3 times in under 5 minutes. Sure on one hand that's nice, but I wanted to sit there, take it in and relax. I dropped my daughter off at school and wanted to take my time and enjoy my first visit to Bob Evan's in years. I ordered hotcakes and bacon and asked for biscuits. Biscuits here were ALWAYS amazing. I can't remember one time I had a really bad biscuit here. They were always thick and fluffy and oh so good. The pancakes I always remembered them as big pancakes. They were fluffy pancakes, and took up the entire plate. And what's what they show you on the menu. Bacon always tasted fresh cooked. I got my pancakes and bacon. And no biscuits. Which I reminded them I asked for biscuits and they got them for me. No problem, mistakes happen. But again the Bob Evan's of the old, biscuits were the first thing you got, not an afterthought. I looked at these, umm biscuits and wondered if they had a sponsorship with the NHL. These looked like they could be certified as hockey pucks. Stabbing my fork in them to split them, there was no fluffiness to them. I put butter on them and besides looking like hockey pucks, I could tell they had been sitting under a hot lamp for what seems like hours... I could not eat both of them, they were so dry and chewy and had no redeeming quality to them. Next bacon... yummm.. well... Not so much. The bacon was not under any sort of hot lamp or container to help keep it warm, the three slices of bacon, where meaty and had decent flavor but again they were cooked hours ago. I came at 11am, which yes is close to lunch time but come one. I mean come on.. This is a SIT DOWN RESTAURANT. People come to sit down restaurants expecting FRESH COOKED food. Not stuff that is cooked hours in advance for speed and cutting corners to save money. Last. Pancakes... Looking forward to a plate full of pancakes and what I got, when I first saw them, i thought I ordered a kids meal by mistake. They were small and thin. They had an ok taste, but not as I remembered and were chewy like the batter was over mixed. Cashing out, the guy who rung me out, first not once was I asked how was my food which kinda surprised be, but with the garbage they served me, I can understand why. But i will say he was very nice, talked to me, made me feel welcome and we had a few laughs and he did. Thank me for coming in. This is a perfect example of of someone of a family business's being acquired by another company and make changes that ruin something that use to be good. I just love their breakfast selections. Period. I've never had a meal I didn't enjoy. My wife and I dined there recently and everything was delicious. I especially loved their sausage gravy and biscuits. I ordered a meal where this was included and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. We dined there for much less than the same meal at Cracker Barrel so if you can do without the ambience that Cracker Barrel offers, it's a great breakfast stop. read more

We came to eat at Bob Evans's on 9/28/24. The service was atrocious and there wasn't a clear reason why. The restaurant wasn't packed, there didn't appear to be a server shortage, and no wait at the door. After our server took our drink order, she left and came back 5 minutes later asking for our food order- no drinks. She left for another 5 minutes before coming back with 2 waters and a kids apple juice. I typically order scrambled eggs with cheese and tomatoes to which my server tried to say they can't do that but they could "load" my eggs. I'm not even sure what that means, but she eventually took my order as I asked for it and walked away. The wait for the food was well over 40 minutes. When it DID finally come out, items were missing and they put a side bowl on top of my eggs. We didn't see our server again for another 5-10 minutes. I told her what was missing and she came back with part (just the missing French toast). The biggest thing was part of my child's meal was missing. She said she was putting it in and it "wouldn't take long ". It took her ANOTHER 20 minutes to come back just to re-ask if anything was missing. I had no syrup and he was STILL missing eggs. I watched her just to see if maybe she had a larger section than I realized, but no. She would check on her other tables and skip us entirely. All of this would have been conveyed to a manager, but they weren't anywhere to be found. At all other restaurants I've worked at or been a patron at the manager roams the floor to check on tables. We probably won't be coming back to this Bob Evans for quite a while. read more

So glad I stopped here on 5/5/21 because it was something I've been wanting for so long! A good pancake breakfast! Came here right when they opened at 7am right after work. I already knew I wanted pancakes and so I got there new meal that comes with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, whipped cream and the usual suspects has browns, turkey sausage (I don't eat the swine) and scrambled with with cheese. Only had some water to drink because I had already stopped at Wawa for some coffee...lol. Breakfast was so good but I had gotten full after a few bites and took the rest home to eat later. Okay it's a shame that there isn't a Bob Evans in San Diego because this was such a nice breakfast. It was the last day our whole family would be in VA so we had Bob Evans before my in-law's drive back down to Florida. They had come the day before so they knew that we would be having good food and even better service. I ordered the Original Farmers Choice and the cinna biscuits, can I just say that those cinna biscuits are lethal, so tasty they don't really even need the cream cheese frosting. My breakfast was exactly what was needed to start our day, we were going to make an effort to see the sites in DC, btw didn't happen and we ended up going to Philly instead. Arrived a little after 8 AM, one waitress on the floor. Tables started drizzling in, for some reason I noticed that we were being treated differently. I.E. both tables sat after us received their food almost immediately after being seated, the gentleman that ordered coffee behind us was given their own carafe; I ordered coffee I was not given a carafe. I also had to ask for water, maybe it's a Texan thing to receive water with coffee. The coffee was nasty. I tried to ask what brand of coffee it was so that I make sure I never ever buy it at a store. The water had something floating in it. The waitress came by and advised the food was coming out. A few minutes later someone else brought the food to us. The food was lukewarm, from the sausage, to the eggs, to the "home fries" to the blueberry banana pancakes. The potatoes weren't seasoned at all and tasted straight like the oil used to cook them. My boyfriend ordered oatmeal and pancakes the oatmeal was bland and unseasoned and the pancakes were lukewarm as well. I want to mention something that I may have interpreted incorrectly based off of my experience but thought worth mentioning in case it's a pattern... My boyfriend is black. Upon sitting at a table the gentlemen that were sitting there got up and moved. I thought well maybe they moved for privacy but when they sat next to another couple I figured it might be racially motivated, which coupled to the aforementioned issues... and the fact that every person that came in after us that was black got sat next to us while others were seated farther away. I ordered my meal on Sunday 8/18/24 and after 40 minutes I asked where my food was. I was told they gave my food to someone else. Hard to believe someone ordered the same two menu items the same way I customized it. I waited another 10 minutes and still didn't receive my food. I had another appointment and had to leave. No sense of urgency or attention to detail by the staff. Restaurant wasn't that busy. very disappointed with over all experience. As I left two customers behind me were leaving without getting their food. Staff seemed to not care that I was leaving. We had breakfast Sunday morning at Bob Evans on Smoketown Road in Woodbridge. It was nearly noon and we were happy to see that there was only a 5 minute wait. I know a review of Bob Evans is not ground breaking, but sometimes different locations of the same chain give different dining experiences. Such was not the case here. The reason we go to Bob Evans is consistency, in food and service. We started with coffee, as one might expect. My wife had hotcakes with Bacon, her usual order. There was 4 large hotcakes, and a good sized side of bacon. The bacon was cooked medium, and though we both prefer our bacon cooked within an inch of it's life, she enjoyed it. I had the Big Egg Breakfast, which is 3 eggs, meat and home fries. Instead of meat I got grits. It was a nice portion, and a hearty filling breakfast. The only thing I might say is that the coffee refill took a while. All in all, Bob Evans is always good, filling comfort food. We've been there many times, and will be back again. read more

You can get BBQ Sauce but I highly suggest you get the Honey Mustard. We always buy their Honey Mustard, usually 5 or 6 jars to last us until we return. We have found it is the best we ever had. Last time I went I ordered the Crispy Chicken Strips with Biscuits, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy and their Summer Herb Corn (Sweet corn with diced fresh red and green peppers finished with a citrus garden herb sauce). The best corn I ever had. The décor is always the same with a county feel to it, services is usually good and everyone is polite and very accommodating. This particular Bob Evans location at 14490 Smoketown Rd, Woodbridge, Virginia has been our saving grace twice now on a weekend when everything else is packed, long wait, or closed without notice. The three-course special they're currently running is great for a small family.  An App (Salad or Soup), a main course, Dessert, and endless rolls, biscuits or banana bread. Our particular server this night was excellent too.  Tikka was really on point, great with our order, helped us through a couple menu questions, and checked in as regularly as she could.  I say that because she was clearly assigned tables more so than the other servers.  At one point Tikka was servicing half the restaurant while other servers were refreshing Sugars and Ketchup bottles off to the side.  Not quite sure what managerial sense this made, but Tikka worked her hardest to overcome the obstacle and still made an impression on us.  From what I saw she could very well be the Restaurant Manager as she was running the whole place while we were there. Again, Bob Evans at 14490 Smoketown Rd, Woodbridge has pulled through for us on a number of occasions, and this one was no different.  They're a great go-to when other places can't meet our needs at the moment.  Good food, good quality, affordable prices, and good service. read more

It was good to go back to Bob Evans this morning for the first time since the pandemic. My food was great. My problem was with the substandard precautions taken. First, the restaurant was quite empty, but they still chose to seat people in four adjacent booths. Second, the tables were just wiped with a cloth as always (no spray or disinfectant in sight.) Third, waiter not wearing gloves. Fourth, menus same laminate, not disposable Fifth, condiments had been removed from table, so I was surprised to be brought the full-size containers...and more surprised when a server took the ones that I had touched and handed them to the table next to me. They had made some good changes (like increasing the height of the dividers between booths) but the above issues will keep me from returning any time soon. read more

After an hour and 15 minutes waiting in the lobby, our group of 9 spoke with the manager and left for a different restaurant. Yes it's a large group but we were willing to split. No less than 40 people were seated in groups of 2,3,4 or 5. The two running the host station were clearly not trained beyond the basic take a name and hand out menus. They need training and managers. I called to place a carry out order yesterday morning. When placing my order I specifically asked for the cranberry relish sauce that comes with the meal to be included in my order. When I eat in the restaurant, they always forget it so I made sure I ASKED for the sauce. When I arrive to pick up the food about 25 minutes later, it took a few minutes to talk to the host. I called the restaurant to figure out what they can do to fix this problem bc I literally asked for the sauce and the manager only said I could get 10% off next time I order. I already get that discount bc I utilize my military discount so I was not happy with that response. I kept asking what else they can do and the manager kept saying 10%. I asked for a higher discount like 25% and mindlessly they agreed. Lunch rush review: Poorly managed, grossly understaffed, and no sense of urgency, we gave up after 30 minutes of waiting. There were 10 unbussed tables, and no one seated in the wait time. People wanted to see the manager who was clearly hiding in the back room. There was one girl working hard but she can't do everything. The lobby was a wreck and the front doors look like a bus of slime covered children ran their hands and bodies up against ever inch of glass. Gross...
