Bob Lobster is cute and casual seafood spot with a variety of seafood offerings. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating was ideal especially enjoying the summer air with my dog. The views are overlooking the marsh and wide open skies. After ordering, received a buzzer to alert when my order was ready. I ordered the seafood platter which was about $45 and a cup of chowder at $6.50. There are fountain options as well as alcoholic canned beverages. The seafood platter was piled high with perfectly fried haddock, clams, scallops, and shrimp. All the seafood was sweet, juicy, and tender. I substituted fries for onion rings for $3 extra. My chowder was also full of clam pieces and potatoes. The consistency was perfect too. I definitely recommend trying or coming here if you have a fried seafood platter hankering after a day in Newburyport or Portsmouth! read more

We first discovered this place a few years ago on our way to Plum Island, and it quickly became a favorite memory thanks to one of the best lobster rolls we'd ever had. On a recent visit, we stopped by hoping to relive that experience. While the lobster roll didn't quite live up to the standard we remembered, the crew was friendly and accommodating, and the brioche roll was absolutely divine. Afterward, we learned the restaurant is now under new ownership, which may explain the difference. I hope the new team can recapture the quality and charm that made this place so memorable in the first place. P.S.: Just a suggestion: tartar sauce shouldn't be stored on the counter at room temperature like ketchup. It needs to be refrigerated to avoid any food poisoning. read more

Y'all need to stop reading Yelp reviews. They're filled with misery. Research your restaurants. I stopped at Bob Lobster after a day at Parker River. I ordered ahead as I packed up at the beach & my order was hot & ready at exactly the time they said. The spicy lobster roll was damn good & loaded with chunks of lobster & topped with fried banana peppers. It was a different approach to the lobster roll. I like it! Sweet potato fries were hot, fried up to crunchy yet soft inside perfection & just plain good. Also we tried the crabby patty which was good but not on the lobster roll level. Service was fast & as friendly as could be expected especially considering these kids are serving the pretentious all day long. It was clean inside & out. I'll be visiting again! read more

As seafood shacks go, Bob is pretty typical. No frills, simple seafood. We didnt see any exceptional items or taste anything that would say we have to go back in the future. My friends and I had dinner here this past Sunday and it was wicked busy. I ordered their fried clams (whole bellies, NOT strips) with onion rings instead of French fries. They up charge you $3.00 for onion rings and when I picked it up, the plastic basket the food comes in was filled with soggy onion rings, clam strips and 3 whole fried clams. The cashier said they ran out of bellies. For $42 this was a total disappointment. Considering I had the same thing at Mission Boathouse in Beverly on Tuesday for lunch and it was $20. Our table was wobbly but one of the staff came and put a bunch of paper napkins under the leg. The inside dining area needs to be cleaned and have better ventilation. We just had a shrimp dinner and a boat of fried clams. The shrimp were good but the clams were inedible. They were so overcooked, chewy, with a burnt flavor to the batter. It takes a lot for me to throw out food but even after spending $30 on them we could not eat them. Bob Lobster was our place to go for fried clams for a number of years but something's changed. After a disappointing visit last month we thought we would try again last week. Once again the clams were over cooked, hard and dark and had retained big white bellies that looked gruesome. The bottoms of our orders had a layer of broken fried clam bits reminiscent of the contents from the bottom of a frozen bag of clams. The thin-sliced onion rings were gone and were replaced with normal sized rings that were good but not the sweet - treat rings from the past. The included slaw was tasteless and was really a waste to serve. The sweet, properly cooked clams and special onion rings of the past have disappeared along with an edible slaw and it is with much sorrow that we have determined that the changes have destroyed what used to be a special treat and we will not be returning. read more

When we got the food, the chowder was cold, the clam strip roll tasked like it had been sitting around since yesterday, and the fries were just as stale and old. Also, the wait staff did not seem to be interested in being there. There were 6 teens working and 1 adult slaving in the back. Options are 1/4 ib or 1/2 lb rolls, either with butter or light mayo. This is an old time seafood shack. Rustic. Limited indoor air conditioned seating and lots of outdoor picnic tables. My coworkers and I first time here and it was not that great. My coworker from Massachusetts recommended it since this restaurant is known for there lobster rolls. But we were disappointed by it. Even my coworker from Massachusetts felt bad because it was good before. Now it went downhill. I got the lobster roll with fried avocado and lobster corn chowder. The lobster was all right. It tasted bland like no sauce. I thought the lobster would have butter. My coworkers had the sriracha lobster roll and I should have gotten that. The lobster corn chowder was very disappointing. While biking recently on Plum Island, my husband & I enjoyed a delicious fried seafood lunch. There was plenty of available parking in the afternoon. There may be more on the other side of the building as well. Nice bathroom accessible at the back of the building was appreciated. We shared the 2-way combo with oysters and scallops, which came with good fries and coleslaw (in a perfect amount of light dressing, not drowning it). Lemon wedges on the side. The breading on the seafood was light and tasty; the scallops in particular were cooked perfectly - so tender and moist! Fountain drinks (pink lemonade and unsweetened iced tea) were adequate. Alcohol was available. Prices reasonable. There were a few people in line ahead of us to order, but the line moved very quickly. You are given a pager that vibrates when your order is ready. Ours came out so fast, in about 5 minutes! A lot of people seemed to be picking up food to go. There is a small indoor eating area with A/C. We were able to snag a table outside under a covering. There was a nice breeze and it was a good spot to relax on the marsh. When we passed by on our way home around dinnertime, and it was much more crowded - with overflowing parking and a line out the door. read more

Stopped by Bob Lobster with my 80 year old father, who is large and tall and has a walker due to Parkinsons. 2 Fish & Chips and 2 waters $53. Then they silently flipped around the checkout with a 20% to 35% tip. Ps No table service. In fact no service or help whatsoever. Food was ok. The main problem was that they have a step down into the dining area that a walker can't manage. This could be fixed for less than the cost of the $15 theft tip. I had to personally manhandle my father down and then back up the step to eat. I'm 60 and he is 100lb heavier than me. Staff could not have cared less. It was really tough. Avoid this place. Over priced and they actually don't care. What a shame. Money over service. read more

Grabbed the fried oyster plate for lunch and it was super fresh. When I bit in, I could still taste the salt water...mixed with the batter and tartar sauce, it was delicious. It came with fries and onion rings. The fries were as bland as could be but the rings were very good. Tip, eat the oysters first while they're hot. In my experience, fried oysters tend to start tasting a bit weird when they cool down, so save the sides for last. Left the dog on the boat and ate inside with AC. They have great seafood pies to take home from the market shrimp, lobster, scallop or haddock pies filled with lobster cream sauce and a butter crumb topping.. Coleslaw tastes homemade and is the bomb. I got a small ramekin with twin lobster meal and I was left wanting more. We were on vacation in Plum Island, MA with my family and my daughter's family. This was a road side restaurant that had everything a family could possibly want. There were seats inside and picnic tables with tents outside. Outside we were able to see wildlife on the marshes. It was a great experience for our grandkids, who saw blue herons and cranes. We saved a table and my wife and daughter went inside to order our meals. We had clam chowder, lobster rolls with French fries, hot dogs, and fish and chips. When our food was cooked the wait services brought our food out steaming hot! Excellent food and excellent service. We sat and talked and we're never rushed. If you visit Plum Island visit Bob Lobster restaurant where you get excellent seafood at a reasonable prices, and great atmosphere, this restaurant is a must! Enjoy life and enjoy your food! They have good clam chowder, fried clams and scallops were ok, steamers were fresh (3-4stars for these food). So the main disappointment comes from lobster roll (1star). The people and crew are nice but they ran out of sauce at sauce station and at one point out of sauce cups at sauce station. The restroom was out of soap the entire evening as well. I'd say compare to similar shack place in the Massachusetts, it's a bit disappointing overall. That being said, it is a shack place so I don't expect top notch quality food, though it's a bit below average to other shack places I've been to, thus 2 or 2.5 star for this experience. read more

But in the pantheon of lobster restaurants/shacks/experiences, Bob's reigns supreme. It's not just the food, although the lobster is wonderful, and the onion rings are to-die-for: hand-cut and breaded, thin, flavorful-- I savor them, slowly, one at a time. Yum!
