We've been going to Loretta since before Covid. Food was always good. They were proactive during Covid for the ability to do take out while we were all cloistered in our homes. We've had good meals and not so good meals since and haven't been back in two years. We tried it again today. My go-to has always been the pastrami. It was disappointing today but I've had that same experience in other restaurants and at home. Properly cooked but it wasn't very flavorful. My husband had the steak sandwich, cooked to order, medium rare. He said it was good. He was sorry to see that the Croque Monsieur is no longer on the menu. He loves a good han and xheese that he can't pronounce! The cole slaw is perfect, thinly sliced, not chopped, not too much vinegar and not too much mayo. What we really missed the last few visits are the kettle chips they used to make in house during Covid. Service was excellent as always. read more

We were warmly welcomed by the owner and brought to our seats in the back as requested. The highlight of the dinner was the ahi tuna salad . The tuna was done perfectly and came with roasted Brussel sprouts. It was delicious. My beet salad was good , but had far too much arugula which overpowered the beets, goat cheese and candied walnuts. If we lived closer I definitely would return to try the lobster scampi. I found out after we should have requested bread. A restaurant of this caliber should just provide bread as part of the meal. We got reservations for 5pm right when they opened for dinner and were very thankful because all other times were booked. Once seated the service was amazing! Since the kiddos were hangry, we got them chicken tenders and fries, crab cakes for the adults and mussels. Let's talk about the food.. the simple but delicious chicken and fries for the kids were soo good and fresh. The chicken was some of the best tenders I've tried and it was moist and good. I was very surprised on how good this dish for the kids was. The crab cakes I can't really talk too much about since I didn't try it but the mussels were amazing with the bread dipped into the sauce.. it was heaven. Now let's talk about my dinner which was the seafood risotto.. this dish was superb! The half lobster and all the diver scallops were amazing. Everything went so well with the Parmesan risotto. I highly recommend this dish if you're a seafood lover. If you're ever around Newburyport, be sure to give this wonderful restaurant a try. You won't be disappointed! read more

Second time here. First was a weekday lunch where 2 of us split the lettuce wraps and beet salad. We liked it so much we brought our husbands back to have brunch. Live jazz music - loved the bari sax sounds. Not too loud and a bit festive. This time I got the burger which I ate half of. So good. Caramalized onions and bacon. Was so good, very filling, cooked perfectly. Upgraded to sweet potato fries, which had a nice taste. They did not taste fried, they taste oven baked. I'm hoping they were oven baked because then I would say they were excellent. We all shared the lettuce wraps, and one even got the lettuce wraps as their entree. Another got quiche and said it was perfect and the 4th had chicken wrap with fries. Wait staff was perfect. Had same waitress, Robin. She was great. Just perfect and she remembered us though it had been a few weeks. She didn't stay too long and answered all our questions. Must get the lettuce wraps. SO good. read more

Loretta's is a reliable favorite in NBPT. Had been several months between visits but was pleasantly surprised with rotating menu offerings. We walked in at dinner time with out reservations but were invited to sit at the bar area on a high top. Service was great as always. The chef seems to always deliver salmon cooked just right. Our experience at Loretta's in Newburyport was so wonderful that it salvaged a day spent on a very underwhelming whale watch that consumed 6 hours of a perfect summer day. With the weather so lovely, we decided to eat outside on their street side patio. Service from our waitress was excellent as she addressed menu questions, offered suggestions on meals or sharing appetizers, and was generally good natured and pleasant. Bonus, we met Ted the owner after dinner was finished who was gentlemanly, appreciative of our patronage and even offered suggestions for other restaurants, ice cream establishments, and things to see and do in the area. If that wasn't enough to entice you into visiting Loretta's, consider the most important ingredient...the food. While enjoying nice cold beverages, we decided on the Caesar salad for one which was very good, and the Seared Ahi Tuna. Our waitress warned me that the Ahi Tuna could be a meal in itself, and she was not kidding. The very fresh, lightly seared Ahi tuna slices were delicious with sesame seeds, ginger, and soy source. But the rest of the salad of warm, crispy Brussel sprouts, mandarin oranges, pickled red onion, shredded carrots, and crispy wonton strips were over the top good. We both ordered from the build your own burger menu which came served on a grilled brioche roll cooked to order. While my medium rare burger was cooked more medium, it was still very good and made with quality meat in a thick patty vs all this smashed burger craze which I do not care for. And the shoestring fries were very crispy on the outside and delicate on the inside. Overall, we were both very happy with our meals and highly recommend stopping at Loretta's next time in Newburyport. read more

Incredible experience at Loretta's. From the moment my husband and I walked in the door, we got a good vibe. Although all the other diners were eating inside, when we asked if we could be seated outside, the response was "of course you can. We will seat you wherever you want." So outside we went. The outside seating was comfortable and attractive (with white linen tablecloths and napkins.) Our server - Cathy - appeared just a couple of minutes after we were seated and could not have been more accommodating and friendly. My husband and I ordered from the luncheon menu. I had the Bolognese, which was spaghetti in a delicious pork ragu with ricotta and parmesan cheese, served with a garlic crostini. Hubby opted for a chicken salad wrap and French fries. I've been to Newburyport many times but have never been able to get into Loretta's and I can see why!! I had their raspberry margarita-two actually. First one was amazing!! Tart, crisp, tangy and refreshing. Second one was way too much lime-I couldn't drink it....however, when I told them it was awful and undrinkable, they made me a new one without any issues. Haven't had a truly delish or correctly cooked prime rib in forever! I honestly have to say this is the best prime rib I've ever had! The seasoning, cooked the exact way I asked for....really tender and flavorful! The mashed potatoes were solid, thick, and perfect. The asparagus were perfection! This restaurant was highly recommended so expectations were high. We left feeling flaccid. The service was cold. Not unfriendly but uninterested. Both lunches we ordered were nothing more than average. The roast beef au jus came with a horseradish sauce that tasted like sour milk. There was no taste of horseradish. The meat was bland. We had a the burger with green bleu cheese sauce as well. I forgot what it was called but the burger itself was as boring as they come, and the bacon was chewy. Finally had a chance to visit Loretta for lunch with some friends, and so glad we did. After hearing positive comments from others, we wanted to give them a try. This is a large dining room, and was pretty busy for Sunday lunch. There was live music and a few celebrations taking place toward the rear of the restaurant. Our server was friendly and we found service to be great. Cocktails were beautifully presented and delicious. We started with the Brussels sprouts appetizer , which were delectable. Fried, crispy with just a hint of sweet/spicy sauce. Easy to share and possibly addicting. Our group of four were all happy with their entrees. Warm lobster roll, crab cakes, French dip sandwich and an Asian inspired chicken in lettuce wrap. Plenty of modern American style dishes to choose from on the menu, and well executed, and so it is obvious to see why they are so busy and have such high ratings.
