My experience at Bob Smith BMW of Calabasas was, in my opinion, a complete embarrassment for a so-called luxury dealership. I dealt primarily with a salesperson named James Merrick, and based on everything that happened, I feel like other buyers need to know exactly how this place operates. The day before my appointment, I spoke with James multiple times about a specific vehicle. I asked very clearly if it could be put on hold for me because I was planning my day around it and considering canceling another appointment at a different dealership for a similar car. Each time, I was reassured that the car would be kept for me. The morning of the appointment, I reconfirmed my visit and was again given no indication that there was any issue. I then canceled my trip to the other dealership and drove over an hour in traffic to Calabasas just to see this car. I arrived 15 minutes early for my scheduled appointment, checked in, and sat waiting in the lounge. After all that, James finally comes out, looks me in the eye, and tells me, "I have bad news, the car was sold last night." This is the same car we had discussed the day before, the same car he had assured me would be held for me, and the same car I reconfirmed that morning before driving all that way. In my view, there is absolutely no excuse for not telling me before I spent over an hour on the road and gave up another opportunity. To make it worse, he claimed he "didn't know" the car was sold until then, even though he had the entire morning before my appointment to check and let me know. From my perspective, it felt like he knowingly let me drive all that way, allowed me to sit there and wait, and only then dropped the news so he could pivot into trying to sell me something else. That's exactly how it came across: a complete disregard for my time and effort so they could take a shot at upselling me on a different, more expensive car. And sure enough, after telling me the car I came for was gone, he immediately started pushing a different vehicle at a higher price. Then Matt Smith got involved, and in my experience, that only made things feel worse. Instead of real accountability or a genuine attempt to fix what happened, I got what felt like a hollow, robotic apology and a line about "we don't hold cars." Hearing that after I had confirmed multiple times with their own salesperson that the car would be held for me was incredibly frustrating. It came across as completely out of touch and, in my opinion, showed zero respect for the promises made by their own staff or for my time as a customer. Later, Wayne Lewis and Levon Yeranyan also came into the picture. Their involvement, from my point of view, only added to how bad this all felt. The interaction felt scripted, like a standard "sorry this happened" speech with no real substance behind it. In my opinion, Wayne's approach felt especially insincere and mechanical, like a cookie-cutter sales apology with no real empathy for the fact that I had canceled other plans, driven a long distance, burned time and gas, and lost a real opportunity because I relied on what their team told me. In my opinion, this dealership showed a complete lack of respect for my time and for the commitments their own employees make. The way this was handled felt deceptive and deeply disappointing. If I were you, I would be extremely cautious about trusting any promises from Bob Smith BMW of Calabasas, and personally, based on my experience with James Merrick, Matt Smith, Wayne Lewis, and Levon Yeranyan, I would not choose to do business here. read more

What a wonderful experience! I'm going to start right off the bat and confuse the heck out of you: I didn't die of starvation. Every time we go through the process of purchasing a vehicle, the process is so long and drawn out, my metabolism as kicked my sanity to the curb and I am literally hanging by a thread. Not here. They treat your business with urgency, which makes sense as time IS money. We were lucky enough to find an 2023 M240i with everything we wanted (and some things we didn't, but go fig) and THAT was a hard battle for the past 3 months of searching. The 1 thing that was a near impossibility for the car we wanted was the Cooling and High Performance Tire package (read the spec sheet. Not a gimmick!) This place had it. As in they do not allocate their cars with low-tier packaging for chumps. (That's what Fresno BMW is for.) This car arrived 3 days ago and had garnered lots of interest. We were over 3 hours away and was offered a chance to check it out. Fortunately we moved heaven and earth to get there, and it was SOOO worth it. Elham, our Sales Lady greeted us, provided us with bottles of water, and handed Nigel over to assist our test driving needs. We were presented to a car with a lovely red bow to match the brake calipers and contrast the gorgeous Portimao Blue Metallic. (I'm thinking every bow is red, but let us have this one, will ya'!) The views there in Calabasas were spectacular. Upon our return, we ran through the process with Elham and was assisted by Wayne, who was cordial and completed the finance portion efficiently. She then had Hovac, their product specialist, prepare us for iDrive 8.0, (we came from 7.0, yet there were big changes) and answered all of our questions. We were in and out in 2 hours! The worst service center I have ever been to. Juan is very unprofessional and lied to me many times. He didn't tell me that I was going to pay out of pocket for the service until after he did the service because the service plan has an expiration date. I paid for the service no problem but I found out that the car still had the vehicle check light. I called about it and he said that he talked to me about it and I declined it. He lied about telling me that the service will cost money prior to doing it and also lied about the vehicle check light I didn't know about that was supposed to cost $275 and said he won't argue with me. So not only I would have had to drive 18 miles to the service center again, I would have to pay another $275. He was a big liar and very unprofessional. read more

Today I went to Bob Smith BMW to test drive and potentially special order a new M5. Despite the fact that I have purchased cars from them before, and they were my primary service partner on those vehicle , after chatting briefly with a salesman named Samit, I was told that the only way I would be able to test drive the car is if I let them run my credit. I should also mention that I am a 6 foot 4 black man. While I was more than willing to show them a bank balance demonstrating that I could afford to purchase the car in cash, they said that I needed to agree to all terms before they would let me take it out.. It seems insane to me to let someone do a hard pull on my credit in order to test drive something that they may or may not buy. I've been called new Century BMW, who was more than willing to let me drive the car without running my credit. The entire experience was insulting and humiliating. I will never shop at Bob Smith again, and I would not recommend that any person of color spend their hard earned money there. read more

Bobs has definitely been one of my favorite bmw dealerships for service. When leasing I choose them first unless vehicle is not available. All my bmws I've always preferred their location, their staff, customer service, vibes, and service is on point. Their pricing is fair sometimes hire than non bmw but their always willing to work with you and sometimes price match. Price match and from bmw is always better in my books. John and Kirk have always been my service reps and always providing A+ service. If you're having issues at other dealerships I would definitely recommend them. They provide same level or class of car when asking for a loaner, their loaners are always in great shop and clean. They also have a cool coffee shop inside which is a perk. Absolute Nightmare. Go anywhere else. I should start by saying I'm a big believer in brand loyalty and in supporting family-owned businesses. I've had BMWs for years and had hoped to keep it that way. But my experience was pretty appalling and neither the dealership nor BMW Corporate has made amends. I bought my hybrid X5 from Bob Smith in late 2020 as a certified pre-owned vehicle. It only had 25k miles on it. That was just around the time COVID began so I have put very few miles on the car -- it's now around 45k miles. I've had to take it in for service a few times (I ALWAYS brought it to the dealer - and over the years I've spent between $5-$10k with their service department). About 2 months ago, the drivetrain light came on and I couldn't get the car into reverse. So I had it towed to the dealership. It took them over a week to assess the problem, at which point I received an electronic notification that there were several issues, but the main one was a transmission issue that they estimated costing $33,000 and that they recommended I do not fix. In other words, they told me I needed to scrap the car and buy a new one. Imagine my upset at the idea of totaling a BMW at only 45k miles. I asked to speak to the manger of the dealership and was connected with Fernando (it turns out he was the service manager, which I discovered later). Fernando told me that since my car was past its two-year warranty, there was nothing they could do other than recommend escalation to BMW North America for their "goodwill" program. He claimed BMW had the capacity to solve the issue. Of course, BMW North America kicked the can back and insisted the dealership needed to handle things by extending their warranty...Fernando again insisted only Corporate had the power to solve things. After filling out online forms and a lot of back and forth between Fernando and BMW corporate over another week and a half, I finally received notification that the resolution they reached was that the dealership would fix my transmission for "only" $27k, OR they would give me $1500 off a new car. Not really a resolution as you can get $1500 off a CPO car by walking into a dealership and $27k is still a ton to spend on a vehicle this young. I told them that was completely unacceptable. While I deliberated what to do and finished my work day, I was texted on final time (at 4:48 pm) that I needed to return my loaner car and have my car towed THAT DAY or else they would begin charging me fees . They also increased their offer to 3k off a CPO vehicle or $20k to do the transmission work (which they noted they still didn't recommend doing). That's to say nothing of the $5k in shock work it needed. My fiancé insisted I take the car to a European mechanic nearby. I really didn't want to spend more time and money just to be told the same thing, but he wore me down and I relented. Guess what? It took that mechanic ONE DAY and less than $200 to determine that the dealership had updated the car's electrical system (shoutout to CS Motorwerks - honest, affordable and fast!!) and that there were simply electrical faults and the car needed to be put to sleep and restarted. THE CAR WORKED FINE after the mechanic did this. I've been driving it daily for over a month without any incidents or lights. So that leaves us with the question -- was this an intentional way to sell more cars? Or is the service department at Bob Smith egregiously bad at their jobs? Does it really matter which? I did call someone in the Sales Department, Matt Smith, to report all of this about 3 weeks ago. He seemed appropriately horrified and said he would escalate to an owner right away for follow up. I never heard back so I called him again two days ago and left a message. Shortly after, I was contacted by Catharine Andrews who is an owner and general manager. Though she was nice in demeanor and claimed to look into the issue, she had absolutely no resolution for me. "After reviewing the issue with her team" she said she felt her team had followed proper process, and there's nothing they can do because my car is outside of warranty. She insisted she believes the transmission is faulty and will fail shortly. I asked her if it makes sense that a BMW I purchased from them, and that I only ever serviced with them, would be essentially totaled at 45k miles and less than 10 years of age. She had nothing to offer me except to say she "understood my frustration." Will never buy a BMW again, and will be telling everyone I can about my experience here. read more

DONT BUY A BMW! I have one with 42,000 miles. It has a pretty bad electrical problem and they want $21,000 to fix it!! My mechanic says they are horrible cars and they are so expensive to fix. Even when it was under warranty, they would say things like "well, your radiator needs to be flushed" and would cost $500 to do it. I am a single female that knows nothing about cars so I fell for it every time. Can't get out of there for under $1000 even when it had a "warranty". Now that it isn't under warranty I take it to my regular mechanic. He suggested I take it back there and pay $275 to have it diagnosed which I did. And they want $21,000?! I bought the car 3 years ago for $35,000 and it is probably not even worth that much. The resell value is going to be bad. I am getting a Lexus instead because they were made by Toyota. They suck all the money out of your wallet. The ONLY good thing is that the customer service was good, Ray is awesome. But I'm sure they work on commission and get $$ when they sell you extra stuff that you don't know if you really need it. We leased an electric BMW about a year ago from them. A few weeks ago we went to replace a few of the tires at a local tire shop. We need a key to remove the tires and it wasn't in the car. I called and spoke to the salesman Justin that we worked with. I thought possibly there was a hidden compartment for it. No as it turns out it just wasn't there. I suggested that they could FedEx one to us? He told me to go to our local BMW dealer to get one. After contacting them they said to contact the key manufacturer. We did and the key was about $18. We bought it. So rather than Justin doing that for us which would have been amazing customer service, we had to do that ourselves. So will we lease or buy a car from this dealer again? My wife looked for the customary visitor complimentary coffee and was tersely cross examined as to what we were doing there and who we were working with. A woman working what appears to be a commerical coffee bar in the showroom told her "when you get a sales person come back". This was so atypical of any visit to a (luxury) car dealership that we have ever visited. We stopped at the Coffee Bean across the street. We can well afford to buy a cup of coffee, thank you, even if apparently BS BMW can not provide such basic hospitality to prospective customers. I will start off by saying that I recently took my car in for a recall issue. I guess since the part is replaced of no cost to you and there is no commission to be made from you, you're unimportant. I don't want to name the service advisor I had because I would like to think perhaps he was just having a bad day. My rating is NOT reflecting on the experience I had with my service advisor because I was very disappointed with the service I received on his end. My FIVE star rating is for CHRIS because of his professionalism! My car wasn't even his responsibility to take care of, but he did. He saw me waiting outside in the pick-up area for 10-15 minutes (I was also not feeling well), and he noticed my service advisor not even acknowledging me. Chris asked someone to get the car for me. Someone (don't know his name) brought my car from the car wash dirty on top, seats were even wet, it looked worse than when I took it in. I asked why my car seats inside were wet and was told they open the doors and spray it. Chris took my car back in to get the dirty sections cleaned and ended up drying the sides of the doors, wet seats inside, and parts of the outside of the car himself. An employee asked who my service advisor was as he should've followed up until the end, and he didn't. A week has passed and I was debating whether I should write a review and I'm glad I did, because good and deserving employees who go above and beyond should be recognized...and CHRIS is that person. read more

After I picked up my car, the next day I had a strange problem with the car and thought it might be a result of something they did to the car while it was there. Fernando Narvaez, the Head Service Manager, was so kind to let me bring my car back so he could check out the car to see what was wrong with it. Waited one hour before someone spoke to me after opening at 8am on a Saturday. Seven employees passed me by in the waiting area where I was told to wait without acknowledging me or asking what I was there for. So many great things to say about this dealership!! Team 1. We had the pleasure to work with Nick Amini. He was actually the easiest person to work with since he did his best for us and there was no back and forth wasting time. In actuality, I wasted more of his time changing the car because I couldn't decide on the white/grey/interior color combination! He gave us all the rebates/incentives and was straightforward with the transaction. I didn't feel pressured or anything, which is unheard of usually. 2. Hovik - the BMW tech genius was awesome too! He walked me through the app and how important it is to maximize the car's abilities. BMW really stepped it up with not only the vehicle but the tech component as well!! I am able to see everything and more in the app. And on top of that, it's not an extra charge - it's included. And the app actually works also unlike other brands. Extra options We did a lease on the car for multiple reasons - but, normally you would pay extra for maintenance and Gap insurance.... But it's all included here. Easily saved us $100 a month. Car The car is incrediiiible. It was between this and a Tesla and this wins hands down by far. The display is not confusing, it's organized and easily to work with. The smoothness of the car is simply awesome and the steering feels like a real sports car. I'm truly in love with this car and it's the first purchase I made coming out confident and content! Not only is the electric car great to have, but it looks so modern and futuristic Facility Last but not least, the facility was clean and the dealership felt like one big family. We brought our German Shepherd dog and said hi to a couple of other people working there and no one felt disturbed or negative around him (since he's a big pup) we were welcomed by everyone and met another gentlemen that had a shepherd himself as well! It was a fun time being at the dealership! Note* I won't forget to mention that everyone should try the coffee shop inside the dealership! The dirty chai latte was one of the best I've ever had.
