I was the only one here for the first 2/3 of my sumatran toro 52x6, so I lit it up popped in my earbuds and listened to Conrad Herwigs album The Latin Side of Mingus. The cigar was smooth and delicious. The rollers were on the other side of the room rolling cigars. A few patrons were in and out and about 30 minutes into my cigar so more smokers joined me in the lounge. The smells and atmosphere was just so relaxing! read more

Jeff recommended this cigar to me a couple of months ago (25th Aniversary Rosado) because of my interest in Pennsylvania broadleaf tobacco, which is part of the filler. The wrapper was seamless with no veins and uniform in color. The construction was great, the draw easy. The smoke was voluminous. Full flavor, medium body with some good complexity. It went out twice, but re-lit up easily without bitterness. I smoked this down to on thumb knuckle in length, which does not happen much with me. Want to be sworn at by rude employee Roxanne? This is where you should go. My family has been a long time fan of this business but my experience today with roller-skating Roxanne at the Burnet road location has put a terrible taste in my mouth for life. I told her repeatedly that the gift cards were not on sale on the website, she argued with me multiple times and told me she can not "SHIT OUT A GIFT CARD SHE DOESNT HAVE". The fact that she would be so rude and inconsiderate as to swear at a customer trying to spend money with their establishment is disgusting, shocking and appalling. I won't be returning to Babalu and will be warning EVERYONE I KNOW about this wretched and rude employee. Very unfriendly and poorly run, customer service is not their speciality and neither are the cigars. They advertise that they cut the middle men out, yet they charge just as much for a cigar as a named brand cigar. I have owned a cigar lounge, a store and a manufacturer, as well as imported cigars. I try hard never to bash the little guy or the big guy. I know how hard this business is, building a name and retaining customer, so I don't write this review with pleasure just hope that they improve the customer service and that what they charge for cigars are worth the cigar, over pricing and gouging is unacceptable. You can go to Habana House or the new Monticristo lounge on 360 and you can get a better cigar for a better price and much better customer service. As I mentioned before this is a difficult review for me to make just because I understand this business and respect the art of the cigar, but the way they treated me in this store was horrendous and left a bad taste in my mouth, although that could have been the poorly blended cigar. read more

Well, the first few times I went in the customer service sucked! I kept going only because I fell in love with there cigars. After a while I guess the customer service got a little better... it's kind of hard to get recommendations from anyone. So if you have the time I suggest tying them all. Also, if you plan on buying cigar's from bobalu I would recommend the buyers club. $50 for the year and you get half off all single cigars. Trust me it comes in handy. I love Bobalu Cigars...on Sixth street. The cigars are great. The variable types of cigars and prices are fantastic. That being said, the new building leaves much to be desired. First off its hard to spot from the street. If I didn't know EXACTLY where the location was, I would drive right past it. Second, I think they need to block off the admin section. Showcase the cigar rolling, but the rest of that is a bit of an eyesore. Third, the lounge area feels like a diner. From the tables to the chairs, it just isn't comfortable. And finally, if they can steal the ambiance from the Sixth street location, it would definitely be a nice hangout. The Heroes and Legacies and the old Green River Restaurant cigar lounges are great examples of a relaxing place to smoke a ciger. read more

I am not sure who this "old guy, maybe owner" someone is referring too in their review. Jeff, the owner, is maybe in his 50's and super nice. He helped me design a box of custom label cigars. Jeff suggested a size and blend based on the "brand name" label, i fished out of my friends ash tray. The turn around was less than a week and the cedar box made it super classy. Very old world feel. Honest, They turned out perfect! I was excited to give these as a gift. My friend loved them, he said "they smoked even and tell a good story." As a long time cigar smoker I am always suspicious of store brand cigars, naturally I was hesitant to believe Bobalu was any different. I read an article about Bobalu on the Austinot blog and decided to give it a go. WOW! I love this place! The cigars are great, it was one of my first stops when I moved to the Austin area recently. Well constructed, great draw, and lots of smoke with little to no burn issues has been my experience with 90% of their cigar lineup. Some of the flavor profiles are a little simple, but still good. My favorites though have a great range of flavor. My personal favorite is the orange label criollo, great stuff! Personally the outlet on Burnet Rd. is my favorite location. The staff there was super helpful and knowledgeable. Many of these cigars stand up to some of my favorite brand name cigars!! Keep it up Bobalu! read more
